I was growing up in a musician's home so I was destined to pick up an instrument or two, but wasn't moved by the stuff my parents were playing, so I didn't start playing until age 6. At 6 years old, my dad recorded a crummy VHS live recording of ten summoners tales, where sting wore this unforgettable fluorescent gold silk shirt. I have never watched an interview where the musician starts playing, and creates a perfect bubble of silence... it's like the rest of your day falls away and all you are left with is pure wonder. Amazing. I think this feels mostly down to what Dominic is "not" playing - he leaves each note in its own space, with its own importance and weight, the right amount of respect for every single brush or pluck or slide... amazing interview, amazing guitarist
Rick (and guests) just keep rising to new heights every time. This channel is such a treasure; there's nothing else with this level of quality on youtube or TV. Nothing.
It really is a treat every time, regardless of your personal tastes. I love all kinds of music but Rick has introduced me to so many artists and opened up music I had ignored. Thank you Rick ❤
At the age of 77 you don't think you can be educated, how wrong can you be. I have just spent the most enjoyable time listening to you interview Dominic Miller who I admit I wasn't aware of and what have I missed. Sir, you are an absolute master at what you do, and Dominic is a superb guitarist and such a humble person. Thank you so much from the UK.
Rick is one of the few people who can interview legends and not come across as awkward, stiff, or interrupting. He deserves all the success on this channel. Love this interview as much as the others. Great watch and listen!
OMG. His transcriptions of "your song" and "winner takes a fall" had me in tears. Such beauty. He slowed down the notes and it took on a new life. He's a genius.
Arguably your greatest interview yet. What a charming, warm, smart, talented, interesting, humble, wonderful man. And you conducted your interview perfectly, letting Dominic go... letting him teach and recall and PLAY. Thanks for hitting it out of the park yet again, Rick.
@@joaoferesjunior6734 No, he is a really warm person. That is obvious to anyone who has been to his gig. Dominic is a really great musician and such a great career, but he still cares about each and every one of his fans. If you question that, go to his gigs and talk to him. And his kindness is clearly reflected in the sound of his guitar.
Great interview! However, if you say it's the best, I have to kindly disagree. The interview with Pat Metheny is difficult to beat. Anyway, I fully agree with the comments about Dominic being such a nice person, and the interview is really great
That moment when it's just 2 guys enjoying the sound of guitar. They could be anywhere, but at the root of it, it's all about the feeling you get when music fills you. Dom obviously gets it. Rick gets it. Rick there have been many who have graced your presence, and I don't doubt there will be many more. There are all kinds of interviews out there but it's very rare that the interviewee is mutually excited to sit down and talk shop. Not surface level shop, real nuts and bolts. thank you.
I love when Dominic is playing and a certain harmony makes him smile. Music clearly brings him joy. It's wonderful that he wants to share the ability to create such music with others.
@@BuddieOLLi The other person who comes to mind is Tommy Emmanuel. I love when he's playing a guitar arrangement of a song and he can't help but sing along. Watching him playing Nirvana with Mike Dawes and clearly having a blast, always makes me smile.
Dominic Miller interviews himself, answering questions he hasn't been asked. Rick Beato just lets the stream of consciousness meander along without him interrupting. Great stuff. DM's Amsterdam meetup with "that Dutch RUclipsr", when he teaches Paul Davids to play bossa nova, is also well worth watching.
Also, "That Dutch RUclipsr" does not say "the guy who plays it live"...he refers to DM by name and also says that DM wrote the song in the video. But it does make for a good laugh in this video.
Watch how many times he runs through the main progression of Shape of My Heart throughout the video - every time he plays it with reverence, even if the point is to get to the next part, he doesn't rush through the chords, he plays it all. I love that. This is perhaps the most enjoyable hour I have ever spent on RUclips. Thank you Rick and Dominic!
Reverence is the best word possible. He's a purist in terms of musicianship, emotion, story. Really appreciate that he never short-cut it and let every song make it's statement.
Playing one of the most beautiful songs in the world, turning to one specific chord, looking to Rick and saying, "I think that's right" with a smile and going on. That moment broke me. What a friendly person.
Rick responding "yeah" as well! One word, but it made me chuckle: that tone in his voice is part exclamation, part laugh, part reassurance, part question ("you're not sure?"/"You should care what I think?"). I think Rick is a successful interviewer because when he talks to musicians, producers etc, they know they can communicate with him and he understands them on every level. This was highly enjoyable because it's two guys just relaxing and really opening up to to each other.
“I’m not that great a guitarist”😮He has the only thing that’s important, and in spades, he can convey what is touching his heart, straight to yours. I’ve rarely been moved so much as I was listening to Dominic playing “Your song”. “The Soul Cages” is possibly Sting’s best album. Dominic’s playing is stellar throughout. Sting chose him to play in his band .. that’s how good he is. 😀
Theres a difference of being a great guitarist and a great artist. and than occasionally you get someone who is both like mike dawes and tommy emmanuel.
Miller is a genius...he makes it look simple. His explanation makes the riff seem like 'of course playing it slowly makes this so easy'. Only a handful of people in the world can make such inspired tonation seem matter-of-fact.
I saw this was over an hour long and I thought, I know I don't have the stamina for this. I'll watch a few minutes, see what the riff was, and maybe come back to it later. I could *not* leave once I'd started! Wonderful interview, beautiful music, enlightening and inspiring. Thank you both!!!!
Personally, I think this kind of interviewing is the start of something big! The sound quality is absolutely stunning? The playing equally so... but damn what an amazing video! Well done to Rick and his team.
What a treat to listen to Dominic share His thoughts and play so freely. A true gentleman and tremendous musician. Thank you Dominic, and thank you Rick!
Dominic `s so humble : "I`m not that great a player" , Oh mate ! You are a great player , musician , arranger , composer , writer . Thankyou for the joy you bring .
I feel both ashamed for not knowing who Dominic was but also blessed to be able to explore his catalog. What a wonderful and humble human being and musician. Amazing interview!
I am a 74 yo raised on rock and roll. Band organist and lead vocal late 1960s to early 70s. Didn’t know the name Dominic Miller. I do now. He is amazing. Great interview Rick
And again: You have listened to his solo work on ECM? (I am just continuing to write here this under comments, promoting his work, because I hear his solo stuff for years now and I am really happy that through this he got attention to a wider audience.)
Agreed. We were blown away by his humility. So secure in who he is but an amazing musician. I’m sad I didn’t know who he was on his own. We got such a kick out of Rick fan-boying and NO one would fault him. When you are in the presence of greatness it is best to be quiet. 😊

So now we need Dominic to be a "RUclips Teacher", and do video tutorials all his arranged songs from his new book! Shout out to Paul Davids too, who must be the guy he mentioned, a really nice person and great teacher! Thank you Rick for another great interview!
Yup, I went and looked up the video. Paul actually gives credit to Dominic and mentions his name several times in his video. And talks about the difficulty of the riff despite the seeming simplicity. Not sure why Dominic took that personally. 2.5M views of Paul teaching people this song can only be good for Dominic and Sting, but I'm just a guy sitting on his computer with no diamonds for my art, that's not the shape of my... sorry, lost track of myself there.
@@adameden8722Could almost hear you singing it. 😀 I don't think you quite got what Dom meant in regards to taking it personally. I like Paul's channel, but no disrespect to him, or you. I think Sting and Dom were doing quite alright regardless of 2 million views. As Dom mentioned, he likes that his line has been used so many times. He likes that people are trying to learn or teach others how to play the line, (whether they're playing it right or not) and opens up potential new listeners to their music. 👍
"I'm not that good of a guitarist" LMAO yea right!!! Dude his playing is tonally the best I've heard. No buzzin or mis-frets on chords I've only seen in a Mel Bay book, let alone attempted to play. Great use of vibrato as well. Don't let him fool you this dude can play. ❤
I'm not even a sting fan yet I cannot get enough of Dominic's personality, in that of his speaking and his playing. Truly a hypnotic, beautiful yet simple and relaxing presence.
This interview and many like it that Rick is so generously doing is building a library for history of music and belongs in the hall of fame. Simply beautiful how musicians have no problem at all sharing their talent with us all. Thank you.
Totally agree. I've been watching Rick for a couple of years now and looking back I cannot believe how much I've learned, effortlessly, and in a very fun way.
Joy,! Such a humble man who can demonstrate his skills and is so open about his life, his influences and career. He has worked with the greats in modern music. Most music fans will be unaware how often Dominic has featured in the music they are listening to. Rick, we, your fans, owe you a debt of gratitude for bringing him to public attention. Thank you.
So many unsung (no pun intended) musicians go about their craft without fanfare. Whether it's in a hotel lounge or backing a 'rock star'. His arrangement of Carmen's arrangement of Rachmaninov's second movement from his Piano Concerto #2 is beautiful. His ability to capture the essence of a piece... he's a musician's musician.
This is the difficulty that I struggle with when watching Rick's videos. I've been watching since the early months of the channel. I've grown more, as a musician in these years than I did in the previous 30, however... The shift from the early composing and theory videos to full on historian has been so humbling and wonderful. It's joyous to hear these stories, to see the documentation that is being preserved through these conversations. Interviewing doesn't cover the scope, because an interviewer is often reciting questions without the depth of knowledge that only a peer can provide. As @MrAlans123 said, listening is key, but I think Rick's knowledge is what elevates these videos to something else. These conversations NEED to be recorded for future generations, not because of the individual, but because the individual is able to say what they need to say, as a Musician. That insight is not lost on me, and I know it's not lost on most viewers of this channel. Dominic was a tremendous guest here and was able to speak clearly in a manner that will benefit everyone who watches this. His creative skill is clearly evident, but sussing out the origins, from traveling from South America to Wisconsin to England, showcases how those influences gave him a language that he has been able to share with the world. Bravo Rick and bravo Dominic. Thank you sharing this with us.
I watch lots of rick vids and it validates how much I suck and what an idiot I am . I play and can get through a set but I will never call myself a musician .

Over the years I've seen him play lots of different guitars...the sound comes from the player, of that I'm 100% sure. Though that white Yari is a cool looking instrument.
The parlor size guitars are ideal for this type of intimate playing, and a guitar that sounds sweet as honey, but can still give you lots of bite is the all-mahogany Gibson LG0 steel string "student model" acoustic. Best year imho is the 1964. The spruce top LG0's just don't have the same character. They're great for bluegrass though.
we were in Atlanta 5 years ago and our friends suprised us and took us to see Sting live, tbh it was an amazing gig bloody hell all the players were brilliant including this man
Felt exactly the same way but from the perspective of, "I didn't realise I loved so many songs that he had played without actually knowing it was him playing them." Wonderful talented musician.
What struck me was that he has been with Sting 35 plus years ... which to me is a testament to Dominic's clearly confident yet "cruiser" personality that becomes a trusted friend and band member too. Seems like a down to earth guy willing to let others shine next to him (i.e. Sting). Great to see you (Rick) focus on this guys great wealth of wisdom and skill in his own interview. Great stuff!
Dominic is such a humble and down to earth person - and yet such a fantastic musician. Sting with Dominic Miller, Vinnie Colaiuta and David Sancious - some of the best concerts I have ever seen and heard!
I think a lot of people don’t appreciate just how masterful his playing is. He makes simple riffs sound with so much depth. Just listen to his dynamic range and how he projects the melody over the accompanimental voices. It’s a lot harder to play like that than many realize.
This was an absolute masterpiece, Rick left lots of room for Dominic to open up and I feel elevated in spirit from this, completely bowled over by how simple, effective and beautiful Dominic's style of playing is, his understanding and love for the music. Wow. Not sure this can be bettered.
I watch and rewatch and watch this episode again. Rick, this is my favorite interview that you’ve done. I am a lay person to music. I am blind, deaf and Mute to music. I meaning, I can’t read or play music. I can’t sing it. BUT I love and admire those that do. And you have pulled the curtain and showed me the amazing world of Music. And this, this is “what makes these songs great”. Thank you Rick. Thank you.
Cool weather, a cup of coffee, Rick Beato and Dominic Miller. What a great way to wake up. Dominic's guitar tone is so balanced. The low end is warm and articulate, never muddy. Brilliant.
Had the treat of seeing Dominic on stage with Sting less than 24 hours ago. I am in awe of the musicianship displayed during the concert, but also here. What an inspiring conversation. Thank you for that yummy plate of soul food!
What a lovely humble man,,, so impressed with his informative way of getting a point across. His nylon strings and intervals between notes are priceless. Than you so much Rick for not interupting him.. ❤
@@voice_of_reason5604 well.. the fact that it's been sampled in different genres probably gives it very good reach into wider audiences than something that's known only in its original song. so it might not be as outrageous as it first sounds.
This interview w Dominic was riveting and I’m not a musician. I have learned more about music through Dominic’s teachings. Excellent conversation, focus, positive energy and well balanced human being. One other video that is intriguing to me is when Sting is singing and Dominic moves quietly to the backup singers and instrumentalists to help them. What a memorable moment.
It’s truly amazing how gifted a musician Dominic is. It’s mind boggling how creative guys like this can produce beautiful melodies, and bring enjoyment to hundreds of millions of people. I am so envious of these talented musicians!
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” Leonardo Da Vinci used to say. Great interview for both great persons involved: Rick and Dominick; it’s a thorough pleasure to listen to great musicians who are both simple and sophisticated at the same time.🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👍
Lao Tzu says that some people try to increase their learning, but a person who follows the tao (correct path) tries to decrease their learning. Same beautiful principle.
Seriously, Rick, this is the most unexpected thing i've ever seen on RUclips. Ever since I saw the Ten Summoners Tales video on VHS in 1993 (my brother bought it for me) I've always wanted to hear Dominic talk on his own. And wow. He's so comfortable here, he's so happy to speak, it's all thanks to you and the space you gave him. Massively good video. Thank you.
Another perfect interview Rick. I love that Dom says "I'm not that great a guitarist myself" then plays those gorgeous, virtuoso arrangements. Sublime.
This channel will end up an archive of historically significant interviews. Try to interview as many famous musicians as you can Rick! They are not getting any younger! No one has your skill set and knowledge to be able to produce masterpieces like this
The interview with Sting started out slow, but once Sting realized that Rick was not there to be antagonistic, Sting warmed up and felt at home. With Dominic, he already knew how it was going to go and he felt at home from the beginning. Both, great interviews! Well done Rick.
Dominic is such an awesome player!! Soul Cages and Ten Summoner's Tails are 2 absolutely world class records and Dominic has been an incredible asset since he joined forces with Sting. What an incredible interview!
What an amazing encounter. Two beautiful souls, full of knowledge, experience and humanity. Zero ego, just pure beauty. Miller brings a minimalist yet very sophisticated approach of antic lute playing and arrangements. His tone is so modest yet rich and colourful. Superb understanding and transmission. Rick is a rare gem. So humble and appreciative. But his rare and immense knowledge is omni present and every comment is perfect and enriching. I'm sure all his guests are so appreciative having such deep and fun dialogues. That's what the world needs! thank you so much!
Holy cow I was like over an hour of Dominic Miller?! What on Earth will they have to talk about for that long. And here I am, utterly entranced, fascinated and wanting more. One of your best interviews, Rick. Bravo. I love how humble he is - his classical technique isn't actually all that great, but his voicing is out of this world. And he's curated the main gist of those pop songs - like a Japanese artist drawing a bull with two bold lines. Gorgeous.
Tons of interviewers on YT but Rick has the formula nailed. Asked poignant questions and let the artist take the conversation to its natural conclusion: the music itself. Thank you, Rick, for sharing these moments with us!
"Just imagine you are singing it." I love how he takes his time and listens to the melody as it emerges from his guitar. And Rick is such a talented interviewer. The discussions flow so naturally and effortlessly while revealing the person behind the guitar.
It's goosebumps for me every time I hear Dominic play. That riff in particular, though, is magic. I don't understand why it is so penetrating and why it evokes so much emotion, and I'm not sure I need to. It simply is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.
Rick, I'll put it this way. If this interview was 20 hours long, it would still be too short. I mean... I could watch this all day. It's a gem - you are a gem of an interviewer. Thank you sooo much for what you're doing. This interview was one of the most pleasant, most "makes me smile" interviews I've ever seen. And I always get to learn such surprising facts! Like what Dominic mentioned here. I've always been a fan of Sting, but there's one piece of music from another artist from the late 80's that usually gives me goosebumps when I hear it. It's Another day in paradise. I don't know why, but there's just something about the song that brings back so much nostalgia, and so strongly, I can feel like I'm back in those days. Especially the very first sounds of the song, the intro, before the melody even starts. Who on earth would have thought that it was Dominic's work I've been listening to all these years, without knowing it! But now it all makes sense! All the best from Slovakia, Juraj
Thank you Rick for bringing Dominic on--thank you, Dominic. In the middle of the interview I had to pause, go sit at the piano, and play - my own songs, examining for the magical parts--and then just falling into the muse ... then back to the interview for more inspiration and encouragment. From all of us artists out there whose heartbeat runs on music, thank you!
Your productions values are always great, but this video was right up there with anything you'll see on mainstream TV. The audio is always 1st class, the visuals are right up there, but the biggest 'win' was you allowing your interviewee time to tell his story and play his music, without talking over him like other presenters often do. TV perfection - thank you. ❤❤
I can't express how meaningful these interviews are to me. Another golden hour at the table where the high priests unveil the magical mysteries, with reverence, humility, humor and humanity. I've always admired Dominic's artistry, but I had no idea what a freaking angel walking the earth this man is. And, Rick Beato, you ARE a great educator, and I am equally grateful for your knowledge, perspective and pragmatism. You've been an integral part of this great demystification of this thing called music that saved my soul when I was a teenager in the 70's. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thank you for giving him his own interview. He ceded so much speaking time to Sting, (understandably) he didn't get to contribute as much. Glad to see this!
This is how you interview a musician. You speak 5% of the time, and let the guest talk and play for the rest. Wonderful.
I'm so glad you said that out loud. Rick did a fantastic interview and I thought just that. 👍🏽

What a touch, what a tone, what a kind person. Absolute gem of an interview! ❤
yep, i get so much from him, really special!
I feel it this man has a wonder heart
That little nylon sounds amazing!
@@funkyfurballs1078 That little nylon doesnt make any sound
my exakt words too 👍
I have never watched an interview where the musician starts playing, and creates a perfect bubble of silence... it's like the rest of your day falls away and all you are left with is pure wonder. Amazing. I think this feels mostly down to what Dominic is "not" playing - he leaves each note in its own space, with its own importance and weight, the right amount of respect for every single brush or pluck or slide... amazing interview, amazing guitarist
Nice comment
Agree totally, his playing let's the music breath in perfect rhythm.
One of the best comments I’ve read in a long time sir…. I agree with you 100%✊
Was thinking along those lines watching this and came here to comment. However, you already put it so elegantly and much better than I could.😊
'Music is the space between the notes' , a wise man once said. He was right and Dominic proves it.
Rick (and guests) just keep rising to new heights every time. This channel is such a treasure; there's nothing else with this level of quality on youtube or TV. Nothing.
AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope not. Topping yourself means something quite different and dramatic in the UK…
@@andybute ha!, didn't think of that. (not a native speaker but have heard the phrase!)
Couldn't agree more
It really is a treat every time, regardless of your personal tastes.
What a TOUCH Dom has on the guitar! Nothing rushed, nothing forced, just pure emotion ringing out from his heart to ours.........beautiful!
"Winner Takes It All" but yes. An amazingly tasteful arrangement.
+1
I don’t understand if this is a CD that can be purchased because I haven’t found it on his website nor on Amazon
I instantly went to his website hoping the album he's talking about here is already available. Not yet it appears. Please hurry up, Dom.
@@moogprophet2472 Appears it's a work in progress. Hope we can listen to it this Summer.
Only cried about twice listening to that little guitar. The way Dominic puts meaning into EVERY note is mesmerising.
Omg same here 🥲
why would you , as a dude , admit that ?
@@davidrice3337 Because he's a real man. You'll get it whe you grow up.
Arguably your greatest interview yet. What a charming, warm, smart, talented, interesting, humble, wonderful man. And you conducted your interview perfectly, letting Dominic go... letting him teach and recall and PLAY. Thanks for hitting it out of the park yet again, Rick.
Couldn’t have said it better myself - Dominic is such a lovely man
He is a nice guy, all right, but warm is kind of a stretch, in'it?
@@joaoferesjunior6734 No, he is a really warm person. That is obvious to anyone who has been to his gig. Dominic is a really great musician and such a great career, but he still cares about each and every one of his fans. If you question that, go to his gigs and talk to him. And his kindness is clearly reflected in the sound of his guitar.
Agee 100%.
Not surface level shop, real nuts and bolts.
thank you.
I really enjoyed reading your comment. Thank you 😄
I love when Dominic is playing and a certain harmony makes him smile. Music clearly brings him joy. It's wonderful that he wants to share the ability to create such music with others.
...then you should look at Tim Pierce.
@@BuddieOLLi +1 definitely.
@@BuddieOLLi I looked him up and agree!
@@BuddieOLLi The other person who comes to mind is Tommy Emmanuel. I love when he's playing a guitar arrangement of a song and he can't help but sing along. Watching him playing Nirvana with Mike Dawes and clearly having a blast, always makes me smile.
@@stevem-h3562 Agreed!
You nailed it….its such an exceedingly beautiful and romantic riff….could listen to a loop of it only!
Amen
In spades.. I see what you did there
Theres a difference of being a great guitarist and a great artist. and than occasionally you get someone who is both like mike dawes and tommy emmanuel.
Miller is a genius...he makes it look simple. His explanation makes the riff seem like 'of course playing it slowly makes this so easy'. Only a handful of people in the world can make such inspired tonation seem matter-of-fact.
One can understand why Sting has included Dom in his musical journey for so long! What a master musician!🙏
I was awaiting ❤
Exactly the same has happened to me…
Same thing here!
Sry but what riff is this? Its a real question
Yes, same to me.
Personally, I think this kind of interviewing is the start of something big! The sound quality is absolutely stunning? The playing equally so... but damn what an amazing video! Well done to Rick and his team.
True. Even on the iPad his guitar sounds great. Well done Rick. 😅
I just hope they don't start clickbaiting all of the titles. No one should reward that behavior.
"the start of..." it's been happening for years my friend :D welcome to the present
There's respect in both directions, and unlike most interviewers Rick isn't a "ME ME ME ME ME!" person.
Classy. Charming. Humble. Refreshing.
What a treat to listen to Dominic share
His thoughts and play so freely. A true gentleman and tremendous musician. Thank you Dominic, and thank you Rick!
Actually, this was one of Rick's best, and that's saying plenty. DM's awesome!
What an unbelievable guitarist he is. To make it seem so effortless when we know sounding that great is a lifetime of huge effort. So musical.
That version of "Your Song" is amazingly beautiful, what an arrangement! Way to go Mr. Miller
Just came here after watching him teach Paul David's bossa nova. Dominic should be on every best guitarist list.
Ah, the Dutch guy with the RUclips channel 😀.
Dominic’s playing is so amazing - his arrangement of “Your Song” was simply incredible. Great interview Rick
Ten Summoner's Tales - that album says all about Dom's genius
His back catalogue of solo albums contains many treasures! And his solo gigs (with his band) or on occasions, on his own, are wonderful.

Every time he starts playing I just cannot prevent myself freezing and listen intently, Dominic’s tone and playing is just crazy beautiful.
You have listened to his solo work on ECM, haven't you?
@@hanno8705 no, this video was actually my first introduction to his work. Will check it out!
Exactly! He and Sting are both Old Souls. Lived many a life.
How I love these calm, deep interviews.. Thank you, Rick, one of the best interviews I have ever seen.
So now we need Dominic to be a "RUclips Teacher", and do video tutorials all his arranged songs from his new book! Shout out to Paul Davids too, who must be the guy he mentioned, a really nice person and great teacher! Thank you Rick for another great interview!
Yep, my immediate thought was Paul David and I'm sure others have too. 👍
@@adameden8722 well said.
@@adameden8722Could almost hear you singing it. 😀
I don't think you quite got what Dom meant in regards to taking it personally.
Damn I wish I could play like that!
Seeing him back really tells how Rick is a phenomenal person ❤
I'm not even a sting fan yet I cannot get enough of Dominic's personality, in that of his speaking and his playing. Truly a hypnotic, beautiful yet simple and relaxing presence.
This interview and many like it that Rick is so generously doing is building a library for history of music and belongs in the hall of fame. Simply beautiful how musicians have no problem at all sharing their talent with us all. Thank you.
Totally agree. I've been watching Rick for a couple of years now and looking back I cannot believe how much I've learned, effortlessly, and in a very fun way.
Him playing “your song” brought tears to my eyes. He has such a feel! Damn!
yes🥹
Nevermind, was a stupid question :DDD
Thank you.
Well said!
❤
This video just made Dominic one of my favorite guitarists! What a lovely person, and I'm in shock over how beautiful everything he plays sounds.
Yes, he reminds me of Nigel Tufnell. lol
Wonderful.
I watch lots of rick vids and it validates how much I suck and what an idiot I am . I play and can get through a set but I will never call myself a musician .
Agreed. Rick’s knowledge allows him to ask the pertinent questions that makes his guests want to answer in depth, because they feel understood.

Since when have "guitarist" and "musician" been mutually exclusive?
The sound coming from that little guitar is amazing! Rick’s genius is letting Dominic play.
Over the years I've seen him play lots of different guitars...the sound comes from the player, of that I'm 100% sure. Though that white Yari is a cool looking instrument.
you're sure that's Yairi?@@garryallen4155
The parlor size guitars are ideal for this type of intimate playing, and a guitar that sounds sweet as honey, but can still give you lots of bite is the all-mahogany Gibson LG0 steel string "student model" acoustic. Best year imho is the 1964. The spruce top LG0's just don't have the same character. They're great for bluegrass though.

Fascinating interview. I went from not knowing who Dominic Miller is to adoring him as a musician and a person.
Felt exactly the same way but from the perspective of, "I didn't realise I loved so many songs that he had played without actually knowing it was him playing them." Wonderful talented musician.
Brand new fan here, Bravo

Yes! It's the greatest Sting's band formation.
Vinnie’s live playing on Seven Days (especially the one big fill) is simply some of the greatest drumming performance ever.
As an argentinean guy, I feel so proud that this great man was born in our lands . . The inrterview was amazing . . So . All our love to Dominic . .
I think a lot of people don’t appreciate just how masterful his playing is. He makes simple riffs sound with so much depth. Just listen to his dynamic range and how he projects the melody over the accompanimental voices. It’s a lot harder to play like that than many realize.
Mr. Miller I’m speechless. Thank you for who you are and the joy you bring to the world. Truly thank you.
Thank you.
I would love an entire album of these pared-down, gorgeous versions of interesting songs. In fact, I long for it!
It’s great that he acknowledges the classical music influence. It’s super smoothing, like a lullabye.
One of your best ever guests. I really enjoyed hearing Dominic's approach to a song.
The verse and instrumental portions of All by Myself are so beautiful because it is lifted from Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2.

Can you give the link to that?
It’s truly amazing how gifted a musician Dominic is. It’s mind boggling how creative guys like this can produce beautiful melodies, and bring enjoyment to hundreds of millions of people. I am so envious of these talented musicians!
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” Leonardo Da Vinci used to say. Great interview for both great persons involved: Rick and Dominick; it’s a thorough pleasure to listen to great musicians who are both simple and sophisticated at the same time.🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👍

Sublime.

Could not agree with this more, 💯
absolutely
I said this a long time ago.
These interviews are incredible.
Musicians in their purest form.
The interview with Sting started out slow, but once Sting realized that Rick was not there to be antagonistic, Sting warmed up and felt at home. With Dominic, he already knew how it was going to go and he felt at home from the beginning. Both, great interviews! Well done Rick.
Great interview, Rick! Fascinating guy playing some beautiful stuff.
Dominic is such an awesome player!! Soul Cages and Ten Summoner's Tails are 2 absolutely world class records and Dominic has been an incredible asset since he joined forces with Sting. What an incredible interview!
Damn, now I need to revisit all of them and stay hooked for a week or so... ty
Dang! Dominic Miller is the definition of an artist. What an amazing musician.
Such humility from someone so adept. He’s amazing. What a superb interview. Thank you Rick.
Dominic seems so down to earth. So refreshing. Wonderful interview Rick.
Dominic's playing, the spacing between notes, perfect. You hang on each one anticipating the next. Well done Sir.
When that album came out it didn’t leave the CD player in the car for a very long time
Brought me to tears listening to his playing on this.
Which one are you referring to?
All the best from Slovakia,
Juraj
Thank you for these incredible interviews. I don’t play any instruments, but love listening to these experts in their field telling their stories.
Rick is able to bring attention to lesser known Musicians. Dominic is a great story teller and his phrasing with the guitar just pulls you in.
without talking over him like other presenters often do, AMEN.
Dom is just great, so much feeling and soul in his playing. Also such a humble, funny and down to earth guy.
I could listen to Dominic play for hours. I love that he played "The winner takes it all." His version brought a tear to my eye...
Thank you for giving him his own interview. He ceded so much speaking time to Sting, (understandably) he didn't get to contribute as much. Glad to see this!
