Excellent! I was looking for the ascending line during the A Maj chord in the chorus. I've seen four different people play it four different ways and your version sounds right and you explain it better than anyone else. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Keep on playing!
I really appreciate the way you go over the sections several times rather than only once. At my level I need that and it saves me from having to back up the video multiple times. This is a comprehensive lesson.
Every morning I get up early so I can play before I get ready for work. I’m 67 and shouldn’t be working, but that’s another story. The point is, every morning I try to learn something new. A few weeks ago I discovered this series. Now, every morning I learn something new with you. Thank you.
I admire how you do these videos in one take. I'm learning so much from you. Thanks, Angela.
Hello,I thank you very much for your accurate guitar lesson. This song is one of my favourite.I still remember the first time I listened to Tom Petty's music, back in 1984 during a wonderful summer spent in Placerville, California.Greetings from Italy, the country where I was born.
As as guy who loves RUclips and guitar... I must say these lessons are some of the best song lessons out there. Thank you Fishman and Angela!!! Well done! Keep them coming!
Love this whole series. The songs you are covering every week are just excellent. Great taste in music.
Bravo Miss, with your in-depth lessons, you'll make me seem a
way better guitarist than I truly am, and I truly am becoming better
and for that, along with practice on my end, thank you
It is my pleasure. Thank you for the kind words. Keep at it!!!!
One of my favorites too. Thanks for all you do! You're amazing 👏
Thanks so much. Been playing this song for at least 20 years but never got the strum pattern down. Your presentation is great.
Portland, Oregon. "You Don't Know How It Feels", but this song is close, it's just right there, no ... well ... maybe it is this song; I remember I dropped what I was doing and drove down to buy the CD first time I heard this on the radio.
Just bought an ESP LTD thinline 12 string with Fishman electronics and the Sonicore under-saddle pickup. I'm in LOVE with it.
Your lessons are always informative and explained in great fashion.
Keep up the great work Angela!!
Thank you Claude!
I just found this and you...love both. Been through several Petty tune lessons. I really like your feel, your style, your groove. And really dig how you teach...
Didn’t catch this video live, but thanks for sharing! I’m watching from Loveland, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati. My favorite Tom Petty song is Into the Great Wide Open…
Nice feel and touch,I am impressed....a natural teacher...well no a gifted teacher...well both...love the groove,
Hey Angela
You are a great instructor! Thank you for spending your valuable time to help me get the song right.

Cheers every one from London!
I love this song! I was driving to see my dad for the first time in a year while the lesson was on but I have brought a guitar with me so will give it a go over the next dew days :-)
She grew up in the Indiana town had a good looking mom who never was around, but she grew up tall and she grew up right with the Indiana boys on the Indiana nights.
Great lesson thanks for covering this
Newcastle, Australia. Free Fallin'. Learning To Fly - oh, that's two. Mike Campbell a smokin' guitar player.
Great tutorial, i'm from the UK ( England) please keep posting, esp all the classics 😊
Watching from Gainesville, Florida: Home of Tom and most of the Heartbreakers. This is my favorite song of theirs. I usually play it on a 12 string acoustic, but it is fun on any guitar. First time I've seen your channel. Very nice.
Thanks for tuning in! Be sure to subscribe for more!
ive watched a few videos for this song and struggle with the strumming pattern - i can already tell this is the video im going to figure it out on.
Thanks - from Texas
Thank you Angela. Your lesson is amazing. I'm not there yet but thankfully I can keep coming back to progress!!! :)
Awesome!
St Charles MO
I’ve learned a lot from your lessons
Thank you😊
Hi Angela, thank you for sharing yet another great lesson. I'm grateful to be learning very much from you. You're a mighty fine artist, guitarist and teacher. Please, please can we have a lesson on your version of Tennessee Whiskey like the one you did on RUclips with your beautiful HSS black strat with rosewood fretboard. Thank you again for sharing this lesson, I particularly liked the solos.
🎸🤠
Love your playing and knowledge of these great tunes.
Cleveland ohio
in your lessons it feels that you are right there. great job! and i like goofy faces too!
This was great!
Thank You Angela Petrilli - From the Morris/Roberts Group - You Rock -
Thank you! Can you please do a lesson on Tom Petty's, A Higher Place? I love the way you break the songs down, and the way you explain the leads. Can't wait! Thanks!
Thanks for the shout out at 4:27. Really enjoy these lessons. Thanks to you and Fishman. ( also love my loud box artist).
🇨🇭🎸. You also need to breakdown “breakdown” ( Am and G!)
Tempe Arizona and fav Petty tune is Breakdown!!! 😀
Good lesson! Such simple chords but all the nuances make it a great song. I play acoustic but will try to add a few of the embellishments on the Amaj chorus. I’m also working on the harmonica parts….. thanks!
Loved this lesson so much I thought I'd comment again as it might help the algorithm just a little bit. 🎸🤠
Diggin' it from Hampstead, NC
I thank you and kindly greet you from 🇮🇹 Italy
Tx, very helpful!
Great Lesson Good Info. thanks. Always a Tom Petty fan.
Love how you teach!!!!!
Thanks Dale!
really good lesson!
Glad it was helpful!
Always learn something new watching you. Thanks honey.
Again, as a solo acoustic guitarist, I knew the chords to the basic song. I do the ascending A riff in the chorus on the D - G and B strings… It works fairly good. I have a “solo” that I do on the acoustic guitar, but not very great. I’ll be able to incorporate the solos you have into my acoustic version by throwing in the Am and G chords up the neck. Thanks for this arrangement.
Loved this .. I see this was 2 years ago .. Wow I hope you are still here ..
Great rhythm feel , good player.. 😉👌
Thank you
Awesome lesson video! I like how you explain things in detail. Where do you have the pickup selector?
Love the sound of The Heartbreakers
Good to see you back. You are a very good teacher!!one request can you please play each part through before picking it apart. Even if you make mistakes which BTW is encouraging me!!

Nice I like your slow approach for learning for beginners I tried other ones and they kind go threw stuff alittle faster it be nice if ya could throw up what your doing in the corner like a tab and the down and up strokes for people that like seeing tabs ..but other then that great lesson..
Hi Angela. I am writing from Santa Cruz, Ca. Favorite Tom Petty song? Even the Losers or Don’t Fade on Me. Thanks for the lesson. Bud.
a guitar hero covering a guitar hero! doesnt get better than that
Good lesson teacher one question I would like to have classes with you wich is the best way to communicate with you
Mike... Johnstown Pa. Could you do a video lesson on Texas Flood?
Omg! I just ate a spam egg and cheese sandwich on grilled wheat❤ while watching this. Gonna wash my hands and play this song.
I think it would be good to note that the studio recording is in non-standard tuning ( i.e. A = 432 Hz ) , so if you want to play along with the recording you should re-tune your guitar so it matches A = 432. There is a video on RUclips where the poster has already converted the song to 440 Hz for our convenience.
I’m just now trying to learn the guitar and songs always popping in my head
Free falling is one of my favorites and didn’t even know it was Tom petty
Kinda petty huh😂straight from okc!!
Great tutorial, I’m still struggling with that open d, Dsus-D -Dsus part and the hammer on. Where exactly is the hammer part?
This is actually my favorite Tom Petty song, not a big fan of his but this is a great song. Plus Kim Basinger was in the video.
She should be a movie star
Can you Travis pick on an acoustic guitar? And do you do any lessons that require Travispicking?
Running down a dream
You are remind me so much of my Daughter Amanda Belerose.

I learn more from the Lady teachers, it seems like the lady teachers admit to know less, but they understand "more" which makes them better teachers!
what bpm are you playing it in
Would you do funk 49 ?
Song was recorded in 453 Hertz tunning . Not 440 .
How do you play the song Tom Petty last dance by Tom Petty last night
