The best part about the F-20 is that the clock is functional so I can see how long I’ve wasted playing an overpriced F5

Every plane with a clock in war thunder reflects the players current time. Yes that includes reserve 1.0 planes if they have a clock.

Some people really thought the extremely popular non production plane was really going to be in the US Air tech tree. We already have the F-16A why wouldn't they make it a premium they knew people would buy it.

This being premium doesn’t bother me, but across the board all of the premium are WAY overpriced for what you get. Except maybe some rank 1 and 2. But I do agree with you, I don’t see why 1 prototype plane should be in the tech tree and make the grind take longer

@@norske_ow3440 Honestly I think the best way for them to price premiums is to have a set maximum price for the highest tier premium and every time the premium is outranked, the maximum price is moved to the new one and the old one goes down in price. This method would be useful because it puts a set price expectation that people can follow (F-4S is released at $60 dollars, 6-12 months later it goes for sale half price $30 dollars; afterwards a new higher tier premium F-20A is released at $60 and the F-4S moves from $60 to $55 or $50 dollars) This way the customer knows what to expect so they cant get screwed over with their money. Its literally what apple does with the iPhone every year. Hopefully you understood all of that.

Good video, however F-20 doesn't have "more countermesures pops" as you say. Single flaires are not efficient. So you will mostly find yourself popping it multiple Times for a single missile. So it truely has less countermesures

According to DEFYN, the way the flares deploy makes dodging missiles really difficult.
F-20 should be able to carry additional countermeasure pods, although at the cost of missiles.

ARB spotting combined with the AI planes on the radar annoys me alot.
I have a friend that would like to get a USA premium plane but isn't sure which one to get. I told him not to get F20 just in case it isn't as good considering the BR. You mentioned F5C being better value and option, I wondered if there's any other option that is better to get e.g. F4S?

how are you able to play the jet? i play on mac but it wont let me. every time i join a match and deploy with a premium jet my game crashes. someone else who had a mac also had this problem

I love the history, look, and politics revolving around the F-20. I have been waiting for it to be in the game for a long time. I always knew it would be a perfect top tier premium but was still excited when I heard it was gonna be brought in; the thing is I've been waiting so long I reached top tier already. I won't be buying it but it's still nice to see flying next to me. I can't recommend that anyone pay 75 dollars for a pixelated plane no matter how much you love it.
Just as the F14 was finally in a decent spot, Gaijin had to ruin it's teammates with braindead premiums.
As an F-20 Enjoyer (Hate on me all you guys want), and I might be biased as I got the F-20 gifted by a friend, but I play to have fun, not be competitive, And I gotta say it’s fun to fly and punk on players expecting me to be a brainlet win it when they suddenly receive an AIM-9L from point blank. Am I any good with it? Hell no, But I acknowledge that, It’s why I go for targets of opportunity instead of going full send into a MiG-29
frankly I would even rather fly the ej kai than the f20. the kai at least lets you dunk on people who can’t figure out bvr, and get those extra free headon kills with 4x 7Fs. I had no trouble using it to grind out the 15J.
F20 gonna be a food for my Su27 in SB 😂 Premiums in that mode mostly much worse

@@julitzgaming3172 part of it is probably cuz most top tier players are dogshit. Every time I see any top tier gameplay, the players seem comparable to 4.0 players in how they fight.
The occult love I have for the F-5 family of planes is what brought me back to warthunder when I saw the Chinese tech tree F-5A. Now I have fully unlocked both China and US tech tree due to my love for this family of plane. That being said I’m waiting till it goes on sale to get this thing.

You brought up a pretty interesting point earlier on with a mention of the F-20 essentially having a cult following. In this case, it's less like the Eagle, Hornet, Viper, Tomcat, Raptor, or even Black Widow II and more along the lines of something such as the Strikefighter or Intruder II. It appeals to I guess a multitude of different folks: the anime/manga enthusiasts (due to being used as the main character's aircraft in the Area 88 OVAs and Manga), the boomer crowd (the ones that think even the F-16 was too expensive, so yes reformers essentially), and the super niche prototype crowd (self explanatory).
It wasn't by any means a bad plane, but it also wasn't excellent. It had a job/role to fulfill, and did so pretty alright.
In-game, it's frankly ridiculous that it's $75. I probably shouldn't have bought it, seeing as I don't even really play Air RB all that much (I mostly just focus on customs and have my fun there), and yet I still did and have fun with it (this is likely a symptom of *another* problem not needing to be mentioned here). I unfortunately kinda resigned myself to it being a premium some time ago, and thus had money stashed away for it. It should've been an event vehicle lol.
Yeah with how botched the patch is (Loading data issues, Texture issues, massive HDR issues, logging in issues) they kinda lost hope for buying this weeks worth of food

As a collector, it is a very fun plane for me. And it fits my play style very well, and I can actually fight mirages pretty consistently and win. But it is very expensive. But I like it.

See im still considering buying it… im a sim player so there really at least so far isn’t much info on its performance in sim other than toastman’s video but that didn’t really tell me a whole lot. Currently I have had the F5C for nearly a year now, I have more kills in it than any other aircraft I own and it’s definitely my favorite to play, and id guess its in the top three planes that I have the most time in. I consider myself a Very good F5C player, I usually get ~10 kills per sim match (if I stay long enough and its populated) so when I heard they were adding it I got very excited, because if I’m already a great f5 pilot, in the f20 I should just do better… that being said I don’t have any planes above 10.3 (sim br) so i don’t even know what top tier sim is like… (finally getting really close, and also I don’t play super frequently, don’t judge me for still not being at top tier after years)
TL;DR,
I still kinda want the f20 because im so good at using the f5c, but at the same time im a sim player and there isnt a whole lot of sim content on the f20 at the moment so I have nothing to base my decision off of. Anyone have any thoughts?

the flight model of the f20 is lacking in low speed it should be 3to4 dgr more and the turn on high speed + the low end AOA too

The issue is with the BRs. Cause this thing at a BR where it can meet the aircrafts it was actually supposed to historically go up against would be fun af.
The F20 lost to the F16. That’s why nobody wanted it, the F16 is just superior. So fighting F16s is historically accurate

70 bucks is a lot of money to anyone, especially on a game that is no where near AAA.
@@Loudward__ I am not asking whether anyone should buy premium vehicles in War Thunder or comparing WT to AAA titles. In the US tree, f4s is $70 and the F5C is $65. So is the F20 at $75 inferior to, relative to its BR, the 'often recommended' F5C? I just am not understanding the echoing of 'don't buy cuz it's too much money'. If the video said don't buy ANY premium vehicles, I could get behind that.

This has been the first update that I’ve stopped playing after 2 hours. It’s nothing but premium spam (ground and air), there’s nothing really worth grinding out, and it feels like research has been nerfed.
On my part, if they had offered Area 88 skin with the F-20, different story.
As it stands, they can keep their shiny top tier premiums until they decide to do the F-16.
All I need is my trusty P-26 Peashooter

i did the test flight is very nice i love f5 and this is just f5 on steroids and it is so nice to fly but i won’t be buying cause it’s not competitive
I bought it, I already had Germany in 12.7 so I'm not a lv10 with a premium top tier, and I can say that it is too good in dogfight, the only plane it can't beat is the gripen In terms of armament it is the same as other planes in its br I don't know how you can just put not buy in the miniature I have played very good games with it
I wish it was a tech tree vehicle and not have to spend the $75, I might buy it if they don't add a tech tree one or something like that in the next 6 months

Spotting really is dumb.
Realistically it should be hard to physically see planes unless they are pretty close.
BUT if I detect someone with my radar they should show for me.
If they are going to have this spotting system at all it should apply when me and my instruments can see them at all.
If they drop of my radar, and are too far to see, then they should be invisible.
Right now you are either invisible for no reason, or are spotted indefinitely no matter what.
It makes stealth almost useless, and makes trying to detect planes, also useless.
Obviously I’m exaggerating but it could be much better than it is.
In SB if the weather conditions are good (sunset,clear skies maybe some thin clouds) then i can spot them from miles away. But fog is a disaster. But radar exists for a reason 😂
@@patriktoth6258 right but miles being not that far. You shouldn’t be able to physically see a plane that is 20km away. But if a guy is a couple miles away you should be able to make them out in good conditions.
Does sim have the spotting system though?
My point is that in RB the spotting system is heavily relied on. And it’s hardly implemented in a way that is fun or accurate.

Gaijin will never allow a br to remain unable to see premium vehicles, they decompress from 12.3 to 12.7 and you can't see 11.3 premiums. Then they add a premium just within the highest br possible, that's the only time we can ever see decompression

yeah its def one of those planes only aviation nerds commonly know about. its an interesting what if plane but I don't think it would have been as competitive as the F16 if it was produced and exported to foreign countries.

People love the F-20 because it was everything the F-5 was meant to be. After already influencing the design of the Mig-29, and being derived into the YF-17, the F-20 proved to be very competitive in the LTF program, but bad PR is what killed the program. It had everything you wanted for an export fighter, and would have been a far better choice logistically for countries who already had F-5's. The history of this airframe and the legacy it left behind can be found in some of the most capable and prolific aircraft that still serve today. Plus, it just looks really cool.
At this price, he can be a perfect plane of my country, no for sure !! I won't and i can't!! I don't make a crédit bank for buy a pixel plane at 75€

Imo the 9Ls are cooked and I wouldn’t pay that much for a plane with only 9Ls. the aim7s are beyond cooked at this point unless they fixed whatever weirdness has happened with them recently. I would say if this gets 120s in the future, which I think technically it should, it may be more worth it but

The F20 is a great jet, it’s not a missile truck, it’s a dogfighter, if you can’t dogfight in jets don’t buy it, even now in 13.0 facing F15C’s with aim-120’s it’s not hard to get kills, I didn’t even know of the F20 before it came to war thunder, I have no bias, there is a skill gap and you have to actually be a good pilot to use it, also it is the best grinder in the US tech tree for SL and RP, and when the next rank does come you will have a premium to grind out the newest jets, the F18 could potentially move the US into rank 9 so spend the extra $5
EDIT: it is also worth noting before buying the F20 I was flying the F104A, I was new to top tier jets and I still performed great in the F20, personally I use 2 Aim-7F’s, 2 Aim-9L’s , 2 napalms, and 5 high drag 500LB bombs, I get a base and 3 kills almost every game, the reward is 120k SL per game and just under 40k RP (with premium which the pack comes with) using the F20 I was able to research the entire bomber line from rank 1, the naval line from rank 5 to rank 7, the heavy fighter line from rank 3 to rank 5, and the attacker line from rank 2 to rank 5 in the time frame of 4 days! And since the jet isn’t a missile truck you will HAVE to learn how to turn your jet and get gun kills, thankfully the guns are super easy to use and they don’t have to take time to spool before firing, lastly since you have limited countermeasures you will learn how to evade missiles without countermeasures, which is a great skill to have, I was able to evade 3 AIM-120’s from 2 different F15C’s without countermeasures, I even managed to get a gun kill on one of them before I was took out by a J8, overall the jet is GREAT for people new to top tier, you will learn the ropes fast, you have a good radar with good missiles and the ability to destroy a base, and when you become a great pilot using the F20, flying out the F16, F15, F14, and eventually the F18 will be a CAKEWALK
Interestingly enough, the F20 gets slammed by just about all of the 12.0+ planes that aren’t a phantom or harrier in a 1v1 dogfight.

I don't even want the aircraft, nor am I a fan boy for it but the fact they locked it behind a paywall really angers me.
Well it was never in service by any nation, so it makes more sense as a premium or event vehicle.
I think yall bugging cuz I can do a loop in less that 2 second, maneuverability is what this plane is about, 2x better than F-5C, yes the BR is high and all but with 4 missiles and insane maneuverability I think its a little worse than the most top tier planes but can easily beat them in a dogfight.
If you have a job and a life, buy it guys, dont spend more than the time that it costs for you to work your way there.
