The AR is simply a platform. Without getting into a lot of details here. I would just suggest that you find a "Gun Store" that has a certified armorer that can actually work on your guns. Then discuss with them what you want the AR to be able to do. Everything from long distance hunting to up close personal protection. They are such versatile platforms that you can set them up for many different scenarios. Be careful because they are like potato chips, you can't have just one....
There is some good news here in Canada. Two western provinces have told Ottawa where to shove their gun confiscation program. Police activity is directed by provincial governments and Alberta and Saskatchewan have declared that their police are too busy with other duties to participate. You're exactly right. People need to start opening their eyes and ears. Stanley correctly pointed out the simplest argument and that is that all you've got to do is learn your history. You don't need a crystal ball to see what lies ahead in the future or what the government's intentions are. It's all written in the history books. And I do mean books because they can easily change internet propaganda.
As far as getting an AR the sky is the limit with price. Something in the 700-1100 dollar range will be a mid range. The cheaper ones run just fine too, just not usually as smooth or accurate and usually over gassed. Get a 5.56 nato or 223 wylde chamber in a 1 in 8 twist rate. Both of those chambers can shoot either .223 or 5.56 well and the twist rate will allow you to use 55 to 77 grain projectiles and still keep them stable. Mid length gas system will be a smoother shooter with less gas pressure than the carbine length gas system. The carbine gas system is usually over gassed slightly which will make it more reliable when dirty but will also be harder on internal parts and harsher to shoot. They don't have much recoil anyways but mid length is still more pleasant to shoot. Make sure it has a floating handguard (doesn't touch the barrel)and put a decent red dot or lpvo 1-6 power scope on top. If it will be for home defense you may want a light too. Backup iron sights are optional incase something happens to your optic of choice. Then stop and don't put anymore crap on it, keep it light and clean They aren't going to ban them anyways since the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association V Bruen supreme court decision. Basically it backed up the Heller decision and made it stronger. The new test for new gun laws is based on history, text, tradition and whether or not they are in common use. States will pass new laws and then they will be sued until the courts stike them down as unconstitutional. Just takes time to go through the process. Everybody still needs to stay vigilant though and support Gun Owners of America. They are the ones really bringing the fight anywhere across the country.
It is way worse than what you indicated in Canada. Our Great Leader told us that we do not have the right to self defense with a gun. He had banned or in process of banning over 1500 rifles and long guns, some which are single shot and some small caliber plinkers. Hand guns are practically outlawed. Our guns laws make it impractical for self defense since guns and ammo have to be locked up separately. The list goes on. Our Great Leader also said that he found protests against government policy (him) disturbing. He calls people with dissenting opinion extremists, racist, bigots, Islamophobic and transphobic. So showing how other governments have used gun control to squash dissent literally hits home.

For the AR, just keep it simple. Ruger has a nice one that is inexpensive to buy. Put on a rail system, add a forearm of your choice and a good sling. The money you save you can then get a good optic which is most important. The gun will function as good as a 2-3K one for your defense. So, for under 2K you have a great gun with a great $600 optic that is included in that price. Have fun,be safe, and stay vigilant.

In Canada way more of us have guns that the government knows nothing about. The Canadian government just drove owning a gun underground but a the same time home protection has moved to other weapons not on the government hit list.. I have a mini crossbow that is illegal to own but if someone comes into my house they will get a 6 inch arrow that they will never hear coming and it is very affective in a house setting..

Just purchased my first shotgun recently. I've always been pro gun but never got around to owning one. With the possible financial collapse on the horizon, I want to be prepared to defend myself.
I have been working in and around the gun business for most of my adult life. When it comes to shotguns, I would really recommend that you stay away from most all of the Box magazine fed guns. Many of them have reliability issues, some of them have poorly designed magazines that while they may work, are not very durable. Spare mags can be pricey and hard to find. Additionally, when you start to get into high-capacity, the gun gets very heavy and unwieldy. I am old school. A Remington 870 with an extended mag tube in 12 Ga. with a riot barrel, some good rifle or ghost ring sights, (or at our age a Red Dot) would be a great place to start. Get it equipped with a side saddle to keep extra ammo ready to slide into the mag tube, then get yourself a shotshell bandolier that you can keep loaded with slugs and buckshot as you deem necessary. Hang the bandolier with the shotgun together in the safe so that they can both be grabbed immediately when needed. My next choice in a shotgun would be a Mossberg 590, and the truth of the matter is I would be happy with either one. My third choice would be a semi-auto like a Benelli. In the long term, parts availability will be far better with the two pump guns.As to the rifle, you can't go wrong with the Daniel Defense DDM4 series. If you don't want to spend that much, a Ruger or Smith and Wesson are very good for the money. For folks on a tight budget, the Palmetto State Armory rifles provide a lot of gun for not much money. While I'm a big fan of the 300 blk for suppressed and home defense applications, the wide availability of 5.56 would make it my hands down first choice. I'm a revolver man, first and formost for hunting, recreation, and target shooting, but when it comes to defense, I always have an autoloader (Glock) on. 9mm, 40, or .45 all work with modern defensive ammo. I recommend 9mm due to ammo availability. Get yourself a good holster that works for you. You'll likely end up buying several until you find one that works for you. As someone who has carried a handgun most every day for a good part of forty years, I tell you that I love leather but have found that a good polymer rig will last much longer. Drum fed shotguns have massive failure to feed issues which can be fixed by a good gunsmith but it takes a lot of trial and error range time. 5.56 in my opinion is they way to go with a thermal scope. ammo is plentiful and fairly cheap.

Colorado is following California and Washington state as we speak. They have a bill calling for an assault weapons ban that's rolling through the legislature right now, if passed into law will ban about 80% of the firearms on the market, including some pistols. Other bills include weapons in sensitive areas, gun storage in your vehicle, an excessive tax on ammunition (10% hike), modifying existing red-flag laws, and more. Time to stock up. Everything you said is true, but I doubt the United States will end up "Exterminating people" of gun control. Hell would break loose if that happened. If you want an AR-15, I just heard yesterday the ammo for it is changing from a 5.56 (.223) to the new and improved round 6.8 x 43. You might invest in the latest round to stay updated, but the 5.56 (.223) will probably still exist for several years according to my source. There are a lot of AR's out there with this round so I couldn't imagine it won't be available for years to come. The AR is really fun to shoot. Make sure you get one that's a chrome barrel. I love my Rock River, but there are other brands out there. What's really nice about the AR platform is you can build one from the ground up to your liking. I also have one I built for around $700. I think it’s always a good idea to go with what our military is using and what our near pier is using. Same caliber. That way you never run out of ammo or mags.

You got the cash get a Barrett, Knight Armaments', HK, Colt, Smith & Wesson, CMMG, BCM the list goes on! If you want a battle rifle it matters more about what the parts are made of such as; a hammer forged chromoly steel barrel that is chrome lined will withstand more heat, Direct Impingement seems to be more reliable than the piston guns (not sure of the exact name for them). The Smith & Wesson will be the cheaper option and the only foreign manufacturer I named was HK!

Not necessarily. I've heard that during the American Revolution the Patriots were only like 1/3. You'll waste valuable time and energy trying to get everyone on your side. All you need is the right people.
1). Take a training class ($600course + $300 ammo +$100 hotel)= time and money well spent as YOU will have the answers to what you need after this course (I'm biased to Tactical Response fighting rifle but find reviews first and see where that instructor went to further their own knowledge.) 2). Drum mag or box mag shotguns will jam 100% after a few weeks with a loaded magazine. Cylinders (shotgun shell) are strongest in compression (like in a magazine tube) but very week from side load. In a box or drum magazine stacked with side pressure they will turn to ovals, and no longer feed into the chamber. Beretta 1301 (semi) or Mossberg 500 (pump) (they make a 8 shell version) are go to designs. 3). S&W M&P15 with free float mlok 12" rail, light weight barrel is a good baseline. Just to have around and fire a few times a year Palmetto State Armory is fine (get nitride light weight barrel at least), but going the extra mile a Daniel Defense or BCM option will outlast you.
I live in Cali - I have an AR10 and when I handled an AR15 I liked how light they are. I never felt like I would NEED a semi auto rifle til about 5 yrs ago Bear Creek makes some affordable ones too
Stan, this is the BEST video you have EVER done! I'd vote for a mini 14. It's a .223 but it's a ranch gun, less agressive looking. In fact I like the wood stock, very cool gun. There's a 9mm carbine that's very cool too, shorter in length. I'm with ya. Revolvers are a MUST have for reliability. This country is in trouble, BAD! God Help us!
I was just at Stock & Barrel Gun Club over in Eagan a few days ago. I recommend talking to some of the guys there about what you want the AR for / what you want it to do. Very knowledgeable group of guys and they have a huge selection of handguns and long guns to rent for only $20 each. Good way to try before you buy.

Crazy history facts! History that has been conveniently tucked away from our classrooms. If I was in the market for an AR I would purchase a Daniel Defense. Yes they are expensive, but extremely reliable. My cuz has an AR platform shotgun. He turkey hunts with it lol. It's neat but limited in that it's still a shotty.

Stanley you nailed it, as far as an AR15 there are many good ones you can choose from Colt to Daniel defense. I would recommend 5.56 for the shear availability of ammo, which there is a wide variety of. Get yourself a BAD Lever for it, a Primary Arms scope with ACSS reticule (great scope without breaking the bank) which will allow quick enough close range tactics as well as a long enough range to reach out. That’s a lot of bolt and pump actions, not a whole lot of semi autos… might need to add a few glocks and AR/AK rifles to that collection. Knights, LMT, Daniel defense, BCM, geissele. All of those make good equipment.
We need to make sure that if they do take our gun rights away you just keep your mouth shut about what you do have at your house and if you do have it at your house you don't keep it at your house for very long and if you do have any ammo you keep that someplace else but that you can still get to it and I would go and buy as much ammo as I could as much Hammer as I could before they make it so that they start keeping track of that like they do in Colorado here

The AR is simply a platform. Without getting into a lot of details here. I would just suggest that you find a "Gun Store" that has a certified armorer that can actually work on your guns. Then discuss with them what you want the AR to be able to do. Everything from long distance hunting to up close personal protection. They are such versatile platforms that you can set them up for many different scenarios. Be careful because they are like potato chips, you can't have just one....
There is some good news here in Canada. Two western provinces have told Ottawa where to shove their gun confiscation program. Police activity is directed by provincial governments and Alberta and Saskatchewan have declared that their police are too busy with other duties to participate. God bless Premiers Scott Moe and Danielle Smith.

While I think that is great, I think you are misinformed. It is a federal mandate so they will have to tow the line. But since there are so few people with ar's and 50 cals it will not effect many people. Now before you get up in arms the gun lobby groups are the ones that came up with these facts.

You don't need a crystal ball to see what lies ahead in the future or what the government's intentions are.

And I do mean books because they can easily change internet propaganda.
As far as getting an AR the sky is the limit with price. Something in the 700-1100 dollar range will be a mid range. The cheaper ones run just fine too, just not usually as smooth or accurate and usually over gassed. Get a 5.56 nato or 223 wylde chamber in a 1 in 8 twist rate. Both of those chambers can shoot either .223 or 5.56 well and the twist rate will allow you to use 55 to 77 grain projectiles and still keep them stable. Mid length gas system will be a smoother shooter with less gas pressure than the carbine length gas system. The carbine gas system is usually over gassed slightly which will make it more reliable when dirty but will also be harder on internal parts and harsher to shoot. They don't have much recoil anyways but mid length is still more pleasant to shoot. Make sure it has a floating handguard (doesn't touch the barrel)and put a decent red dot or lpvo 1-6 power scope on top. If it will be for home defense you may want a light too. Backup iron sights are optional incase something happens to your optic of choice. Then stop and don't put anymore crap on it, keep it light and clean
They aren't going to ban them anyways since the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association V Bruen supreme court decision. Basically it backed up the Heller decision and made it stronger. The new test for new gun laws is based on history, text, tradition and whether or not they are in common use. States will pass new laws and then they will be sued until the courts stike them down as unconstitutional. Just takes time to go through the process. Everybody still needs to stay vigilant though and support Gun Owners of America. They are the ones really bringing the fight anywhere across the country.

It is way worse than what you indicated in Canada. Our Great Leader told us that we do not have the right to self defense with a gun. He had banned or in process of banning over 1500 rifles and long guns, some which are single shot and some small caliber plinkers. Hand guns are practically outlawed. Our guns laws make it impractical for self defense since guns and ammo have to be locked up separately. The list goes on. Our Great Leader also said that he found protests against government policy (him) disturbing. He calls people with dissenting opinion extremists, racist, bigots, Islamophobic and transphobic. So showing how other governments have used gun control to squash dissent literally hits home.

For the AR, just keep it simple. Ruger has a nice one that is inexpensive to buy. Put on a rail system, add a forearm of your choice and a good sling. The money you save you can then get a good optic which is most important. The gun will function as good as a 2-3K one for your defense. So, for under 2K you have a great gun with a great $600 optic that is included in that price. Have fun,be safe, and stay vigilant.

If you want to spend a chunk on a nice AR there are plenty of options out there which are great but you can also build some nice ones out for $600-1k palmetto state armory has some great options.

Just purchased my first shotgun recently. I've always been pro gun but never got around to owning one. With the possible financial collapse on the horizon, I want to be prepared to defend myself.
With millions of "undocumented migrants" pouring into this country, it's never a bad idea to be armed and prepared.

I have been working in and around the gun business for most of my adult life. When it comes to shotguns, I would really recommend that you stay away from most all of the Box magazine fed guns. Many of them have reliability issues, some of them have poorly designed magazines that while they may work, are not very durable. Spare mags can be pricey and hard to find. Additionally, when you start to get into high-capacity, the gun gets very heavy and unwieldy. I am old school. A Remington 870 with an extended mag tube in 12 Ga. with a riot barrel, some good rifle or ghost ring sights, (or at our age a Red Dot) would be a great place to start. Get it equipped with a side saddle to keep extra ammo ready to slide into the mag tube, then get yourself a shotshell bandolier that you can keep loaded with slugs and buckshot as you deem necessary. Hang the bandolier with the shotgun together in the safe so that they can both be grabbed immediately when needed. My next choice in a shotgun would be a Mossberg 590, and the truth of the matter is I would be happy with either one. My third choice would be a semi-auto like a Benelli. In the long term, parts availability will be far better with the two pump guns.As to the rifle, you can't go wrong with the Daniel Defense DDM4 series. If you don't want to spend that much, a Ruger or Smith and Wesson are very good for the money. For folks on a tight budget, the Palmetto State Armory rifles provide a lot of gun for not much money. While I'm a big fan of the 300 blk for suppressed and home defense applications, the wide availability of 5.56 would make it my hands down first choice. I'm a revolver man, first and formost for hunting, recreation, and target shooting, but when it comes to defense, I always have an autoloader (Glock) on. 9mm, 40, or .45 all work with modern defensive ammo. I recommend 9mm due to ammo availability. Get yourself a good holster that works for you. You'll likely end up buying several until you find one that works for you. As someone who has carried a handgun most every day for a good part of forty years, I tell you that I love leather but have found that a good polymer rig will last much longer.

Drum fed shotguns have massive failure to feed issues which can be fixed by a good gunsmith but it takes a lot of trial and error range time. 5.56 in my opinion is they way to go with a thermal scope. ammo is plentiful and fairly cheap.

Colorado is following California and Washington state as we speak. They have a bill calling for an assault weapons ban that's rolling through the legislature right now, if passed into law will ban about 80% of the firearms on the market, including some pistols. Other bills include weapons in sensitive areas, gun storage in your vehicle, an excessive tax on ammunition (10% hike), modifying existing red-flag laws, and more. Time to stock up. Everything you said is true, but I doubt the United States will end up "Exterminating people" of gun control. Hell would break loose if that happened. If you want an AR-15, I just heard yesterday the ammo for it is changing from a 5.56 (.223) to the new and improved round 6.8 x 43. You might invest in the latest round to stay updated, but the 5.56 (.223) will probably still exist for several years according to my source. There are a lot of AR's out there with this round so I couldn't imagine it won't be available for years to come. The AR is really fun to shoot. Make sure you get one that's a chrome barrel. I love my Rock River, but there are other brands out there. What's really nice about the AR platform is you can build one from the ground up to your liking. I also have one I built for around $700. You got the cash get a Barrett, Knight Armaments', HK, Colt, Smith & Wesson, CMMG, BCM the list goes on! If you want a battle rifle it matters more about what the parts are made of such as; a hammer forged chromoly steel barrel that is chrome lined will withstand more heat, Direct Impingement seems to be more reliable than the piston guns (not sure of the exact name for them). The Smith & Wesson will be the cheaper option and the only foreign manufacturer I named was HK!

What caliber is your Remington 760 pump? just curious Ive been trying to collect all the calibers they made in those.
1). Take a training class ($600course + $300 ammo +$100 hotel)= time and money well spent as YOU will have the answers to what you need after this course (I'm biased to Tactical Response fighting rifle but find reviews first and see where that instructor went to further their own knowledge.)
2). Drum mag or box mag shotguns will jam 100% after a few weeks with a loaded magazine. Cylinders (shotgun shell) are strongest in compression (like in a magazine tube) but very week from side load. In a box or drum magazine stacked with side pressure they will turn to ovals, and no longer feed into the chamber. Beretta 1301 (semi) or Mossberg 500 (pump) (they make a 8 shell version) are go to designs.
3). S&W M&P15 with free float mlok 12" rail, light weight barrel is a good baseline. Just to have around and fire a few times a year Palmetto State Armory is fine (get nitride light weight barrel at least), but going the extra mile a Daniel Defense or BCM option will outlast you.
PSA: Palmetto State Armory, all the ar you will ever need. Get 2 for the price of some of the others.
I have a few nicer ones but also have a dozen PSA builds that I can hand out to friends and neighbors.

Stan, this is the BEST video you have EVER done! I'd vote for a mini 14. It's a .223 but it's a ranch gun, less agressive looking. In fact I like the wood stock, very cool gun. There's a 9mm carbine that's very cool too, shorter in length. I'm with ya. Revolvers are a MUST have for reliability. This country is in trouble, BAD! God Help us!

I was just at Stock & Barrel Gun Club over in Eagan a few days ago. I recommend talking to some of the guys there about what you want the AR for / what you want it to do. Very knowledgeable group of guys and they have a huge selection of handguns and long guns to rent for only $20 each. Good way to try before you buy.

If I was in the market for an AR I would purchase a Daniel Defense. Yes they are expensive, but extremely reliable. My cuz has an AR platform shotgun. He turkey hunts with it lol. It's neat but limited in that it's still a shotty.

Most of the statistics you stated, I was pretty much aware of, but I was little surprised to hear about such an increase in crime in Australia. I suppose I shouldn't have been, but I expect similar results in the UK and European countries as well. The biggest problem we face in the U.S. is the three letter agencies picking us off one person at a time, like those cowards at the ATF have been doing.

Stanley you nailed it, as far as an AR15 there are many good ones you can choose from Colt to Daniel defense. I would recommend 5.56 for the shear availability of ammo, which there is a wide variety of. Get yourself a BAD Lever for it, a Primary Arms scope with ACSS reticule (great scope without breaking the bank) which will allow quick enough close range tactics as well as a long enough range to reach out. That’s a lot of bolt and pump actions, not a whole lot of semi autos… might need to add a few glocks and AR/AK rifles to that collection. Knights, LMT, Daniel defense, BCM, geissele. All of those make good equipment.
We need to make sure that if they do take our gun rights away you just keep your mouth shut about what you do have at your house and if you do have it at your house you don't keep it at your house for very long and if you do have any ammo you keep that someplace else but that you can still get to it and I would go and buy as much ammo as I could as much Hammer as I could before they make it so that they start keeping track of that like they do in Colorado here
