you are doing a great job, its fun watching your videos!
ASUS is really coming strong. I really like my RT-N56U router and now thinking of buying a Chromebox once my old Macbook drops dead which will be soon. Keep up the great work.
Hey Asus team, just wanted to say great job on these instructions - got this router up and running ever so easily and it's working great.
802.11n is still more than enough for most consumers. The RT-N66U is great router. And though I favor running it with Tomato firmware, the default ASUS firmware has improved. The newer RT-AC68U is beast but the RT-N66U is still a great option for those looking for good performance. So unless you "need" 802.11ac throughput, average users can save a few bucks and get the RT-N66U. We've put it to the test with gaming, VOIP, etc, and it just works.
I was wondering if you are able to reset your username and password for the router because i do not know mine the and admin and admin do not work
im not sure if i have a defective router or what. but my wifi at home sucks it is very unstable and has very short range and suggestions? it worked pretty good at first but has seemed to gotten worse over time. many times when i plug it in there is no wifi at all!!! any help would be greatly appreciated.
So you do need to buy a modem for the asus2400 to work?
Hi, how to i enable upnp?, i need to acces my Plex server outside my home and router is not letting me do so.
Having real big problems with combining TV and internet on this router.
According to my internet provider ( fiber optics ) its the dark knigh router that messes it up. They say the internet signal from the cables disturbes the tv signal, even though everything is directly connected with CAT 5. Sounds weird to me.
I have set Port 3-4 to LAN TV , then port 1-2 for internet. From router to tv box is a CAT 5 cable. From Router to ASUS Repeater there is a Switch ( 1gb ) in between, but this has no direct contact with the tv.
Worked flawlessly for about 1 month , now my tv picture is really messed up. Sound is perfect but picture is unwatchable, like a VHS tape gone wrong.
Any suggestions? Is it true that the internet signal from the CAT5 cables can disturb the TV signal in the other CAT5 cable? Even though i have seperated them in the router menu ?
Thnx
hey, i have a RT-N12 , and i want to use it as a repeater on my wireless network at home. the instructions that came in the box seem very simple. i tried them and nothing worked. is there a tech number i can call. i am a bit confused. i need the repeater to be in the middle of my home, but to set it up, it has to be hooked up to the router and a computer??? then if i disconnect it to move it where i need it, will it erase the settings? or just work??
I got the exact same router and my connection keeps on dropping at random times. Any one that can help?
Love this router. I have it paired with an Edimax EW-7733UnD 450 Mbps wireless N adapter and it maintains 450 Mbps transfer speeds at all times. My only gripe is the small AC adapter plug. it seems very small and fragile if you keep plugging it in and out.
How can I find the 'Security Key' needed to get anywhere?
Is the AC socket connector or the output port of Asus routers the same size as the AC socket of a TP Link router or not?
I want to set this router up with my current Shaw Connection, however i have a modem and the modem as a cable into my current router (CATV). Is there any possible way i can use this router on my modem?
Is it possible to setup this model w/out connecting the WAN port on the back? I bought this as a second access point and need to get to the admin page so I can do that. However, when I point my browser to 192.168.1.1, I get timeout errors. Thanks.
what kind of modem would you recommend for the router? I wish it was a modem router combo. I know I should definitely get a 3rd party modem to take advantage of potential bandwidth. Which one?
can i ask about what cmd did u do to zoom up in the 4:08 second ???
I have used the RT-N66U for awhile, but I am wondering if it is time to get a new unit or if I am having problems setting it up. I have used before with Time Warner but it no longer works. I have followed the steps in the manual. One thing is, when I I have tried to re-set up the router, the WAN andLAN LEDs do not flash, but stay light, no flickering like on the Time Warner Cisco 2100 cable modem.
Should the LEDs on the router flicker when the computer is connected and working?
Great tutorial.
I need some help cause I have some trouble with my Asus DSL AC88U Clients (Client Status) setup. The problem is that I had blocked my nephew call from "Block Internet Access" Button ON and now I don't know how to Unblock it cause I even can't see it connected.
Is there someone to help me please!
can i use this router as a second router (access point)?
Do we have 2 separate SSID one for 2.4 GHZ and other for 5 GHz?
The newest router is it Good for streaming Games?
Hello, I recently purchased the RT-N66U and set it up in my home network. All devices on the network including smart TV, PCs, tablets, media devices, etc. are working except the Xbox 360 s. The Xbox is having trouble connecting to the Internet. I have all guest networks disabled, the wireless MAC filter is disabled and UpNP is set to yes. Do you have any suggestions or other ideas that may help with this problem?
I have asus 1750. It works on wireless but does not work with my desktop hard wire connection. Can someone pls help?
Its good thing I got yellow connecter for my ipod or I would be in trouble
how strong are the antenna ? how much dbi ?
Great product im very happy with thus far. Only complaint is for the life of me I cant get the stand to lock into place. Going to buy wall hangers in the morning
hey did i need cd to do this?.
Great links at the end! If they worked at all...
Is this router Mac compatable, or does it have to be a pc to finish the setup
Cat5e cost about the same as cat6. The general difference between category 5e and category 6 is in the transmission performance, and extension of the available bandwidth from 100 MHz for category 5e to 200 MHz for category 6. This includes better insertion loss, near end crosstalk (NEXT), return loss, and equal level far end crosstalk (ELFEXT). These improvements provide a higher signal-to-noise ratio, allowing higher reliability for current applications and higher data rates for future applica
Is there adsl on this router?
Is there a speed requirement to use this router?
when i turn it on and plug in my dsl modem to the wan port my asus rt-ac66u power light just slowly blinks
Sounds like it's in recovery mode, need to use the firmware restoration utility from the CD or the website to restore the firmware again.
I just bought this router, installation was really easy, but when i checked my internetspeed, it was ver unstable (Im using network cable to my non Wireless PC) when i checked the speed, the ms was sometimes at over 200 and other times at 10ms, with my old router i had consistent 9ms. my upload and downloadspeed were different all the time too... so idk what could cause that.. :(
wan port internet or dsl port ??
Is the RT-N66U a Modem Router combo?
cat6 if you want to use the gigabit feature
Is this still good in 2018?
nice.
Got mine today no warranty card? Says a warranty card should be included?
mine is version b1 if that matters...
*****
FUCKING SPAMBOTS THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COMMENT.
My mind is still blown on how you use the included stand. Mine just falls over or slides around.
same here. with all the wires connected to it hanging from the top it gets very unstable.
The guy doing the review kind of breezed over the stand. He didn't put it on right. The manual doesn't tell you to do it but the stand snaps into place firmly. You have to use a little force but once it snaps into place it isn't going anywhere. Just slide it up until it clicks into place. Probably would be difficult to remove actually. Hope this helps.
Just got the router, had the exact same problem and frustration, but I figured it out. The stand relies on the type of surface you place it on. If it's a smooth/slippery/glossy surface, then it won't work. You have to place it somewhere with a bit more resistance, like wood or something. Thought I'd share this as I finally figured it out :D
I m having a big problems with ping when i m playing battlefield 3
So you don't need a modem? So confused. I usually have my WiFi router connected to my desktop and modem. So will this work?
josh h This has to be connected to a modem to work.
wifi routers are to ROUTE your wired Internet into a wireless signal, hence the name ROUTEr. you will always need a modem unless the router you buy is a 2 in 1 (Modem & Router built-in one)
I can't access my 5gz Wi-Fi, I can only find the 2.5gz. Or will auto connect.
nzou your soooo stupid
the device you are trying to connect to might not be dual band compatible, meaning it might only be 2.4ghz
+Luis Soto thanks dude
on the box its says use a dsl modem but on the manual it says use the adsl modem, Which one do i get?
+Darren Nguyen Any kind of modem will work
Dan Super i had bt before so it came with 2 things, the router and the modem, but i dont think that the ASUS RT-N66U works with the bt modem because when i tried it, it didnt work
Cat5e supports gigabit. If you are getting Cat6 just for gigabit you might as well save some money and just get Cat5e. You should get Cat6 for future proofing and other reasons though.
No obvious way to enable remote administration like every other router I've owned. So I have DDNS enabled, I can get to things behind the router using port forwarding (virtual server) but I can't get access to administer the router remotely, typically port 80. I've tried enabling port 4489 but that doesn't work either.
Why does my router(same model) say "unmounted" for some reason. No, my hard drive isn't bad. Works fine on my Mac and Windows PC. Cannot find the actual repair among the 1,000 of hits. Thanks guys!
JJ where did you learn your technical vocabulary? Its "wired" not "hard wired" come on man! Have some tech pride!
I bought it and installed it. I forgot about the modem, so installed it direct from the wall. The weird thing is that i had internet anyway (yes no modem) so i didn't notice that i forgot about the modem. Now that my Wifi is not working the way i want too i realised that i had no modem. How could i possibly have internet without a modem?
+xKrantzzy jesus
u trippin lol
What 'username'? What 'passphrease? CD doesn't work because I need this information. Where can I find it. Very frustrated at this point.
What if i have a shitty connection would the router help at all?
If i play a game on my computer when someone else are on the router. Will it lag?? :D
where is Wan cable connection ?
What about OSX?
I bought it yesterday but I cannot connect to internet its soo bad I will send it back
@RabidMonkeyOnCrack Got it?
These steps no longer work in 2021. We just got a used version of this router just to stream media wirelessly via a LAN connection to our main wired router. The GUI page times out always. Can't get into router admin page to set security... Asus doesn't provide any kind of support anymore.
the biggest problem with this router is the power switch, which over time will fail and stop holding in the power and your force to put tape to hold the power fully in or a rubber band ( which is what im using )....idk why out of nowhere it just failed. :(
Csab well I did that at the start when I had no idea what caused it. And no, its not just my unit. Google this products pros and cons and you will encounter other buyers with the same issue. Keep reading and you will realize that ASUS does not replace it unless you pay around $85 which was in my case. Also another thing to note, is that this typically happens some short time after the warranty expires, leaving me to think that it is made with that in mind.
Csab The router itself is wonderful, just that design flaw to get you to buy a new one.
I think today the same happened to me. Power button does not stay in place anymore
You push it up once you have it in the holes it will take some force.
Can I use this router as a adsl modem?
Ville QQ no
If I have I already have a router and connect the router into this, will it boost my internet connection?
you have a forgotten password Video for this one chief?
my son wants to access the internet through his Xbox360. Will he be able to do this with the Asus N66U N900?
me too
You don't seem to be using a modem....I thought this router didn't have modem function?
you don't get it. USB3 provides better speeds to the router but to get out from the router, the data is limited to 1gbps.
lol yeah it can stand like that, though u cant connect any of wires then -.-
wth dude mine only came with one freaken antenna
Please do a new tutorial on howto factory default reset an Asus RT-AC66U wifi router physically when you don't know the password anymore.
Dual band routers
***** Why Parental Control don't work? System time correct. Firmware latest. What you i do now ?
Great router except the driver for the 5 GHz band is horrible. Asus fix this already.
Why this router didn't come with 5 dBi antennas is beyond me. Those are 3.5 dBi.
Anyone notice he said "heller" instead of "hello"..? 😂
Got mine in today. Turns out the WAN port is bad. Feelsbadman.jpg
lol 33 actual or actually said in 6 min talk about a drinking game!! and i didnt even try to count how many go a heads said in that time but im sure its about the same. lol
well my internet is going 100 kb/s with fiber and 100 mb/s
fucking great
When you pick your nose...
...and don't know where the boogie went.
2.4GHz band is horrible on this router. it cuts my speeds in half. 5GHz on the other hand is excellent
Is this MAC compatible?
How come I can't attach the stand? It goes into the holes, no problem, but I can't shift it up or down (or whichever way you need to shift it to lock into place). Is mine defective, or am I just more retarded than I thought?
why am i recommend this?
The router is every thing they say it is..
*_Get it here!_* amzn.to/1mBKeES
I configured wrongly ,How to reconfigure the router ?
When are we going to get a stable firmware? .354 and .370 are broke on the 5 Ghz band. .270 is your most stable firmware. Fix this already Asus.
Say SSID.... one more time......
wish my Asus routers would work as promised. Set up two identical Asus routers with one as a repeater and all my devices constantly disconnect. Tries the Mesh set up as well. Just as useless. Sorry, but from my experience it's all junk.
asus you jerks....Look what you gone and done, Ive purchased this router hardly a week after watching these vids. knowing full well I dont know tons about internet speeds =(
Im hoping like hell this will help improve speeds, Also made first transition into streaming media player. So alot of first for me, tho my only question is Will all this be for naught if I can/can't tell if I have a crappy ISP modem?
You cant run an Ethernet cable from a router to a hard drive. USB 3 kills USB 2 in this time and age. Get with the times. At this price tag there is no excuse why this router didn't come with USB 3 ports.
jesus te ama Juan 3:16 Díos te ama
Tu madre es un hombre y al oche tù nueve XD acaxaxaxaxa
No
mac compatible, all it needs is a browser
You say "actually" alot.
No.
My stand is so lose it just falls off, wich leads to the entire router+stand just falls apart and dont really function, for this price its funny you made such a cheap and crappy stand x)
It snaps into place. You have to use some force but once it clicks in it stays in.
The manual makes no mention of this. I struggled with the wonky stand until I figured it out.
Mine doesnt snapp its just so lose lol..Its like its not even fitting.
buurz I have the AC version of this router and it snaps on upwards with force. I read that the direction was up for the stand in the manual.
Thanks dude I finally snapped it into place! Damn I didn't think it should go up.
talks too fast
USB3 is useless for a router. All the ethernet ports are 1 gbps. USB3 is 4.8 gbps. USB2 is 0.48 gbps. You're not gaining much. wifi speeds are not even close to 0.48 gbps.
That's clearly a USB port but who cares, right?
