He died of a traumatic head injury and his wife reported that his last words before dying were: "This didn't happen to me. This happened *for* me." This is probably the most useful Tedx talk I have ever seen. No pun intended but this guy does not present with the massive ego of the typical TED X host. I agree with his line of thinking about life and I would just add one thing I have picked up over the years. Treat every experience you have with another human being as a learning experience. So many people go through life thinking they don't need to learn from others that they deem to be in a "lower station" in life. The doctor often thinks that the patient can't teach him and the social worker thinks the client doesn't possess any nuggets of wisdom. In regards to that line of thinking, I would like you all to think of the old adage "even a broken clock is right two times each day". When we stop thinking of ourselves so much we really start to see so much more beauty in the world.
Skankwave Thanks-- but I wish you to remember the broken clock adage. Give me 5 minutes and I am sure I will say something ignorant. I know that as a parent I have learned a lot from my kids. Yourtube User My doctorate was in clinical hypnosis from American Pacific University. Took me 8 years to complete. Sadly that institution was mismanaged and closed its doors a few years ago.
I am grateful that we live in times of RUclips with TEDx videos available to be able to listen to such amazing content coming from deep in the heart of such winners. Its a privilege that our forefathers never had.
I always think that's God's love coming through. Like, we're all capable of good and bad... But if we focus and learn to recognize the face of God, we can let him through.
L1: Never believe any prediction about yourself that doesn't empower you. L2: You are not your condition. Your freedom happens when you adapt, when you realize that others only want to be loved. L3: Bullying yourself is the most dangerous thing you can do. Instead of staying stuck in your chattering mind, work on and from your heart and master your emotions toward loving others.
"Deep down inside every human being just wants to be loved. Even if they're tough. Even if they're scary. Even if they're vicious. You get them into the right position at the right time, they'll tell you the truth. They just want to be loved. You know who they want the love from the most? They want to be able to look in the mirror and love themselves." This hit me very hard.
I was in a special ed program. In my senior of highschool, I was told by the career counselor that I was not smart enough to go to college. It took me 10 years, but I graduated with a bachelor's in political science. Seeing this guy tells me that there are other people that are worse off, but he has done well because of his awesome attitude about overcoming his disability. He is an inspiration.
ANY BODY WHO VOTES THUMBS DOWNS IS A PIN HEADED IDIOT AND THERE MISSING THE POINT OF WHAT THE SPEAKER IS TRYING TO SAY NEGATIVE ATTITUDE IS THE BARS THAT HOLDS THEM IN THERE PRISON AND I ADMIRE THE HECK OUT OF ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO CAN RISE ABOVE THERE PREDICKERMENT I CAN SOUNDS BETTER THEN I CAN'T
Never seen someone dish out such useful wisdom like this man in such a short time. Truly uplifting and inspiring. Gone but not forgotten. RIP Sean. There is a good reason why you existed and continue to do so through us.
One heck of a great MAN! He delivered some priceless knowledge in that speech. I feel extremely fortunate to have heard his message. I've been a physical prisoner before. Confined behind bars and walls. That was pretty awful but what was worse was the prison I remained in after my release. It has taken some time for me to escape the negative self image and to stop beating myself up. I'm determined to be better at being me each day and to try to love my fellow man unconditionally. Each day is a gift and a choice.
The world is built on contrast my friend and there is, undoubtedly, an opposite to everything so we should expect that there will be haters of this video and we know why.. those who do not reflect, outwardly project .. meaning they are not happy with themselves and it is way too hard to rise up so they rather pull people down to their gutter. Equally parts sad and liberating to know this dynamic of the human mind.
Yeah every time I see a homeless in the heat or just doing really bad I don’t look at them like they’re any less I just put myself in their shoes and think that if I were them I’d appreciate some sort of help...now some are grateful and some are just pretty low
To everyone who is experiencing a difficult situation: To shoot an arrow you have to pull it backwards. So when life drags you back with some troubles, it means it's going to launch into something better.
At my age, I can clearly see that all of the "tragedies" in my life have turned out to be blessings, the bigger the tragedies the bigger the blessings. There was no way for me to have seen this at the time, but I can see it clearly looking back. Listening to this amazing person talk, I can see that his blessings are in proportion to his challenges. He is a living Zen master. A teacher. Thank you for this amazing vid.
The moment Sean explained that he had a purpose- to rid the world of insecurity- I started crying and laughing, and couldn't stop for two minutes. this was so good, brought me to tears. You can feel his passion for life. I wish others would see this truth, that bullying others, or being violent, is just a cry for help, and a desire to be loved. The most volatile man can break down crying when he has the right place and mindset to do it. And not a cry of pity, but of revelation. I did not realize he was speaking to prisoners until the very end!
Anyone else notice that starting around 9:35 Sean puts his hand over his heart and kinda massages it? I really like that - showing that his focus stays on the heart energy rather than the mind.

I love the fact that he didn't dwell after finishing talking, to feel pleased seeing people clapping for him. truly genuine speech
Hi
@@dharmendrainsuranceguru .... Low
yeah I also noticed that. He was actually what he was saying, he is free from that prison.
One of the best TEDx talks yet.
Yess
This speech is short, but to be honest, every sentence is pure gold. His speech is full of love and hope.
he just spoke so much truth
yes
Definitely
+Yourtube User According to Wikipedia he is a Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy. I think he was being facetious though.
Yourtube User My doctorate was in clinical hypnosis from American Pacific University. Took me 8 years to complete. Sadly that institution was mismanaged and closed its doors a few years ago.
Being a guy on a wheelchair, I completely understand what he says and I feel my attitude elevated after watching this
I am grateful that we live in times of RUclips with TEDx videos available to be able to listen to such amazing content coming from deep in the heart of such winners. Its a privilege that our forefathers never had.
❤️❤️❤️
I always think that's God's love coming through. Like, we're all capable of good and bad... But if we focus and learn to recognize the face of God, we can let him through.
you're more than "a guy on a wheelchair" tho, that's the point of it all :)
He will be DEARLY missed but NEVER forgotten!
One of the best Ted Talks I've ever listened to.
L1: Never believe any prediction about yourself that doesn't empower you.
L2: You are not your condition. Your freedom happens when you adapt, when you realize that others only want to be loved.
L3: Bullying yourself is the most dangerous thing you can do. Instead of staying stuck in your chattering mind, work on and from your heart and master your emotions toward loving others.
thanks for summary bro, thank you
That is a really useful post, thanks 😊👍🏼

"Deep down inside every human being just wants to be loved. Even if they're tough. Even if they're scary. Even if they're vicious. You get them into the right position at the right time, they'll tell you the truth. They just want to be loved. You know who they want the love from the most? They want to be able to look in the mirror and love themselves."
This hit me very hard.
PianoMastR64
It wasn't until I read your comment, that I cried for the loss of him. But he never was and never will be lost.
Blessings to you.
"They want to be able to look in the mirror & love themselves." I felt that. 😖😞😢 RIP.
He is an inspiration.
proud of you.

Godspeed brother. You will be missed.
Never seen someone dish out such useful wisdom like this man in such a short time. Truly uplifting and inspiring. Gone but not forgotten. RIP Sean. There is a good reason why you existed and continue to do so through us.
True that 🙌🙌🙌
One heck of a great MAN!
I had the honor to meet Sean twice. Incredible human being. Who in the heck would put a thumbs down??
Just bots, that’s what I tell myself…
The world is built on contrast my friend and there is, undoubtedly, an opposite to everything so we should expect that there will be haters of this video and we know why.. those who do not reflect, outwardly project .. meaning they are not happy with themselves and it is way too hard to rise up so they rather pull people down to their gutter. Equally parts sad and liberating to know this dynamic of the human mind.
Strange world we live in. Some feed in hate and fear. Because thats all they know
The people that need his message most.
just wondering exactly the same...shame on them!!!
Remember that pity is condescending, but empathy and compassion are simply expressions of love.
Yeah every time I see a homeless in the heat or just doing really bad I don’t look at them like they’re any less I just put myself in their shoes and think that if I were them I’d appreciate some sort of help...now some are grateful and some are just pretty low
You’re amazing man. Rest In Peace
Excuse me please, has he died?
AmsG AMSG, he passed on the 28th of August in 2019

You are so right but do we have the patience to see where it's taking us to
Good to know this 💗
At my age, I can clearly see that all of the "tragedies" in my life have turned out to be blessings, the bigger the tragedies the bigger the blessings. There was no way for me to have seen this at the time, but I can see it clearly looking back. Listening to this amazing person talk, I can see that his blessings are in proportion to his challenges. He is a living Zen master. A teacher. Thank you for this amazing vid.
Made me tear up and cry. Amazingly beautiful human being. We need way more people like him.
The moment Sean explained that he had a purpose- to rid the world of insecurity- I started crying and laughing, and couldn't stop for two minutes. Every little insecurity I've ever had, at that moment, pointed in exactly the opposite direction. These are words I've needed to hear for a while, and now I know in clearer definition who I am and what my purpose is.
Thank you, Sean Stephenson.
Sean is one of my absolute favorite speakers. You won't believe the place where he gave this (amazing) speech.
Where please?

This should be shown in every school in the nation. Empowerment not victimhood is the best way forward in life.
Hello
Instead they teach CRT which teaches kids to be victims and all the hate that overthrows a civilization
@@tippytalk im in highschool rn yet i cant remember being taught critical race theory or to play the victim. hmmm sounds like someone doesnt know what theyre talking about. it is the fault of the media, not the school system.
@@fatusopp4739 Not to burst your bubble, but just because you have not been CRT, and you say that you were not taught to play victim, does not mean that it is not done in other high schools. I am really glad you are not part of the brainwashing factory.
Not just in the nation
I just came upon this video for the second time after a long time and it moved me beyond words again. I am sad to learn that he passed, and I imagine him free and happy back to his Creator in the great Universe, where I want to believe that someday I will have the joy to meet him. His words are very inspiring. I have no words to express the emotions he inspires me. What a beautiful human being. He was a big man, rest in peace, your words will stay with me, each time I will feel the need, I will think of your advices and reflect upon them. Thank you from the bottom of my heart 💚🧡💜💛💙🧡🤍🖤
I hope this becomes one of the most viewed TED talks. RIP man, you were an inspiration.
I know one of the main messages here was not to feel sorry for or pity others but I definitely think an exclusion applies to those who gave this a thumbs down!
+chris mcaulay Or we can embrace them. Get to know why they did it. Maybe they were too bored, maybe they didn't watch to the end, maybe they feel extremely sorry about themselves and even this positive message couldn't get throught them. But I believe in another time, in another way, they can learn what is being teached here (:
+Luiz G true luiz, true! :-)
+chris mcaulay It’s cheesy as hell. Thumbs down.

@@beautifulrose8619 They are still in the prison of their mind.
No wonder you lost to the Taliban. I don't think they cry watching midget videos on YT.
this was so good, brought me to tears.
Mastering yourself makes you fearless. Thank you Sean! I was so happy to hear you speak.
That's very true. Loving yourself and being able to free yourself from the prison that is your mind, is true freedom. That was powerful.
Sean was and will always remain an inspirational man who improved our world - so sad that he no longer is with us to educate us and remind ourselves of our own worth and potential, but with these talks available for all to watch years later, his wisdom is immortal.
“Even the smallest person can change the course of the future”...and inspire so many! What an amazingly powerful soul. Rest In peace. Sharing this lesson in strength today. 🙏🏼✨
