    I just got taken aback by my new PCP. My GYN prescribed my estrogen/progesterone and has never questioned my need for it. My old PCP retired (also never questioned me being on it), and I just met my new, young PCP. Upon going over my medication list, he said, "Why are you still taking estrogen?" I said because it helps with my menopause symptoms. I was surprised enough at that question but then he said, "When will you stop taking it?" I immediately said, "Never", he said "Ok" and we moved on, but I sat there in a bit of shock because I really thought a young doctor would have a more updated view of estrogen. They really don't teach this stuff anywhere but here. You rock Dr. Taylor!

      @MenopauseTaylor I went to my 3yr cancer check and the locum gyno, a doctor who finished residency last year, asked me when I was going to stop, I said never and that I'm educated on menopause. She said in two years it'll be discussed if I want to....uhm, I just said never

    Several women I know, insist that estrogen causes breast cancer. One receptionist stopped taking estrogen (after using it only 7 months) once she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her doctor said the estrogen caused it.
    If your videos were out back then, where they are now, I would have been able to tell her that she had the cancer at least 7 years ago.
    I love being informed as I do not want to look like an ostrich with its head in the ground.

    53 year old here, went into menopause two years ago. Perimenopause was hell, menopause was much worse. My quality of life before HRT was so bad. So bad. I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel nor did I want to. Been on HRT for three months and my life is 100% better. I weighed it…
    depression and misery vs. possible breast cancer. I wasnt living without HRT so I said to hell with it. I will cross that bridge if I ever get to it. I had what I think are extreme symptoms of Menopause. All are gone. The irritable, the dry skin, the hot flashes, night sweats, the lack of you know…, over weight, etc. 3 months and my skin looks amazing, I lost 20 lbs and go to the gym twice a week and I can tolerate my husband once again (than God he tolerated me😆). NO MORE HOT FLASHES, NO MORE NIGHT SWEATS. For me, it was quality of life THAT I chose.

Though based on the many videos of yours I've watched, I have a feeling that it goes something like this: taking HRT doesn't necessarily increase your risk of breast cancer even if you had estrogen-positive cancer. NOT taking estrogen poses its own breast cancer risks afterall.

    Hi Dr. Taylor! As usual, thank you for another fact-based, informative, and extremely important video. I have a question: you said women taking bioidentical estrogen (alone) have more of an increased risk of breast cancer than those taking non-bioidentical. I thought pharmaceutical estrogen can also be considered bioidentical (Estrace, Dotti patch, etc.). In this video, were you referring to compounded bioidentical or ALL bioidentical? I'm so happy you are here on YT educating us - you are literally saving lives, my own included. ❤

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  10 месяцев назад +4

      BOTH the pharmaceutical and the compounding industries make bioidentical hormones.
      Never say the word, "bioidentical" without also specifying whether you mean pharmaceutical bioidentical or compounded bioidentical.
      Only pharmaceutical HRT can prevent heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's.

      Yes, I understand that (thanks to your videos!), and that is actually why I was asking which version(s) of bioidentical you were referring to when you said women taking bioidentical estrogen (alone) have more of an increased risk of breast cancer than those taking non-bioidentical (around the 19:20 timestamp in the video). I was wondering if you could clarify if that applies to pharmaceutical bioidentical, compounded bioidentical, or both? Thanks!!

    Dr Taylor - towards the end of the video you say that gynecologists (among other medical doctors) are stoking/increasing women’s fears of estrogen… Why is this? I know that gynecologists get only minimal training on menopause (if any), but are you saying gynecologists also don’t know (much) about estrogen? That sounds absurd.
    I’m aware of doctors’ fears of litigation, but if they scientifically understand estrogen, wouldn’t it count as malpractice to “terrorize” (to use your word) women about the use of estrogen?
    Thank you for this video. 🌸

    • @MenopauseTaylor

      One study (the WHI), 21 years ago, scared women ... and doctors against HRT. And fear is the most powerful emotion on Earth. Once it's part of the equation, it's very difficult to erase or reverse it. And that's why menopause management is so difficult for women. They themselves are scared. And doctors are still preying on that fear to avoid given HRT for fear of lawsuits. We now have a situation in which doctors are doing what is in their legal best interest rather than what's in your medical best interest.
      I do consider it malpractice, equal to withholding insulin from diabetics.

      Because menopause is the most neglected topic on Earth.
      There is no education whatsoever on menopause in medical school. In four-year OB/GYN residency programs, less than 1% of the time is devoted to menopause. So most doctors know none of the stuff I teach you.
      Here on RUclips, I give you the equivalent of:
      • A four-year pre-medical undergraduate education

    I think when people say "estrogen dominance" they're talking about xeno estrogens, not the estrogen naturally produced by your own body. All those chemicals in beauty products, plastic, conventionally raised beef, cleaning products, hair dye, fragrance etc etc. Those increase your toxic load and affect your hormone balance. Of course your own estrogen doesn't cause cancer!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 месяцев назад

      People use the term "estrogen dominance" to mean all sort of things. But it's nothing but a marketing term.
      Dr. John Lee catered to the Alternative & Complementary camp, coining the term "Estrogen Dominance" and telling women that too much estrogen was the reason for all their gynecologic problems. Then, he told them that progesterone was the cure (for everything). And, guess what? The Alternative & Complementary world uses progesterone for everything. So, Dr. Lee's message made women buy progesterone, believing that it's good for them and estrogen is bad for them.
      None of this is true. It's all marketing, not science. But it sure sold a lot of progesterone!
      This was never a valid school of thought. So the word "outdated" is irrelevant.

    If you've had a hysterectomy aren't there still benefits to taking Progesterone anyway? Is there any danger in taking Progesterone if you don't have a uterus?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  2 месяца назад

      Progesterone is something your body produces only for the benefit of a baby during pregnancy.
      The word, "progesterone" means "hormone in support of pregnancy:"
      "Pro" = in support of
      "Gest" = gestation (pregnancy)
      "One" = hormone
      Progesterone's only role during your reproductive life is to protect Baby Bear in utero. It does nothing for YOU.
      Once you are post-menopausal, progesterone's only role or benefit for you is to prevent uterine cancer. That's it!
      People who believe that progesterone has other benefits have fallen prey to marketing, not science.

    A question. I’m 51, perimenopuase. Been on Femoston 1/10 for 11 months. Bleeding has been regular until now. I’m on holidays for another week and seeing my doctor who prescribed my HRT when I get home. I’ve just started bleeding a week early on the gray tablets. Do I continue on the gray tablets till I see the doctor or start today on a new packet (the white tablets) or do I stop taking HRT until I see her? The pharmacist here couldn’t help me. Appreciate it.

      It’s an interesting question! But I think the progestin in Mirena is not entirely confined to the uterus. A small amount gets into the rest of the body. My gynecologist told me a progestin IUD is not as “safe” in that regard. (I have to say, though, that she unfortunately is one of the “fear mongers” Dr Taylor mentions in this video.)

    Estrogen dominance in the alternative space of health care means one has low progesterone, or has genetic snips that cause issues with the metabolism of estrogen by the liver.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  10 месяцев назад +5

      The whole theory of “estrogen dominance” was made up by Dr. John Lee of the Alternative community in order to get women to blame estrogen for all their gynecologic problems. His goal was to sell progesterone, which he touted as the “safe and beneficial” hormone. Well, his marketing worked. But it’s a complete fallacy. You can’t use progesterone instead of estrogen any more than you could wear a baby’s clothes instead of yours.
      You are “estrogen dominant” because you are female (Mama Bear) and estrogen is YOUR hormone. You are estrogen dominant for half of every menstrual cycle you ever have. And you are estrogen dominant during peri-menopause. But at post-menopause, you are estrogen deficient. And estrogen deficiency is what causes all the problems both short and long term once you reach post-menopause.
