@IM-ON-RUMBLE cooL. what speakers are you using? i am like the WGS speakers not in the test. on my TV and i do not have the remote for the eq settings as they are offly adjusted. the dv77 sounded great with metal tone. i really like the detail in the altec it has these great layers to it of dimensionality. Like that rich top layer in the highs bringing out detail throughout the low and mids with a bit of stringy hair in there, that was awesome inspiring. i am just think the mids have that sort of almost hollowing sound, although it is quite subdued and sounds really nice still. The webers ever so slightly have that mid howl also yet it is so distant and quiet it belongs there and in the altec..
I'm debating on the silver or grey wolf for my 2x12 mesa cab. I personally dont like mixing speakers. I like some speaker combos but I'm more of an all or nothing kind of person lol. I'm either going for THE tone of a particular speaker or I'm not if that makes sense.
@@mikekashouty516 Opt for the Silver Wolf, it's the most balanced sounding out of the two. The Grey Wolf is an extremely aggressive speaker, it's even brighter than the Vintage 30.
@@mikekashouty516 My old bandmate uses the Silverwolf with his Rockerverb, it sounds perfect with that amp. It's as if the speaker was made for Rockerverb.
Best high-gain speaker comparison video out there. Thank you! Hard to pick a favorite. Depends on my mood. But I gravitate toward the DV-77, Fane F70, and Mojo Tone.
The Silver Wolf sounded the best to my ears. Aggressive, but clear and very balanced. I enjoyed all the Webers, but this was my favorite of the bunch. Although, the Mojotone was also great.
One thing I have noticed about the Silver Wolf is that it sounds like it was voiced for the Mesa/Boogie Rectifier. It's voiced very similar to the made in U.K. Vintage 30 used by Mesa in the Recto cabs. But then it has a fuller and clearer mid-range to compensate for the lack of mid-range on the Rectifier. It also has far better clarity in the low-end and high-end compared to the Vintage 30, due to that it handles the bass-heavy low-end and shrieky top-end of the Rectifier better than the Vintage 30. I think its higher power handling has a lot to do with its qualities.
Thanks for this! I have the Silver and Grey Wolf combo in two of my cabinets and i really really like them. Totally underrated speaker. I was looking into the DV 77 and tbh i'm liking all of these tones. Also, nice riff!
V30: Balanced, Aggressive and bright, a bit thin in the mids BOODHOUND: Similar to the V30 but bigger sounding GREY WOLF: Very balanced and bright, not too much body and grit SILVER WOLF: Bigger sounding then the GREYWOLF but less open HESU: Super bright and tight but thin in the mids DV77: Very balanced and tight, not too much bite and grit ALTEC: Very big sounding and gritty, with extended highs SWAMP THANG: Big and thight, balanced with lots of bite MOJOTONE, Balanced, a bit thin in the mids SCUMBACK: Balanced and bright with grit, not too much body and lows FANE F70: Biggest sounding in the mids and low mids, great bite, Highs a bit rolled off At least to my ears!!
@@SeacowCabs My favourite speaker is the Eminence Swamp thang! Second here is the Fane F70, I think every speaker in this video sounds quite good, I don't like very much the Hesu
Good to Weber getting some love, as they are too underrated, and often ignored. I prefer the 15" Wolverine, and Werewolf. I will be buying some Bloodhounds soon.
It's like picking what flavor of ice cream you like! Depending on what you are playing and the sound you're going for many of the these speakers would work or sound great!
Sounds great really in your face and direct, I like the weber stuff has a cool flavour to it, the grey wolf sounds like an alnico blue crossed with a v30 but a bit scooped it's cool. I like the dv77 too it has this vintage vibe but is really nice and thick.
The Silver Wolf sounds like a clearer and bigger Vintage 30. I use them with my Triple Rectifier, they just work better with that amp than the Vintage 30.
Great video. I like the Weber Black Shucks best, but I might be biased because that’s what I run. The Demon, scum back, Fane and DV77 sound fantastic though.
What amp are you running with the black shucks? Do you have any issues with the top end sounding dull or muffled? I really like the sound of them and am thinking of combining them with the gray wolf in a 412 (2 of each) to use with my 6505
Best for the type of music in the demo was the Eminence DV77 follwed by the Swampthing. Unsuited to the music, but the best sounding speakers of the bunch IMO are the Fane followed by the Mojotone. But then they're both designed to be old-school rock speakers rather than metal ones.
Vintage 30: 0:20 Sounds modern but kinda unrefined. Silver Wolf: 1:40 Sounds modern, balanced, clear, and very polished. For a modern metal mix where I need an aggressive but still very polished and balanced sound, I would choose the Silver Wolf. It cuts through the mix like a Vintage 30 but at the same time, it somehow maintains a nice fullness to its sound. They are not worlds apart in terms of tonality but the clarity & fullness in the mid-range, and the excellent clarity in the low-end & high-end response do make the Silver Wolf sound better than the Vintage 30 in the mix.
In my opinion, the Hesu Demon is the perfect metal speaker. It's perfect for every tuning, and it's high-end can easily be tamed with a Low-Pass or by blending it with another speaker (I find the DV77 works best.)
Interesting, I’m finding the silver wolf and the fane to be my favorites. Dv-77 not far behind. The silver wolf is just so pleasing to my ears and the fane has something a little extra and interesting going on.
Digging the Fane and the Mojo BV30H with their more classic rock type midrange and smooth top end, with the edge given to the Fanes. I have a set of 70s G12H Black Backs that just rule, and I think the Fanes would be a good pairing, but sadly, they only come in 8ohm, so I'm probably going to go Mojo.
Fantastic video, really helpful to me. I would love to see this video revisited with a couple more speakers. The electro voice evm12l and celestion redback come to mind, plus maybe a couple more from the eminence patriot series.

@@zAvAvAz The Invader 50 has a very pronounced mid-range that sometimes doesn't work well with all amps. It's like a weird mix of Vintage 30, Greenback and Classic Lead 80. Not as aggressive as the G12H Anniversary but not as smooth as the G12H Heritage either. It's kinda meh. The Reaper HP 50 just fails to do what it claims. It's supposed to be a warmer sounding take on the G12H30, but to be honest it just sounds like a G12H Anniversary which is less than ideal for high gain tones. That being said, it mixes really well with the Chinese Celestion Vintage 30 used in Orange cabs.
@@TheNocturnalEvil If you want an enhanced version of the G12H30 and G12H the reaper and reaper HP50 are good alternative sounds with high gain being ideaL.
