      Honestly had no idea it was an event I thought it was on the test server and that was just way too tedious when that was the only change and I knew it was coming to main game anyways

      What exactly does 4 more players in the game, 2 players per team, do that makes this game worse in any way.

      ​are you kidding? First, it'd be better to have 8 or 10 v 10... so an extra 6-8 players, each with 6-8 missiles, spamming at each other and getting into a furball, is pure chaos. Reducing it even by 4 or 6 would be amazing. I'm genuinely curious about what was going through your head when you typed this. It changes A LOT actually @fonz1633

    Man the event was the first time I actually had constant dogfighting in top tier. Often I would be left alone to fight 1, at most 2 fellers without getting immediately third-partied.
    I could actually think because my senses weren't getting overwhelmed by 200 missiles and planes flying around me.
    Hell, I could even properly duel in BVR because I didn't have to notch 5 missiles coming from multiple angles.
    There is NO EXCUSE for them not to reduce player numbers in higher tiers...

      and anything lower.....its not fun getting 6v1ed and swarmed while you team is doing the same thing to someone else ...its even worse in bombers cause no one wants to do bomber cover only wanting to get kills which if they were smart they would realize if you cover the bomber people will come to you and you will help a teammate........
      what can you do tho i had some dude last night telling me "no one cares we finna win by taking out all they planes" all our bombers get downed the enemy spawns multiple high altitude bombers and mop us up cause no one is high enough to take them out since EVERYONE IS LOW ALTITUDE lol people can be pretty brainless so smaller matches at lower brs would be amazing.

      @@ReallyBillyBoggsWith too small match sizes in props, it gets a little dull due to how spread out everyone is. Just look at 6.0. I think 10v10 would be perfect for props.

    Another fun part of it was the br cap. It was kind of a look back in time with the m2kcs5. It was nice not having to deal with su-27s f-16cs etc

      The person who puts the enemy aircraft into a crash course with the ground should get 100% not 80%, why we need to let someone have 20% of the kill reward for doing literally nothing of value is astounding.

    Just had my first Severe Damage in GRB: it was really cool, I knew I'd fatally hurt the plane (and then a heli), so I switched targets instead of tunnel visioning and dying. I got the whole kill for the plane and someone finished the heli, my team won :)

    I've always hated 16 v 16, even when i was new and playing low tier props. I hope gaijin sees how much we want lower player battles and implements it.

      They know about it. Large amount of us were voicing against it on the forums. Each time it got shut down. They simply don't want to revert the change. As much as I hate it 16v16 is here to stay.
      They ruined the game mode that got them here, I hope the same game mode will be fheir downfall.

      See, I’m a new player who visa my way to top-tier. Along with a buddy. I understand the part about being overwhelmed by multiple planes, third-party and trying not to get hit by stray missiles but to us less people on certain maps we feel like we are just hunting for people. And a serious question how come no one goes for priority targets? “Not bases” but the bot plans it says we need to destroy. a few times we would take out the ground forces that it requested and it didn’t make a difference on the score. It only took a few games for us to understand destroying players is the goal.
      So we feel like they are missing a gameplay style, half the players want to just destroy planes and the other half is trying to role play. Maybe adding more points for role playing? Again I’m new so don’t murder me and English isn’t my first language thank you guys.

      @@calebfoster7972 16v16 is setup so people like you can get 3rd party kills because you would get absolutely demolished in a lower player count scenario. This is to not make you feel like you have wasted 60EUR for a high tier premium.
      Nobody goes for AI targets simply because it gives way less rewards than players targets. Nobody will waste their limited missiles for a few RP/SL gain. You attack AI units when someone is camping airfield to bring down his tickets.
      Yes, they are missing a game mode. It's called Enduring Confrontation which has been trialed several times for RB. It currently is only available for Simulator battles.

    I think 16 v 16 is only ever fun on the super large EC maps where the teams get spread out a bit. Sure you still sometimes end up with furballs but for the most part things get spread out nicely. I think if Gaijin made the top tier games more spread out rather than spawning everyone at the same airbase, it'd be a lot more enjoyable. For example, on an EC map, instead of spawning all at the same airbase, you could have three or four airbases stretched along the map with four to five people spawning at each one. This way you don't end up with huge furballs constantly that aren't very fun

    Tbh, i lately having fun on current matchmaking, idk why, 16vs16.
    After take off, i immidiately go right straight towards the enemies line, dodge a swarm of 9 and R60 and 73, keeping my speed and shit and just go straight and slowly turns into allies.
    80% of the time the enemies already scattered like flies because of just 1 speedy pass, 1 or 2 of them probably trying to catch you and that is where i lead them far from the chaos and 1v1 or 2v1. When im done i come back to the furball only to find 3v3 or 5v5 left, hell even i once came back to a 1v1 again. This was done in 12.3 (F15), 11.3 (23ML and F4S).
    Scored at least 2-3 kills, or 5, only died to me crashing and getting TK by F4s. Try it i swear to god its fun af.

    Or Yknow gaijin could redesign top tier to be more like the lower tiers. Forcing players to spread out for high value objectives and even having several separate airfields you can spawn at. So that you could even have two separate 8v8’s going on in the same match, which then converge in the middle after they have killed everyone on their side.
    But I guess having a good fun game is too much to ask nowadays.

    it would be nice if they made it so there are 2 airfields like in ground rb, so there is less of a furball in the middle. 2 smaller fights on the sides + more stuff spread around the map like sim instead of everithyng in the center

      While that does sound like a good idea, it won't do much to fix the problem. Most players will make the unwritten rule of choosing one specific side of the map (airfield), making the battle take place in the center again, and punishing everyone who chose the other airfield. The only solution is to reduce the number of players in a match.

    Gaijin have been slowly adjusting Air RB to cater towards bad players for many years. First they reduced mission time from 1 hour to 25 minutes and ramped up auto ticket bleed, then they added hordes of AI planes that count as air kills and spot every player within 5 miles, then they increased match sizes from 12v12 to 16v16, and now they've incentivized kill stealing through severe damage. It's sad but it makes sense, there are a lot more bad players than there are good ones.

      I agree with some of what you said, but sever damage incentivizing kill stealing?! wut and how??? as you saw in the video even a freaking tail crit that doesn't make the plane crash counts as a 80% kill, I don't see how anyone is incentivized to kill steal because of this.

      The severe damage mechanic incentivizes kill stealing by rebranding it as "finishing off a kill", so that players wont have any reason not to do it. It allows bad players to get free kills on their stat cards and 20% of the kill rewards while also shielding them from accusations and repercussions of kill stealing. "Finishing off" enemies that are already going down is fundamentally no different than stealing them, in both cases a bad player leeches off others for a free kill. Only difference is now the players that actually deserve the kill get credit too. I'm not saying it's a bad mechanic, but it does benefit bad players.

    Thank you for talking about it. Top tier is just way too overwhelming to play. I literally can't look around and process the information fast enough, and even when I think I have a handle on the situation, I just die to an f-14 that had me locked from 10km away anyway. It starts to get like this around BR 9.3, and comes into full effect at BR 11.
    11.7 tanks can get like this too. The tanks are so fast, the turrets turn so fast, and the APFSDS are so fast that you can't guarantee that this area you're moving to is actually clear, and they can pop out so fast you wouldn't even be able to react. That's not even to mention getting a paveway-III or hellfire/ataka shoved up our exhaust every 10 meters.

    can confirm, the most fun I've ever had in this game was in a 1 vs 2 where I took the controls from the first (he started freefalling) and was inches from the second. Even though he reversed it I never before felt so good about a loss and I haven't since. Smaller teams would give war thunder a critical feature that almost every other game with some semblance of action already has; clutch finishes.

    I admit I fall into the category of "premium idiot who can't fly straight".. but this matchmaker doesn't even give me the chance to improve. if me getting a kill depends entirely upon if the enemy can mentaly process 15 other RWR fixes or 15 x 6 IRCCM missiles going their way or if they are overwhelmed enough not to notice my missile

    Ive been a sim player for the majority of my war thunder career, and recently at least at the higher BRs I have noticed a bit of an influx of player, and I think the 16vs16 issue is the reason for that. As a sim player, I am actually quite happy to see more sim players, because 16 vs 16 on an EC map in sim is actually rlly fun, and as a sim player the 16vs16 issue doesnt affect me, however I do think this is an issue that really needs to be addressed from what all ive heard. I do think though if they don’t fix the problem, sim might become more and more popular. Matches can be up to 3 hrs, you can join and leave whenever you would like no crew lock, and if you’re not just spamming bombs, it actually requires skill. On top of that 16vs16 in sim is amazing. Plus if uou are good at sim the rewards are kinda crazy, I typically average around 100k sl per match assuming its populated (although I do have a premium account). So idk come try out sim, you might really enjoy it despite the steep learning curve if you have no flight sim experience
    Edit: forgot to mention, if you get a good team there is usually quite a bit of teamwork in chat, specifically with chat commands (using “follow me” for example to help ID targets as it pings your location on the map and in chat with altitude)

    This would change the meta though too. Like planes like su27 rely on missiles and enemies who are occupied with someone else. It feels like planes like su27 would struggle more in 4 v 4 scenarios while planes like gripen would be much more dominant.

    I remember when I first got into air RB. I spent many hours into actually getting gud but I guess it just years of academy training waisted because of 16v16. And don’t forget that now it’s nearly impossible to use top tier jets to their full potential because of the missile spam.

    RBEC would only work with multiple respawns. its hard to "endure confrontation" if the match ends with everyone dead, rather than all objective tickets being depleted. With the "kill the whole team" method of winning it encourages PvP so players who wanna ground strike, bomb bases, etc are discouraged from doing so.

    Only simulator allow you to get 1v1 or 1v2, but they require a lot of skill and a simulator setup, so basically you have to go full on sim if you want skill to be a significant factor

    since most new players will not be interested in 6v6, maybe it is necessary to make an offer from the community to make a rating of players? Something like ranked battles like in R6 siege, only with teams on the same aircraft setups, for game modes RB and SB and there all game sessions would be 6v6, in such conditions you can really show your skills, i think.

    For me severe damage update is disappointing because snail somehow reduced r24r effectiveness. It has a bug when it is guided to the jet engine exhaust like an old heatseeker, thus, sometimes, not damaging the target enough even with a clean hit. And with the update the situation got much worse. Hitting a cold target with it often doesn't deal enough damage to kill a plane (20 kg tnt equivalent warhead btw), and hitting side aspect usually causes only minor damage, not even enough to trigger severe damage. Before the update I could count on 2 frags from 2 careful r24r launches, but after it I get an average of 1 frag per 2 hits, and that's especially annoying when your plane can carry only 2 effective missiles

    I actually really enjoy the severe damage and I think it's working quite well because there have been many times where I've credited a aircraft and only had a player steal that kill because most people don't try to get their own kills in the game

    16v16 is unfun even in early jets. I lost count of how many times my whole team just disappeared and I was left against eight different enemies all on my F2H's tail, there being literally nothing I could do to even have a chance of survival.

    I find it funny that top tier air players want less players and in a lot of ground maps we want more players. Like a 20v20 on the giant map they added would be great and a lot of people hate night battles just because every match is 8v8 and there's just nothing happening with that low of a playercount

      Tanks does not need more players wtf. Tanks just needs less 1-2 spawners. If you play low tier, everyone has a lineup, and people leave at like >4 deaths usually. The matches last longer and there are enemies everywhere.

      @@pliat I specifically said giant maps, like extended Tunisia. Low tier cant even get the giant version. I don't want a 20v20 in city maps or at 1.0 but I do want it at 11.7 on the 3km across maps

    Not only bad players benefit from 16 vs 16 but also everyone that is using a stock aircraft... especially in higher BRs... alone the thought of having to get my F-4EJ II out of stock by having to fight in 12 vs 12 or 8 v 8 rounds while my opponent has a way better equipped aircraft would make me quit this gamemode for good...

    A split of two modes for RB would be lovely. A smaller 10v10 in the traditional TDM style we have now, and a larger mode using the true Enduring Confrontation with respawns would be great. The excuse that Gaijin has used historically of splitting a small playerbase just isn't relevant anymore. WT is more popular than ever, and ARB is the single most popular mode if a statistical study a couple of players did a few months ago is correct. At the very least they could run the EC event for planes like they do for Naval, opening it in the event tab on weekends. Give me EC Gaijin.

    i randomly got like 3 6v6 games in top teir. it was perfect we all flew a few times and landed, i swapped my loaded from just missles to drop some bombs. real fun adn required team thinking and skill to actually win the game

    I’m asking for 1v1, 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, & 5’s. Those would be the best options for ARB mode.
    ETA: also sim mode. This would be extremely exciting to see historical based matchmaking in sim mode. Who knows, War Thunder might pull DCS players over for that.

    i would suggest they make 2 gamemodes one 8v8 ranked styled game and one 16v16 casual game. it gives the game a competive styled game which would have infinite problems but it might be fun and the 16v16 gamemode which would just be research farm for newer players and veterans alike.

    i think 16v16 is fine for public unranked. id rather they add a ranked mode and limit it to 6v6 or 8v8. it would also be nice for them to have those ranked players have some kinda "in" towards the ranked tournaments for the specified game modes.

    thing is....12v12 does not benefit gaijin trying to sell premiums. if bad players buy premiums and constantly fight better players with almost no hope of competing then they won't buy more or play more. but in 16v16 they can kill even the best players because of how chaotic it is, so they will buy more and play more.
    I'm sure there's more than 1 reason like server capacity, but I don't believe gaijin will implement 12v12 in random battles for toptier because of this, and at the very least they're stubborn and refuse to listen to reason 90% of the time.

    Are you using HOTAS? Not all premium aircraft are intended for dogfighting and dominating gameplay. Take the A-10A and A6-E Prowler for example.

    I wonder if there’s a match setup that would actually work well for planes like the Tornado F.3. I can’t picture any mode in air rb where the Tornado GR.1 or IDS wouldn’t get destroyed. The only solution I can see for the current situation the strike Tornadoes are in involves that dynamic BR that would change based on the mode. It needs to move down at least to 10.7 in air rb, but it’s better for it to stay at 11.3 in ground rb. It would also be good to see a lot of aircraft BR’s reduced in naval RB. It may not make much sense for a battleship from the early-to-mid 20th century to face a jet with bullpups, but it’s probably the only way planes will be relatively useful in naval with the way AI anti-air gunners work.

    Im super happy to have played the severe mechanic test. Unfortunatly britain dont have 120 aircraft and mig 29s were everywhere, but i still got a lot of aces in my tornado :D

    so ive thought about this and ik this sounds stupid but competive u get different ranks the highest being ace or whatever and thse matches have less players could be like a 6v6 2v2 10v10 modes while still haveing 16v16 guijin gets the money cuz of the 16v16 from stupid wallet worriers and we get the smaller and more competitive match making it also helps with lower rank seal clubbing holy shit when i was playing 4.0 almost everyone there is level 100 and its insane u cant do shit so i dont think itll fix seal clubbing but it might give those players that wanna play props not nessesarrly top tier the chance to do so please explain anything wrong with this idea i would love to hear aboyt what yall think (im a bad speller im sorry english aint my first language)

    They shouldn’t be a cut and dry set amount of players. I know they’re completely different games but I think that if they doing it like escape from tarkov would be beneficial. The size of of the team is determined by the map and its size. City would be smaller teams than enduring conflict on Afghanistan full map

      @@zariisofficial Look at air RB and who plays it, 70% of your teams at 11.3 are premiums, if you don’t think the random 16v16 furballs are beneficial to them since it takes less skill then I don’t know what to tell you, gaijin clearly knows how to make money and you can’t blame them but if the matches were again 6v6 then most people would not get any kills making them not want to play the game, gaijin knows why it’s 16v16 it’s simply for the new players to be able to play their aircraft easier, simple as

    I will simply not touch ARB as long as we have 16v16. Simple as.
    6 months ago I bought a 60FPS cam, downloaded opentrack, dusted off my thrustmaster t16000m and started playing ASB.
    For the RB fix I go to GRB and have some fun there. Got 9 plane kills yesterday in a match of my Ta152H vs 12 american pilots :D
    But yeah, once ASB and GRB start to bore me, I will just buy F-16 module for DCS and say bye bye to WT.

    I wish the Netz was 12.0.
    Or atleast didnt get uptiered 90% of the time.
    Sure the Pythons are strong... In a downtier, they dont match up against 9Ms or R-73s
    Ive got one flared wayyyy too often.
    And being practically the only plane without SARH missiles and without IRCCM in an uptier is super rough

    I like the dumb premium players. Easy kills. They never know even with rwr if u fire a missile at them. And half the time they don’t know how to use their aam either

    16v16 is not here to stay. if it does. the need to have the option to choose smaller matching. after the fox3's coming. they have to do something. everyone meeting in the middle in a sh** ball is not gonna work. larger maps. more targets. spread out airfield spawns , and of course respawns in air rb....

    Imma be real. I dont know how many people like or dislike this new mechanic of severe damage, but i love it. Everyone gets something from a kill, but you cant get your kill stolen if you get a severe damage. Sure it could be better but its a start

    Another thing is, they will need to actually balance BRs Up tiers will feel MUCH MUCH worse. Imagine little Timmy just made his first warthunder purchase, and because we are in the spirit of bad decisions he bought the F-104S TAF. Well now little Timmy is going to be facing F-16 and Mig-29 in his Turkish Starfighter. Is the F-104S TAF over tiered yes it is, it has no all aspect missiles and a terrible flight performance the only reason it moved from 10.7 to 11.0 was so it would stop bullying the people who bought the A-10. Getting off topic on that one, but Gajin is not incentivized to balance matchmaker in the current system. Even a top player in a top jet will get 3rd partied because it is impossible to focus on everything all at once.

    Can’t help but feel severe damage is just a means of making you die more so grinding is longer. Same thing with unrepairable breach. The mechanics should be exclusive to realistic. But its in arcade too. HAAAVE FUUUN!!!

    Agree with you on that, that it would be a nice dream. But kinda lost the thread, when you mentioned that it will never happen because wallet warriors must have fun. I myself was once a wallet warrior, bought a 70USD jet and right into top tier. And i can tell, it was NOT fun at all. But 16 vs 16 is really maybe the most friendly enviroment for these people, honestly. I can't imagine what should i do in match 6 vs 6 where matters only pure skill. But overall nice video tho.

    I don't get why some player want to win the match, except playing with squadron, for daily task, or with a friend there's really no point. In many FPS game I get it there is a reward for winning and losing punish you, but losing in WT is not even punishing. Your own performance matter, that's it. But, I do believe Gaijin need to add competitive segments with equal foothold for common player that will rewards more by winning and losing punish the players.

    16v16 is a win rate equalizer. Bigger matches mean good players have less positive impact and bad players have less negative impact.
    In 1v1s and even 2v2s, a top 1% player should theoretically have a 95%+ win rate, but even the best players struggle to get 80%+ win rates in real matches. 16v16 means more chances of good players ending up in 1v6 situations, and bad players getting free wins even if they did nothing all match. 16v16 is used to drag all win rates closer to 50%.
    If 8v8s were implemented and 40% win rate players suddenly drop to 20% win rate because they can't potentially get carried by 15 other players anymore, they're more likely to quit the game and Gaijin loses on a potential customer. The monetary cost is not worth making skilled players happy, since they will continue playing and paying regardless if their win rate is 60% or 80%.

    this small 6v6 or 8v8 matches are fun if you are all fighters, now imagine people want to grind with bombers, that would not be fun at all, tryed it and i was always losing, so i dont think they will change it because it does not favor all planes.

    They could still do 16 v 16, just take off the enemy markers for both air and ground. Bombers/attackers will be a lot more viable that way and the game will be more dynamic.

    I got the F-16a this week (I'm F2P) and I can confirm that team baiting is a BIG problem. I would consider myself an above average player but I cant seem to get kills without baiting. The problem is that for example: you go on the left side with your team, they will steal kills/you won't find enemies. Go on the right side without your team and get enough missiles to destroy the vietnamese air force. Go into orbit and you get BLASTED with radar missiles. In short: if you want to have fun, play low tier tanks or rank VI/VII planes.
