Stan Don't blame you one bit on giving up smaller gas station, convenience stores, etc. Too much effort & time involved having to put up with the inconsiderate public that can't seem to be understandable of caution vehicles !! Many years ago I worked in northern Maryland on interstate 95. We we doing tandum "V" plowing lead truck center lane, two trucks directly behind pushing slow lane & fast lane & last two trucks pushing right & left shoulders). I was in truck pushing fast lane shoulder & had a Greyhound bus less than 3 ft behind me trying to get past us. Our snow policy was to "NEVER" allow traffic to pass or squeeze between us while plowing. Bus driver finally got fustrated since I wouldn't let him through & passed me on my left side not knowing my left side was dirt with grass in the medium & not a hardtop shoulder. Needless to say bus took a trip down a steep embakment, rolled over on its side (luckily no severe injuries). Karma bit the bus driver big time & I was told I did exactually what I was supposed to do & did not get any repercussions from State Police of my station Manager !!!
The snow plowing videos are what brought me to this channel, now I stick around for all the rest! But it has been nice to see some plowing videos recently, who knew that Mother Nature would wait until April to have Stan get the plows out!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Didn’t see much snow removal this year. I live in Central New York, Syracuse, Utica, Rome area. Usually snow central, this year the grass got covered for a few days but never lost its green. Exceptionally mild. Great to see your crew getting some work as light as this winter was. Actually needing to relocate snow piles was probably the last thing I expected to see this winter. Wishing you, your crew, and families the best.
We were slow in Edmonton..about half as busy....we used to do gas stations until... The operator was scraping hard packed snow on the pump islands...backed up a couple of feet and rear-ended a car that was tail-gating him ...suing for a cool million...barely a scratch..no injuries....suing for PTSD!!!!!
Greetings from Chandler, AZ (Phoenix). Our winter was a bit colder, cloudier, windier and wetter than normal. Yes, near paradise for many from the Midwest or Canada, but my least favorite of the 20+ that I've experienced here.
Great video... Here in the Lakes Region NH, i got 77 inches per my CST snow report i pay for to strack storms, and have proof of the snow amoand charges for plowing. Looking to get into Brine Application next season and starting the planning and budgeting.
Stan I'm posting my second comment to this video. I too no longer deal with crappy customers. I've told many over the years that I have so many good people to work for that I do not need to work for butt heads. After a terrible snow year here also/ worst one in 25 years it was so heartwarming how many of my customers sent me advances or asked me if I needed advances for future work. Some gave me or my employees gift cards, some even sent cash, which I passed on to my guys as they are just as reliant on some OT as I am on them working OT.
I'm in Northeast CT. Our first snow was January and we got 5 good storms and it was a promising start. Then we got an 8 inch storm in February and that was it. I cleaned and greased the sander and plow the first week of March and put them away to try and tempt Mother Nature, but we never got any more storms the rest of winter.
@@Dirtmonkey 20 years ago you could rely on plowing for winter income. Now a good winter is like hitting the lottery. Northern New England had it the worst because is was a warm and low snow winter and the hotels and restaurants that cater to snowmobilers took a bath this year. When I would go up to Northern New Hampshire hotels that normally would have a parking lot full of sleds were empty.
Hi Stanley, my name is Tim and I am in central Michigan mount pleasant area15 miles north west of there, our winters the last few years have been not much snow at all like in the old days, my plow vehicle is a 1976 Jeep cj5 no lights blinkers or nothing just use it around the neighborhood.
Good morning, Stan. Thanks for another fun video! It makes me miss my old paving job, where this would be our winter work. We had a great crew. Have a great day. God bless.
Great video Stan. I"m an hour and 15 minutes SE of you along the river. 25 years in the business for me running 5 guys including myself and this was my worst year by far. We Plowed 1 time that we did everything and 1 time we did most everything. Another half dozen or so that we did our sidewalk runs and some commercial lots (We do alot of miles of commercial and residential walks. Almost zero salt and or sanding. I have some contracts but most are by the time. Revenues were down 70% over a normal year. Sad part is that we didn't get near the snow last year that the Twin Cities had. 60 inches was our total for 2022-2023. As hard as I have tried to get customers on contracts it seems my competition fights it. You make inroads after a snowy season, but then a year like this and theirs no way to talk someone into a contract. Still a few guys doing stuff for nothing in my area, got 1 long timer still doing driveways for 8 bucks fortunately he only gets about 2 an hour done, but they are starting to drop by the wayside, as 60 grand for a truck and plow is alot of money to get started. Keep them videos coming.
I once had guy park in a parking lot my family owns and is marked as private property so built a snow bunker around him he was not able to his car he left in December out until June no other companies would dig him outback and police told him he was trespassing so he is liable for all damages and is also trespassing if he try’s to dig himself out
I live outside of St Louis and we had only one good snow about 4" but the next day it was in the 50 degrees and melted pretty fast. We had a very below normal snow fall.
Proper snow, something you see very rarely here in the UK now. The last time I saw snow like that here was in the beginning on 2018. If it snowed properly like this every year there would be a lot more work for landscaping businesses through the colder months. As for people intentionally sneaking up behind you in the hopes of causing an accident, do they not find themselves in trouble with the law for doing that?
Here in Idaho as long as the plow has a rotating yellow beacon light on top of the cab or truck roof State law the Plow has the right of way at all times. The State plow trucks will literally shove vehicles off the road or shoulder without slowing down! And here at least the scam drivers try and pull is the old "my car is stuck can you just pull or push me out ..... please". I'm sure Stan you and crew have learned but you newbies take my word, Just Don't Do It!!! Even if she's pretty .... tell them to call a towing outfit as you are just the plow guy.
Well Stan, now that Minnesota just declared that the inside of a car is PUBLIC SPACE, just get in and move the car for him. Yeah, can you believe MN pulled that stupid crap? I'm not suprised. That state has gone to Hell. I hate seeing good people like you stuck in a place like that. But I understand that your business, family ... everything is their. So yeah anyway, dont put anything inside your vehicles.
I bet you don’t have to haul snow out like this much anymore. It’s only going to get worse. I remember here in Pennsylvania when we would get 4 to 6 inches a week now the last 4 years we gotten 10 to 15 inches for the whole winter. Most of the storms melt before you can even get out to plow it. Just not much money to make where I’m located anymore.
@@thearmy88ify exactly. What we have now is the what we are going to get and it’s only going to get warmer. I remember big snow piles in big parking lots every winter. Been years since I see any piles anymore. It’s been a good 10 years since we’ve gotten good snow.

Why do you put snow in the dumpsters? Is because it's part of the contract with the customer? My neighbor had pretty much no work for his trucks to snowplow. Now, he's mowing lawns. It's been 70s and rest of time, it's going to be 50s-60s.
1) Because they are much easier to load than full size (tall) dump trucks, when using a skid loader. 2) It keeps the dumpster guys busy. 3) A lot of dump truck guys (owner operators) park their trucks for the winter and have no desire to haul snow on the salty, shitty roads. I'm sure there are other reason, but these are the main reasons why WE used dumpster truck to haul snow. To each his own...
