Nardwuar also speaks really highly of Jello Biafra's record collection. Not so much archives, just general history and music/pop culture knowledge.

I remember back in the late 90's i once wrote a letter to Nardwuar's label asking to send a mail order catalog to buy other recordings & aside from the catalog Nardwuar also sent me a hand written letter using the same paper seen at 17:21. He gave me free gifts.... 3 Evaporators band stickers, a CITR radio magnet & a Hulk Hogan sports card. I still have everything, I've archived it !

Living at home with Mommy and getting well fed through his early artistic years, probably helped, while many artists live in shitholes and have to go without meals.

Ian's really well-preserved and mentally sharp. He's a living illustration of why the straight edge lifestyle is a smart move.
There's his version of straight-edge, and then everybody else's. Someone isn't necessarily going to remain mentally sharp if they don't exercise their brain; he's definitely a big reader and thinker. Some were never sharp to begin with. There's a lot of straight edge idiots out there; they're a notorious breed, so much so he distanced himself from the term. It's even possible to stay healthy and sharp do a lot of drugs, if that's one's prerogative; it's just very often not, so those users don't study how to do that. I don't think he ever wanted to do drugs; if he ever did them, I doubt he'd advertise it (although I could swear he said in a Thirsty Ear interview ca. 2000 that he's drank a beer here and there, though don't quote me on it).
he's kinda rude to narduwar and i can imagine him being a prude to be around. that's why black flag tried leaving him behind when he roadied for them in europe lol
Ian Mackaye is the only person that I’ve ever seen that Nardwuar is clearly a bit nervous when speaking to.
He has always made such charged and passionate music while simultaneously being a sensitive and gentle guy. I really admire his attitude. He exudes a lot of passion and patience and is a very honest and real person, it's a rare temperament and it can sometimes feel like we're living in a world where it's becoming antiquated.

We opened up for Fugazi in 1995 at Clyde's in Columbia,SC. Prior to the show we had lunch with Ian. Truly a great guy, great stories. Nothing like seeing Guy and Ian standing to the side watching you perform then thoroughly blowing you off the stage when they came on. Great memories.

I like how Ian brings up the fact that Nardwuar is animated and aggressive in his interviews, which is his style and you either get it or you don’t and the ones who don’t are put off. I mean his interviews are all titled “Nardwuar versus so and so” which I find hilarious. I’d like to hear what he’s like off the record.
I bumped into Nardwuar at SXSW 2014. Let me just say his interview persona is only a mild exaggeration of what I experienced talking to him. He is a major, major music fanatic, and friendly as can be. Nardwuar is full of stories about our heroes going back to Kurt Cobain and is easily as big a fish as many of the people he interviews.
He gave me doot-do-la-doot-doo when it was time to part ways.

Ian is a LEGEND! I grew up in the DC area and I was too young for Minor Threat but I saw Fugazi many times....they are AMAZING!
In the before times: Narduar shows artists mind blowing, random, obscure memorabilia.
Now: hey, Narduar. Check out this receipt from a truck stop from 1982.
I love how he knows exactly what Nard is looking for, and he's got the good himself to deliver, so good.

Amazing interview. We all know how much Nardwuar dodges questions about himself, I love how whenever Ian asks a question about Nardwaur that he skips over, Ian immediately goes back to the question he asked forcing Nardwaur to answer it. Lol most people would just continue on.

Ian explains exactly why it took me SO LONG to warm up to Nardwuar. His interview style is so over the top that it feels almost aggressively invasive, as if you’re expected to be aware of who is, which feels somewhat presumptuous. But once you’re in the know he makes sense; but that still feels a little unfair. But he’s Nardwuar.

The show Ian mentioned in Fredericton before Halifax, was actually in New Maryland outside Fredericton, almost across the street from the house I grew up in. It was in a rec center, and I couldn't even believe I was watching Fugazi live in this old rec center out in a rural community where I had gone to for many different things over the years as a child. My friends band was one of the opening bands that night. I grew a huge amount of respect for them that night for playing such a cheap show and where they were playing and for the most part just blending in with the rest of us.
Just a great show with no bells or whistles needed. Such a great experience. Thanks for working so hard and retaining your down to earth values over the decades.
Ian never sold out. Kept it real from the get go.

i've lived in Vancouver for 20 years, and I worked in a restaurant, so outside of my work all i ate was Uncle Fatih's pizza by Tinseltown. And until today, even after going their EVERYDAY for many years, i thought it was uncle FAITH's. I always called in uncle Faiths!! I can't believe i've misread it for so many years.
