Worry not guys, Kevin and Mook will return! We are gearing up for a very big series this spring that I think you guys will absolutely love! Besides, I didn't want to skip two weeks in a row.
I started watching this channel a few years back because Kevin reminds me of my older brother. My older brother passed away last week and I’ve been waiting for an upload to feel like I’m hanging out with him talking cars again. Thank you for what you all do!
Sorry to hear about your losses. Going on 2 years last February my dad passed. Really miss him some days. He taught me how to wrench and diagnose on cars. Old chevys were his favorite. God Bless
I'd like to apologize to Angus. When he came into the parts store I work at my coworkers and me included went nuts like a bunch of giddy school girls when we realized who he was. Sorry about that man. I hope if I ever meet you or any of the junkyard dig team in the future that I can better keep my composure. Keep up with the awesome content guys this channel rocks!
My buddy and I tore a rebuilt "350" out of an 86 Pontiac to put in his 65 Stude. Turned out it was an 86 305, we noticed this while it was half out if the Pontiac, took the heads off and it really was a fresh .040 rebuild with 0 miles on it. The car was rotten. We put a used .454/.454 crane cam in it, a vintage holley dual plane, and it's a fun street motor that puts a smile on anyone's face!
I am kind of loving the "back to Kevin in the studio" vibe. Angus gets to work on vehicles under primitive conditions, and Kevin gets to Google stuff from the comfort of his office. 😊 That makes Angus the "Jim Fowler" to Kevin's "Marlin Perkins", and I am old enough to really appreciate that dynamic.
Goes like this: ... ... "While Jim's manually tranquilizing the elephant, I'll be monitoring his progress back at home base with the two-way radio... how's it going, Jim?" Jim: "ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!" Marlin: "Well, it seems Jim's having a slight issue... we'll check back later"...
I had a 74 El Camino, they are actually quite decent for hauling, im sure you checked but mine had an air shock for hauling heavy loads, one of the 4 rear license plate "bolts"was actually a Schrader valve and cap you could fill with air to raise the back up. I carried my Honda foreman 4 wheeler a few hundred miles no problem, plus with no weight in the back with the shock filled you could get the classic rake. Keep up the good work
Angus does great work. El Caminos are getting harder to find. You should restore it, Angus! It does have the wrong front clip on it though. It came from, I believe, a 78-79. Great video, as always, guys!
This feels so at home for me, I lived and seen lots of places like the ones you see as a kid in elementary school on a bus at around 6:00 AM, sometimes I unironically miss going to school, but I wish I could experience it as a kid again, not forever, just whenever i feel nostalgic
Something YT has taught me Angus, twist the rachet strap slightly. Doesn't compromise strength and means it sheds the air better and drastically reduces the flapping that annoys the hell out of you going down the highway.
As a former long haul flatbed trucker, I can confirm this. Twist the strap 180 degrees. Not a full twist; just a half twist. Should have a twist on both sides of the load. This will spoil the airflow over the strap that would cause vibration, and it does NOT compromise the integrity of the strap, nor is a half twist a violation of any DOT safety regulations.
Sorry Angus but the floor pan is actually from a station wagon and the frame is as well. Before aftermarket quarter panels were being produced i used to go out west to Colorado and cut quarters off of station wagons for my 68-72 body style ElCaminos so that I could get rust free sheet metal.
I think that it's a really cool feature. Storage space for tools and such that is hidden away from would-be thieves. Kinda like a space or extended cab as the Americans say but secret.
The floor pan in these 78-88 El caminos are the same as all other g body cars, coupe, sedan, wagon. The frame is not the same as a wagon, its unique to the el camino.
@@elcaminosunlimited I didn’t realize that even after helping Dad narrow and tub his 81. I did learn from his that they are a real pain in the @$$ to fit a big block in. Not sure if that goes for all big block variations but with a blown engine using Hooker super comp headers with fabricated valve covers it was a nightmare to pull off without butchering the firewall, inner fenders and frame rails.
Angus seemed so much more comfortable doing this video. He made some good jokes and was very entertaining. I cracked up when he was getting under the car and said now time to turn this into a shelf. As someone with to many projects to finish it really hit home.
I recently came across this channel and it's quickly becoming one of my favorites! If you guys ever find yourself in Indiana I have a 1966 Mustang that hasn't run in about 5 years sitting in my garage that I'd love some help reviving. haha
I'd like to compliment you on your explanations of some of the basics of engines. I worked as a mechanic in the navy and thought I new stuff, but your explanations of dual plane versus single plane was very enlightening, keep it up thanks.
Maybe it's just me but my biggest attraction to this channel is the character and dry humor of JD and then in second place is the content which is awesome. I've let a couple of videos slide but when I get excited about watching a new JD video and then it's not Kevin I get disappointed like Bait n Switch.. Now nothing against Angus he is a great sidekick but I expect to see Kevin hosting JD.. I guess I will have to wait for the next one and hope Kevin returns because I am not watching these.
So FYI dash lights out might mean tail lights out. Check that fuse first. Just about all cars use the tail lights fuse for your dash lights so you will know right away that they are out.
Every time you see angus start a car in that garage I worry he’s going to die from carbon monoxide poisoning I’m sure he opens the door but it just gets me every time! Great video guys and gal!
2:35 the elco's had chrome trim on top of the bed, looks loke someone wanted to delete the trim and shaved the top of the bed side and never re-welded the metal. There should have been a metal peak like at the tailgate that was either pinch welded or folded over itself. I had a friend who found this out the hard way when he decided to shave the drip rails on his old car.
I know it's not the loved iconic looking El Camino but I just love the simple boxy early 80s look on some cars. Also appreciate the explanations from Kevin once again.
The elco has a semi built motor/ and a clean title easy fix. That makes it worth it, the truck had no title. And that's a nightmare depending on the state
Kevin your super smart I enjoy watching your visits being a car guy and going to school to work on stuff was involved in a atv accident so not being able to work on cars much due to a result of my accident nit having use of my right arm but watching these videos makes me feel better plus I learn even more everytime I watch you guys thanks for the videos
Kevin, thanks for the explanation on single vs dual plane intakes and carb spacers. Me and my friend were just talking about this today for his Corvette and that cleared some stuff up
Small block Chevrolet, I've always used either an RPM Air Gap or a Victor/Victor Jr on street cars. The Victor was actually better with midrange AND top end. If you have gears, a single plane will work, gears and a 4/5/6 speed manual or automatic. Single plane intakes can work in a street car , and you don't need an mega reving engine that lives over 6k RPM to get real world benefit from. It depends on a myriad of things, not just how tightly build the engine is.
since you're discussing intakes for a Camino that has a small block chevy, the performer RPM air gap is hands down the best dual plane intake, it's been proven time and time again.
I used to have one of those, the space behind the seats behind the carpet is where the spare tire used to go. They were also a great place to hide subwoofers. Used to call it the smugglers hold.
brought back a lot of memories. My dad and I both had el caminos at one time. My dads is an 81 and mine was a 83. We both drove pretty far to them and back home to get them. I don’t have mine anymore but we put a 5.3/ 4l80 in my dads. 🤟
I have an 83. Has a mild build 350. Not having overdrive is killing me with gas, also that cheaper than dollar store toy plastic controls are slowly crumbling to pieces and that terrible GM G body wiring is infuriating sometimes but I LOVE that car.
I think by 82 they had started using the egg crate grille with the 4 headlights. So I'm pretty sure this is a 78-80 front clip. Good to see you made it! 👍👍
Angus believe me my buddy has a 83 ElCamino and I had helped him replace his wheel cylinders in his drums and that FRICKEN RETAINING CLIP is a pain in the butt. I feel your pain
The old Edelbrock SP2P, don't know how many engines I've put those on - mind you, it is a VERY small runner manifold and tends to struggle around 4500rpm - but terrific low end torque and throttle response. Great for something you just want to drive and be pretty easy on gas, relatively anyway, we're still talking old engines and carbs.
I know that life is what happens when you plan other things and it's best to keep things in line on the home front. I enjoy watching Angus work on automobiles and I always listen to a man in a mad bomber hat.
82 Chevrolet El Camino ran good! A quick paint job after some body work and she will look real nice! Glad to see you made to it to and from in a 40 year old cool vehicle! Take care.
11:04 I wouldn't mind seeing how this would affect an I6. I've got a couple of Ford 300s and I plan on swapping their 1bbls out for 4bbls in due time. STock trim, they have a single plane intake 'log', but dual plane and single plane manifolds exist for them. They shouldn't have the vacuum signal oddness described here because of their naturally even firing order, but still.
Those can actually be especially weird because the center cylinders breathe so much easier than the outside ones, and have much different length runners!
@@JunkyardDigs I can definitely see that on my plugs as is, factory stock. #1 and #6 look lean burned, #3 and #4 look rich fouled, #2 and #5 look perfect. That matches up exactly to where the carb is in relation to those cylinders, with the carb being dead center in the manifold closest to 3/4 and farthest from 1/6. Definitely some uneven A/F distribution going on in there. But I've always chalked that up to the rather conservative, cheap-to-manufacture, intentionally-choking-it-off-to-sell-V8s stock intake log on my engine having been made with zero concern to distributing A/F mix evenly. Something I've noticed with the aftermarket intakes for the 300 I6 is that they are designed around a more even airflow whether single or dual plane, much more kin to what's on the Chrysler 225 Slant Six than what's on the ford 240/300, Chevy 250/292, AMC258, Jeep 4.0, et-al. I do know that, for peak performance on a carb with one of these big inch I6s, you want multiple carbs. 300s REALLY love a tri-power setup with each carb basically feeding its own pair of cylinders., but they need a hell of a cam or some really tiny carbs to take full advantage. In stock/mild builds like my engine is and will be they don't want more than about 425-450CFM total, which is very difficult to meet with three carbs. I'm planning on a single carb setup(Likely a 475cfm Truck Avenger paired with a Comp 260 cam and a 40-thou overbore) and want it to be just as dailyable as it is with the 1bbl it has now. Mook did swap the 250 out of the burnt Nova for a V8. Perhaps you could do a hotrod build on that engine and share some more tech tips with waking up the I6s in these old rigs. If massaged right they'll make the power of a V8 with 20-30% less fuel used!
I bought a 84 El Camino and drove it like 40 minutes home. The rear driver's brake only had the shoes, the adjuster, and the wheel cylinder nothing else. The backing plate was rusted around the wheel cylinder and it was moving freely around. I hate this set up for brakes.
19:54 Why did you not add the clip of the guy saying "I know what's wrong with it, It aint got no gas in it" after angus said it, it'd have been really funny XD
I absolutely love these videos, I have learned soooo much from you guys and many others in the "Junkyard Digs-iverse" all the way from basic level maintenance, to deep engine teardown and re-assembly and even body work! This stuff is awesome to watch and learn and now that I am finally getting somewhere on my own project, (1985 Dodge D-150), I can really put some of this knowledge into practice!
As much as I like Angus and his content I subbed to watch uploads with you and Mook. I get that you are busy with the new house but it's almost like your not even trying anymore.... C'mon Kevin lets have the old format back 👍
Who do we want? Kevin and Mook when do we want them ? Next video . Nothing against Angus but I follow the channel for Kevin and Mook sucks they haven't been here for the last few videos hopefully it's changes.
Worry not guys, Kevin and Mook will return! We are gearing up for a very big series this spring that I think you guys will absolutely love! Besides, I didn't want to skip two weeks in a row.
Can't wait to see this series on the sring is Dylan mccool and Luke going to re revive the black satlight
You are both people. Everyone needs time off.
With current weather problems take care of yourselves, I enjoy your regardless of who's the host, and catch every episode I can
Ahhh you must be doing that twin turbo limousine build you promised you'd do if we got you to a million likes on the video...

I'm sure your okay man I'm sure it made them feel like fuckin rockstars lol cause I know If I ever got to meet them or roadkill I'd react the same way
Nothing wrong with that. Just calm down, but its IMPOSSIBLE to do that, I know
I enjoy Angus' style and sense of humor. Please continue to have him on the channel.
I second this.
yes
I like Angus as another choice Host!
Angus is definitely getting more comfortable in front of the camera. He's a lot more relaxed and at ease. Good content as always.
he is getting soo much more comfortable with the camera. really enjoyed the video!!!
I love me some Angus. LoL
I love watching Angus get more and more comfortable with the camera and more personality coming out. Absolutely a great addition to the videos.

Great job Angus!
Yes! I was waiting for a video on an El Camino. One of my favorite cars Chevy ever made. Also, how does he not have any of his keys?
YEA!
More JYD and JDMook Content, or so I thought...
Still great content.
I bought a 84 El Camino and drove it like 40 minutes home. The rear driver's brake only had the shoes, the adjuster, and the wheel cylinder nothing else. The backing plate was rusted around the wheel cylinder and it was moving freely around. I hate this set up for brakes.
Gm for u
Ah the dual plane explanation makes so much sense when it comes to firing order, that would never have occured to me. Angus is great, keep it up.
I"m enjoying more of the Wackervision. Could that weird noise have been tire rub with the cycle in back?
You rock Angus! Thanks brother. Nice Job... Peace
Angus is always a win!!!! Great content!!!!
chevys never die, bodies just fall apart
Absolutely Love Angus!!!
19:54 Why did you not add the clip of the guy saying "I know what's wrong with it, It aint got no gas in it" after angus said it, it'd have been really funny XD
Oh god help us, Angus is back, calamity and chaos inbound!
C'mon Kevin lets have the old format back 👍
Thank you professor . Even the El Caminos back in the 50's were made on the car chassis. Ford also were sporting the car chassis with the Ranchero.
Who do we want? Kevin and Mook when do we want them ? Next video . Nothing against Angus but I follow the channel for Kevin and Mook sucks they haven't been here for the last few videos hopefully it's changes.
We will be back! Just trying to get moved into the new place so we can bring you guys a whole new level of stuff
Old Milwaukee!!! Nice, drink one for me.
