Dear Angus, I'm about halfway through the video currently. I really enjoy Kevin's videos here, but dude I really enjoy your videos too. Please know that you are appreciated. Cool video so far.
I love when Angus hosts a video, or just appears in one. He has great pacing in his very educational explainations and narration. Respectful and friendly with the owner, as well.
yeah cuz it probally would’ve sat there till he died. at least he can tinker with it and drive it around it what i love about old cars they are like time machines!
OLD TIMER??? He's not THAT old. A guy is not an OLD TIMER until he is over 80. SHEESH...Darned young pups.. no respect for Boomers or Gen Xers.... Calling us OLD...
Anges, you made that man's day. Not just getting car running, but taking time with him and his car. I really wish more younger guys would take that interest.
Great video! When I first arrive in the U.S. in May, 1958 I was a mechanic on Bedford Avenue here in Brooklyn, New York. I had a businessman who had a '57 Mercury Monterey 4dr Sedan. I work on that for 4 year taking care that car until I enlisted in U.S. Army in June, 1962. You brought back soon very good memories. Take care of yourself!
The smile on the old fellers face when he was talking about walking the T-Bird off the light was the highlight of this video. Men might get older, but we never really grow up......thank God! Great revival.
THAT WAS A FANTASTIC VIDEO!!! I love the revival stuff that you guys do, but to have Angus get that car back on the road and have the man that loves that car behind the wheel is super special. It's awesome when you guys revive something, but when you're able to put someone back behind the wheel of a car that they really love it just takes it to another level. Awesome car. Awesome revival. Awesome story. They don't all have to be hard. Great work.
I would love to find a 57 mercury I could afford. Sounded like a bad spark plug. They were bad about blowing a spark plug completely out of the engine if you didn’t tighten down good. I had one of these back when they were relatively new.
Man, what an awesome car, and that Continental kit just really finishes the look. And she's so eager, too! Just rearing to go! Another great video, and it's so nice to see Angus growing more confident in front of the camera on his own and developing his own style of presentation. Plus, it was great to see the owner of the car helping with the revival and sharing great stories of the car's history!😊
There ain"t many things prettier than the 50"s Mercs. I have always been a fan of Mercury cars and will always will be! Thanks for getting it back runnind and for sharing the video with us.
Give us more Angus Hosted videos. I know this one is a little old, looks like he's still finding his "voice" but as a 16yr tech the advice, shenanigans, and overall vibe you guys provide is A+. will be buying merch asap
when i try to clean out the points after sanding i use a piece of cardboard with a rag wrapped on it, bit of gas on the rag to remove any stickies in there
Fuzzy dice, Continental Kit, rear skirts. . . ah, they made 'em great back then! I was four in 57. I can remember that era, and all those cars going all the way into the mid-sixties! That's a GREAT car!!!!
My parents had a 57 Mercury. Bought new in California. Showy Red and White. But, our was a different model than this. Our hood did not open like that, our back wings were totally different , we did not have button transmition and our front sets were separate and had a arm rest between. Which I would sit on as a toddler. No seat beats were required back then. We had that thing for 18 years until my brother wrecked it. We had a wood board under the back of the drivers seat to keep it propped up. The Naugahyde was still in perfect shape until the end. We took so many camping trips in ours.
Awesome ! You did a really nice thing for your neighbor , got an old car on the road again , and I bet your neighbor will keep it running and enjoy it ! Nice job
What a beautiful old gem that is. Lucky guy to still have that in his possession. Amazing how quick and easy it started then run like new. I would replace the headliner and do like you said and keep washing and buffing that residue out of it wax it and let it be. And drive it some and enter it in parades and local car shows. Quite the conversation piece 👌 Great job
Bit late to the party, but loved the video! Brings back memories of helping my old man with his Y-powered '55-'58 Customlines and Mainline utes. That distinctive starter noise followed by the "Bloob-bloob-bloob-bloob" exhaust tone when the old 272s finally coughed into life 😅
I'm so glad yall posted today. I've had a terrible week despite finally submitting the manuscript of my book after 7.5 months of work. I can finally relax and just watch one of my favorite channels
Just watched the segment with you talking about being patient with the sponsor portion, I don't know about everyone else, but it's worth it to watch the 5 minutes of ad or whatever it is. The content on this channel is top notch, love it, keep doing what you guys are doing, no matter what it is it's amazing to watch! If you guys are ever in Ohio, hit me up! I got a hot rod shop if that's enticing! Keep it up guys! God bless
I don’t think you guys could even imagine my face when you said y’all were up in the WI northwoods. Always gets me excited when I see content from my neck of the woods.
Wow!!!! Somebody actually set the boat tank on the roof. I always did that when doing a will it run. With the tank up high, gravity feed of fuel makes it easy to ensure fuel flow to carb or pump.
Wow. My grandpa had a ‘57 4-door Monterey. Was super rare because most of the 4-doors were family cars that didn’t survive compared to the more desirable 2-dr. The lines on that car are gorgeous and just an insane amount of room everywhere. Thanks for this video, brought back so many memories.
I love these old cars. Reminds me of watching Perry Mason and all the old Ford Mercurys and Lincolns. Big old beasts with lots of hardened steal and lots of chrome as well.
I have followed this channel for a long time and this is one of the BEST I've seen! YES, MOOK and Kevin are awesome!!! But if I were standing on a street and that car passed by, HELL YEAH I'd be saying LOOK AT THAT CAR!! Yes, it needs full restoration and I hope he will do that because that is one classy old car! Thanks for everything you did! I hope we see it again, and again lol
I was born in November of '56, by which time the '57s were already out. My uncle had a '57 Ford. No PCV valves in those days, just a crankcase breather tube.
More difficult to park, but what a beauty. The old cars sure looked different. I too think it is a wonderful concept, just helping people get their old cars back on the road, especially the rare ones.
Angus great job buddy getting this beauty on the road again. I used to own a 1964 Mercury Monterey. It had a 390, and man was she fun to drive she was a beast.
Holy heck. This car has so many similarities to a car my father bought in the 70s and wanted to give me, yet I didn't have any place to keep it.... Was a '58 Edsel Pacer 4-door hardtop. The glass, the body lines, doors, fenders, hood hinges, teletouch transmission, interior... Jesus..
Great people skills Angus, you can really tell how much Ira is enjoying your visit! You could make it into a recurring segment; meet new people and get their cool cars to run.
I always carry a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a thin cotton rag with me when I work on cars with points. Put alcohol on the corner of the rag, open up the points, slide the wet corner between the points and close the points on the rag and pull the rag out. You should now have clean points. It may take more than one cleaning and the alcohol evaporates immediately!
Absolutely beautiful car! I love the style, the character, the story, the spare wheel, and so much more! Awesome that it didn't take too much work either. Loved watching this video!
I turned 4 years old during the 1957 model year, and I dreamed about the 1957 Mercury as being the ideal car during that time. This video really shows how much better engine access is with a front-hinged hood.
Love the car. I've found that those thin air filters actually choke the motor down. Easy enough to find out just remove it while the motors running if the rpms go up it's to restrictive.
It's always good to see Angus and seeing an old 50's Mercury was even better. Just remember that the old steering bushings and front end rubbers tend to perish, hence why it handles like a boat. That might be something for Angus to show us by working on the steering and how to tighten them up so they steer better!
WOWOOWOWOWO BROOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! THE BEST PART OF THIS VID WAS THE CLEAN-UP DAMNNNNNN THAT THING CAME OUT SOOO GOOD-LOOKING!!!! WHAT A RARE KOOL ASS LOOKING CAR THAT IS!!!!!!!! JUST SAYIN!!! THANKS, F.M.V.
Beautiful antique! I'm stoked to see it again. Nice seeing Angus back as well. You could hear the pure astonishment in his voice. He enjoyed this one. So did I.
I love watching each Junkyard Digs video; such an awesome, fun, and talented team, but........ MORE ANGUS VIDEOS! You so comfortably built a rapport with this gentleman, allowing him to share that oh-so-cool Merc's story (was it lowered in the back???). This "help a person get their beloved vehicle back on the road" approach might be a "satisfying" twist on the "will it run" theme, particularly with unique cars like this 57 Merc. More content like this, Angus!
Great video.. love Angus. Too many times an old car gets parked and left to rot. Great that the owner let you work on it. Hope he keeps driving it and can get a garage.
Pretty dang cool. The older I get the more beautiful I find these 50's cars styling. Those body panels and lines... And like you said, the heavy detent metal buttons and flashy dashes... So awesome. Glad this dude got to take his car for a ride again. Was a little nervous that first drive lol but it ended well!
What a cool old survivor car! I was pretty surprised when he said it had only been down 5 years. I bet he'll be really happy having it back on the road again :) Good work Angus!
I think that that ‘57 Mercury is a true classic. The long rear deck is fabulous. The continental helps for sure, but the fender skirts do more for its great look. The 312 engine was and is great. I have not been a Ford enthusiast; I was a GM enthusiast in the 1060’s - my high school years. However, this ’57 Mercury, 4 door hard top, with the popular 50’s Ford pink roof, is wonderful. Thanks for resurrecting it and may the owner enjoy it for years to come.
I love that car and getting to see genuine Americana! As a child of the early 70's, i love seeing these older cars get renewed and refurbished by you guys!

Leave it to angus to get the sweetest cars to get going…this car was a beauty!!! Kinda jealous I am not able to ride in it, keep up the good work angus!!!
good video! my 1983 Nissan pickup, i put 1gallon of stale yellow gas in an almost full tank, the shellac hit the hot valves and when it cooled down it locked the valves completely. i had the head off twice took the valves out and got it going finally. new head gasket rwice new timing gear set wasnt cheap, it wasnt worth it, never again
I would have to say that out of all era's of cars and trucks that the 1950's are my top favorite. They had the most style to them imo, they were made to look good and they rode nice. Being the 50's they also had some cars with wacky designs to the just to be different. :)
Angus, mate. Haven’t seen ya in yonks! Loved the video. I was surprised that it didn’t really take much to get the ol Mercury rippin again. I hope Ora drives it regularly, she deserves a weekly run to the servo for an ice cream. Maybe next vid, whack in a dual bowl brake master cylinder. 🇦🇺🤙🏼
Just found this channel, I am based in the UK and I'm loving the content. This man was so friendly and seemed genuinely happy for you to help 👍 what a beautiful looking car, they never made them like that over here
This is awesome. Quick tip always use a little squirt of premix so it will lubricate the top end. No residual oil from not being ran in so long and starter fluid is a good way to polish your rings.
One of my favorite videos! That guy reminds me a lot of my dad and I wish he'd buy something awesome like this for us to mess around with. He refuses to, but helps me with my crap boxes so there's that lol

How much it means to that guy to have someone interested in the car and get it cleaned up and running again has gotta be priceless.
It’s a really great feeling seeing as young guy respectfully helping end working along side one of us older guys
AWESOME!!!! Looks like it may need some rear springs and/or shocks. With modern road dips, that Continental Kit is in mortal danger.

That’s was awesome angus you got to play with that beautiful car and you helped the guy out by getting it running again your a good guy 👍👍👍
One of my favorite videos! That guy reminds me a lot of my dad and I wish he'd buy something awesome like this for us to mess around with. He refuses to, but helps me with my crap boxes so there's that lol
