  • Everyone knows that "Hormones cause breast cancer!" But does it? Really? This idea is widespread among both patients and doctors. This video answers that question.
    Should you take HRT for menopause? If that question feels impossible to answer, I'm here to help. My digital course, The Menopause Solution, guides you through Searches, Stories, and Studies to help you make your HRT decision.

    The "26% increase" reported in the Women's Health Initiative refers to something calles "RELATIVE RISK."
    The number of cases of breast cancer per 10,000 women increased from:
    30 cases in women who did not take hormones
    up to
    38 cases in women who did take hormones
    So the "ABSOLUTE RISK" was about 8 additional breast cancer cases out of 10,000 women.
    A "RELATIVE RISK" of 26% sounds frightening and that calculation is, technically, correct.
    However, the ABSOLUTE RISK calculates to a 0.08% increase in breast cancer.
    Maybe it's not a very interesting newspaper headline that says,
    "Study Shows 0.08% Increase In Breast Cancer with HRT!!!!"

    No! It does not! If it did then women in their teenage years or at peak reproductive time.
    I'm learning so much about breast cancer from Menopause Taylor, aka Dr. Barbara Taylor, and she's doing a 55 videos series on breast cancer. Most women hear breast cancer and freak. They shoukd not freak and ask exactly where it was foubd, how big, is it in situ, is it in thr lymph nodes! Is it in a milk du t and more. It's a series of videos I'd tell women to watch without doing the 300+ other videos in sequebce that came before it. She dives deep and does an excellent job. She puts out a video a week, so she'll spend over a year on breast cancer alone!

      You're so welcome! My passion is helping women in menopause and perimenopause understand that optimal hormone levels are absolutely essential elements of optimal health. Using the right hormones in the right way can BOTH eliminate hormone-related symptoms AND reduce long-term health risks at the same time. LOTS of doctors don't see hormones this way and consider them dangerous. In my informed opinion, many of those healthcare providers are missing what's clearly written in the medical research - including the nitty gritty details within the WHI report. As scientists and medical professionals, we need to read studies closely and critically, recognizing what they do and DO NOT say.

    I was reading the leaflet that comes with HRT...they are body identical, so, why is there an increased risk at all...even if it is just an extra 5 per thousand women, I dont understand why the leaflets state increased risk of stroke, cancer, clots even alopecia...if they are body identical I would have thought there should be no risk. I dont know whether to take them or not. I'm at the end of perimenopause and I have been feeling so calm this last few months, it's absolutely wonderful. I'm scared to upset the apple cart, this road is way less bumpy! 😊

      You're so welcome Deborah! I'm not so sure that "too late" applies to as many women as people think. The hormone providers I work with all over the US and Canada tend not to buy the idea that a woman over 60 or so can't take hormones. The conventional wisdom, based on misinterpretations of the Women's Health Initiative, says that "hormones later in life cause heart attacks." This video looks more closely at that assumption. ruclips.net/video/1YkufXw5pxk/видео.html

    There are so many videos out now regarding this matter which is nice.
    A woman can make anything decisions she likes but only the doctor can write the script.
    If you or any of the people that post these video could somehow compile a list of doctors in agreement that would be truly helpful.
    Random people have advised me to keep going to different doctors till I find one. That just isn’t realistic. Insurance, copays and time off of work makes that impossible.

    Is spironolactone consider HRT ?! Does this medicine increase breast cancer risk ?! I take this for acne and I really need it . Can you please answer my question.

    • @SimpleHormones
      @SimpleHormones  Год назад

      Spironolactone is NOT a hormone. It's most commonly used to block some effects of androgens like testosterone and DHEA. It's generally pretty effective against things like acne, which is often brought on by high androgen levels. There are several studies, mostly "observational" that show no increase in breast cancer risk with spironolactone.

    I just tested very high for estrogen by my obgyn, and am concerned about it causing cancer. I am post menopausal and had a bout of Alopecia they were giving me steroid injections for every few weeks for months. I am considering taking an estrogen blocker like DIM to get the levels down. Do you have any suggestions for me and should I test the testosterone level as well or anything else? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    • @SimpleHormones
      @SimpleHormones  Год назад +2

      @survivormary1126 Thanks for watching. There’s a widely held belief that high estradiol levels cause cancer. That’s simply not true, based on the research.
      If you’re taking estradiol, which I assume you are, the simplest solution to high levels is to reduce your dose.
      DIM is a nutritional supplement that has an impact on the way estradiol is metabolized - broken down and eliminated by the liver. I have my wife taking it to optimize her estradiol. It’s not technically an “estrogen blocker,” since it doesn’t stop estrogen from working.
      My biggest suggestion is, as always, to look for a trained hormone optimization specialist who knows where your levels should be and the best ways to help you get there.
