- My "One Man Band" cover of "Just What I Needed". I used an old Tascam console, and some other inexpensive gear to make this recording, and then mixed it in Pro Tools.
RIP Ben, badass punk rock love song ever!!
Appologies for the lack of responses. I don't get on my page as often as I should. Thank you all for the kind words! I sincerely appreciate them!! :)
Freaking awesome bro! You gained a subscriber.
Those drums sound so nice and full. Perfect sound and tone.
You could easily do Steve Miller 😁 super enjoying these vids and geeking out a bit!
Wow. I'm completely blown away by your talent. So laid back while doing it too. Well done!
the feel and timing of the guitar solo is not easy. u really nailed it. great work
Would be amazing to see how you mixed this project. Awesome job as always!
Excellent!!
Great cover of my favourite Cars track. New sub here
This was totally awesome. I was actually considering buying a tascam m-1600 console and a DBX 1046 compressor for my home rig, because I've learned that I much prefer mixing in the analog domain rather than just in pro tools. I gotta tell you man, this allowed me to see that it might be cool to do just that. By the way, I'm a huge cars fan and I really loved your version of "just what I needed". Really put my day on the up and up. Keep up the good work!
Incredible cover! Great vocals, great drum sound - and that SOLO! You killed it.
Excellent
Yesssssssssssss!!!!!! Dig it
Awesome! The series of videos, Tascam Project Part 1 through Part 8, building up the mix track by track was fantastic! Thank you.
Really well done.
Incredible mix. If you haven't released it then release it NOW!!! It is ready!!! Sonic Candy Ear Bliss.
Wow - another awesome cover man - just so well done - and your vocals are top shelf.
That was amazing!
I can't even put into words how impressive this is!
Thank you so much! :)
Another great One Man Band song!!! You killed it and the video was so cool!!
Great job on this! You nailed all the parts.
So underrated. Awesome job!
Awesome you know what you are doing, the mix sounds great and natural
awesome for a one man project...... well done.
Wow. Very ambitious cover and it’s flawless. The Elliot solo so freaking spot on! Whole production is great. Inspiring video since I’m tracking DAW-less and looking for inspiring techniques. Thanks and cheers 👍🏼
Sounds great!
Sounds great man! I found the episodes you did on the recording of the song when looking around about an 1986 Tascam analog mixer I just hooked up in the studio, very cool finding this!
well done!
I purchased the exact console about a month ago and i'm thinking to myself was it worth the purchase. Hell yeah! Picking up my Pro Tools software and a new audio interface for a studio I have been building. Your video gave my Tascam board a reason to rock again and your work on that song is top notch! Would be nice for you to show us how you set up your Tascam board to your computer because that's what many of us old school guys are picking up on today. Thanks again for the awesome videos!
Love it! I've got a version of Good Times Roll going. Great work!
Better than the original.👍👍👍👍👍
You're truly an inspiration to me...from being a one-man band, to mixing and production... I first discovered you from the Nine Lashes album you worked on (the mix was so good, I had to Google you lol). But truly, I've been on a similar path, albeit on a much smaller scale. Thanks for the inspiration J.R!
Thank you, Damion! I'm honored by your words!! :)
sounds great...gj! hope to see the mixing part as well
Great voice
Very good cover. :D I just noticed this song is a half step down from the original recording. The original recording is played in E.
Could you do a cover of Nightlife by The Cars?
Man sounds so great! Amazing job again. PS I think bass groove JR has the best video presence. :-)
HAHAHA! Thanks, Man! I filmed / recorded "Bass Dude" right after we got back from the beach last year, so he's go a bit of a sun tan going on, with "Raccoon Eyes" from wearing sunglasses. LOL!
Great job!
Thank you!!
😊🤗🤘🤘🤘
I have this console - don't know how it sounds these days... been a few years since I turned it on.... I know MIDI muting had died - but prob needs some recaps at this point. Currently restoring a Wheatstone console so prob won't bother repairing but I miss those days! Great job! Are you using those Tascam onboard parametric mids? or outboard stuff? or ProTools eqs for drums?
Amazing tune, great job on everything, the videos are cool, I would like to make them-I would make horrible noises and perhaps use my cats...Viva Le Revolution!!!! Sorry my brain thinks of things and I just write it down, my brain thinks this is amazing, great job on all these vids
Wow.
Can I be in your band? Really though, that was great, man! Hey, I know you used the Tascam board to track, but I was wondering if you tracked onto tape, then real-time transferred it to ProTools or did you just track straight to protools from the board somehow? Just trying to get a grasp of the major components you used to achieve the overall sound quality of this outside of your great musical performance of this song.
nice
why didnt u mix with tascam console?
And some drum samples... Nice one either way.
Actually, there is only a kick drum sample added. I only did that for a bit of consistency. There are no tom or snare samples. If you watch the "Tascam mixer project" videos I made, you can hear the raw drum tracks prior to mixing.
Drums sound quantized also... Both samples and quantization makes for a much solid take. Nice project!
F yeah! Ha ha.
That one thumbs down is proof that some people are just full of shit. Ha ha.
How does this only have 144 likes? Proof the universe is full of shit. Universe you have been exposed.
Hey, M8 !...Terrific quality and tasteful rock vocals in your covers. Vocals and music ALWAYS TIGHT AND SPOT-ON. qUALITY MUSICIANSHIP. yOUR COVERS ARE IT, IF THE ORIGINAL ISN'T HANDY - BEST COMPLIMENT i CAN GIVE. :) *
