Dacia did something rare in the car world … they delivered what a large customer base wants: good value for money, good design, very reliable, perfect for crappy roads CAR. It’s not an entertainment centre, it’s not a vodka or whiskey lounge, it’s not a formula 1 vehicle… it’s a normal car for normal people. There is nothing wrong with wanting more but there is definitely nothing wrong with wanting JUST A CAR. I know someone that has a GT3 and a Duster, when asked why he answers: I have 2 of the best cars money can buy; an absolute work of art and a practical vehicle in every aspect .
Dacia has been killing it with their exterior design lately. In that department it outcompetes a lot of the more expensive brands.
killing is the correct word as safety crash scores are extremely poor😢
would pay more for safety but thats just me
That's far from the truth but I will say that in just a couple of years they went from making the ugliest cars in the world to something someone actually likes, so they're moving in the right direction.
@@MelanieJoules There we go again🙄... Those low scores have NOTHING to do with the strenght of the body of the car but because some electronic safety features are not aviable! (In my opinion, a car is made for driving, not crashing) 😉🙂
Yeah...I really like the small one rear lamp for reversing and one small lamp for fog. On an SUV that you might put some mud or dirt.
Look up the Dacia X-Neo. It blew my mind! Real thing will probably look nothing like the concept though...
Brilliant design and value for money. Puts other manufacturers to shame. Fab review as always.
The review is mostly about the negatives. Nothing for anybody to be ashamed about, you get what you pay for. It’s pretty cheap, and will be the same value as an old slipper in 5 years time. A better choice would be something 1 year old with 5k km for the same price.
Thanks keep tuning in!
@@iain8837I also would prefer that choice, but depreciation on Dacia cars is pretty low. They hold their value quite well.
Not sure how it puts other manufacturers to shame. You get what you pay for, plastic fantastic.
@@iain8837 Cheap cars depreciate the least fyi
Finally the Duster looks terrific. But ditching the great 1,5 dCI engine was a stupid move.
It wasn’t a choice, it’s to do to regulations. Africa and other markets are actually getting the diesel version.
@@merlin2627African countries are not getting the diesel engine
@@Smite-MeisterEd Morocco will have it
Hope they will bring dCI engine to South Africa. I have Gen 2 dci and it's the best car ever.

great news!
Here in the UK this is such great value & it also suffers from very low depreciation. Lovely exterior design with decent levels of kit & 4x4 capability. Great review as usual 👍
Appreciated!
I ordered my first Dacia in October 2022 and got it in February 2023.
Until then I was driving old used cars and had problems after problems and spent so much money keeping my car on the road. I was searching for a good used car (max 2 years old) but the used car market was filled with overpriced cars. Thanks to my ADHD I spent a lot of time comparing cars, calculating how much I would spent per year or over the complete time I would finance a new car. And the best option was to order a brand new duster. Buying a 1 year old one didn’t make sense, would have cost me more. And since Dacias are cheap the lpg engine with the highest trim was the only option for me.
One year later I broke my left foot and damaged my knee. So I was thinking about getting a new car again but with automatic. Compared some brands and the Dacia duster 3 hybrid 140 extreme with every option is a lot cheaper than any other car with that much space. Getting a essential or expression wasn’t an option even if they were offered with the hybrid engine, they didn’t offer more than my duster 2. so I mailed the dealership where I got my duster a month before they could order the new duster, got one of the first appointments and didn’t think twice about it.
And after I got my first new Dacia many family members were surprised about how much you get for that price. Brand new duster 10k € cheaper than the used skoda they were looking at. A few months later my whole family replaced their old used cars with brand new Dacias (duster extreme and the higher spec Sandero)
Dacia is the new Volkswagen. VW wanted to offer a car everyone can afford. Now they are at least 2 more expensive than a Dacia with similar features
Your conclusion says it all, vw is so crazy expensive. I had just had a rental Tiguan and I was not impressed...and still the prices are so high.
@@anotherdeejay and new VWs use almost as much hard plastic like Dacia. I just read a long term review of the golf 8. the reviewers said it’s much worse than a Dacia Sandero
You could have bought a Toyota and not had problems
@@alexanderstefanov6474 I could buy one but a new duster is cheaper than a new Toyota and I was sick of getting used cars with bad repairs from previous owners.
Toyotas are really reliable but current Dacias are also reliable. I only heard of a few people who have problems with their duster
@@SkywalkerAnakin996 even my Audi has hard plastic, worst thing is that they try to make it sound luxery "Recycled plastic" (I always thinks the part is made of old diapers when I read it :D
I bought a Gen 2 Diesel 4WD new in 2018. It as a great car for the money (€18,500 for the mid-range model). The floaty suspension is excellent on crappy roads, and very comfortable on long journeys. We drove from Crete to Scotland a few times in it (5000 mile round trip) and it was excellent. When you cart around young children a lot, the cheap interior is a worry-free bonus and easy to wipe clean.
It looks very good.. the logo is one of the coolest... Headlights.. taillights - it's a balanced proportionately well made silhouette. I'm impressed 👍🏼
Undoubtedly the best car Reviewer on RUclips.

Amazing finishing ❤❤❤
Duster looks better than most luxury brands. Mega job.
Then you see and feel the interior and you're suddenly reminded what you paid for.
@@szbalazs2073 true... apparently over 130 it is really noisy. Dissapointing that tbh.
I love this car design, it's better than all the concepts and expensive brands out there...but the engines are screaming stay away & and maybe the noise insulation, still this car should get many awards for the design for sure.
I think it's a fantastic looking car. James May would be very pleased.
Good news 😂
Sometimes the less expensive car has more character and brings its own fun because it is simpler.
The interior is better than the ID3.

RUclips should give this info as an ad! But they are busy counting money
I wish they kept the 150 EDC with the DCT Transmission. The new 130 with the 3 cylinder engine isn't more efficient a bit. The older one with 150 EDC is actually the one to go for, though if it has to be this model, I would only take the Hybrid version.
First channel I go to for the complete info. Cheers! 😎😎

Amazing design and interior, but the engine options are a shame

@@alexmukets6769 Toyota rav4 2024 hybride , engine 2.5 liters , régulation my ass
@@adraduyou are correct, but you are comparing a hybrid system which has been on the market for a looooong time, with a mild hybrid system. The renault 1.6 4 cyl hybrid tries to fill in the blank space there, but it is still behind toyota's hybrid system.
These engines are not designed to fulfill emissions only today, but also future emission regulations in the next 10 years or so. Think about Ford and their 1.0 which has been on the market since 2012 and covers multiple Euro standard. (Not talking about reliability here, just about why producers would go for such a small engine)

Hello Thomas and team, Always enjoy your full detailed reviews, will you give an update when this new model has completed Euro N Cap safety testing? While the price is very good, safety for some of us is much of an issue and not able to afford a volvo.

Greetings from Finland.
Thomas, first of all, thank you for the review. This is probably one of the most anticipated vehicle in this pricing range this year. Dacia has certainly did a lot of improvement. I just love its physical appearance. The wind noise and engine revving can certainly be distracting but then again this is to be expected for this price range.
One question: Any plans for reviews for forthcoming Ford Explorer EV and KGM Torres EGX if you can get them of course. I'm not entirely certain if KGM Torres EGX will be available in mainland Europe, but at least they are planning to introduce it in Finland this year.
Thanks m8! Ford Explorer EV we might be able to do ! KGM never heard of actually !

I have a 2023 Duster with the automatic gearbox and 130bhp and I love it. I really don't need any more than that, even with the whole family in it and the boot loaded it's still plenty powerful to overtake etc. In about a year or so I will consider switching to this new Duster (automatic), if after having done a test drive it's not any worse than the current one I have.
Get the Bigster in 2025 it will be a bigger more powerful SUV than the Duster from Dacia. Looks cooler too

I think this is such a good value in these absurd times. Dacia have built a vehicle that is affordable, gives you all the basics that you need and it looks good to boot....We need more of these affordable cars.
I was waiting all day for your video Thomas. Hoping you drove the TCE 130 engine also and/or would give advice on which engine to go for. Sadly thats not included in the video. This hybrid is limited at 155kmh and can only pull 750kg. It has also less NM than the Tce130 mild-hybrid but it has the automatic. I never expected myself to consider buying a manual again in 2024, but that's the direction im going now. Other reviews say it feels more powerfull and doesn't have the annoying changes in rpm that the hybrid has. I was hoping for your conclusion today before ordering. 😢
Nevertheless, you do great work!
Thanks! I can test drive that one today and I ll check for you. As I said I wasnt that happy with the Hybrid so the petrol is probably the one to go for.
Hi Niels, do you know the delivery time when ordered?
@@Nuke777777 my dealer expects them to be delivered in August.
That auto box is a bit odd apparently according to other reviewers. TCe with a chip tune is probably the best option for now from what I can gather. Yet next year we get the long version (Bigster) with beefier engine choices, but no PHEV on the horizon yet.
Just don't order today then, wait for the review
Looks cool! 😊
This is a case where „Plastik fantastic“ is a compliment. If the price is right and the interior is not rattling, it’s completely fine. I like my leather and alcantara but if you look back at older cars like in the 90s (when I grew up), no one complained about the Vectra A, Golf 3 or whatever plastic interior.
This is a superb design for this segment - way to go, Dacia. Other manufacturers should take note!
Thanks Thomas. How did you organize the test drive in Spain? I checked the dealers and they say they get the first Dusters in June for any test drive. Would love to try out sooner.
Cheers! We are always at exclusive driving events which take place very early before any car is available at the dealer
Hold my Romanian beer! 🙂 Thomas, thank you for such good review! 👍 🤝
Another great review and it's very refreshing that you also point out the negatives, as well as the positives - many reviewers seem deliver reviews that resemble an advert...
For, the price, this is a striking looking car, and it appears to be very functional. I'd have the Dacia Duster over the new Citroen C3 any day!
highly appreciated!
For use at construction sites it's normally needed with the rubber floor-matts, most people with use of the fabric matts might not need the awd and rugged offroad capacity, but as a real working car I think most people would need rubber floormatts.
This is such good value for money

Fabric floor "carpets"are ok in summer, but in winter I prefer platic as there is plenty of snow andmudcoming in, whichmeans dirt and lots of water. To prevent inside continous wetness and early rust use plastic in winter (here novemberr to april when snow may appear).
Thank you Thomas, you are part of only a very few that say the positives and also the negatives when reviewing a car. Other people are sellouts for a Spanish "vacation" paid by Dacia

Great to see a review of such a budget car. If I translate to UK prices it looks as if it should sell for less than £25k.
It so much harder to do a good affordable car than a premium one, so hats off to Dacia and its parent company. At some point Dacia are going to have take this to a pure EV but they probably do not need to just yet. Affordability is going to drive the take up of hybrids or pure EVs, so I regard what Dacia are doing as cutting edge.

What auto transmission is fitted to the 1.6 hybrid? Is it a normal torque converter, eCVT or dual clutch?

I suppose it must be the same as in other Renault hybrids
Its actually a 4 speed auto box with a 2 speed electric motor. Its because it only has 4 speeds to play with that it can rev up a bit like a CVT.

Is Dacia available in USA?
It is nice the new aesthetics of this Crossover, surely here that comes as Renault, probably we will put the 1.6 of 100hp or the 1.3 turbo with 155hp... With spare wheel and manual obviously!
I am about to go order one :)
The new Dacia Duster is the only car (in my 30 years driving life) that i wished it had a more premium version (+3000 euros) with soft plastics inside , and then i would buy it immediately. Because the outside premium looks dont align with the inside hard plastic looks. And you cannot find this misalignement in any other car.
Dacia is saving the Renault group (with the Duster and cheap electric Spring models).
I wonder if they will also upgrade Jogger in the next year with a display like this and a few more engine choices.

I don't think Renault has an automatic gearbox robust enough to withstand the abuse these cheap vehicles get on the off-road

European Commission killed all good and reliable engines, which of the 4x4 enthusiasts will choose a 3 cylinder 1.2 L engine ?
So tiny engine = unreliable?
@@alexmukets6769 yes, this is common knowledge. To achieve the EU's ridiculous emission standards, car manufacterers choose smaller engines (less emissions).
To give the car somewhat enough power, they add (bigger) turbo's and EGR's to the engine. And because of these turbo's and EGR's; these smaller engines often operate on high RPM's to actually function a bit properly (it doesn't help either that cars aren't getting lighter, on the contrary).
This demands a bigger workload from the tiny engine; which causes more wear and tear to it, compared to a bigger atmospheric block.
So yes, tiny engines are more unreliable and are more prone to problems or getting broken than the standard 4 cylinders we used to have (eg 1.5l dCi).

@@bjornvandenbremt1717 high rpm does not make an engine less reliable. Think about motorcycles which are driven at 5-6k rpm and reach 200.000-300.000 miles. Maybe 300.000 miles is pushing it, but they do exist.
And as a general rule, small engines must rev to produce power. This doesn't make them less reliable. Running them underreved though does stress the tiny engine quite a lot.
How much torque??
My only concern when choosing between this Dacia Duster and a Suzuki S-Cross is the long term reliability. I know Suzuki engines and cars are reliable but I cannot say the same about Renault sourced engines and the new 3 cylinder Tce. Time will tell I guess, but it's a risk for new buyers.
Good news!
Nice Review 👌 good design suv but still it does not have shark fin antina I am from INDIA renault will also planning to introduce this model this year in INDIA under renault Duster name ✌
Thanks 🙏
Thomas, did you also check the car's audio system? Is it decent enough? I'd mainly use it for radio listening, don't like booming bass but don't like thinny sound either. And the Dacia logo at the back, is removable? Not because it's Dacia but because I like to have branding like that removed on basically any car because it looks cleaner. All in all I'd certainly very strongly consider this car - it certainly appears to be the best value for money in this price category and I don't mind the hard plastics at all: easier to clean and no awful piano lack that should have been banned years ago. These will sell like hot cakes and should cause other brands to reconsider their offerings.
gotcha, didnt check but will next time!
Blind spot monitoring even works on mine with no vehicles in sight
I definitely prefer logos on the boot lid, really don’t like the trend of writing the manufacturers name in spaced capitals. There are some exceptions (Alpine A110 springs to mind) but mostly I think it looks rather naff. The trend of blacked out writing and logos can go away too.
Good vid as always! Ye it looks cool but the wind noise makes it hard to buy. It sounds like you have a cold or something? 🤔😅 Keep the good work up!
thanks m8 !
I wish there it was a 4X4 / AWD version with automatic transmission...
