Ian MacKai has this weirdly calm but excited demeanor and it works so well with Nadwuar's personality.
@Seth Belfort autocorrect but I'm not changing it now! Haha
That sums up his personality pretty well thanks for sharing
Ian Cobra MacKai
Sincerity. It's called sincerity.
On the spectrum
Best punk researcher vs the best punk memory. AKA immovable object vs unstoppable force. Love it.
Ian is a legend, love his music
"They would listen to Joy Division but there weren't satanists by any means" - that's golden
"It's not actually a very humorous story; she ended up killing herself" is like something from an Alan Partridge interview
I had to pause the video when this happened to look at the comments hahahha
you know until now i never knew i wanted to see a meeting between nardwuar and alan partridge
LMAO
Nardwuar interviewing Alan Partridge would be brilliant, haha.
ah-ha!
“Two bananas could never hurt anybody” - Ian MacKaye
Constipation inbound
The most punk thing ever muttered
Ian Mackaye has never slid on 2 bananas at once
@@Ryan-vg4wn a poke in the eye ball with stick end will hurt like a bitch !...
Okay
the number of times that Ian was disappointed at Nardwuar for not getting a reference he made, and told him things he brought up were wrong and told him the real story...Nardwuar may have met his match.
I know. It was crazy
References?
@@stephenbianchi7141 like when Calvin Johnson made a Darby Crash reference and Nardwuar didn't get it at first.
@@liammartin6838 link to video?
"Who cares if you have an audience at all? The internet never forgets"
- Nardwuar
Saito Gamu that quote is Pretty powerful
I'd love a link to when he says this! Super powerful
Yeah. Look now has million + of views
You're history Nardwaur just remember that. No one else competes to your level, and you give us so much knowledge from so many artists/rappers/musicians/etc. that we would of never known about without your unique questioning. Keep on rocking in the free world. 🤙🏼
lol you think nardwuar is running his own youtube channel?
@@ss11111ss Fuck you, why couldn't you just let the guy have his moment?
Thanks that means a lot and inspires me to do more ! Doot doola doot doo ....
@@nardwuar DOOT DOO
NardwuarServiette Thanks for the reply! And good I'm glad! You will always have my support, you always stayed humble and never let your ever increasing popularity effect your personality! It's rare to have people as cool and down to earth as you. Please keep safe, and I can't wait to see what future interviews you have in store for us. Doot doot!
Things you need to do while in quarantine:
Watch all nardwuar interviews
..
..
Is that something you should do just during quarantine? Because that's something I do on a daily basis.
This is a must for quarantine but there really isnt any set time for the N A R D. Enjoyable all day everyday
Two must see ones are the Nardwuar interview with Henry Rollins.
the only nardwuar interview where you can see the reverence and intimidation in his eyes... notice how he gives up his sources haha
He never liked talking about his veganism, has given that same answer for decades.
qwe1231 it’s probably because people shat all over him so much for the straight edge thing, if he talked about being vegan all the time he’d get the same. So I think he has his guard up
If he always gives that answer, how do you know if he's vegan?
He’s vegetarian
See kids? Stay straight edge and you will remember things!
But like a little crack is okay right?

this must be the only interview where when they ask “how do you know that” he actually explains instead of saying “you are ____, we have to know!”
"Doot doola doo doo"
"Take care"
I want Ian's crazy mental memory.
Turn straight edge then lol
Thats a straight-edgers brain
@@stennostenno1346 Never done drugs in my life, I’m 13, and I can’t even remember last weekend without taking a few minutes to collect my memory.
@@BlackAbbath0 Memory is also highly dependant on sleep (REM sleep specifically), so if you don't sleep 8 hours regularly I would try to do that as best as you can
For real.
him and rollins have a similar cadence of talking, i love it
they were friends as kids so it makes sense
@@TheFlameBladeWielder who do you speak like?
@@TheFlameBladeWielder Still friends, they speak over the phone every Sunday according to Rollins
@@Gabez9 what i wouldn't give to wiretap them one conversation or two
well they’re both from dc lol
I like when nardwuar asked about his dad he got defensive for a brief moment until he realized he had already talked about this in another interview lol.
29:40 I love how serious Ian responds to Nard's silly joke
(tidak) kaget nemu komen SNK di video interview nardwuar sama ian mackaye
It's weird seeing Nardwuar actually answering "where did you hear this?"
that was definitely one of the best interviews i've seen. i love ian! he's so well spoken and polite, at least compared to other punks from his age.
Loved that little touch in the interview about getting dropped from a gig where he says "I mean I sent him a fucking picture" before rephrasing to say "excuse me. So, I had sent him a picture"
I was the bass player of Iron Cross. It was a great gig. Minor Threat did a Ska version of one of our songs LOL. Still love these guys.
Are you Wendel?
An interview at the receiving end of an archery range.
It's the subtle things, meng!
Ian isn't shocked by the deep cuts, he goes into emaculate detail ahaha 😂😅😂😅😂😅😂 I love it
Anyone else watching the 2001 interview, then the 2012 interview, then the 2020 interview? 🤙🏾
“It’s not a very humorous story, she ended up killing herself” - Ian MacKaye
Absolute legend. GREAT interview
"subhumans stayed at my parents house..."
Nardwar nearly met his match with Ian "where did you hear that" MacKaye
The time between the DOA show Ian talks about in the beginning and the filming of this, is about as long as the time between the filming of this and today.
What a great interview, thanks Nardwuar
Old stories about punk rock just give me a good feeling inside, especially when Ian tells them. He seems to see a magic in life that most people have forgotten.
Imagine being interviewed by him periodically over 20 years that's sick
The washington Redskins STILL play the beginning of "waiting room" in between plays randomly at least 2 times per home game. I went to a game and I thought it was so cool hearing that but I wondered if they had Fugazi's permission...probably not.
Oh wow I didn’t know that! I’m pretty positive Fugazi would absolutely hate that for multiple reasons.
i love the inserted clip of the jello interview. a great edit to satisfy the audience.
Nardwaur. Love you brother. Hope you been well. Always look forward to your new uploads, covid has really stunk up the scene but holy it's soon to pass. Hope u r healthy n happy tho, take care- from Detroit Michigan.
I loved how Ian mackaye was disappointed nardwuar didn't get the germs reference.
Ian didn't take well to those personal questions 😁
GOTTA POST SOME MORE VIDS NARDWUAR. YOURE AMAZING
I love it, how in every interview there is this "who told you that/how do you possibly know that?"-moment :)
Excellent interview.
What a badass interview
Are you kidding me nardwuar you God I've always wanted to see the full interview
I really appreciate and admire both of these fellas and wow they are very different human beings
Thanks For this !! Do doo
I think this is the only interview I’ve ever seen Nardwuar actually tell the interviewee where he got his information.
Ian is the nicest guy, I met him in Detroit around this time. Signed my skateboard!
He’s a threat but just a minor one
Ian remembers gig dates from 20 years before. I can't remember the date of a gig I played a few months ago!
Outstanding!
Thank you so much Nardwuar
Even with him showing so much disliking towards the "dated" references, he answered the most of them extensively.
Bird sounds in the background reminds me of the climbing in Squamish. I can’t believe I didn’t see Fugazi live. Still one of my favourites.
Flex your head was fucking revolutionary. Respect.
I would pay to see the both of you do some sort of comedy duo, I know it's not feasible at all, but god, would I pay for it.
I love Ian mackaye
To be clear on something, I was there when SSD first came up to NYC to play A7 in 81 I did not see nor hear about any fighting with new york kids and Boston kids at that show. That's my answer to that question.
Thank you for your service, tommy 🇺🇲
I attended the show that he was there for, Fugazi in Burnaby BC. It was a great show, Fugazi played for like three hours.
He was a bully .... YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?
Jeez Louise, this looks like a long time ago. Fugazi was my first show in 2000. Time flies.
The Nard incoming with another video: POW!
I came into this after not having heard MacKaye in ages and was like "here comes cringe-y self-serious mackaye"...nope. He's just incredibly sincere. Whoops?
He has a quintessential dc accent, love it. Shout out Rita's on Georgia Ave!
This is so good
Ian Rules. This is an amazing interview.
"Iv'e got Straight Edge". Legend
Minor Threat is my favorite punk band.
Ian can be hard to talk to but great job here.
No, I don't think Ian's hard to talk to at all. I met Ian at a show about 10+ years ago. He was very kind to me, even though I was visibly quite drunk. Nice guy, had a good conversation. I think he's got a reputation he wouldn't put up with that kind of thing. Here, he is being insensitively bombarded by Nardwuar's questions about punk gossip from decades ago and still managed to handle it well for 34 minutes!
the full interview...this was never seen on video before as far as I know. I read the transcript but for some reason there were only short clips of this before.
Ian so dynamic!
Nardwuar do a podcast!! Love you brother. I saw you at a record store in van and wanted to ask you if you have any memories of the modernettes. My aunt was the bassist
Damn! Never seen the full interview!
lmfao that poison idea question
Yay!
Hadda pause and watch patient boy
So awesome how you correct him on band names. You are an encyclopedia!
16:48 LOL. Jello's reaction is hilarious lmao
Did they ever play the Underground Treehouse in Bend Oregon? Would have been 1998-1999. Tons of punk band went through there. US Bombs and Ducky Boys played the night the UT got raided by cops US Bombs never even got on stage. Those days are kind of a blur.
that SNL story is amazing
He actually is giving his sources at this time, interesting.
Legendary
Fugazi played Friday in Dayton OH and Ian had soaked his shirt in sweat, next night(Saturday) my friend Rob and I went and saw them play in Cincinnati about 50 miles and Ian had the same shirt on. I hope it got washed at some point, but it might not have...hardcore
Just heard it from a little bird😂 what a boss you are Nardwuar.
You know crossword puzzles were used in cold war spy protocol for relaying messages to agents in the field, just saying, lol.
Ian is so funny. He had said before he is an archivist and it makes sense because he seemed to want to know about how and what nardwuar said that he didn’t know 😂
He did not like the question about Poison Idea
21:32 Ian was wrong, it was actually Mike from suicidal tendencies who said "look at my nose"
I love how he answers questions lmao
Nardwuar got owned multiple times.
Perhaps why he had never released it in its entirety all this time, just a shortened edited 5 minute or so version?
Rock questions go deep. Hip hop questions are more chill.
I wish I had Ian’s memory’s. Names. Dates. ItS crazy. Henry too.
Ian is or at least was an ornery fellow. He gave young Nardwuar the business.
Wtf nard! How many gems do you have hidden away like this?
This interview has been on RUclips forever. Not sure why it's being re uploaded
cheeesonator Full interview was never uploaded
im still waiting for that minor threat arguments record, Ian....
MacKaye’s serious no bullshit attitude is simply hilarious.
Ian MacKaye is the Phil Collins of punk. Not in his impact, but because he already had middle age grandpa vibes by his early 30's.
Nard always finds that button to push, that sets his prey off guard
"that was rhythmic!" love ian ❤
I went to that Fugazi show at the rec center. Never knew he talked to Nardwuar,
Anthony Fantano must be Jealous by nowww
Kindred spirits
Hello Nardwuar, hope you have fun with you next interview!
