- What would happen if you took a popular modern musical element, the loop, and combined it with something unexpected, like a classical string instrument? Gustavo Strauß has taken up this challenge and conducted his own musical experiment. Inspired by his friends, he combines simple and complex melodies and brings us a wonderful string performance.
Gustavo Strauß is a German-Peruvian violinist and composer, with a background in music theory, musical education, improvisation and jazz composition. His performance areas range from classical to jazz to world music, fueling his passion for breaking barriers between musical styles. Gustavo regularly tours the globe with his projects as well as other ensembles, bands and orchestras. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
I think whoever wrote the caption is kind of missing the point. The unique contrast isn't so much the classical instrument and the loop, I would argue its more about the contrast between the 15/8 odd meter and the diatonic pop-like progression and melody
Thank you for posting this video. I watched one of Gustavo's shorts and this came up recommended. I started playing violin again and wanted to learn more about looping with a violin.
Thank you so much!! This was fun 🙏😊
bravo Gustavo
Joyfully 😊 You're amazing 😊♥️

I thought that this was Gustavo and I was glad to see that it was. What a talented artist. I play the violin for 39 years and his work is fantastic!
Alexandros Pirillis wow thank you!! :))
Gustavo Strauss my pleasure! I am also an engineer and don’t have enough time to practice. I wish I could do what you do so skillfully :) Stay safe during these crazy times!
Alexandros Pirillis thx man- you too!!:)
Gustavo Strauss will do :) thanks Bud!!
Gustavo Strauss hey how are you holding up so far? We’ve been lucky so far with my family here in Chicago. If you ever get to Chicago we should jam :)
I watch this one a lot too. What can I say, you are so good and I really love to see you play. 🥰
Simply extraordinary 👏👏👏👏
Fantastic
Gustavo, are you doing ok? Terrible about the flooding. Hope you are well.
Good job and music. When Gustavo put up the instrument. I think-Ok, what next? Play by foot?-)) Ah, ok its just a cable.

Wow....
Hi! I have a simple looping box. I have viola tuning on one instrument and use a sub octave box, wanting to get the effect a cello sound. However, when I try to loop on it, the sound is not good. What do you use? I was in the Florida Orchestra for twenty something years. And The Florida String Quartet. Now I am desiring to do something like you have ( which you did really well and the sound was awesome) Would you have any suggestions for me, s far as what equipment I should use ( for both instruments. ) I would love to look a keyboard on too. Maybe my equipment is sub par?
This a great performance and lesson. What type of looper setup do you use? I am a classical musician venturing into electronic setup and would like to learn more. Bravo on the composition!
that there's a boss rc 300
LEGIT
Just gone electric thanks for the inspiration ..
What kind of equipment are you using?
A Boss Looper thing
Hi weiß zufällig jemand was für einen Tonabnehmer er benutzt?
unfortunately looped music is very harmonically repetitive
Yet it provides a way for people to play other parts when they want harmony and accompaniment but don't have it available. Personally, I like the sound it produces and plan to get one for myself when I can. I play violin (at home; not in a group anymore), and it's very therapeutic: especially on bad days. I look forward to when I can use this technology to add some variety and harmony.
Seems a little off.
Probably seems that way bc the meter is uneven, its 15/8. Most songs are in 4/4.
@@rainyday6430 Exactly what I was going to say. 🙂
Wow
