Bit of a safety tip. Never charge on the low side with only liquid (you can slowly introduce it into the system if the port is a good distance from the compressor, but it can be tricky). If you introduce to much liquid into the A/C compressor it can "slug" the compressor and cause damage. This damage can be much worse when the suction connection is actually at the compressor. liquid is not compressible. And now back to our normal content...already in progress.
Charging a system full of air and moisture never works long anyways. Unless u vacuum the system to remove air and vaporize the water in the lines from the atmosphere your just wasting money.
And don't put PAG oil into a converted R12 system. (Like he mentioned in the video) R12 to R134A conversions use Ester oil. Pag oil and mineral oil (used in R12 system) when mixed together make sludge.
You know when AMC was formed one of the companies that merged into it was Kelvinator? Kelvinator made refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. I say that to say they put the low side port on the receiver drier for a liquid fill or a vapor fill. A Liquid charge will work faster though...
I am no professional but I also thought it was a little strange to introduce liquid into the system on the get go. I always heard of not doing that or you can do damage to the compressor. However it seems like maybe there was enough Freon in the system to prevent it from locking up. No matter what, he lucked out on having a working A/C while driving in that hot and humid weather.
Hey I'd daily drive this car. But I have to say, I'm glad to see you hanging with Luke again. I loved it whenever you two worked on cars together because you always made me laugh
As an owner of several AMC cars, before even watching the vid, I will put my reputation and my AMC's Reputation on the line. These cars will get you where you need to go NO problem
I actually got to meet you in ATL (I was the guy who told you about the 2brl an at Summit)… I had a blast the day I was there meeting all the RUclipsrs I watch and enjoy. It’s so strange seeing you guys in real life, I mean you and luke kinda stick out like a sore thumb, but I almost missed Isaac and had to do a double take. It was a great experience for sure and maybe next year I can do more !!
That thing has one of the cleanest interiors I have seen. Thank you for hanging out with us and the cold snacks. Seeing you snag that sign was one of biggest highlights of the tour.
Yeah, Ike is such a friggin gem. That dude is just great. Hell, all of these tubers are. Ike, John, Charles, Kevin, Mook, Greg, Lonnie... I've unfortunately never met a single one of these people, but I know beyond shadow of doubt, they're my kinda peeps that'd give the shirt off their backs to help someone. Love you all, and maybe one day find myself buying some of you a beer or ten. Y'all deserve it!
Reminds me of my old 79 AMC Concord 2-Door Sedan. Great car, loved it. No power, but would get 20mpg with the air conditioner on. Wish I could find another one, but AMC's are sadly mostly all gone in the Northeast. That is a beautiful example, hope you keep it and don't destroy it.
Those old 258's are pretty well bulletproof. My old '78 CJ5 had a 258 and while everything else eventually fell apart on it the engine itself was still in great shape after all the crap I used to put it through.
This was actually my first car. My dad gave me the 69 AMC Concord and I had it back from Memphis Tennessee to Port Neches Texas. I don't remember I really liked the dashboard. I was 16 when that took place and I'm 41 now.
The old Concord was a great choice. And yeah, Power Tour, it's not about the destination, but the journey. The way people on the journey and locals on the path will come together to get folks back on the road is amazing. It's just an adventure. BTW, AMC fan here. I love seeing those things still going down the road. I keep watching for the right one to come along and I'll be an AMC owner once again. I spent some time in an 81 AMC Spirit hatchback with an Iron Duke and a 4 Speed. That was one of the toughest cars I've ever touched and I hope to find another.
Thank you Kevin for giving us a taste of that, i wish i could participate on events like that but i don't live in USA and my country doesn't have anything quite like this, maybe someday i can aford a trip to USA and enjoy it
I always wondered if Autozone/O'Reilly's/etc. stores prepare for Power Tour like department stores prepare for Black Friday. Extra security, hazard pay, etc.
@@JunkyardDigs Hey man, dealing with the smell alone from people driving in 100 degree weather with no AC for hours surely deserves some kind of reward! :D
Years ago my dad had a little used car lot and took in a Concord wagon on trade. Concords are the 2wd version of the Eagle cars. It was a nice original car in pretty decent shape, and relatively solid. The car was one of those fake woodies from the factory, but someone glued a strip of home wood paneling along the tops of the fenders by the hood. We went to remove them because it was unsightly, but low and behold the tops of fenders were rotted out all the way across both fenders, seemed to be the only rust in the whole car and it was such a odd place to rot out, so the paneling went righ back on 😂 They actually made a 4wd version of that car, they had the Eagle coupe, sedan, wagon, and a hatchback thing called the sx4
These cars were made in my hometown. AMC had a problem with the tops of the fender rusting. It may have had something to do with the outside air vents.
Kevin thank you for taking us along this was a fun video. Getting the opportunity to meet everyone would definitely be a lot of fun. it is a shame that Mook couldn't be there. I love seeing the amazing vehicles that is for sure. Driving the race track would be fun and definitely worth the price Keep up the great work
Nice Concord. I've got a 80 Spirit Street-Freak style with a 350/700r4 combo. Big and little tires, raised using Eagle front suspension and rear shackles. Power Tour is awesome. Did the whole thing in 2010 and different days of 6 other tours.
My first car in 1990! Ochre red, 4 door, started with 119086 miles. Put almost 40000 on it in 2 years. Learned how to change oil, antifreeze, and belts with this car. Many days of just cruising South Jersey and the Eastern Seaboard, living and learning. Thanks for posting!
The 1979 AMC Concord DL was the first brand new car I ever owned. Purchased it through military car sales when I was in Germany and picked it up in New Jersey when I came back to the states. Drove it cross country from NY to Washington with a side trip to Mt. Rushmore. I have a ton of fond memories of that car.
Awesome fun. Love me some Kevin and Ike time Dylan also. Glad to see y'all enjoyed yourselves. Kevin and Mook are the first ones I watched doing the get it running videos. Love all of yalls content
Since the clutch was engaging I would of added one can of sealer first then the refrigerant. I did this with a gm van and it has been working for 2 years.
Holy crap man!! My dad had the same identical car when I was about 8 or 9 years old. Right down to the same color and engine. Boy that brings back memories. Love it
Wow guys that’s awesome I worked with a guys that love Eagle wagons so much that he bought 10 -15 used Eagles just to have part‘s and to drive the rest of his life
Hoping one of these days we get to cruise together on Power Tour! I can whole heartedly say that you were the biggest inspiration for me to make it happen last year... We are the same age and seeing you do it in your wildcat then in the green cutlass I finally said "Alright I'm making it happen hell or high water" last year was an incredible experience long hauling for my first time ever and this year was mind blowing driving my crappy old farm truck 2100 miles to places I have never been before all whilst sharing the road with thousands of other hot rodders... I'm so glad that you are one of us that appreciates what Power Tour is REALLY about and not one of those that focuses on all the bad attributes... I tip my hat to ya Kevin. As well as all the youtubers that inspire me... Thanks as always for the awesome content and inspiration 🤘🤘🤘
My folks had an AMC Matadore with a small V8, no idea what size, but it was a good car. Jeeps last a while, especially the ones with I-6 engines like you have, most Diesels are that configuration and last longer than the vehicles they're in. The only thing missing was Mook, but you will get back home and see what kind of trouble she's found to get into.
20:00 - I had to fix the AC on my first car. AutoZone used to carry a kit that had connector and also 1 big can of combo R-134, PAG Oil and Stop Leak. Put that in and 2 short cans as seen here and it worked like a dream. Originally the AC Clutch wouldn't engage and would keep popping on/off.
38:13 in the green 66 was me. 😂🤣 When I sent my videos to Mike for his I said “yea, I said hey to Kevin and Issac like they would have a clue who I was.” 🤣😂

The Carter YF 2bbl used on the 258 (4.2) was notorious for flooding on hot restarts, especially if you parked on a steeper grade hill. Used to get a lot of "rescue me" calls where people would pump the gas pedal on a warm engine and flood it out, exactly as you describe here. The computer controlled feedback mixture / idle solenoid (black thing with a plunger on the right of the carb when looking from in front of the engine) liked to fail also. Pretty much bulletproof mechanically otherwise. Timing 6 deg. at 600-625 rpm (advance disconnected) if you want to tune it up. This is super clean for how old it is. With working brakes, safe tires and a cleaned fuel system I would have no problem road tripping one like that for a few hundred miles.
Dude I swear I was having the worst day ever and then I saw you Uploaded a new video and it gives me just a bit of a distraction. We wait for your videos. Thank you so much for what you do.
My younger brother had a 4 door '81 Concord in the early 90s. It was bought from a city fleet. It had the 2.5 4 cylinder with automatic and steelies with dog dish hubcaps. Blue with blue vinyl interior. Slower than molasses but once up to speed was a great highway car. Rode super smooth.
Awesome Video. Thank you for the ride along. I bought a 1986 AMC Eagle in early March that had been sitting in a field for over 20 years and got her running and driving good. Really wanted to do power tour, but didn't have the money to do so, maybe next year. She's my daily driver now.
I look forward to each an every one of these videos! Absolutely loved 48:00 through till the end. And welcome to Florida for the first time! We'd love to have you visit and save a few rusty old cars
Now that really looked like you all had a great time. I envy each and every one of you for taking a trip to Power Tour in those beautiful hot rods. Love every one of them. I wish I still would have my 71 Mustang Mach 1. I was so proud of that car. My first car my dad bought me back in 1981. I was the second owner and it was in rough shape. My dad bought it for 400 dollars. The guy was willing to let it go for 200 dollars because it smoked so much when it ran. My dad felt bad only paying 400 for it. I was offered $5000 dollars for it back in 85. I had it running great and put a midnight blue 2 stage paint job on it. I had the interior fixed up. Not perfect but it looked great. I lost it about 10 years ago when I went to jail for about a year and someone filed an abandoned title on it. I had it parked at a friends house and when he moved he parked it on the street in front of his old house. The new tenants filed the paper work and I never even got notified about it. Lost a beautiful car just about a month before I was released from jail. Years later I went through a few cars and now I have this 97 Nissan 200sx. It has a dent on the drivers side quarter panel and the paint is so bad. However it runs great and drives like a new car. Looks like crap but it has never left me anywhere. For that I am grateful.
About your brother's pool accident, how bad was the ding in the swimming pool? I'm glad to see you feed your cameraman. When is Mook going to put up some more Nova content. Also I was glad to see you stopped videoing and took time to enjoy Power Tour.

@@Dziugenonas my truck runs just fine and reaches full temp it just stays really low on the gauge since I put the bigger rad in it. My heater works fine and everything too. Theres a line on the gauge that marks the begining of normal temp and it stays right at the begining of it.

The best part of power tour is meeting and helping new friends. Worked on a guys car until 12pm one night. Didn’t learn his name until the next day. THE ABSOLUTE BEST PART! Next is burnouts in the parking lot.
Wooo wooo! Been looking forward to seeing this video! We'll take a break from wrenching to watch this straight through ;) Always good to run into you again Sir! And yes "Still Hot, Fat, and Bearded"
I had the exact same car in black, and it had chrome reverse wheels on it with those wire basket inserts. I paid $300.00 for it with 70k miles. It ran and drove smoothly, went up hills really well. After taking the baskets off the rims and buffing it all out, it cleaned up real good! I drove it all over California. The trans turned out to be the weakest link, so I dumped some treatment in it and sold it for $2k after spotting a gorgeous, one -owner 1973 Ambassador 401 wagon. I picked that up for $700.00 the evening I dumped the Concord! Fun video!
I sure miss my 78. You could literally steer it with 1 finger it was so smooth. Probably one of the best cars I've ever owned. And definitely the most reliable.
I wish I had something to drive to power tour. This would have been the year to go. I live in the Memphis area and my wife is from Atlanta so we could have started near home and ended by visiting the in laws. That would have been a great trip. Every place I see in this video looks so familiar because it's my home.
You said the only difference between this and the Eagle was AWD and its a wagon. Eagles came in 2 dr. Coupe, 2 dr. Hatchback, 4 dr. Sedan, 4 dr Wagon, and 2 dr. Convertible. The Concord was available in all of the same, with the exception of a 4 door hatchback being available in Mexico. There was also the AMX starting in 78 but it was considered a seperate line with no Concord badging whatsoever.
The Eagle SX/4 was basically the Spirit with 4wd. It came as a hatchback or with the same Kammaback as the Gremlin with conventional rear windows. The AMX you are talking about was indeed based on the Concord. Later, it was on the Spirit.
I own a 1979 Spirit that is my first car... I got it in 1989! As for parts, the engine is an AMC design that came out in 1965 if memory serves. The transmission is a Chrysler Torqueflite (Torque Command in AMC), the alternator is a GM 10SI, the upholstery fabric was sourced from Chrysler, the power steering gear box and pump are GM Saginaw units, the steering column is also a GM Saginaw unit, the rear axle is a Dana 35 (Dana 20 in V8 cars- the 304 was an option in 1978 and 79 and I believe Randall Motors in Mesa Arizona offered them with a 360 swap), the brake master cylinder is Delco, the calipers and wheel cylinders are from Bendix, the wiper motor is Ford, the Duraspark ignition is also Ford, the small plastic vacuum canister on the driver's side is GM, the power windows are Ford (if so equipped), as is the starter and solenoid (with an extra ground for neutral safety on the bottom of the solenoid that Ford never used) and the front suspension design is a knock off of a 1968 Ford Mustang. Oh... the carburator is a Carter BBD. BTW... the wheels are 80's aftermarket rims made by Western Wheels. You also should NOT use PAG in a R12 car. Use Ester oil instead since it is miscable with the old mineral oil used in R12 while PAG is not, and Ester works fine with R134a. Oh, and I believe it's named after Concord, New Hampshire. The Chrysler Concorde is named after the plane since it has an ending E. DL is the trim level. In 1979 (the year of your car), there was a base model, the DL and the Limited, which was the top trim with leather interior. There was also a super-rare silver anniversary edition (AMC was founded in 1954) which had a 2 tone gray and silver paint scheme. In 33 years of AMC ownership, I have only ever seen one. One last thing... your car has 110hp and 2.87 rear gears.
The 232 appeared in 1964 but was loosely based on a Willys/Nash design dating back to 1952. Great little engines in very underappreciated cars. I really want a Hornet wagon.
@@tomadkins2866 232 was a clean sheet design. But basically all American OHV inline 6s are similiar. The rear axle in this car was the small AMC rear end. Built in house. In the late 80s they sent all the rear end equipment to DANA except for the Ring and Pinion gear cutters. The Chinese bought those. Gear sets in AMC rear ends were exceptionally quiet. In the 70s they were contracted by Ford to supply gear sets for the MPG econobox Mavericks. Those gear sets were noisy as hell. The AMC sets were lapped and the Fords weren't.
These also have a bullet proof Chrysler Torque-Flite 727 3 speed Auto trans which AMC used from 1971-1988. The same trans from a 1977-1989 M Body Dodge Diplomat 1982-1989 Chrysler fifth Avenue/Plymouth Gran Fury trans will fit this as well as the A704 trans as well AMC used too.
@@jjtrucker5950 Correct. Prior to 1971 AMC used Borg-Warner transmissions. If you look on the gear indicator you will see "Shift Command." On the cars equipped with Chrysler transmissions it says "Torque Command."

As an owner of several AMC cars, before even watching the vid, I will put my reputation and my AMC's Reputation on the line. These cars will get you where you need to go NO problem

Even if it got hit by a dump truck!!
They were a lot better cars than most knew.I like them a lot.

It was a great experience for sure and maybe next year I can do more !!
this is the kind of content that makes this channel great
It really is!
That thing has one of the cleanest interiors I have seen. Thank you for hanging out with us and the cold snacks. Seeing you snag that sign was one of biggest highlights of the tour.
Ike is awesome in an environment like this, would love to see him more outside of C&C.
He has a channel based on cars! @isaacitllbefine
@@elesjuan don't forget Dylan
Great video Kevin. Thanks for taking us along.
you got the thumbs up when y'all helped that guy with his points - i really felt the spirit of Power Tour!
That was one heckuva epic trip. Wow. My uncle had a couple AMX cars. Rip Uncle Gary
Thank you Kevin for giving us a taste of that, i wish i could participate on events like that but i don't live in USA and my country doesn't have anything quite like this, maybe someday i can aford a trip to USA and enjoy it
Same here. This is an awesome way to enjoy it
I always wondered if Autozone/O'Reilly's/etc. stores prepare for Power Tour like department stores prepare for Black Friday. Extra security, hazard pay, etc.
Hazard pay😂
i would think they do

Would be crazy not to.
@@JunkyardDigs Hey man, dealing with the smell alone from people driving in 100 degree weather with no AC for hours surely deserves some kind of reward! :D
Why, just more revenue,,,
Years ago my dad had a little used car lot and took in a Concord wagon on trade. Concords are the 2wd version of the Eagle cars. It was a nice original car in pretty decent shape, and relatively solid. The car was one of those fake woodies from the factory, but someone glued a strip of home wood paneling along the tops of the fenders by the hood. We went to remove them because it was unsightly, but low and behold the tops of fenders were rotted out all the way across both fenders, seemed to be the only rust in the whole car and it was such a odd place to rot out, so the paneling went righ back on 😂
They actually made a 4wd version of that car, they had the Eagle coupe, sedan, wagon, and a hatchback thing called the sx4
I had a Concord for a short time, too. Rust was in the same place as you described.
These cars were made in my hometown. AMC had a problem with the tops of the fender rusting. It may have had something to do with the outside air vents.
the coupe/2dr was available in Fastback (SX4), notchback, kammback and targa top (rare AF)
My 1974 Hornet had the tops of the fenders rust out first. The rest of the car after.
@@dalesworld1308
The Hornet was the same car as the Concord. I always thought the Hornet badge was So Cool when I was a kid.
Kevin thank you for taking us along this was a fun video. Getting the opportunity to meet everyone would definitely be a lot of fun. it is a shame that Mook couldn't be there. I love seeing the amazing vehicles that is for sure. Driving the race track would be fun and definitely worth the price Keep up the great work
I really like this presentation, just a highlight real of whatever you felt like filming. Easy to digest the whole trip.
These are some of my favorite episodes. You, Issac, Luke and Dylan together make for some compelling videos.
Is it Isaac ??? Just curious ...1 Isaac to another ..issac...
Nice Concord. I've got a 80 Spirit Street-Freak style with a 350/700r4 combo. Big and little tires, raised using Eagle front suspension and rear shackles. Power Tour is awesome. Did the whole thing in 2010 and different days of 6 other tours.
My cat absolutely hated the belt squeal as it would wake him and I was hoping to keep hearing it throughout the video.. you did not disappoint.
As a Canadian I think I’d die of heat exhaustion… but it was fun to watch virtually, so thanks for sharing!👌🇨🇦😎
KEVIN- this is the side of power tour that I wanted to see !!! Thanks for sharing ( even tho it woulda been a lot more fun and convenient to not film)

Awesome that you turned the small adventure into a big adventure and took us along. And even got to the beach!
Great new car, good to see Luke and Dylan and yourself hanging out
38:13 in the green 66 was me. 😂🤣
When I sent my videos to Mike for his I said “yea, I said hey to Kevin and Issac like they would have a clue who I was.” 🤣😂

The Concord / Condor situation had me highly amused 😂
Yes, and had me thinking why do I know Concord grapes?
Ahhh yes, 1979. I was 12yo and it was the "Blizzard of 79" here in Chicago. Had the time of my life being 12 and all the snow a kid could ever want.
Me too only just north of you in Racine WI.. 6th grade

Poor Ike! He almost had that dejected "Al Bundy" look. 🤣🤣
Awesome Video. Thank you for the ride along. I bought a 1986 AMC Eagle in early March that had been sitting in a field for over 20 years and got her running and driving good. Really wanted to do power tour, but didn't have the money to do so, maybe next year. She's my daily driver now.

that "Condor" bit was funny as hell ... even funnier because it wasnt a bit lol
Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your power tour will likely never get to do it myself

45:04 my 1994 F-150 runs super cool too. It has a huge radiator in it from the 7.3 powersmoke. It warms up but sits at the very bottom of the normal area. the heater works great too, Its like 3 inches thick and like 4 feet wide its huge!
What motor does it have? I have a 4.9 and I might do that to mine if it’ll fit. I think the hoses are on the opposite sides though.
@@GasGuzler mine is a 302 and 5 speed. Theres only 2 choices for rad’s on these for all motors and 150-350 theres a 1 inch and 3 inch thick rads. get the bigger one. its only like $80 more but mine stays on the N in normal on the gauge. Buy the bigger one i’m 90% sure it’ll fit but if it doesn’t then just go swap it out or return it!
The size of the radiator should not affect the engine's ability to fully reach operating temperature, provided the thermostat works as it should.
@@Dziugenonas my truck runs just fine and reaches full temp it just stays really low on the gauge since I put the bigger rad in it. My heater works fine and everything too. Theres a line on the gauge that marks the begining of normal temp and it stays right at the begining of it.
@@mromatic17 Unless you were always slightly overheating prior to changing the radiator, I wonder why the size of the radiator would lower the temps. The thermostat still opens and closes at the same temperature.
Fun video!
Hey Kevin there is also a 1973 Dodge Concord, look it up, I bet You will be surprised ! Cool vid guys .
I sure miss my 78. You could literally steer it with 1 finger it was so smooth. Probably one of the best cars I've ever owned. And definitely the most reliable.
I wish I had something to drive to power tour. This would have been the year to go.
He owns an AMC eagle wagon. That's what he was referencing was the eagle he owns.
@@tomadkins2866
232 was a clean sheet design.
Only the AMC V8 cars used the 727, most 258 L6 cars used the 904, a few may have used the 998
@@jjtrucker5950 Correct. Prior to 1971 AMC used Borg-Warner transmissions. If you look on the gear indicator you will see "Shift Command." On the cars equipped with Chrysler transmissions it says "Torque Command."
Wow
It's awesome to watch you just randomly buy a car and drive it across the country in this event 👍👍👍
Those Buick Apollo's are extremely rare. They were only made from 73-75 on GM's Nova line, along with the Ventura and the Omega 👍
Former coworker of mine had a red '74 Apollo that everyone called the Apollo 13.
