i used to be terrified of bugs, id kill them in a panic or id have to have someone else kill it, i couldn't even be in the room the bug was in. i think i was like that until about 2 years ago. yesterday i spent 5 minutes trying to hold a jumping spider i found on my work break, i cried when i accidentally killed a silverfish last week, i have to look away when i kill ants or gnats at my work. i've found spiders in my bed and carried them outside in my hand, and i havent killed a bug on purpose in 2 years. i think a big part of it for me was holding the bugs and being able to look into their eyes. i started having trouble killing ants when i held one and looked into its teeny little eyes and pictured him looking back into mine (i also started thinking way more about bugs' feelings after i started to take shrooms every so often, they really helped to open my mind up to change, they improved my self esteem and helped my empathy override my fear to where i can appreciate little buggums)

These videos have been so good for motivation to actually get out of bed and start my day and then motivation to feel being productive without feeling like I need to be productive to be a good person. I’m so glad you started posting this stuff.
Edit: for the weights in the backpack making you worry about the straps but not wanting to buy weights, you could always thrift a cheap backpack and use that one for workouts. It’ll be less expensive than weights, less risk to a nice backpack you wanna use for other stuff too and you also get a spare backpack that you feel less guilty about ruining

re: managing connections with executive dysfunction, i've always been the "out of sight out of mind" person who forgets to text back for weeks. i feel like i would literally have to schedule in "texting back" time daily. it would of course be good for maintaining connections but i fear i would grow resentful of essentially having to clock in for connection time every day.

I just want to tell you I am so grateful for this comment, because I could have written this word for word. Down to scheduling a “texting back” time slot every day and then being afraid that it would only increase my resentment / dread around doing it (and shame when I fail). It helps me to know I’m not the only one who deals with this.
For what it’s worth, for the last couple months, I’ve been working on making it a daily habit - and so far here’s what is helping me:
I don’t have an actual time slot to sit down and do it. I tried, but like you said, it felt like “clocking in,” it was too micromanaged for me and I would just end up skipping / avoiding it.
Instead, I treat it like a checklist item to get done at some point during the day. Whenever I think of it or can muster up the energy.
To get even more specific, I have a special column calendar (days of the month are listed in rows from top to bottom) and I use it for simple habit / expense tracking. One of my columns says “text backs” and I cross it out every day I clear out my texts.
If it’s after 9pm and I realize I never cleared my texts, I will release myself from that obligation and plan to do it tomorrow.
(Also, by “clearing out my texts” I just mean sending ONE response to each unread message. If the other person responds right away, sometimes I will text back and forth a couple times, and sometimes I will just leave my next response for tomorrow. This helps relieve the dread of getting sucked into maintaining the convo. Sending one text a day is WAY better than sending nothing for weeks.)
Simply setting that daily intention, and physically checking it off on my calendar when I do it, and seeing my daily streaks grow - this has helped to keep it closer to the top of my mind. I don’t get it every day, but I get it often enough that it has relieved a LOT of the pressure and shame that used to paralyze me. I no longer have huge spans of weeks where I’m forgetting or avoiding my texts. And I’m less isolated, less afraid of doing it, my relationships are definitely improving.
Change is possible! I am rooting for you. For us 💪

    • @geroni211
      @geroni211 3 месяца назад

I don't usually grow resentful because these tasks are important to me. Texting back is actually helping me because it spares me from feeling like a shit friend or having me become distant from my relationships.
Also I use a system where I make a to do list of stuff I should/want to do that day. It's okay if I don't do all of it, I'm just trying to do as many as I can.
For worse tasks I'm avoiding (phone calls, mostly), I set up an alarm, with the deal that if I haven't done it until the alarm rings, then I have to do it that moment. That way it wasn't forced upon me, I just made a choice and now have to deal with the consequences.

Your videos are resonating with me during an incredibly difficult time. I just lost my third pregnancy and I feel incredibly alone. Nobody seems to understand the hurt because I am only 22, which makes people try to put a positive spin on it because in their minds 22 is too early to have kids and I should be doing other things. I push people away because I’m kind of tired of hearing the same canned responses. I struggle to do anything for myself. I’m doing the bare minimum for my husband and my dog. When you talked about a baby being the “smallest person there” at a baby shower, it brought be a lot of joy. Even in the womb my babies were people. I was so excited to see what kind of people they would be. What kind of silly little noises they would make. What their least favorite animal at the zoo would be. What costume they’d refuse to change out of before going to the store.
To answer your question about if you went “beep beep beep” for forty minutes-I think it would help. We make our silly little noises around people who we are comfortable with. People who we can be ourselves with. It just makes you feel like a real person rather than some of the other cleaning channels where it’s performative and impersonal.
    My favorite 3 languages are:
    Exaggerated facial expressions
    Laughs and smiles
    Hugs
My favorite 5 types of people I’ve ever met are:
    - People who run up to you from across a room to compliment your outfit.
    - Babies in that stage where they just stare at you, and you can tell they are just soaking in absolutely everything about the world
    - People who lose their minds with excitement when they see an animal
    - Tall People who step aside to let shorter folks to the front of a crowd (I am 6’1 and I try to be this person)
    - People who don’t shove when preparing to deplane

hey, i am super sorry to hear about your losses. i am 38 and just had my first baby at christmas. bc i am older, my pregnancy received all that extra scrutiny that makes a person think about the worst possible outcomes. my husband would remind me that it's just the eugenics built into our excuse for healthcare in the US, and these things actually happen at slightly higher rates to younger people bc horrible things can happen to anyone for no reason at all. i have spent tons of time thinking about this along with all the loss in Gaza, and it makes me cry all the time. i am lucky to have a husband who does not dismiss my feelings or just blame it on post partum because i make most people very uncomfortable when i express myself
you deserve some comfort, and even though it doesn't help, you are worth a few tears. it's not out of my way, and a good cry feels good, actually. thank you for sharing your story. people need to learn that toxic positivity is harmful because trying to force someone to feel better is messed up. adults are the worst; children are so much better to be around imo. i hope you get what you want in life; sounds like your husband and doggo and very lucky to have you. best of luck
      my favorite 3 languages are:
-latin (took all the classes at my university)
-yiddish (husband is working on it)
-any slavic language (they just sound so cool)
my favorite 5 types of people are:

It's been a really hard new year. I'm 26, got my dream job in interior design, me and my husband were finally starting to feel stable & ready to start a family, and I got laid off.
It's taken me 7 months to find a job, it's a 40-50 min drive, and instead of designing i am now a part of a landscape crew ¿?
I'm managing, but today was especially hard. For years my self worth was tied to my job title. It still kind of is... But today Noah reminded me that life is gonna life. I am GOING to fail. I'm a person. It is apart of what helps us adapt and evolve.
I feel like a failure. Why I waste so much money, why didn't I save more, why did I put all my eggs in one basket, what is wrong with me... I feel like I've taken 20 steps back when I've done everything right.
Thank you for posting today Noah. I've been crying on & off all day, but the tears I cried during this video were healing. No one around me relates, but you made me feel seen

Man I love being asked about my favorite stuff.
    1. Polish
    2. Turkish
    3. European English dialects (mainly scots and Irish)
    1. Universally unthreatening people that are just chill and trustworthy. Are underestimated by most and also wiser. Welcome in almost any environment.
    2. Older sisters
    3. Humble geniuses who share their knowledge and value curiosity and conviction over talent.
    4. Somewhat bohemian single mothers of daughters or sons who grew up around all women (my aunts)
    5. Daydreamers who are sweet, hurt and feel invisible and are very friendly. They’re hard to understand fully but are not emotionally unavailable.
    6. Music nerds that are very passionate, goofy unserious and find pretentiousness either gross, funny or unproductive.
    7. People who always have something to say. That “can’t stay on topic” but enough to make a point and jump elsewhere, you can never run out of things to talk about and only stop like an interrupted flow of chaos, not that there’s no silence there is comfortable company silence, no ice to break, just water flowing. People that “talk way too much”, but mostly don’t spend time talking shit about others or being critical or mean, except it’s about them, but not destructive just analytical. They talk more passionately about things they appreciate or find interesting.
    8. Children that can maintain extensive conversations. 2 scenarios: when they “talk like adults” but sound caricaturesque, hilarious but can still get deep. Very much shameless still. And when they talk so excitedly and passionately they start spitting jumping yelling dancing or doing hand motions, and it’s a lot but don’t want to shut them down by telling them to calm down, just let them be and encourage that feeling and them going further into the conversation. it’s awesome I love talking to children.
    9. Wealthy hardworking people who use their privileges to help others.
    10. People who are living their second chance type life (survivors of an illness or life threatening experience) or just with that same spirit. Or that are living like it’s their last days on earth, terminally to the fullest. The feeling of that movie with Queen Latifah: Last Holliday (2006), just with a happy ending, I love when people realize the worth of their lives after being close to death and are able to now enjoy the rest of their lives more intensely.
Those are some.❤toesawesome, if you read this guess 1 thing about me based on all of this I’m curious.

If you know you like creative things, try other creative things. Paint, sculpt, make music, doesn't matter. Don't spend a ton of money on it, just try it for fun. Even if you don't get good at it, it can stop you from artistically stagnating while you're unable to work on the big ambitious project you really want (but also kinda don't want) to do. Or it'll help you let go of the old idea as you come across new ideas that might be more feasible.

Hey Noah, I'm turning 26 quite soon! I like hearing your human sounds, but as nice as your native beep boops are, a common language like English is preferred.
I'm the kind of person who listens to your Noah Time videos somewhere between active & passive. More on the active side, unless my brain tunes off. I don't do much at the same time personally, aside from maybe drawing. Making a name day card for my mother currently.
I haven't had pets, but I love being in forests and spectating urban life too. When I was about 8 or 9, on a few occasions my parents would get worried that I was taking long coming home from school. From what I remember on nice spring days I would walk fairly slow with my packed backpack and stop on occasion to view the life around me. Various plants. Worms. Beetles. Bumblebees flying from flower to flower. Someone walking their dog. Cat going on the street. Just admiring all that made me forget I had to go to a place, as comfortable as that place called home was to me.
Re: exercise. I'm trying to remember to keep healthy. I'm a skinny fella, so working my muscles a bit whenever I remember to and feel like it is good. Should do it more often though and to a slightly greater intensity. And eating at specific intervals can be a slight struggle.
Depression sucks. Had a generally long lowpoint for about a year. Had my mind down in the dumps and similar to how you spoke about video games and League of Legends in an earlier video, I got sucked into an almost addiction of Final Fantasy XIV. It has a great story, but I played through an expansion in it a bit joylessly. Partially through to FOMO when my friend was playing the expansion too, partially because of coping with life events & difficulties. I feel much better now and hoping to focus better on my university of applied sciences studies.
I also felt like I was somewhere very high up in my brain, in stories and narratives and "high level" concepts, I forgot to pay attention to myself. What I actually feel. What my physical body is doing. What is my own lived experience. Not just that, but I forgot to listen to other people too. People on RUclips, maybe. But not the people who I was actually talking to. My family, my friends. Physically present or in a voice call online. But not really paying attention or focusing on them internally. I'm glad to be out of that now, but it was quite bad.
And my top 3 languages so far: English, Finnish, German. English being a common communication language with my online pals. Finnish being my first & generally a family language, but also in my uni studies. Most other languages I know even a little I'm not confident or fluent enough in. German is stretching it a bit too, despite having studied in for many years years ago. Japanese is also nice, but mainly when I watch media and there's subtitles in a language I'm a bit more fluent in. Doubt I could hold a conversation very far in that language. But that's okay. As long as people understand me to a comfortable capacity, it's fine.
Thank you for this video! You are important, you matter. Don't feel pressured to post too often if it's pressuring in a negative as well. People will be able to wait. If you want to keep it up though, please do! Have a great day, keep healthy & stay safe out in the world.

I do the same thing and I think what I’ve realized is that if they’re truly your friend and want to be in your life they’ll understand and be there no matter what. What really matters here is that everything picks up where you last left things when you are together or there isn’t communication for a long time. As a person who can’t manage romantic relationships and friendships at the same time I’m so lucky for the people I have around me. I can’t tell you how many times people could’ve decided not to respond back or decide to never hang out again. I truly don’t deserve it but I know my friends understand and that makes me strive to be a better communicator and friend everyday. ❤️

Top 5 people: the friend who doesn’t want to/need to go somewhere but will come with, the family members that are happy to see you when you’re gone for a while, the friends who I can share a laugh with about stupid things, the friends that are passionate about things/life and encourage me to do the same (I would deadass he lost without them), and the friends who I can act like I just saw yesterday when I haven’t seen them in a long time, those are the best people.

I actually really appreciate creators that don’t just act like their “followers” aren’t their viewers or backbone of their channel and just a number that doesn’t mean anything until get close to a million and try to actually engage with things they say and think sometimes. I get you can’t do it all the time or with everything but it’s odd to me the creators you’ll see that have loyal viewers and tell them to like subscribe and engage but never care unless the person is another creator and has the magical checkmark. Just a 32 yr old 3/4 Apache native/1/4 Irish woman that went to college and graduated an apprenticeship for plumbing/pipefitting and used to work mostly at refineries and nuclear plants and couldn’t afford to pay my union dues during Covid and got kicked out of my union after doing all the work to graduate and having to start all over again after having established a full fledged career multiple times and going back to having to start from 0 and still trying as nobody gives native women a chance in the construction field on their own without union backing, even if that union is corrupt, that thinks what you’re doing to help ppl on your self motivation journey is really cool.

    1. Im a fan of youthful adults - the older in age, the more bonus points
    2. Kids man - just kids playing with one another - never thought id enjoy watching a school yard - every little one is up to something - still hurts tho when you see that little loner sitting in a corner
    3. Parents eyes who light up when talking about their children - warms the thumper
    4. Pigeon Feeders - i dont know who you are but the pigeons love you and I love you - they do in fact look beautiful when flying collectively off buildings
    5. Ive been able to enjoy things that have been done/placed into this world purely out of love. So loving people, compassionate people, passion filled individuals - bonus points for the ones who create to create - its an honor

I’ve been putting these videos up when I’m working and it really helps get me by. I work in social services and it can be extremely depressing, but there’s something about having these videos up in the background that makes it easier to do the hard stuff.

I think being vegan has made me hate salads. I remember having like lunch with some professor and asking for vegan items on the menu and they only had salad. So I ate every single crumb (which I do anyway because I'm a winner) and the waiter was like "ooh, someone really liked their food" and I was like, "yes thank you" but inside I was screaming "I'm starving, you jerk!".

For home training, you can just get a suspension trainer. They can attach to a tree branch, a doorway, or you can mount them to a stud. They're very versatile and perfect for minimalistic/ calesthenic training.
Gymnastic rings are another option, but the suspension straps are nice because they are easier to use for leg training. That said, the gymnastics rings + excersie ball combo would allow you to do everything a suspension trainer will.

I don’t actually know what that is but it finally feels good. Probably it was becoming a father and finally accepting my duty as one. I’m at the best place in my life because I’ve been able to accept myself, let myself finally feel my emotions and work through them honestly.

I've been struggling a lot recently mental health wise. I've been a consumer of noah and other similar youtubers content for a few years and with subjects around things like autism I felt a lot of similarities with i.e. how I think, how I don't think and how I struggle in my day to day. But despite this resonance and feelings and evidence that points towards autism my peers always say "Everyone's got something, you don't have to label everything, you are you" and while I do understand and agree with labelling to a point I think I want answers as to why some days my brain ceases to give a damn about anything or times when my head is cranked up to 1000 and I can't keep still or silent, I think knowing what makes me tick would help a lot to relieve the weight off my mind. I think i'll finally take the step to try and figure out who I am, I talked through this all with friends yesterday and it really helped mentally, I implore anyone else who struggles with mental health to open up and get advice or seek help if you need. As I realised yesterday, everyone is going through something and they will understand you, you're never alone
