On Patreon, I want to get to know my viewers and vice versa. It can be hard to form connections in the RUclips comments. I'd also like to share behind the scenes photos and info, and photos and videos from my personal life. I'll be doing DIY projects once I buy a house, so I'll share satisfying before/during/after photos from my home remodel and decorating. Many posts will be available for free, so join even if you won't be a paying member. There is one tier for $3/mo.
Thank you, Shyra
This Q&A was fun! Let me know what you think of the *pop notification sound I added. The thought is it'll bring attention to the popup on the screen.

This was so amazing to get to know you a bit more! I am so honored to have any part in inspiring you to create your own channel as you have inspired me in many ways as well❤ I am so excited to see more from you in the future and especially your upcoming favorite project👀
Thank you so much! You've inspired so many miniaturists. I have to imagine hundreds of people have started making miniatures because of you! My channel brings me so much joy. I'm so grateful 😊
That was great getting to know a bit about the woman behind the calm voice. Bently House Minis was your beginners inspiration but your channel along with Tiny Key Hole Minis were mine. Thank's for being awesome.
That's so cool! Thank you for sharing.
So Awesome to hear, but how funny bc your Chicken Village is my inspiration for the chickens on The Josephine Farm! I have plenty of chickens for the village, even baby chicks, they will need more than the one coop I have, makes me anxious to get that scene started!🥰 BHM and QCM was my inspiration to start my channel..Thank You All for the Support!!!💖🥰💯
I can't get over how cool that is! I cannot wait to see!@@tinykeyholeminis
Beautiful ring and I love the fact that it is more responsibly sourced than diamonds. I love your minis!! Thanks and keep up the awesome tutorials!
Thanks for watching! I love my moissanite ring because it looks like diamonds and diamonds are SO beautiful. But, I'm a cheap cheap gal and would be stressed having a pricey ring on my finger, so it's perfect for me.
That was great hearing how you came to do miniatures. Really enjoyed it and getting to know you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😊
I have anxiety, it's worse at night. I watch your videos to help me sleep.
Also, kid free by choice club.
I'm so glad you're finding comfort in my videos.
Mine is worse at night, too! I once interpreted (sign language) a psychiatrist appointment and the doctor said that our perception of the world and life are very different when we are lying down. Shyra’s voice is definitely soothing.
@@lolashahdadi380 that's a great observation.
Fantastic! Great feeling for small details, craftsmanship and abundant creativity. Thanks for the wonderful show!
Glad you enjoyed it! I love this hobby aka passion
I too have enjoyed your voice. I have depression and anxiety and your voice calms me way down. Don't take this the wrong way but I actually fell asleep to your voice one night. But truly was a good thing because I don't sleep well at all. It was great getting to know you better. Thank you for sharing. A fan Michele
I'm so glad 😊 A friend of mine listens to my videos to sleep. My channel got her through COVID as well. No offense taken.
I've been churning over the idea of making a miniature channel with my kids as a summer project since we are planning to rehab a dollhouse anyway and my daughter is desperate to make content, but is far too young to do so without absolute guidance. Your channel is so inspirational. Thanks for doing this Q&A!
That's a great idea! You can email me at queencitydollminiatures@gmail.com if you'd like some pointers for creating a channel.
It's so nice to meet you, I have watched your site many times. I will continue because I love your projects . I feel like in a world of madness, a community of people is so valuable. You have personalized yourself and what a smart idea. Count me into your community.
Thank you so much! Welcome 🤗 I agree. Life can be really heavy. Escaping to a miniature world & community is so therapeutic.
That was great getting to know a bit about the woman behind the calm voice.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
You and Bentley house channels are the reason i had the courage to start making miniatures ❤ i love your tutorials, jokes and voice 😂thank you so much for your channel 🥰
I'm so happy you're making minis! Crafting is so good for the heart and soul. Thank you so much 😊
This video has made me feel less anxious about the mess ups I make, And it was lovely getting to know you 😊
I'm so glad! Watching Little Gretchen's Workshop helped me feel better about making mistakes. She's so good at pivoting and letting it roll off her back.
Anxiety is a horrible disabler.
Just remember they are handmade things and are meant to look handmade. Otherwise we would buy them
@@queencityminisl think my addiction to miniatures is making me learn to not care so much, because never before would I have sat for 5 hours making miniature books, or mushrooms, 😂
I laughed so loud when you said you cant commit to the right colour wallpaper and paint, because that is me.I procrastinate for days before I start a new room. I never make the wallpaper permanent, I attach it to the wall with double sided tape so I can remove it if I don't like it. I love your channel.
I watched a self-help RUclips video the other day about procrastination. I have the perfectionism procrastination issue where I don't do a thing bc I think it needs to be done very well before I do it. This isn't for everything. Just some things (like my secret project that's coming out in a week). Things I have decided matter a lot.
I love the idea of attaching the paper with tape. I think I'll do that if I have a dollhouse I may want to keep redecorating.
Thank you very much 😊
I'm always interested in getting to know the RUclipsrs I watch, and you answered many things I was curious about. Thank you for sharing! ❤
You are so welcome! I'm a very curious person. Q&A's aren't the most popular videos, but I love them. I like to know more about the people I watch too
@@queencityminisI talk about things on my videos, so sometimes I share little stories and reminiscences about my life. I'm 67, so part of the purpose for having my channel is to leave a record about myself for whoever might be interested. I'm doing this instead of writing my autobiography, which I started years ago, but just looks like too much work at this point! ❤
That was fun! 🎉❤🎉
Enjoyed getting to know more about you. I have liked and appreciated you from the beginning, but even more so now. You're a natural at miniatures!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that 😊
Enjoyable video. Having cats or any fur babies is like having children, only I would love a house full of fur babies. Always enjoy all that you do. I learn so much from you. Thanks
You are so kind :) I was a dog person, but I'm all about my cats now. They're so easy and fun.
This was interesting. Thank you. I love your channel so much not just because of your content but also your voice and you don’t play music in the background. I have learned so much from you!
Thank you! I actually do play music in the background, but it's very soft. You can only hear it if you have good hearing (which I don't 😆). Background music is usually -25 db, but I keep mine at -35.
The moment I have been waiting for! It’s been bugging me for months that you didn’t have a Patreon. So much to look forward to.
Thank you for joining! I appreciate it 😊
I knew I really liked you! I have been a professional caregiver for seniors for the past 25 years. It’s a very rewarding job although my back is just about spent. 🥴🤷🏻♀️ I still love it very much.
You are so funny! I love watching your channel. 🫶🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That is awesome! It's a rewarding, difficult job for sure. Thanks for watching :)
I joined when I saw only one of your videos. I like your voice and the step by step explanation you give. I like that you are impatient because I'm impatient myself. I really enjoy your channel.
Thank you! Some people are willing to spend 5 hours making one thing, but I just don't have it in me. I'm always looking for easier ways and shortcuts.
Go you for being childless by choice! Full support. You're so cool.
Thank you! I wanted to clarify so people don't think we're infertile but want kids.
It's nice to get to know a bit about you. You are my go to miniaturist and I do find you very relaxing to listen to.
Thank you! It's really funny that people say they like my voice since the Boston accent is the worst accent, according to polls. I do think I don't have much of a Massachusetts accent though. I don't like Boston accents myself 😆
My 8-year-old daughter has now started asking to watch you and we thoroughly enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing, and I’m so glad you overcame your anxiety issues. I get it! I’m in grad school to become a social worker/therapist, so I’ve learned so much beyond my personal experience. It’s a big deal that you faced & overcame that so congratulations. “You’re our best RUclips friend”, said Ella😂🎈
Thank you so much! I am very proud and grateful to have overcome my anxiety disorder. It certainly felt impossible, but I did it.
Thank you Ella!
Always loved the ring. Also Love that it isn't real diamonds. I've never cared for them myself. No idea why, but I do LOVE Swarovski crystals, and have always told my husband if he ever gets me anything that's supposed to be a diamond, I'd rather have a Swarovski crystal in sterling silver or even surgical steel. Thanks for the Q&A.
That's a beautiful idea! I love that
Thank you for sharing more information about yourself. I have been fascinated by miniatures since I was a child (that was a very long time ago). I love your channel because you are so detailed, and you give us lots of great tips. Looking forward to more tutorials. Thank you!
Thank you so much 😊 I wish I'd gotten into miniatures a bit earlier in life because I am having an absolute blast.
This video was a great idea. It's nice to meet you, Shyla(?).
Shyra. Pronounced like Shy-ruh. Thank you!
That was loads of fun. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it. I thought the voiceover would be easier if I'm just talking about myself, but not really 😆 It was still fun to make.
@@queencityminis Everyone loves your voice so next time just read us the phone book. 😉
Even your cougars are coming in the miniature size of a cat!!🙀
So true 😂
That is a nice little kit, and nice to get to know you a bit better ❤
Thank you! 🤗 I love Robin Betterley kits. They are the absolute best.
It was great to hear more about you Shyra! Keep up the great work😊
Thank you! Will do 😁
Finally had time to see your latest video. Thank you for taking the time and answering my question. I too was in the medical field which I loved. Locked down happened got laid off and my miniature hobby began with Ara. Not to mention getting so inspired by both you and her. Have a wonderful day 💐
That's so funny! We have a very similar backstory. Thank you for your question :)
Oh my goodness. It's the only thing I purchase as a treat for myself...Moissanite jewelry.
I love your minis. I've been a miniaturist for over 35 years and I love watching others showing their skills and techniques. I'm not into the technology part of it myself. More power to those that can deal with technology. Thank you for this video. ❤
Wow! Most people have never even heard of moissanite. That's awesome 😎
@@queencityminis I think that the lab stone makes way for a variety of beautiful settings. I love the rings, pendants, and cross that I purchased. I started my small collection slowly because even though the prices are decent, it can add up pretty much, before you know it. You have a beautiful setting. Sometimes, I wish YT would allow a pic or two on the platform. I would have loved to show you the pieces I have. They're all beautiful. Enjoy! 🙂
@@7spiritualcompass706 I hear you about pics! That would be nice. Check out eBay. There are used moissanite pieces on there periodically.
My ring was custom made for $580. Amazing price.
Hello, Shyra, nice to get to know you. I do love your calm voice and straightforward presentation style; your efficient use of viewers' time is much appreciated, thank you. I think I read in comments on another video that you have been asked if you are in N.C. Just FYI, this is probably because the nickname of Charlotte, N.C. is the Queen City. Your miniatures journey is really still just beginning; I'll enjoy sharing it with you.
Thank you! When I edit, the video becomes shorter and shorter bc of my own impatience. My long videos are packed with multiple mini tutorials. I think the succinct nature of my videos also lends itself it well to binge watching 😉
Hi Shyra, I really enjoyed your video and getting to know you a little better. I absolutely love your work and look forward to all your tutorials. Thank you for sharing your talents. Cheers Robyn😊
Thank you so much!
Ok, you are awesome and thank you for being so honest about your channel.
Always! Thank you 😊
To be honest, I loved hearing your story about your decision anxiety and selling the house because of it as I usually just put the half-finished thing in a box for 10 years until I pull it out and can magically finish it perfectly. Sometimes you just need those 10 years to think about it, ya know? 😂
Right? Maybe I should have hung onto the house for a decade to see what happened.
Thanks for introducing me to Robin Betterley's miniature kits!
Great video!
Thanks for watching! Robin Betterley's kits are the absolute best. I love them so much.
Thank you for sharing more about yourself ❤
My pleasure 😊
I think I have seen every video. I love getting notifications from your channel 🎉
You're the best! Thank you
Had to jump on here quick once you said moissanite!!! It’s my fav! So much better than diamonds in every way. AND it came from outer space?!😍😘💗 chef’s kiss to how perfect moissanite is! Okay, another reason that you are my fav and I love you.
Love it! It's so beautiful. My ring was custom made of yellow gold, white gold, and 5 moissanite stones. The center stone is Old European Cut. The four side stones are Hearts & Arrows. My ring cost $580 😎
Love watching you do your craft....thanks for sharing & letting us watch. Miniatures have always been a favorite of mine. Dabbled a bit in them years ago, nothing as good as what you do on your channel here, but it was fun. Maybe one day I'll try to do something & see how it turns out. 😉. Again thanks for sharing! Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!!
I think no matter how it turns out, making miniatures is worthwhile. I find it so relaxing.
Thanks for sharing! I'm also in my mid 30s and have recently started my own miniature youtube channel. It is so much fun and I wish I had started it sooner! I love watching your channel ❤
I'm subscribed! I love your leather poufs. The easier version with the white lines was my fave.
I found your channel through watching Bentley house. I love your style and have learned some great techniques from you.
Awesome! Thank you! Did you discover my channel through our recent collab? I made minis for Bentley House Minis' Fairfield dollhouse. She made two chairs for my Gryffindor Common Room.
What a cute kit to make. I remember watching you when you first started. You’ve grown quickly. I’m not crafty but enjoy watching you create. Your comment about a nightmare from a non horror movie made me laugh. I’m goth and don’t watch horror. I don’t watch tv period. Gave it up in 2020. I read a lot.
I have grown quickly. I'm so surprised and pleased. I'm very grateful.
Goth but scared of horror 😆 That's pretty amusing. I started reading Goosebumps books bc I loved them as a kid. They're honestly scary!
I don't have cable bc it's crazy expensive, but I'm always watching RUclips and streaming.
@@queencityminis I love Goosebumps! I like scary but can’t do horror anymore. I don’t watch tv/movies/streaming - got rid of it all. I don’t watch many channels on YT either. I got over the ads. I paint and read, workout. I might try to make my own mandrake ornament!
Great video! Have always enjoyed your videos and admire your talents! This video only adds to my appreciation of you and your work!
Sounds like you’ve made some great positive personal steps in your life’s journey! Those things add to our creativity and confidence, right?
Again, many thanks and continued success and happiness to you! Kathleen
Thank you! I've definitely overcome a lot of challenges. It makes me appreciate everything so much more, big and small. I wasn't trying to make a miniature pun, but there you go 😊
@@queencityminis great mini pun! 🙂.
I liked this very much. I laughed when you said that you did the flooring and the roof shingles then sold the house because you couldn't deal with the rest of the decisions. I've focused on accessory making because although I have the whole tape wire kit, it intimidates me. So I can't really proceed. Thanks for reminding me that it's just a dollhouse. lol I'll make a few Christmas wreaths and try again in a month or so. 😆
It's just a dollhouse! So important to keep in mind. I'm intimidated by tape wire, too. That's another part of the reason I chickened out. Here's an amazing, simple tape wire tutorial. Just the right amount of info without being overwhelming.
ruclips.net/video/z-FecKB7EDA/видео.htmlsi=49vOxcYExL-sf30T
I like the tactic of making some Christmas wreaths. Do something fun and laidback to get back in a good mindset.
I have to say that I think you are who "I thought you were".....................Its nice to know a bit about you, and I look forward all future interactions. And your approach to the hobby is much akin to my own, so while I almost religiously follow Bently House and Julie Warren's Bits and Pieces (and a few others!!), I am becoming addicted to your channel.....................Thank You for sharing your passion and creativity!
You're welcome! I love Bentley House Minis and Julie Warren. Julie's work is so clean and meticulous. I love watching her work, but I know I'd be winging it rather than measuring so accurately like she does. My impatience can't be tamed.
Great video! I loved hearing your back story, I have been following you from the start. I really enjoy what you do. Keep ‘em coming. ❤
Thank you! I've been seeing comments from your right from the beginning. I appreciate you ☺️
Bentley House Mini's, Little Gretchen's Workshop, and your channel have all been my reintroduction and reinspiration to miniatures! My sister, mother, and I made mini's, collected them, and built houses in the 80's and into the 90's, but life took over and it all just fizzled 😞. Like many, COVID really took away the things i enjoyed outside so I refocused and as fate would have and RUclips played it, the 3 channels I mentioned above floated into my "suggestions" and the rest is history! I want to start a channel of my own so bad! But i have ZERO idea how to do that.
Thank you so much! I wonder how many people started making minis during Covid. There seem to be quite a few of us.
Starting a channel was overwhelming to me. I film my footage with a Canon camera and edit my videos on Premiere Pro. The learning curve was steep, but there are so many tutorials for editing on RUclips.
@@queencityminis I get very overwhelmed with so many tutorials. It's like my brain is on mega overload and I get frustrated and then all discombobulated. I would say there are a lot of people who started a hobby of some sort during COVID, and it does seem to be a common theme in the mini world. I love your nonchalant spirit when you're making mini's, It's absolutely the best medicine! Thank you!! 🥰
Still love your dry sense of humor and delivery! I watch your videos on x2 speed, so you seem pretty snappy to me lol
You make a lot of funny little quips, but I think my fave was the time you talked about making a thing out of a random piece of plastic you found outside.
It was especially funny because the thing was just a tiny piece of plastic. Picturing you walking outside and seeing the little thing, picking it up and inspecting it, deciding to keep it... Cracked me up!
That's exactly what happened with the piece of plastic 😆 I scan the ground during walks looking for trash and picking it up. It's unsettling when I pick something up thinking it's hard plastic and it ends up being soft. Blech
I up the speed on most videos I watch too 😉
I loved this "get to know you" type video! You are absolutely amazing! Will you please do another one while assembling another Tiny Book kit??
Ooh, the tiny books are so good! I'll definitely do another video like this. I still have three more circus kits.
My journey seems identical to yours, only it took me twice as long to go back to my youthful desires. I, too, had many Barbies and accoutrements (my dad was a Mattel executive!) and played with them until I was 13, at which point I gave everything to a family friend and regretted this decision bitterly soon thereafter. I made a lot of things myself for my Barbies, including a large cardboard house and clothing. I have always had a fascination with miniatures.
Wow! I wonder how many of us gave away our Barbie house at the age of 13 and regret it. I hope someone somewhere is still using my old Barbie Dream House.
There's a circus in Sarasota that features only kids. I think it's called The Sailor Circus. My daughter loves it! Every year they have a Christmas show. My daughter's very very fav performers are the Arial Silks. She thought that was magnificent!
I'm glad you got over your anxiety. Mine seems sewn into my soul. I have OCD too. My son has Tourette's disorder which he got from yours truly!
And you ARE very nice!
Thank you so much :) I didn't see any aerial performances until I was in my late 20s. It really is beautiful. It's so much fun to do.
Thank you :) I've come a long way.
I would have thought you have been doing mini longer. I just started a year and a half ago and remember finding your channel on a FB mini group. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much 😊
I really enjoyed this! And I’m shocked that you’ve only been building for 3 years? I mean it in a good way- you’re so talented and resourceful. I’ve gotten quite a few hacks from you ❤
Thank you so much!! It has truly flown by. I can't believe it's been 5 years.
I finally started my greenhouse mini from a glass display cabinet I purchased and it is not as scary as I thought.
I also just purchased a 3 level dolls house that is 130cm tall and 80cm wide. It was $20 from the opshop or second hand store if your not from Australia.
I've already started to replace the wonky floors and about to redecorate the exterior.
If I pretty it up enough and make some basic furniture from cardboard by Christmas im going to sell it and use that money towards a laser cutter so I can make furniture myself.... possibly even sell the kits locally because no one does that in my town.
This is all inspired by your channel and your easy to follow instructions.
I watch the other mini channels but I've found your videos to be the most inspiring and easy to follow for my personality.
I am so happy you dealt with your anxiety and got on top of it.
I pray you end up making enough from your videos so you can choose to leave your other jobs if you want.
Thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment! That dollhouse sounds like a score. I love your idea of making and selling dollhouse kits.
Some libraries have creative centers. You may be able to use a public laser cutter. Worth looking into.
Thank you so much 😊
Great video, I enjoyed getting to learn about how you started. Love your tutorials, they definitely help me when I’m creating miniatures.
I'm so glad! Thank you ☺️
Howdy, I so enjoy your videos - nice to meet you ... great work and great videos - you're a wonderful inspiration.
Thank you so much! Nice to meet you, too
What a great video. Thank you for sharing. I can relate to a lot of what you said. Keep going, I can't wait till your videos come on.
Thank you so much 😊 I love making minis and sharing them. I don't see myself stopping, ever!
Thank you that was great.
I watched your video on how to make miniature books, which I loved, then made a few of my own. Some of them were ok, others not so good, but I love them all. ❤
That's great that you made some minis! You can hide the less than perfect ones. Not everything I make is perfect either.
I enjoyed getting to know your story . I sold my dollhouse to buy a reborn . I regret it . I understand the Barbie house story . I struggle with ptsd .Your videos are relaxing I agree with the other commenters. Maybe one day you can tell us your overcoming anxiety story. It gives me hope .
I'll definitely tell my story of overcoming anxiety. I still can't believe it sometimes. My life was so different when I was agoraphobic. For years, I barely left my house.
@@queencityminis that is where I am at sure ptsd is a bit different but it has gotten so bad I can’t go out I avoid going out . I just recently got a new dr who found herself taking me off meds that worked for a decade for me without reason other than they are addictive . The drug crisis is so sad because people with pain or in my case ptsd I’m having trouble getting treatment for well documented ptsd . She simply removed the medicine because it was a benzodiazepine. Unfortunately depression meds make me worse .
In a nut shell not having help made me realize how much I want to be better because depending on a dr to write a prescription is still kind of just as helpless . I believe we are in a healthcare crisis and drs don’t have compassion the way they once did moral has gone to all time low . I was okay until The med change . At first I tried what she said and figured maybe she cares and she is right I don’t want to be on something that is “addictive” three med failures later and she refuses to place me back on what worked for me and it left me in. A place where all I Do is isolate because going out I have wound up in the ER for tachycardia. This left me helpless . I just honestly got so tired of it I started frantically searching for new drs .. but even if I go to the new dr and get the symptoms under control it doesn’t change I’m dependent on a person and a medication for help . So I have been trying to lean more on prayer and reading the word of God and going back to art and watching art channels and sermons . I’m basically watching my dr commit malpractice and because she can clearly see I’m in area (clinic) in low income threshold what am I gonna do sue -I hope to one day overcome as you did because I don’t want to depend on anyone or anything for my peace .
My favorite thing you made was the witch cottage❤I learned so much from that video 😊love your channel
Thanks so much 😊 The ideas just kept flowing from that one. It was so much fun!
What a great video!!! it was so nice to get to know you a little bit and so much of what you said is relatable whether it's about anxiety, insecurity or picking a wallpaper lol.❌⭕️😁
Thank you 😊
I loved this! It was so interesting getting to know you! Thank you for sharing so much and I just want you to know that I appreciate you!
Thank you so much!!
Love your videos, I’ve learned a lot. This was a really interesting Q&A!
Thank you! I've watched a whole bunch of Q&A's, yet somehow I still wasn't sure what format to go with.
@@queencityminis you nailed it. I’ve watched enough that I avoid most 😂. Yours was concise and interesting. Your journey and mine into minis has been very similar. I started a year or more in the before times, pre-covid. I’ve mostly worked from kits but have actually been inspired by your videos to start making my own creations and doing some kit bashing. I really appreciate what you’ve put out there for people like me to get inspired by.
Thank you for sharing! Your voice is soothing and calming. I have enjoyed your content and will look into your Patreon.
Thank you so much! You can join as a free member on Patreon as well. I post exclusive content as well as content for everyone.
Thank you so much for the Q/A, , very fun!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You have the best dry humor. I am still thinking about the "need" vs. "knead" discussion, lol. The night or rather morning I posted that comment I was exhausted from a day of creating and editing the next video. So, I was not thinking at full capacity. Congratulations on your engagement! The ring is just lovely and so ethically responsible. Ara is a favorite as well. I look forward to her post, but if I miss any I binge watch as I did with some of your videos the other evening.
Thank you so much :) No judgment here.
I have binge watched BHM videos so much! It's such a treat. I have watched the abandoned coffee shop videos so many times.
@@queencityminis , That video along with the Bettlejuice series has to be one of my favorites. I adore the Bistro Set.
I love that I’m not the only one that listens to RUclips because I’m too busy building my minis to watch it 😂 it was great to get to know you a little bit more, besides minis, and to see more of your personality come through. Based on this video, I swear we might be long lost twins separated at birth!! From the crafting as a kid, to debilitating anxiety and overcoming it, to baking for an outlet, and not being able to watch horror movies! Ty for doing this Q&A it was great!!
That's so funny! We do seem to have a lot in common. I'm so glad you were able to overcome your anxiety disorder as well.
There are some channels where I have to actually watch bc I don't wanna miss a thing, but I do mostly listen. This is why I probably shouldn't be so meticulous when editing my own videos 😆
I thought that you've been making miniatures for a lot longer than 3 years. You are very good! I think that there are people like you who have the ability of an artist, then there are people like me. I need instructions. I just can't visualize creativity. Don't ask me to put together a flower arrangement. It's not going to look good. My skills need to have structure. I was a computer programmer and took classes to be an accountant. I really enjoyed both fields.
BTW, Ara did get her first project into a museum, but she worked on the project for 11 years. I'm sure that there were a few items that didn't make into the house. Ara is amazing. I can see how she has gotten even better over the years that I've watched her.
I am lucky in that sense. I am not good at planning, but it works out for me. It's like I can't even think of an idea until I get going, then the ideas flow.
Good point about the Addams Family Dollhouse! I'm sure her skills evolved a lot over those 11 years. The dollhouse is actually out of the museum now. Now the Captain's Quarters is there.
Thanks for sharing. ❤ ❤
You are so welcome
Thank you, Shyla for sharing about you and yours. I was a little relieved when you shared your past occupations. It happens I was a little rude with an Insurance rep whose voice was similar to yours. 🫢Property insurance is a charged issue with many home owners. Thank you for being you.❤
Bahaha 😂 No, I wasn't that insurance rep.
My name is Shyra. Most people hear it as Shyla. I should've spelled it out on the screen. I thought of it, but forgot.
@queencityminis I thought I typed Shyra... I like your name, and usually, I spell check before sending. My apologies.
Loved hearing about you ❤ you were my inspiration to start making minis 🤩 I've made some fun stuff building off inspiration from watching you 😅 and I agree with the unsung hero...wood glue 😅🎉
That is awesome! Making minis is such a great escape for me. I hope you're enjoying yourself.
I enjoyed this video so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Aw, thank you for this!! I would have guessed you're still in your 20s, Girl!! (Based on the few photos you have in your thumbnails...) I was curious about your stunning engagement ring, because of the one video where you used a tiny diamond for an item - a vanity set? - and said it was the largest diamond that you own. Moissanite is quite lovely! Always look forward to your videos!! 🥰
Haha, yes! I was wondering if anyone else would catch that comment I made about those being the only diamonds I own.
Thank you :) People do tell me I look young.
I have often wondered if you were in New Hampshire. I remember you mentioned Earth and Tree miniatures and wondered if it was the one in Amherst. I'm in northern Vermont and have visited there once. It was great and hoped to get back there again soon! Thanks for sharing this!
Yes, Earth & Tree in Amherst. I love making my way out there and visiting their store. It's the absolute best dollhouse store in the country.
So nice getting to know more about you!!❤
Thank you! 🤗
I too started making minis in 2020 i needed an outlet because i have cptsd and the pandemic was messing with my mental health. I too started binge watching Bently House Minis, Ara is amazing and has been an inspiration and source of support.
I absolutely love your videos, i love how you make things out of every day items and i know what you mean with decision paralysis. I went from mini projects to a slighlty bigger one to throwing myself in at the deep end with a 1/12th scale house. Finished one room in there and now currently growling at that space that will be a kitchen but i dont know how to get started and the imposter syndrome is telling me i cant do it 😂
I'm glad you found a creative outlet.
Whitney LaBrie built a room box that slides inside one of the rooms of her 15 room dollhouse. Maybe if you make the kitchen in a removable room box, it'll feel easier to make decisions.
We'd be a match made in heaven. I don't love doing the smaller stuff--what I call the "accoutrements." But I love planning and building things. And I love the larger decorating--wallpaper, flooring etc. I too hate all things that have to do with numbers, including measuring, but I have worked to overcome this (sort of). I try to find ways around numbers. I also hate horror movies. And I'd rather saw my own arm off than electrify a house, although I am trying (sort of) to get over that. I also am very impatient but tenacious. By gosh, I WILL have my way with this mini thing. Thanks for sharing your story.
Apparently Ara from Bentley House house Minis is the same way. She has a background as an architect, so it makes sense that she likes designing and creating the spaces.
We love all things Ara. She and Julie Warren, and more recently Gretchen and yourself are my favorite go-to's. And each of you with such unique styles. I wish I weren't too lazy to start a channel. I have learned some useful stuff. Just cannot fact the learning curve. Plus I am too impatient. Too much swearing. Hahahahahah.@@queencityminis
Hi Shyra. I am a patreon of yours now. Really great to hear more about you answering the questions and was quite good knowing. I always love seeing your videos and hearing your calm sweet voice . I may never get over my mental illness and depression but trying to find things that will help 😊
I am also impatient person and especially having to wait for quite a lot of things
Don't give up hope! You wouldn't believe how bad my mental health was for about 8 long years. I struggled with PTSD, panic attack disorder, agoraphobia (I barely left my house), OCD, and depression. I spent hours at a time pacing back and forth just to pass the time until I could fall asleep again. I can't it believe it now. It feels like someone else's life. www.anxietycoach.com/ This Dr. and his book, Panic Attacks Workbook, helped me change my life.
I've recently discovered ACT and the Happiness Trap. That would've helped me so much back when I was struggling. It's amazing.
Take care
@@queencityminis Thanks Shyra! Hope everything is going better for you? I struggle with panic attack disorder, could have OCD don’t know, bad depression. I try to find things to past the time. Can be very hard to sleep at night and get a few hours sleep and worry about so many things. Thanks for the link and that’s great that it helped change your life.
That would have been good if you did discovered ACT and the Happiness Trap while you were struggling and that’s good you know about it lately.
Thanks and hope you take care as well 😊
Thanks that was great
Thanks for watching 😊
I really love this video to get to know you more! I also gave away my first dollhouse and REALLY regret it 😢
The moral of the story is just donate money. Do not give away your dollhouse!
Such a Q & A vídeo from Y♥️U was something I had wished for this morning, and the algorithms gods answered me in the afternoon?! Now, seriously: thank you so much for sharing about yourself, Shyra! It indeed indeed builds community. Can’t wait to join your Patreon!
Aww, thanks! I appreciate that so much 😊
This was a nice get to know you video. Please never change your format of video with how you are so to the point and relaxing voice~ it is the best. Also, often I get bogged down with thinking my dollhouse needs to be so perfect and you’re right that really sucks the joy out of it. Like you said- have fun and keep it moving!
Thank you! I won't change my format. I like providing to the point videos that are informative for people who make minis, but are still entertaining for people who don't make miniatures. I think videos become less entertaining when there's too much detailed instruction.
Hi Shyra! So nice to hear about you and your life! It would seem, impatience is a common characteristic in this community. Lol! I really love this little kit you did. ❤I love anything circus. What did you think of it? 😍✨
I love every Robin Betterley kit I've ever done. They're so well made and I love supporting a small, artisan owned business. It was so much fun to assemble and really easy.
I missed the live, but this was very interesting.
Thank you 😊
I'm excited about your Patreon. I put this video on pause and immediately went and signed up as a $3 member! I also rejoined Bentley House Minis. I find miniatures are taking up more and more of my day. I can do that cause I was on disability for 10 years and have now transitioned to SS retirement. Congrats on your Patreon, hope it goes well for you. P.S. - the reason I never got a ratoo... same as yours.
Thank you so much for joining :)
I think I may never get a tattoo. Everything I've thought of is something I'm glad I don't have.
Channels like yours inspired me to do tiny reels and voiceovers for my jewelry instagram. People seem to really like that cuz you can point out details and things you especially like. But it’s ridiculous the time it takes even when it’s 30 seconds
Oh I know! RUclips made it easy and fast to rework videos into Shorts, so I've been doing that lately. That's been fun.
So stoked that you joined Patreon! Signed up right away. Thanks for sharing about your anxiety disorder as well. I’m glad you have come a long way since. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! My life today is so much better. I'm so grateful 😊
You inspire me ! I want to start making miniatures so bad! Ive bought an old dollhouse i plan to redo and so many miniatures but i cant seem to get started! I dont know if im scared of failing or what, but i hope i get the courage to try something soon!

I think these mini mugs are a great beginner project. They're fun and easy to do with stuff you already have. You can paint them with nail polish. You can also start with paper straws, if you have them.
Another great beginner project is making a mini book. There are so many tutorials.
I started making minis by repairing broken furniture, then modifying existing mini furniture with paint etc, then I customized some mini kits. There are lots of ways to get started. Just START. It doesn't matter how they turn out. It's about having fun and being creative.
Feels great to know that there are quite a few similarities. This was a great video. I also enjoyed the adorable mini kit you made. I know without a doubt you can make a doll! I can't wait to see what you create. I will be ordering espresso clay to start a friend for Margo, I also thought about creating hands for commissions 😆 😍
Thank You so much for sharing such personal info about yourself. You have definitely overcome anxiety, I don't think you would be able to do this if you hadn't!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️🥰
Oh my 😆 Making hands is the worst part. I'm sure you'd have some takers if you made hands on commission.
Thank you! My anxiety disorder was such a huge obstacle in my life for 8 years or so. I was agoraphobic and barely left my house. It made me so grateful for my life today.
@@queencityminis oh and I love the Lumineers, I could see why you would listen to them!🥰💖
Thank you for answering all my questions on my other account! I just got this one running you have super inspired me. I appreciate that you help bring up others as well! I have been making minitures for 2 years too scared to share.. you have given me a hope so thank you!!! Much love from arizona!
That's great! I love having a channel and an audience. I wish you the best!
I can't find your channel. Have you posted a video yet?
@@queencityminis 3 videos ❤️
Very nice, thank you ❤
Thank you 😌
This was really nice. Thank you for sharing about yourself. I do enjoy your relaxing voice and your sense of humor! Your creativity is remarkable and your attention to detail makes what you create so special. I'm glad you decided to start this RUclips channel- I have learned much from you! 🥰❣
Thank you so much!
I enjoyed this video and getting to know more about you. I've enjoyed listening to you and watching your videos for a while now. I love your dry sense of humor (and Studson's) and the fact that your fingers are usually dirty with paint and/or glue (you really get into what you're doing). Please don't become such a YT sensation and start sporting a high-end, long nail manicure, OK?! 😆Stay cool, Shyra!
😆 I have thought of painting my nails so they're more presentable, but they always get ruined. I just can't stop myself from eating while the nail polish is setting lol
I love Studson! He's my favorite non-miniature RUclipsr.
@@queencityminis, 🤣🤣🤣
Wow great to get to know you, everything you do is such an inspiration to me. From RSA
Wow, thank you!
Thank you for sharing somethings about yourself. I’ve watched all of your videos that I’ve been able to find and it’s nice to know who you are! I really like the collaboration you and Ara did and now I’m excited to see how you finish the room box. Just go for it!! How is your name spelled?
Keep up the wonderful work and I’ll look for your patreon page.
Thank you so much! My name is Shyra, pronounced like Shy-ruh.
Was so much fun to get to know you! I saw the miniatures you made for Ara and they were wonderful. You and Ara are my favorite miniaturists on utube Your ring is beautiful 💜💜💜
Thank you so much! I was hoping to start a channel and just have people watch and interact with me about minis. I am beyond grateful for doing a collab with Ara and having 40k subscribers 😲 I can't even believe it.
Really nice knowing you! I’m guessing your new project is miniature related? Bentley Minis is my favorite miniaturist besides you.
Thank you so much! Yes! I made Spider-Man's apartment diorama.
