The song Welcome to the Machine fits like a puzzle piece between Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Have A Cigar.
The whole album fits together like a glove.
Correct! Really best to listen to the album in its entirety. Epic!!!
@@TerryT304 most of their albums fit together like a glove
Yes but I think Dogs goes along too
Hell of a start
Guilmour is the best guitar player ever. He‘s on a level that no one ever could achieve. His guitar is like a human singing, he gives life to the electric guitar.
you could mean it all the way you want, he's one of my favorite also and the band a personnal musical inspiration for my music. But within the years i've learned something about musicianship, and it's the idea that there are 2 type of musician. One with soul, feeling and grooving within the forests of soundscape, or the other who's theoritical and highly critical.
A true musician is one who puts life into a dead medium. Gilmour is one within the great circle of art, yet he can't be the best, because the essence of art is to learn and give so someone else learns and gives back.
Frank Zappa is the best guitar player that has ever lived.
@@PuffnStuff117 Maybe Hendrix or Van Halen…
@@god8348 nah they’re overrated by a long shot lol. I’d pick Pete Townshend over them all day. Listen to the record “shut up ‘n play yer guitar” listen to the songs “black napkins” or “pink napkins”
The look on your face when the song stopped like that was hilarious… Yes, it was the right video. You just gotta listen to Pink Floyd as an album to understand that they never end a song in a classic way, it’s always something different. Glad ya liked it!
The line “oh by the way, which ones pink?” Is from when some executive or whatever was so out of the loop that he actually thought that Pink Floyd was a member, thus asking which one of you guys is Pink?
Yeah, and he didn't give a damn about Floyd, what's up with that?
That would be Randall 'Pink' Floyd (from the movie 'Dazed and Confused').
Terry Sarkel nice👍👍
Bob Geldof was Pink. LOL ;-)
When we all know it is Jethro Tull
This song is about the corruption of the music industry. Roy Harper on vocals.
Yep, a RARE occurrence to have someone else singing lead other than a PF member.
@@ffjsb Off the top of my head I can only think of two other occasions (not including occasional additional choirs) those being Clare Torry (Great Gig) and Bob Geldof (the film soundtrack version of In the Flesh).
@@emdiar6588 I don't know that I'd include the movie "The Wall"... That wasn't just the band doing the music. I'm thinking just albums that they put out. They had three really great singers, so there wasn't much need to go outside. Man they put out some epic music...
Great album. I still can’t believe that it’s not Roger Waters on lead vocals. Too weird. Why?! Roger could’ve done this easily. WTF
@@natewilliams1062 The story I read was that they just couldn't make the vocals work for some reason, and someone from the band got the singer to come in from another part of the studio when Rogers was taking a break. Evidently it worked. It kind of works on another level too, because the lyrics are from the point of view of someone outside of the band anyway.
I don't care how many times I hear it, that's a great song. Don't worry. It's supposed to end that way. It leads into the next song on the album. It's all good. Keep em coming my friend.
Brilliant ending. Almost trolling fans on acid. :)
The same with Us and Them (my all time favorite) read an interview with David Gilmour and he said they couldn't figure out how to end it so they just ended it.
Almost that way,the guitar supposed to fade out
There is still 5-10 more seconds after it cut off. There is just a high pass filter put on the audio that takes the lows and mids out.
Sorry to disagree, but actually it is supposed to continue, very faintly, for another 20 or 30 seconds. The original studio album anyways. Was this a re-mastered version?
Gilmour getting his funk on....
Don't forget Rick, Nick and Roger!
One of my favorite guitar solos
Gilmour can never lose his funk...he is a genius...
one of the best ever
None of them sang on this track
Oh by the way, which one is Pink?
RJ The Bike Guy... Floyd is.
Anderson...
Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

@@patrickharrington5753 Correct. Barrett combined the 2 names.
My dad also used this song as a life lesson to not let anyone use me for their own self gain to go out and not just get but to demand and to take what I knew was my own worth. Not to be manipulated by someone, like the lyric " Oh by the way which ones Pink? Oh the name of the game is riding the gravy train" they recognized they were attempting to use them. It's a musical masterpiece. As well as a life lesson everyone should hear.
🙌🏻🤘🏻
I always imagined this playing when a rookie gets picked in the draft... no matter what sport... lol
Roger and David left the biggest of shoes to fill for the future song writers around the world.

Pink Floyd is not music , not songs. It's experience, state of someone's mind , floating in the other dimension....There will never be anybody like PF. Ever !!!!!
This Band really was from Another planet. All these years later and their music still sounds like it's from the Future???
Ray Mcarthur it is! Ageless music.
"The band is just fantastic!!! That is really what I think!!! Oh, by the way which one's Pink?"- Great line from this song.
That funky bass line really drives this one, keep the Floyd coming!
Its probably Gilmour on bass. Idk if Waters is capable of this.
Ron James Nope it was Waters. They play the song live and it has always been Waters.
@@tariqkhonji6556 probably backing tracks. Waters isn't that talented.
That's the way the song ends. No worries.

So amazing! I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon.
See, this is what I say about the entire album Dark Side of the Moon. I hate when people pick out one song like Time or Money. Don't get me wrong, they're great tracks, but Pink Floyd made albums, not tracks. You really can't understand their genius until you listen to entire albums of theirs from start to finish.
Unless you’re fucking Spotify.

The orgy of musical creativity between 1962-63 up to very early '80 will never come back. The musician were creating a musical expression, a musical visions, not following "trends". PF are on the top of this, till their "The Wall " album, that not by chance was out in 1979.
It’s a concept album, the theme weaves through the album, it cuts off but then leads into the next piece of the storyline. Ya gotta listen to the whole album. It flows.
"The Wall" and "Dark Side of the Moon" are both epic albums - every song.
Not a bad song on either album.

Pink Floyd is a state of mind, great reactions 😎
Pink Floyd is my favourite group. I grew up in Houston Texas , seen a lot of groups in concert . FLOYD is the master of concerts ! 1987 Houston Astrodome.
My dad is a fan of floyd, but back when i was a kid he was obsessed with Floyd,Jean Michel-Jarre, Kraftwerk and some other early eletronic bands/songs.When i hear any of these songs i can remember him working on something in the backyard while the sound system was screaming, me and my brother having a good time and my mother asking him to lower the volume.Teach your kids whats good on this life gentlemen.
"One of these days" is the most brutal jam Pink Floyd made. Check it out and tell me what ya think.
One of my favorite Floyd songs is the early Nile Song. I've always viewed One of These Days as a kind of throwback to the old style jamming. Both are super fun to play on the drums too.
Best on Delicate Sound of Thunder...
I'll never stop loving this song. Ever.
There's a modern act called The Main Squeeze that did a cover of Have A Cigar. They cranked the dial to 11, broke the knob off and buried it in the backyard. It's one of the very few times where a Pink Floyd cover holds it own.
If there is a heaven, it is Pink Floyd!! MUST MUST MUST listen to Echoes(EPIC)!!! Fearless, One of These Days, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, Comfortably Numb, Welcome to the Machine, Shine on you Crazy Diamond and ALL of The Animals Album....just to start. Pink Floyd is ETHEREAL..... Also Highly Recommend Live at Pompeii!! That Certainly won't disappoint
I love how I have know all of these old songs for years but I still make the same facial expressions as you do at the same parts lmao
"Have A Cigar/Wish You Were Here" should really be listened to together as they are on the album! The transition between the two is outstanding! And Roy Harper was on vocals for this because nobody in the band was able to sound as good!
Pink Floyd is one of the quad-legends. Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica. You need to dig into all of these. All are sooooooo talented. Transitions, original sounds, and pure artistry. If you come from hip hop, hard core rap, it'll take some digging to get to the rabbit hole in the context of Metallica, but you'll find it, and you'll be rewarded.
I never get tired of this song. Towards the end, it becomes tremendously amazing..one reason is how the song.. transforms into a dream..then you start questioning who you really are as a soul. ( 4 minute mark for this video )
The man seemingly on fire in the photos actually was on fire!
A deal gone bad, two businessmen shaking hands & one of them is getting burned.

I've listened to Pink Floyd for the past 40 years. I really love this song, because it has a lot of bass and some really funky sounds! Enjoy it!😎😎😎 that song is supposed to end that way FYI
Yeah, just.., yeah. Pink Floyd is just mindblowing on every level.
One of my favorites from pink Floyd. Getting high in my friends basement and living room listening to Floyd ..... What could be betta ?????
Pink Floyd has been a part of my life since age 10 I fell in love with their music as my Uncle Rob played their albums every day on the old Expo Invader amplified record player.
"We're so happy we can hardly count" lol
I met a good friend in the Army, he was from Flint, Michigan. After we got out, we had some drink, maybe a little smoke and got some fish sandwiches in Tacoma, Washington. My wife put this song on in the car and it melted my boy Jerome.... He says what is this? My wife says "Its the Pink dude, ride it out" hahahahha true story. Thanks for the memories 🤙🤙🤙
That is how the song ends.
Please, please, please, don't stop listening to Pink Floyd. There is a gold mine there,
Yes 😀 that’s how the song ends going into the next one, represents the band and the song getting sucked into the radio airwaves, enjoyed your reaction 😀❤️
👍🏾Thanks
Not quite. There is supposed to be a few more seconds of lo-fi guitar as it fades out.
"The Turning Away" for lyrics on love and justice.
Thank you, Pink Floyd.
The song is about how the record companies and the agents don't care about the artists. The line "oh by the way, which one is pink?" Refers to an agent that came to their show and actually thought the lead singers name was "pink floyd". Love me some floyd.
That’s how it was written. Pink Floyd’s albums are stories that need to be listened in it’s entirety. Then you get the picture.
this track actually had guest vocalist Roy Harper on it. PF never had a problem with hiring someone else when they couldn't satisfy themselves, they also brought on Dick Parry on sax for this album an DSOTM.
The story behind how Roy Harper ended up on this track goes like this. The band was in the middle of recording Wish you were here and when it came around time to track this song Roger wanted to do the vocals, they even recorded with him singing but David wanted sing on it and didn't think it worked with Roger singing. Roy Harper happened to be in the same studio recording his own music and David asked him if he wouldn't mind giving it a try since both Roger and David couldn't agree on who should sing. They recorded it and the band with the exception of Roger thought it worked better.
@@snowfan0521I heard that one of them was sick and the other didn’t want to sing it
There is a band "The Main Squeeze" that does an excellent cover of this song, as well as other covers, you should check it out. Also Pink Floyd Echoes Part 1 live At Pompeii. AMAZING STUFF.

@@jamelakajamal I've been a pink floyd fan since i was 15yo lol and I'm 49 now but I got turned onto that live performance from a reaction video. I love all the people reacting to stuff. Takes courage to put up video of one's self giving their opinions in subjects that are not in their wheelhouse.
Well Said👍🏾
A lot of their songs end with some sort of unique transition leading right into the next song. When people just listen to the songs individually.....they miss out on those. 'The Wall' is full of those magical transitions. That's one long continuous operatic masterpiece, and if possible.....is best listened to in order. I've seen it done broken up into 2 or 3 separate videos. Gotta' include all of those transitions though, to get the full effect.

"By the way, which one's Pink?" Brilliant line!
Here’s the thing about Pink Floyd, they are their own genre. There’s rock bands, heavy metal, grunge, etc.. but Floyd is a rock opera group, and the only one of its kind. The songs on an album are connected, and tell a part of a much larger story. That’s why everyone keeps saying, listen to the entire album in one sitting.
Pink Floyd is a life changing experience.
As mentioned earlier, this song abruptly ended because they out the transissions into the song Wish You Were Here. You need to listen to the entire album through. And same for The Dark Side Of The Moon album.
"We're so happy we could hardly care."
"Everybody else is just greeeen... 🤑"
Seriously, that last one is brilliant in how it applies to the jealous record labels and how this suit sees Pink Floyd.
We're So happy we can hardly count.
The part that it leads into was actually also cut from the beginning of your "Wish You Were Here" video... It basically drops all dynamic range and becomes just a song on the radio before the dial is spun... then the opening guitar from WYWH is on the radio, and then he plays along before taking over the song, which is where your other video started. Pink Floyd don't write songs, they create concept albums... They tell stories with soundscapes. Sometimes details get lost in the shuffle.
One of the things I like most about Pink Floyd is how different each song sounds, yet they are all discernibly Pink Floyd.
Absolutely love Pink Floyd, amazing musicianship. David Gilmore on lead guitar,he makes his guitar sing.🎸👍☮️
Do you mean Gilmour?
This one should really be listened to after listening to, 'Welcome to the Machine'. They cover similar topics. Have a Cigar is much more specific though. Welcome to the Machine is a fantastic song in it's own right. Even better than Have a Cigar imho. Mind you, it shows how exceptional Floyd are, that these 2 songs are the candidates for worst track on the album. Of course to call either track the 'worst' would be ridiculous. All tracks on Wish You Were here are stellar. Ditto the tracks on Dark Side of the Moon. In fact, with most Floyd albums it's nigh on impossible to find a bad track. They're just too damn good! :)
It’s just that Have a Cigar transforms into Wish You Were Here sort of seamless... you listen to the music of Pink Floyd albumwise 🤠🎩
Welcome to the Machine my friend. You posted this on my birthday. Thank you. This was a middle finger to the record companies that were so ignorant about their own artists that they asked the band which of them was Pink. The men shaking hands represent the record company making money and the artist getting burned in the trade.
Another band you would dig is Steely Dan. Check out the Aja album.
I have to agree. I'm a carpenter and stuck their whole collection on a USB stick last week. Listened to it at work ALL DAY. Easy. One of my favourite bands. Talking Heads and Jethro Tull were on the same stick.

I got to see them Echoes live the 1st time I saw them. They played JFK Stadium (where Live Aid was held) and the first song to kick off the concert was Echoes. What a night to be 17 in 1987! We were lucky in Philadelphia and a few other cities as well because it was played a handful of times. Apparently they got upset at the reactions of the crowd. Or so I read...

Under all the effects and Rick Wright's keys and synths, Pink Floyd has a lot of soulfulness fully on display with Roger's bass lines, David's licks, Clare Torry's once in a lifetime, yet lasting forever vocal contribution, the perfect sax solos... on and on... a lot of underlying soulfulness...

Not true
Welcome to the machine comes before it. Wish you were here comes after have a cigar. In the end of have a cigar it goes into a tv sound (if I'm not mistaken it's a scene from the movie rear window from Hitchcock, and the male main character is talking to his girlfriend) then the movie sound of the TV fades away into wish you were here.
