It's rare that I listen to a demo video a couple of times just to hear the riffs, but this was one of them.
Those speakers sound amazing as a pair, not so much individually.
Both > Type A > Type V
They don't sound too great by themselves, but together, holy shit.
As always Fluff fantastic video. The combo of the A and V type is HUGE!
Together they were great. the bite of the v's with the punchy mid range of the a's made for an excellent tone.
fluff i just saw u fall from ur chair
Love that you've put the graphic EQs in there, great vid!
These two complement each other very well. Every time my ears said YEAH both were on together. Excellent vid Fluff. Cheers!
it would be awesome to see a video of more celestions comparisson. Very usefull vid, thank you very much!
That would be absolutely amazing!!!!!
+I predict a catastrophe I would love to see a video about the G12k100!
+Pain QT meeeeeee tooooo!!!
Already had a Type V in a 112 cab, got a new 212 Montage cab, (excellent) and added the Type A on the strenght of this demo, sounds awesome in a 212 as well, thanks Fluff.
This is a really cool way to setup and show a comparison. Well done sir
Definitely the V type. Its crisp and clear, while the A just sounded super fizzy, and it felt like there was a big frequency hole--but I agree that they sound best when combined.
Great comparison video, Fluff.
Mixing different speaker models often has the additional benefit of smoothing out the low-end
response, as long
as the speakers have different free-air resonant frequencies.
this combo.... is amazing. both do so well with each.
Both very nice. I like the crunchiness of the A type more
This video was very helpful. Keep killing it fluff!
This is the first time I've watched a comparison thing where there was a distinct difference but I couldn't pick one. I think they both sound so good.
V type sounds nice, totally my flavor
Thank you for this! Currently I was torn between these two for my old 4x12 I was looking to upgrade the speakers. But I am going to go with a combination. Great demo thank you!
I like them both together (they really complement each other), but if I had to pick one, it'd be V-Type!!
great shootout, and great playing bro!!
Hey, thanks for making that video ! it's funny how cabs are so overlooked when it gets to finding "that tone", great comparison video :)
V type by itself but both sound great together. make a good team.
I really liked how the mix sounded when you were using both speakers. Cool Vid Fluff.
Well, they kinda sound bad on their own (in my opinion), but when they are used together they seem to smooth out a lot of it.
They sound like they pair really good, nice chunky bass and smooth highs. Not sure why one would use them separately
+Jorgen Wu Yeah I 100% agree.
My thoughts exactly
Davy Coningx The V type sounds AMAZING!
Im guessing he had both speakers in one cab and miced them both at the same time (with 57s im guessing or at least 2 of the same mics) to keep the performance the same for the comparison. If so, putting them together cause some phase cancelation in the higher\harsh frequencies while adding a nicer thicker low end to it that is in phase. Using two mics on any speaker correctly regardless if they are 2 different ones or the same one usually results in this happening. At least in my experience.
Loving the new intro! keep up the good work!
Who else sang the actual song while this was playing? :)
It's a song from his band rest repose
He wasn't asking who it was by
+El Manimal Yeaeaaaah...Yeaaahaaeeaaaaaa. whoooowwaaaaa yeaaheaaaheaaa. (there were a few too many yeah's on the EP...)
+El Manimal came down here because i knew this comment was coming
+tockusa works for The Het
When you combined the two together it reminded me of the Creamback 65, still punchy but with the harshness dialled back a bit
They sound great together, but individually I think I like the V type better
Wow these blend so well together! If I could only choose one, I would have to reluctantly take the A type because I'm not a fan of harsh tones.
If i had to choose one or the other, I'd have to go with the V type personally, but I'm really digging how they both sound together, and that's what's great about music gear, is that you have that option to use whatever you want to.
I have my amp running through 2 1x12s one with a V30 and the other with a G12 50gl.
They sound pretty good individually, but together, they sound awesome.
Thanks for video! Now i have decided! V-type for my 1x12 cab
a really good demo of the two really well shown the differences, and i get to hear an instrumental version of your song, any chance of releasing the instrumental version, even if its after some time for obvious respecting all the band member reasons i really love your rocking riffs
Thanks fluff. I never realized how different speakers sound until this video. Great stuff dude.
+bkeaneyboy It's actually quite a important step. thou i've had a couple of really cheap china 12" speakers that actually sounded really good and then had some of the same brand that were crap.. it's like microphones.. one 57 and another might not sound the same..
+JoeyRockerTV hmmmm. Thanks for the tip!
Wow they both sound great! I prefer the V-type for the particular song. Great video my man, happy holidays bud!
I love that prancing rockabilly metal riff in the beginning, is there a full song to it?
This demo definitely made my decision to pair the two Vintage30 in my RedSeven 4x12 with two A-Type. Thanks a lot, Fluff! 😉🤘
I think on it's own I'd choose the V-Type, but together they make an awesome combination.
The combination sounds miles better than the individual ones. Each one has sonic characteristics pretty much complementary to the other's.
GREAT demo! Some time ago, I switched out two of the V30s for two K100s in my MESA cab and it made a huge difference in how awesome it sounds. At the time, I tried to decide which speaker sounded "better" but concluded - as here - that it was the combination of the two different speakers that just made it sound kick ass.
Both are great!
Excellent review. Well done. Wonderful host.
That is one cool Guitar. Love it man.
Hey Fluff, I would just like to say congratulations on that Sleep City EP. It sounds great :)
I think I know how I'm going to re-up my cabs sound, thanks x pattern just like here, nice blend!
best comparison video of any kind, kudos on such a sweet presentation. I'd probably pick the V type because I can always remove some highs, hard to add them if the speaker can't play them.
each by themselves didn't really tickle my fancy - but together they sound fantastic. thanks for the great demo.
Mission accomplished ...flawless comparison. BOTH sound mighty beefy and snarly.
Let me start by saying both speakers have amazing qualities but the star of that video was you your excellent player and when you play your passion shows through. And you did incredible demoing those speakers for the General Public. Thank you
You can tell the A Type has a softer attack and feel, especially in lower strings. I bet the v-type would match up well with a creamback too
The V outshines the A by a good measure whilst together they fit quite nicely.
Combined setup sounds great. Nice comparison Fluff =)
You never really get to hear a difference in an AB on RUclips but this one you really can. I think you're spot on about mixing the two although I did like the V slightly more than the A in separation. I'd like to hear this with something running a P90, I really like the snarl.
excellent video I would like to know how you connect them since they are dr different watts
Got a new bassbreaker 30,,,comes with V-Type. waiting on a custom 1x12 as we speak putting an A-Type in that one. Hoping for a similar effect.
Great vid , I wanna mismatch an a-type with a creamback 65 and can’t find any vids of the drivers together - till now !
*I hate the feeling of reeeeeguuuulaaaariiitey*
It never sat well with meeeeeeeeeee
I completely agree with you fluff both is definitely the way to go
Hey fluff! I really liked the ep. I kind of want to figure out some of the riffs, what were you tuned to?
Nice to see the 6505. Was recently wondering if you still had one.
Please do more speaker comparisons!
I thought both sounded great but the V edged it. Both together was the ticket. Esp when you think most won't downtune, so the A may be fizzeh in E.
Wow! Never gave them much thought. Both sound killer. Paired up sound the best, hands down. Fluff, considered doing a WGS speaker shootout? Love your videos, keep it up.
In agree man Celestion V type, very versatile speaker on clean and crunch get well.congratulations. great comparison and chords of course awesome
I just wanted to stop and give you a compliment on the new Rest, Repose EP.. It sounds amazing! Going to pick it up on amazon immediately. I hope one day you and your bandmates can find Birmingham, Al.
I like the V-Type much more than the A-Type. However the combination of both sure sounds great.
Currently I have a 2x12" box with 2 Vintage 30s but I think I will try the WGS Retro 30/ET-65 Combo soon. Think this will work way better for the sound I'm looking for. Also fairly inexpensive.
thanks for sharing! i came here exclusively to read this comment about your expressed feelings of things you wish to achieve.
A type is more clear sounding but yeah they sound great together.
The Generator!!! fav track !!
V>A, (V+A)>(V-A)
Perfect way to describe it.
+tempjohn1111 but what if speed of light is not considered a constant? what happens then?
+Jack Smith The formula doesn't conflate electromagnetic constants with the variables of acoustic energy.
my hat is tipped sir, that is the best reply i think possible :D
+tempjohn1111 so.. (V+A) > V > A
VEry usefull to me Thanks Mr Fluff :)
This might be somewhat obvious considering the names of each but I feel the V Type is more vintage voiced and therefore lends itself to British style high gain stuff, like Orange amps, whereas the A type sounds much grittier and I wanna say "chewier" and would suit that tighter more scooped American high gain sound like a Peavey or a Mesa more but that's just me
Best sound is when they're together. My primary 4x12 has Vintage 30's and Classic Lead 80's in an "X" formation and it's by far the best cab I've ever played out of.
Damn that's a great song!
Great video, but did you ever finish painting that wall?
Thanks for this informative video Ryan. Do you think the V Type is a good fit for the Blackstar HT 20 combo? I've gone back and forth between the V Type, Neo Creamback, and WGS Reaper. I keep coming back to the V type. I would like to be able to get a nice, chimey clean sound, as well as crunchy hard rock. Thanks in advance for any advice.
This is what I love about fluff, a no bs "This is how it do, make up your own mind" style
Together they sound great, but if I had to choose one I would go with the V type
hey Fluff, I'm thinking of changing the speaker in my 5w valve 1x12 combo to beef it up a bit. I play mainly metal but some other stuff too. would the v type be a good candidate???
I'm with you. I'd like a 4 - 12 Cab with a mix of both speakers. Great sound..
I have both. Bought the V first and played it for months with a Laney IronHeart. Great speaker, but after a while my ear started to fixate on a certain nasal quality that the speaker had in high gain settings. I couldn't EQ it out. I bought the A-type and problem solved, but it was slightly muddier than the V-type. I prefer the A-type but both together is ideal.
great song
Have the VT-JR. in My 77’ Peavey Backstage 30 haven’t tested it yet.
Hi Fluff! How do you go about mixing this two speaker set up? Do you EQ them seperately and finetune the comebined signal or do you go back and forth until the combination sounds just right? Cheers
I like the combo of both best
Great video Fluff! What are you're thoughts on Eminence?
WOW went you combine both sounds amazing 👍👍👍👍👍great player
Metal stance.
Great demo as always. Killer tune. For recording I use a mesa UK v30 and a Creamback. Absolutely love the UK v30 but still haven't figured out the Creamback. It gets really tubby.... And the bottom just falls apart. That V type might be a good replacement.
It sounds like A has an aggressive mid-range boost, but it seems to lack in top end compared to the V.
Any idea when we might see some previews of you upcoming signature guitar fluff?
Great sounds but not sure these speakers were designed with metal in mind?
Hey, nice vid! Can you can try both (A-type + V-type) vs V30?
Individually I found both of them lacking in some areas, but the V was better imo. The combination of both was SICK though!
i just bought an A-type 50w pre-owned for my line 6 cab.
that a smooth combination. they match so well together is hard to like pne verse the other. it's similar to GT75 and V30 cross imo
Love the new opening with the transitions. As far as the celestions, the v definitely sounded better IMO.
v for me. Nice playing, sounded killer.
I want that Mesa 2x12 with one of each loaded.
killer riffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I they sounded best together, they both have qualities that I liked, but also parts I didn't like, but together they blended and sounded good overall!
Damn that Riff.Dam that river.
