    MOD 12(70) & BlackBird 100 are very very interesting and good sounding speakers.
    The Stealth one sounds nice at the "first sight" but the highs are too "hard", imagine listening something like this with a proper volume (even with some monitors that use neodymium), this is the typical neodymium sound, that can bring tinnitus for everyone and that feeling of a internal ear bleeding.

    I've watched these for so many different styles and genres, and it's amazing how Blackbird always sounds stellar, no matter what you're playing through it. It costs twice as much as any other speaker, but it does seem like it has no weaknesses at all, so it might save you money in the long run. It'd be really interesting to mix a dark speaker like a Jet Tornado with a very clear sounding speaker like a P12N to get a finished tone. Or you could just use a Blackbird and already have the perfect mix. Heh.

It was the only thing I felt sounded really good/right with the it. I have a couple single 8 ohm blackbirds, and one 2x12 cab with a pair of 16 ohms in parallel. Overall my favorite speaker, and I've tried a LOT of speakers. They also make a 40W blackbird 12" and it's similarly voiced except not as fat/not as much low end, and costs $195 vs $318 (current prices. I didn't pay that for any of mine.)

    At first I really liked the Jensen MOD 12-70, but when you compare it with the others is when you notice a sort of fizzy, staticky harshness it has (at least with that much gain for Modern Metal) that the other speakers seem darker and tend do smooth that harshness out. Still sounds dynamic and probably sounds a lot better with less gain. Or a tubescreamer would probably tighten up the harshness and lower the treble and mids on the amp as well. I’ve been thinking about swapping out the crappy stock 8” speaker in my combo amp at home with a Jensen MOD 10-50 10” speaker because I’ve heard it makes a huge difference for others who have done similar instead of giving up on the amp. I assume the Jensen Mod 12-70 sounds similar to the 10-50 which is why I was curious about this video. Thank you for posting!

    I bought a Jensen C12 Nighthawk after listening to sound demos on RUclips. I have original 1970's Rola/Cestion Greenbacks. I have always wanted a similar, if not the same sounding, replacement speaker. This is the closest I have got. The Nighthawk doesn't mask or exaggerate any tones. It picks up on all picking and tonal nuances while still having some growl and bite to it. The modern day Celestion Greenbacks sound like a cheap fuzzy, treble-rich speaker. Jensen claimed that over time, the glue that binds with the cone deteriorates, giving it that particular tone. Well, I don't have 50 years time to wait for new Greenbacks to deteriorate. Get a Nighthawk now. It's the closest I found!

    • @olivierdegeoffroy
      @olivierdegeoffroy  5 лет назад

      Hi Jamie. Nice to know that the nightawk is close to a good vintage greenback. They are not exactly the same technically : The Greenback voice coil is made with Kraft paper whereas the Nighthawk former is made with Fiberglass. this is why oou can reach a good 75 watts with it. The magnet is the equivalent to a G12H (51 oz). Chineese GB are also a bit different than the UK production, more tight and powerfull, less subtil. And the strenght of the magnet go away after time. Cheers.

    The P12N sounds the best to my ears. I own a pair of two P12Q speakers and I'm really happy with them. The only difference with the P12Ns and the P12Qs is the sensivity and the output wattage, I think? There are no speakers that can beat alnico ones. I tried many brands and models. The only Celestion speaker that worth the price is the G12-65. The Vintage 30 is the worst Made in China crap I've ever tried!

      Hi Paul. Take care about the "Nominal Voice Coil Diameter" and the "Magnet Weight" for P12N/P12Q. The Greenback G12M and the Celestion blue worst a try if you like theses.
