    OK let me begin by saying this video has a purpose and I'm going to explain it to you, but first I need to clarify some things. A few years ago I was a lazy teenager who spent his time; lying on the lounge, playing video games, either eating junk or not eating at all, I had a number of extremely embarrassing medical conditions and no social life outside the few friends I occasionally talked to in real life. If any of this sounds familiar then let me start of by telling you that there are thousands, even millions of people who are in the same situation, however not all of them are in the same mindset as you. Many people continue their lives sitting on their ass, doing nothing, not enjoying life and are using video games, movies books etc to either hide their insecurities or just escape from reality. Now don't get me wrong, you are clearly an intelligent person if you are looking at videos like this, there is clearly something inside you that wants to succeed or "Break free". Now for all of you who are complaining about the videos impact on you, your social anxiety or the lack of purpose isn't the reason it didn't work. The real reason is fear. Now this could mean you are afraid of a few things: Failure, People not liking you, Dying alone, Being unhappy, Not earning enough money and many others. However the thing is all these fears have been brought on by one person in the past (No not the same person for all of them), these thoughts all began as one person saying them as a fact and everyone else believing him (or her).
    They are all universal fears promoted by society and social media and are forced upon us at a young age, we are practically conditioned to fail. Some people like you and me however have the ability to break free of this conditioning, you are probably wondering how I know this and I'll quickly explain how: By forcing yourself through this paragraph it shows you are determined to find a way out of your current life and find your purpose, something that most people don't have the mental strength to do. Anyway back to the wall of text. Let me tell you a story about my good friend, for confidentiality sake he will be referred to as L. Now L was in a similar state to me, no confidence, little to no friends, unhappy with his appearance, thought no one will ever date him, heck he only had his first kiss this year. Now his biggest issue was he wasn't confident in himself, he was afraid to show what he was passionate about because he didn't want people judging him for it. One day I was at his house when he asked me "Hey J, how do you talk to people you've never met before like that, how are you so confident?" and that's when it clicked in him, that's when he began asking questions, he wanted to find happiness, so I helped him find it, some peoples passion is music or art, his was helping others, so I asked him.
    "What makes you happy?"
    As I expected he replied with helping others, I then asked him:
    "Where do you feel in control the most?"
    He replied with the same answer. I proceeded to ask him a line of questions such as:
    "Where are you most comfortable?"
    and
    "What is success to you?"
    he replied with a similar answer each time. I told him to picture himself helping someone each time he approaches them he said it sounded hard and that he was afraid something bad might happen, I then told him to tell me his life purpose, he immediately was confused as you probably are after watching this video, I repeated the question once again, He responded with "I don't know, to be successful I guess?" I said so whats your life goal? He told me to be rich, i asked him why, he said because its what makes you happy. He didn't realize that he knew his purpose due to the fact that he was conditioned to be successful by everyone else standard, anyway he now has a beautiful girlfriend and is living in a small home living with his cat, to most this doesn't sound like much but to him, life is perfect, he is happy and free he was able to break free of this ,conditioning, Now, YOU need to be able to find what is holding you back, find the thing that is stopping you from finding happiness NOONE ELSE CAN DO THIS FOR YOU. Usually its the fear of being judged, The thing we fear being judged about the most is the thing that will make us the happiest. However to defeat this fear we must first find the thing we are most afraid of, being judged about the thing that will make us happy. And that is the purpose of this video: To find that thing. The thing that you are best at, the thing that will truly make you happy is the thing you are most afraid of publicly talking about, that one thing that you know you are great at deep down but are too afraid to follow it. The reason this video didn't work is because you already know your purpose, you know how to make yourself happy, you know your purpose, you just need to get out there and chase it and don't quit until you've caught it. If you made it this far you should pat yourself on the back, you persevered when most people wouldn't have even clicked "read more". You are one of the very few who are willing to do what it takes to be happy, to succeed. I wan't you to do a small task, it will take less time than it does to finish a standard netflix episode: Once every day I want you to either write down, or speak out loud the sentence: My name is _______ and my purpose is _________. After that if you wan't you can practice the skills required to achieve this purpose. Thank you for reading, good luck in all your future endeavors, I personally believe in you and you should too.
    TLDR: If you skipped to the bottom for an easy way out, then you should either A. Read this paragraph or B. Miss out on information less than 2% of the population are willing to understand.

    As someone who has spent countless hours, days, weeks, months, years obsessing over this topic I can tell you all that our purpose in life is to live it to the fullest. Don't spend so much time looking for a purpose, just enjoy the small things. Follow what you enjoy and what is meaningful to you but you don't need to think so deeply about it, if you don't overthink things you'll naturally be led to things that make you happy. Don't put your life on hold while searching. I also think many people who are very successful in life are unhappy because their lives lack balance. Balance is extremely important in life.

      @@MGLetItBe it's taken me a long time to figure this out. But yes I think for most people there will not be this big aha moment were they discover their life's purpose. I believe for most people it's much more subtle than that.
      I often find myself reflecting on past memories. I always looked forward to the future when I would graduate and finally do something with my life that I thought I wanted to do, not what I had to do. Now I regret not appreciating the journey here. Life's short and my career isn't quite what I thought it was going to be, but I am trying to live in the moment more and I find it makes life that much more fulfilling.

Maybe it's the small things that matter, a word of encouragement, a smile. Simple things that can bring a ray of light into someone's life that make a difference, which you didn't even realise was significant, but may just have been what that person needed right then.

      well it kinda referred to what you really love to do, or what you feel like you are so good at that you can actually teach it to someone. I am not sure if you really love bartending , but if you do there has to be another type of reason like to help people taste a lovely alcohol mix if it is about cocktails (not likely, but still) or you just want to help them forget their problems in drowning themselves in alcohol (which is not your problem). I don't know, I think it is all about perspective ... try another working place or figure out if this is what you really, really deep down want to do and ask yourself why.
      Anyway, I could not find the so called "life purpose" based on these 5 questions 'cause I am still stuck at question no. 2, I am not sure I can teach anyone anything really, and I have no idea what do I really love doing because I love so many things and I cannot really pick one because I feel like there must be something else out there , more interesting to love than whatever I currently like doing because what I like feels lame. :))

No one, absolutely no one, can force you to do something your don't want to. Take responsibility for your choices. If you have decided to make yourself a "victim" you will feel like one. Victory come from years of dedication and repetition. Dedication for excellence and repetition for perfection. If you do the same thing every time, then do it with more perfection, take a constant feedback for every guest if they like it that way it is made, is there some you could add or subtract to make it taste even more fabulous. @Ivana Mielniczuk It's the same thing I'm saying. Basically, if we're able to sincerely answer to the first question "Who are you?", the other questions don't matter... If we have a good understanding of who we are and accept, love and respect ourselves no matter our flaws, we will do something we love. And if we do something we love, it is most likely gonna benefit others as well. The thing is, the first question is the hardest to answer for many of us... That's the first step. Then we actually have to love ourselves... Which can be a challenge in itself.

Bathe yourself in information and don't stick with just one thing because someone told you that it's all you'll ever be good at and has to be your life purpose. Sure that one thing can lead to growth and talent, but do it because you actually want to do it.

    When I started watching this video I knew nothing about my life purpose, when I was done watching the whole video I still knew nothing about my life purpose.
    Update: 1 year later and I've decided there really is no purpose to life. It's incredibly interesting to speculate on how humans came to be as I feel knowing the answer to that question would also explain our purpose (or lack thereof) but until I find the answer to that question I will hold onto my opinion about life having no purpose.
    I've also realized not having a purpose is not inherently depressing. In the same situation some people can be happy and some extremely sad. Which makes depression extremely scary because it shows that you do not need a tangible reason to be depressed and if something has no cause it has no clear solution either.
    I have found a good way to move on with life in the meantime. Have a fun activity that you can do daily, for example playing csgo or whatever you genuinely enjoy doing (with friends if possible). On top of that have one super fun and hard to achieve goal for example starting a tech company. This will keep you occupied from the everlasting string of questions and you will probably lead an interesting life, the scale of which depends entirely on you. Also stop caring about what anyone thinks of you, it will give your life a huge happiness boost instantaneously.

    1. Find your purpose and take action on it.

      I agree Angie. Fine, he had 5 suggestions to help you decide what you want to do to fulfil your life's purpose but then he went on to ask the audience their answers, assuming they were all doing what they were supposed to be doing in life. It sounded like only a handful of people were answering him so maybe they were the only ones who were doing what they wanted to. The others, like myself, hadn't a clue and are none the wiser after it. I'm disappointed.

    knowing you have come into the world and made someone's life better, or you made a animal's life better by just a tiny bit means your life was purposeful.

      Citlali I'm ten years older than you. I only now understand happiness. and purpose. When i was 19 I dropped out of college feeling disenfranchised, I joined the military. Never did i think i would do that in a million years.Now I live in LA and I make music and work on movies. Most lives go totally way out of the way of what you wanted or expected. The truth is...brace yourself...people in the west WANT TOO MUCH. We are taught and indoctrinated to be unhappy with everything that's not perfect. Nothing...not the job you thought you wanted or the partner you thought you'd have...will make you happy or feel complete. we are always changing and things are always changing around us.The trick is to learn to enjoy the journey and ride the waves. There's an attitude we can take in life and it may take some time to understand but it's either anxiety or adventure. if we see the ups and downs as a part of our life and learn to see it as an adventure, life is so much more enjoyable. I have a lot if friends who went through identity crises and worries about work and relationships. the ones who learned to see what was around them and always make the best of it found themselves more satisfied. People often are not happy because they don't want life to be as challenging as it truly is. Focus on being around good and genuine people, see life as an adventure, and you as the hero. At nineteen you're just starting out. there will be so many changes and revisions. Just don't let that process get to you. You'll do fine. :) Hope I helped.

      That element of doing good for others is fine, but the claim that this is more about other people than you is false. I believe in enlightened self-interest and that doing good for others rewards ME with the pleasure of that fulfilling experience. There's no real division between doing good for others and doing good for yourself, since selfish actions are inherently defeating over time.

    My interpretation:
    Your life purpose is constructed on your contribution to the world. You do not neccesarily have one at the moment, for example, if you're still a high school student. It also may or may not be what you want, especially when your contribution is not significant. So then you want to do something different. How?
    If you just say "I enjoy drawing", it means nothing. This thought doesn't help you picture your future. In the end, do you want to give children awesome dreams? Do you want to make people rethink on life and reach their "Eureka" moment? This is what you truly are. Your career as an "illustrator" is just a way to achieve this, rather than itself being the main focus.
    That's also why you may hesitate to draw for advertising companies, because then you are expressing other people's ideas rather than your own.

      True. I am an artist and designer and loath the idea of working for a company. Giving them my ideas so they can make money. Forget that. But you make a good point; this exercise isn't about what one likes to do, this is about how what makes one happy can be meaningful. I think most of us want to feel meaningful to others, which in turn gives our lives meaning. Get my meaning?

      This is very moving, the things that make you up are not you, you are unique compared to others, you are that 1are that slim chance of the millions of egg cells in moms womb. The very fiber of your very existence is what you are. The only thing that makes you complete, is you. Its not your compassion that makes you want to do what you want to do. Its you. The only one thing that is true to you, is you. God and Jesus don't forcefully make you do certain things. Its you. Your vey heart and soul is what ignites you to do your very best. Emotions are a big part of this factor. But focus on happiness, joy, and all above that.Its ok to get mad, sad, or angry it just helps us get a better concept of what we do, who we are, and what we are. You are your own truth. Making mistakes never hurts anyone, we learn from those mistakes. If you say I love this, I love tthat , don't listen to yourself. God, Jesus,and the angels are here to help us guide ourselves through life until are time is up. But God is still within us. He believes in all of us. So, if someone says "God hates, Jesus hates you, you are a part of the Devil", don't listen to them. There is only one thing we can fully understand in this universe or possibly multiverse, and that is ourselves. Thank you for reading this.

    This comment is for ALL people. The purpose of life is to be happy. We aren't supposed to be told what to do, who decided what is beauty and what is not beauty, who decided that this is fashionable and this is out of fashion. Who decided that what you are doing right now is wrong or right? Who decided what religion is better than the other? You are NOT a sheep!! You are a human being with a right to happiness, you are an amazing individual who can give the world what it needs. Doing what you love doing is something that many people take for granted, we always follow rules and we always do what our parents wants us to do, because money is more important than your happiness. I am going to start doing what I love and I am going to change my life and help people as much as I can, and when the day comes when I die, people will remember me not for my riches, but how I enriched people's lives. Find out who you are guys, find out what makes you happy, because people just are so much better when they are happy. Do research on what makes people happy and you will be shocked to see that it is actually not about you, but it involves other people rather than yourself. Be who you are, as long as it makes you happy and it makes people happy.
    Have an awesome week guys

      thank you for your positive comment. i enjoyed reading it and agree with that we must do what makes us happy. but what if we dont know? what if we are too busy to stop and enjoy life? no im not a sheep! i refuse to be. but the system is built so that we're always kept busy and never have spare time to sit and think and be creative. im busy with a full time job and busy with school. when do you suppose we'll be able to work on any projects if we're always being pulled in so many directions? :( im so stressed out because id like to have a job that doesnt feel like a job, but im stuck. why? cuz i gotta stay here in order to continue my school since this job is flexible with working with my school hrs. and im going to school so i can have a more comfortable life later and for the security of having a degree. its not easy to find our purpose when we're so distracted from ourselves, when we're deprevided of life and enjoying a beautiful day outside because we're stuck in a 7 by 7 cubicle.

      +Lucia Preciado Thank you for replying with a detailed description of your situation. I totally get what you're saying. I would suggest start with the time you have, even if it is just 5 minutes to write down the things you love, it could be literally anything. Then focus on those things and sort them from most favourable to least and there you should begin to find yourself and what you love. Maybe the direction you are going to is the right decision. Focus on people who inspire you and ask yourself why they inspire you. Then focus on finding people with the same motivations as you and see what they are doing. You could practise at school, and when you get the job you can then learn all the tricks to the trade and open up your own business where you make the rules. Keep in mind that you want to make your employees happy as well, so that you benefit yourself and others :) There are many ways to do things, and we always have some time to think and from the looks of it you have no problem when it comes to using your brain. Being passionate about something will make you comfortable I can guarrantee it. Believe in yourself and others will believe in you too.

The most important thing is to try and be happy, religious aspects and society standards aside.

    I once read a book that helped me with this question. It stated, the first half of your life you make money from what you educate yourself in, invest, and save your earnings. The second half of your life you follow the passion you have inside to help others with the skills that come easy to you. It may strictly be charity work or making far less than what you once were use to earning. Because it's no longer about you, if you have successfully secured your future, but the joy found in helping others. It helped to know what you start out doing does not have to be forever. Life's experiences changes us and we can do something totally different.

    After reading almost half of the comments and finish watching this video I've come up with this fact that life is the way you pursue your enjoyable activities it's the pathway of doing what makes you invigorated and what grows such a huge entertainment inside you , just forget about this purpose thing and follow what you're passionate about what you feel flat out energetic and ready to do for no price whatsoever this thing will usher you automatically to your genuine passion .

Thank You For This Video, I learn a lot.

    Life Purpose :
    1. Who you are?
    2. What you do? and What do you love to do?
    3. Who you do it for? Picture them in your mind
    4. What those people want and need?
    5. How do they change or transform as a result of what I give them?

Sure you do it for yourself as you enjoy it, but as an artist you would be doing / sharing it with people who enjoy mountain scene paintings. Especially if you were to custom paint. At least this is how I interpret it, almost like who is the customer or who am I servicing with what I do.

I wanted a nice brooch for my dress, so I created one that incorporated my branch. Four years later, I've sold 22 in one month, and have standing orders for 20+ more. 1. Who are you? I am a Humanoid Organism.
    2. What do I do? What do you LOVE to do? (Two totally different questions). I go to work. I LOVE to wander around stoned taking pictures. Narrowing that down to what I feel supremely qualified to teach other people? I am not supremely qualified to teach other people anything.
    3. Who do I do it for? It depends on which of the above questions I am answering. Anyway, the audience just mumbled. People don't necessarily do what they do for anyone in particular. Often they do what they do just to survive.
    4. What do they want or need? Who?
    5. How do they change or transform as a result? Who? If I work in a crematorium incinerating animals they turn into ashes.
    Why was that formulation so powerful? It wasn't. It was meaningless psychobabble.
    I looked this guy up. Reading between the lines I think he was in the right place at the right time, knew the right people, had good social skills and got lucky. I don't think he lives in the real world and I think this vid was a waste of time.

For example, if a person said to me "who are you" in a work context I might say "I'm an undercover police officer" (although that is not my occupation!). I think in the context of this Ted Talk the speaker was not asking the audience to interrogate themselves as to what their name was, but who they were in terms of their nature as a person. My YT name is HumanoidOrganism but I am also a biological organism of the humanoid variety.If you want to get pedantic let me know and I will point out the grammatical errors in your post.

Your gut reply can be more truthful and honest than trying to be clever or impress others. Also your life's purpose can be many things of your choosing and can change as you change. You have to admit when he said you will know your life's purpose in 5 minutes, your attention was riveted to this guy. I remember a great line in the movie "City Slickers" where Curly says the secret to life is just 1 thing while pointing his finger. Billy Crystal's character asks "what, what is it?" Curly(Jack Palance) says, "thats for you to find out". Only you know what it is, no one else can tell you. ( :

But saying all criticism is projection or self criticism is monumentally stupid. A critic of abuse is not necessarily an abuser. Only cowards and the morally bankrupt do not criticize. Behind the false veneer of "peace, love and harmony" is actually a core of glaze-eyed acceptance of horrible philosophy and complacence while simultaneously trying to silence opposing voices.

      + Crystal Martin: It can take some courage to act on ideas. Perhaps you will decide to play some thought experiments, or, create some future-diary type stories. I do stuff like this: I google anything that I have some interest in. For example, today I was thinking about a pal in London who wants to move to Malaga, Spain. I was thinking, "I know nothing about Malaga"... actually, I needed to look it up on a map to see where in Spain it is. So, I did THAT. Then, I searched for "Flats for sale in Malaga" (condos for sale) because he wants to buy a place there. I spent some time looking at places for sale in malaga... and then I realized that doing that was a bit useless as I know nothing about 'the where factor' in Malaga. Also, my pal has so little money that none of this makes sense. He does not have enough to buy what looks good.... and, "is what looks good really any good?" So, then I thought, "If I go there, WHERE would I want to be?" and then I decided to look at pictures (Google images) and aerial photos from Google. I thought, "Damn, this place is dry and I'm going to need fresh water to drink!" And so I googled 'fresh water in malaga' and got all sorts of info about AQUIFERS.... ie., fresh water that is underground. I researched all THAT for thirty minutes and learned as much as I could about aquifers in coastal regions.... Whoa...."Coastal aquifers are in danger from sea level change".
      I find THIS highly interesting so I read more and I relate it all to where I currently live, near Boston, and ask: "Where can I find plentiful reserves of (underground) fresh water that is near to the ocean?". I know that I want to live up over the ocean on a rock ledge, ideally 100 feet up above the mean sea level, AND, I will need fresh water to drink, I'll need to water my garden". I do the research required to learn about WHERE this is in my area because THIS, if I can find it, will be and area where I will want to buy land in order to end up building a house that will for the next one-hundred years, sustain me and the family I want to have. So, I find the land I want to buy and now I have a goal set up. Yep!! "I want to buy this land and nothing will stop me". Now I am willing to anything to get the money to get the land I need to build the compound for the wonderful future I will have with this wonderful family in my head. Now I have a purposeful thing that I want to accomplish. I keep pushing and doors that I never even considered suddenly appear and some open as I learn to lean against them hard enough. I am so desiring this home above the sea with fresh food, my girl (aka wife) my babies, everything.... life starts open up for me and I start to get it all. Easy peasy. In no way did I expect this to happen! Nevertheless, I am not at all surprised that it all appeared out of thin air.
      Don't look for a job until you do this sort of an exercise. And then once you find this THING that interests you highly, go into all that you can on the subject. From there you will see that there are many jobs that will work to serve YOU as a way of learning more as you progress toward getting this THING that you want so badly. Do NOT look for a job opening' instead look for the best job for your training. Know WHY you want to be in this one company. Pretend that you have millions of dollars and you want to BUY a company. Why one over the other? Learn all you can and call them to set up an appointment to meet with them. You are shopping for the BEST FIT. You are NOT 'trying to get a job'. It's about research and attitude. Take ownership.

      Well, one way to do is to actually have a mission statement rather than a specific purpose. Say... my mission statement is to have the most fun life I can. So, I've lived a life that allows me to have the most fun I can.
      Something like that.
      Now, for me, having the most fun possible is PART of mine. Most of the jobs I've had were actually fun because that's what I wanted. I didn't care about the pay as much because of it and that was fine. I always managed to make enough money not to worry about the rent or other stuff like that. It's more fulfilling that way.
      Now, I don't always live by that mission statement. It's impossible to have fun 100% of the time. People I've loved have died, for example. Hard to have fun with that. But that's a part of life.

    My 2 cents worth-1) Do what’s right. You know right from wrong. 2) This is important: _Give yourself permission_ …to do what you would like to do and what helps other people (directly or indirectly), and that will become your purpose. You will be happy doing it and your happiness will affect all the people around you. No one ever had a purpose who hated what they were doing.

    Allot of people here forget 1 important, if the not the main, point he made, what do you do that HELPS OTHERS in someway. It is not only about helping others, but also helping yourself. If you are doing something that doesnt benefit other people in some way, you will feel empty inside. Does money really matter? Maybe our minds think so, maybe our hearts think that as well, for a short while, because in the long run it will leave this empty space. By doing something you are good at, which fits you as a person, chances are big you will be happy. If you are doing something that doesn't help others but which you are good at, like I said, in the long run it won't be satisfying anymore. But if it doesn't make you happy then probably it doesn't really fit you as a person as well. So maybe in the end the main point is not to help others, but help yourself by doing something that contributes something to this world and fits you as a person. Maybe forget about people and do something you are good at and born to do. But bear in mind the true way of finding happiness. As long as you are creating something positive then you might help others without trying.

    • @mochagawd
      @mochagawd 10 лет назад +1

      beautiful. people keep missing this key part. you have to contribute. people just want to get "stuff" and have the ability to get as much "stuff" as they want, and thats the dream. if you are just a leech you will never feel fulfilled, even if you get the stuff.

    • @DirtPoorWargamer
      @DirtPoorWargamer 10 лет назад +3

      But the thing you forget is that simply helping others doesn't automatically make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Some people simply do not get enough joy out of helping someone else to offset their distaste for the activity that helped. They'll do it, but they won't necessarily enjoy it. Some people even end up doing things that benefit all of humanity for no one other than themselves. The whole point of finding the purpose of your life is to be able to do something you love, you know, so you can actually enjoy your life. Trying to shoehorn everyone into "but you have to do it for *others*" doesn't really leave us in any better place than we started.

    • @Dennell_Mount_and_Blade
      @Dennell_Mount_and_Blade 10 лет назад +1

      Wells I agree, my comment was a bit blunt. I just made my point like that to emphasize that its important to contribute or create something that benefits this world. And not just for the sake of helping others. Your motivation doesn't really matter, in fact, I think most people hate each other. So to make people itself the main motivation would be wrong. Yes, we shouldnt ignore our own needs. We cant work if we are hungry right? How can we do something that contributes if we have an empty stomach or unhappy mind. Who are we to judge what contributes or helps others? Maybe the main point is not to help others, maybe the main point of this video is to be happy. And some people are less selfish then others or caring, some people take great pleasure in cooking, some in guarding the streets at night. If you are happy, you probaly have found your life purpose or found something that just works. And often doing that something that makes you happy, contributes to this world. If it doesnt contribute to this world, then probably its a short lived kind of happy, and sooner or later without consciously thinking about helping others, you will get unhappy without knowing why. I think thats the main message of this video, and I hope this is a satisfying reply to your comment. I have re-adjusted mine as well.

    • @danielwalley6554
      @danielwalley6554 9 лет назад +1

      There doesn't need to be a distinction between self and others. Some people get great joy out of helping others, others get great joy out of helping themselves. Probably we're all a balance of the two, but we can lean more one way than another.

    • @zyelhsak147
      @zyelhsak147 9 лет назад

      Daniel Walley Maybe, if we all focused on helping each other this great need to help ourselves would be non existent. The need to focus one oneself comes from a void within. Sometimes, you have to fix that to move forward, but it isn't necessarily something you fix on your own. Realizing that helps you in understanding that we are here for each other not ourselves.

      I always knew my life purpose, so my answer may help someone:
      1 - I am an educator (I took this question as a "What you are" because who doesn't say much about anyone)
      2 - I enhance people's performances on nearly anything (Mostly professions)
      3 - Autodidacts, desperate people, competitors/ anyone who wants to be among the best at something
      4 - They want to improve their current skills
      5 - Some became arguably the best, some became better than the average joe. All of them became better than when they started
      But hey, these people took at least 1,5 to 5 years to find their "purpose" which is no more than their will.
      TLDR for gamers: Life is like Minecraft. You don't have a purpose in life besides survive so, have fun while you do it.

You can also look this up for a fact check but one of the biggest reason people believe in religion is because they need to believe there is life after death when honestly no one knows but we will all see when where there and I didn’t mean to offend anyone because I am not an atheist I just believe in a higher being because I believe whoever is behind the creation of humanity is much greater than any of us could imagine🤟🏽

      Yeah, but if you *are* happy, then you automatically help other people. It's a fact that emotions rub off on other people. If you aren't happy, then *you* have a shitty day...and so do others. Happy people get things accomplished, unhappy people don't.

    • @portantwas

      Dodi Tov Err, not so. Some of the most productive people are driven not by happiness but by ambition and competition with others. I also know of one doctor who is grumpy and cynical and his personal life is a mess but he is terrific at his job and widely admired.

      ***** I kind of agree with this... I mean, I understand some people are so self absorbed that all they can think about is helping themselves, so the thought of expending energy to help someone else might not even take shape. But then I think... That's not genuine happiness. Sort of like quenching your thirst with coca cola (you're not really re-hydrating but it feels like you are), this kind of selfish "happiness" is a temporary fix that will one day leave you feeling super lonely.
      The fact is, we are social creatures. Take those driven by ambition for example. What good is it to be CEO of an organization full of people who have no respect for you? I've never met anyone who would not rather have an organization full of people who respect or admire them. Even infamous dictators throughout history wanted this.

    • @GuitarSinger1893
      @GuitarSinger1893 9 лет назад +2

      ***** I get what you're saying, but I think that he's saying that if you're doing something you love doing, it'll reflect onto other people. You'd be helping them in a way that you might not even intend to. You influence people's lives through your work, even without trying. For example, someone might love writing and they write for themselves,with no intention of helping others; however, someone else could read their writings and be inspired by them. Even if a person does something just for themselves, they probably won't be happy with it unless something positive comes out of it, which (in all honesty) could be money or fame. But those people who are seeking happiness by only focusing on themselves will, eventually, feel unhappy because their source of happiness will diminish when they feel like they don't have a purpose, or aren't reaping the rewards they used to, or they'll constantly be searching for happiness in different things to feel like they're fulfilling their purpose.

    Let me give this another try:
    1. recall those times when you did something that didn't seem all that much trouble to you, in fact you loved doing it, and other people thought it was really special and you made them happy. If you have such a thing, God bless you: do it more!
    2. think about the possibility of doing this and making a living out of it; this is the hard part, because once people have to pay for something, it's a little harder to keep them very happy; also, while in theory people should be willing to pay for things that make them truly happy, often they waste money on stuff because everybody does so and wait for the stuff that really matters to them to happen for a bargain
    3. this often leads you to combine the thing you love to do with being an entrepeneur, which is something not everybody likes to do; the time spent on entrepeneurship and marketing may go at the expense of what you really want to do
    4. so, think about the possibility to get your money in a more mundane way, doing a regular job, freeing up maximum time to do what you really love doing
    5. yes, some people have it all: they have a vocation in life and make a ton out of it. Beware though, that for some people doing what they love can become a bit of a bore when doing it for money. The magic tends to sneak out, sometimes. Professional musicians are known to hate performing their hit single for the umptieth time, or take drugs to deal with the touring schedule. So don't look too much at other people's fortune. Remember this from Boris Becker: "I don't want to be the best tennis player in the world. I want to be the best possible Boris Becker".

I did it for a while and it worked. I've also just done my passion for income and, although it sounds like the end all, it was super hard, I was broke a lot and I got burnt out sometimes so I wouldn't do it at all and that sucked.

      And maybe you SHOULD do that. People are always going to eat cake. Doesn't matter if you make it or not. Diabetes is just a result of excessive-ness. Sorry if I may have misguided you. That isn't my intention. I just said what I think.

      It's not. Some are born with it. Some, like me, develop it as a side effect of medication. Some no longer produce insulin. Cake is not the culprit. Everything in moderation! :-)

    There has been an interesting experience I have had which I´d like to share. For a while now I have been looking for my purpose, trying to find out that thing which it is I came here to do. I was thinking about it a lot. I sat in silence and quieted my mind. I connected deeper to my heart. I asked myself what are the 5 top things I want to focus on and master. I wrote them down. I have minimalized my life, I mean EVERYTHING! From the files on my phone, to my physical environment, to my computer to the "files" in my mind. EVERYTHING! And the results are amazing. I wake up and now exactly what my goals are. No more trying to think about them and doing it later or trying to figure it out. I realized that it is about setting and achieving goals meaningful to me and my purpose will reveal itself through action, not through thinking. I am curious to hear your thoughts on this!

I make other people happier through helping them heal through Taoist medicine and helping them become happier by explaining the Taoist philosophy of our relationship to the universe we live in. Reading the comments: some people confuse "life purpose" with "making a living". My paying work allows me to live my purpose--to give people a place in the wilderness- to conduct a vision quest- to figure out their lives and what to do next. Or write, paint and sculpt, study the plants and animals, see the stars, learn to ride a horse with no bridle or saddle.....

    1) Set happiness/tranquility as your main goal in life.
    2) There are some things we have control over, and some things we don't. Only concern yourself about what you have control over (or the part that you can control).
    3) Learn to want what you already have. Insatiability is your worst enemy.
    4) Don't care about what anyone thinks of you, especially if you don't value their opinions.
    Just some Stoic advice.
