TP & The Heartbreakers songs all sound so straight forward and simple. Then I try to learn them and I realize how there are tons of little extras and nuances thrown in that really do "make" the song! And make it difficult to figure out how to play it right. TP is right up there with Chris Cornell, SRV, and Eddie Vedder, and Led Zepplin in my book of great song writers and crafty singers. He's been my all time favorite for years now. Such a genius at song crafting. I thank you once again for making a video that us both fun to watch and makes me feel like I can be able to actually play another song accurately! I really appreciate your lessons! And your positive vibe and mix of humor and humility make you a fun instructor. Keep up the good work! I still say you're one top notch instructor.
crafty is a perfect word Yep - thanks for all that, I'm so happy you find my work helpful!
Most underrated American rock musician of all time.
No kidding! I'm learning ukulele. My first instrument. Picked it up July 2020.
Often turn to guitar instructions. The chords /strumming patterns are the same. As I learn Petty songs I think of the line "She had a guitar and he taught him some chords" from into "Great Wide Open"... Tom &Heartbreakers 💘🎩🎸make it look effortless. You'd think a uke would be simple but to put a nice uke spin on it you got to find the right groove. I guess you just got to put on that party dress and keep strumming away till it you get it right. Thanks Ryan for this video very helpful!
Dang. Ryan. Another really accurate and accessible explanation of a masterpiece.
Revisiting all of the videos I learned but forgot to like, You the man Ryan !!
Love this man!!
I’m going to be playing a gig and I wanna ad this to the setlist! So glad u covered it
wah freaking hoo! we must have some kind of astral connection going... at least in that moment :)
You the man Ryan...drop the Mic! I’ve been watching your videos for a few months and it’s really made it fun to play guitar again while trying to take it to another level . Playing is fun again. Love the little side notes that you add with your tutorials that are never included with the online tabs that make the song sound like the original recording. You’re an amazing musician...keep it going!
you're kind shannon. thank you for taking the time, and for spending the time :)
Another example of just how fuckin Amazing TP was. Still saddens me to type “was”. Great job Ryan.
I wholeheartedly agree with those sentiments :) Thanks Nick! (still not moved in...)
Ryan Lendt start looking for a studio somewhere between us! (Like you’re not busy enough)
Ryan this is super as you explain those A triads in the shapes of other chords! That's how I learn these songs. I must say I find your videos the most intuitive for campfire geetah players like myself. Keep up these superb vids!
thanks for that chris!
Fabulous lesson - full of great tips 🎸🎸👏👏
why thank you keith :)
Best explanation and demo of the rhythm for Mary Jane’s Last Dance. Bravo! Great job!
why thank you Buda :)
yo isnt an Em7 in the chorus?
Cool vibes.
stacy's dad is getting really mad :)
I knew it! You are watching, that explains so much🤪. Petty has been the author of a few of my summer soundtracks throughout the years, always a good time for Petty. Thanks for breaking this one down into achievable levels. \m/
yeah and stop wearing those granny panties it's creepy. teehee you're welcome Kevin :)
Great lesson. Tom Petty songs do a lot with a little. 👍
well said Troy. that's what I should have said. I'm going to say that next time.
your instruction is top notch!
thanks G!
Excellent! Thank you!
thanks! welcome!
So glad I found you!

You got yourself a sub, sir! Great work! \m/

...and subbed! Great lesson thank you!
you're very welcome Kevin, thanks for hanging out!
Thanks so much, great video!
thanks Stefan!
thanks Stefan!
I intend to make a real concerted effort to learn more guitar stuff when winter moves in this year. Been looking at different dudes (and gals) to learn from. Some just like to hear themselves a yapping, others like to re-invent the damn geetar, others are good, too. I like this guy because I’m thinking he can help me get a notch or two better with his simple style and knowledge of how notes work within chords. We’ll see, I reckon!
godspeed mark!
I think I'm starting to feel how the people who saw Bob Dylan go electric for the first time at that folk festival felt, but the opposite. I just got a new Flying V, I need to rock! \m/
1) thank you for even mentioning me and Bob in the same sentence
2) oh my god me too... just a few more days... congrats on your V!!
"You're the best, we're the best" Enough said hahaha
I was mostly talking to you :P
Awesome. BTW Ryan brother, where are your electrics ? I'm dying to get an electric lesson of yours. Probably some PJ or Alice in chains
they're in the moving truck! argh! I can't wait either. They'll be back in action this weekend :)
Amazing lesson!!! Thanks. Now SOLO SOLO SOLO SOLO SOLO .....PLEASE!
oh wow ok! I'm glad you liked it Rudy :) gotta do more petty... thanks for the nudge!
You are good dude..
Thanks MK! I bet you are too. You may submit proof to PO Box 332 Arlington TX 67532
Ryan Lendt 😂😂
Ryan, In the chorus I'm not hearing a straight Am, I'm hearing an open b string. not sure if its another guitar or an overdub. Is somebody maybe doing a hammer on from the open b to the b 3rd fret. Try it and tell me what you think. BTW I love Tom Petty. You should do more lessons. They are great simple songs to teach and he has a massive library to choose from. Very fun to play.
I just gave the first chorus another listen, and while I'm not hearing the Asus2 (A with the open B string) Asus2 is awfully interchangeable with A (like almost always) and perhaps you're hearing what you want to hear :) in which case you should do it that way. that's a nice way to do it!
oh and I'd love to do more petty - which one should I do next??
Funny you should mention that but I was thinking maybe it was what I thought fit better not what I was actually hearing. That Asus2 fits awfully well when I play along to the song almost like it should be there. Playing the A there is like eating a hotdog with nothing on it. DRY. Btw I just found a lesson were the guy was playing an A7 instead of the A so apparently I'm not the only one hearing wrong.
"I Should Have Known It". I'm having trouble with the tuning. particularly from this video. ruclips.net/video/3_iBKacXIA4/видео.html
What model Taylor is that? Great job BTW.
410ce... thanks!
Could you do u get me high by Tom.
thanks for the idea BC!
I love the sound and the fullness of 452 hz, but it really messes with my pitch:( ironically this song and Acoustic no. 1 are my 2 favorite songs to play
THAT'S FUNNY! you must just really like 452hz :)
Don't forget right hand palm muting, it makes a huge difference to the authentic style of the guitar part.
It's not hard to teach for nubies
thanks for chiming in Jason :)
Ryan could you does wildflowers by Petty?
YES
intended emphatically not angrily :)
Sweet. Thanks!
The ease at which you play these songs ....🙈

(that was cortland)
and hello to you Cortland ... doiaoeijceajel//[[] :-)
I always played em7 and a7 in the chorus
I just gave it another listen and I'm definitely hearing regular Em, and regular A - but having said that your way is just great too as the chords are roughly interchangeable
Ryan Lendt I wholeheartedly believe anything you say when it comes to guitar.
How have I not learned this one. I love learning Tom Petty. Oh by the way speaking of diffetent frequency’s. Do you know about the solfeggio frequency’s. Plus about 440hz which is standered turning now. But it used to be 432hz from what I have read. There is a big Conspircy around the reason it was changed. It’s pretty interesting actually! Lol
I would like to hear more about this conspiracy... can you direct me please?
Yea it’s really interesting. I will find a link that I have saved that good. Yea apperently prince and some other musicians would tune at 432hz all their music. You can not really tell much of a difference by ear. It’s about what 440 does to the body as opposed to what 432 does. 432 is one of the solfeggio frequencies that is considered a healing frequency. I mentioned Cymatics to you before?
Here is pretty good article in this. It gets into the Conspircy a little further down the article . Of course the rabbit hole gets deeper as you look more into it. But here is a good start. globalnews.ca/news/4194106/440-hz-conspiracy-music/
Its got the Nazis, The Rockerfellers. All the usually suspects. Lol
The guy who wrote this used to work for Dallas local alternative station. Been around since I was 14. It’s actually a really good one. I listen to all the solffegio frequency’s while I sleep. The results have been phenomenal. I have been doing for about 2 years.
it's e minor 7th in the chouus.
thanks mate
OTHERSIDE BY RHCP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plz
😁
yay! I love that one. double yay!
It's all about the Bass.... please add some bass lines when your gear arrives.... petty please... hee hee petty ... get it..

Didnt know you were a Petty fan
oh yes. very much so :)
Forgot to buy sun lotion?

Nice Taylor :) what model? Sorry, I have to be that guy

You remind me of Jon lajoie
is he related to john larroquette?
Are you sure this isn't a Dani California lesson you mislabeled? ;)
very funny :) the D in Dani California is minor :)
Ryan Lendt couldn't help myself. Sorry
land...ire...
i don't follow
The first minute 7 hurts.....
Almost lost interest until you played at full speed. Good lesson
Sorry but I’m one of those few who hate hearing the down up down up up up down etc explanation when its best to hear by ear (at least by me).
