There are so many tips & tricks to see! Learn how to make miniature cement tiles, a tiny egg, a faux wrought iron finish, and more while I make accessories, food, and furniture for the Goose Egg Dollhouse.
I'm working on transforming a REAL goose egg into a 1:48 scale dollhouse. The creator of the kit, Jill Castoral, made a flower shop inside a her egg. I took a class at the the Guild Show in September 2022 and began the process of completing the kit. The International Guild of Miniature Artisans has a show every year.
I'm making a charming home ooccupied by a beekeeper. The egg sits in a cast resin tree with a wooden base. I'll be adding more detail to the base in a future videl. I'm so excited about this fun project and happy to share it with all of you.
Enjoy!

Here's the kit for the frames I assembled from Robin Betterley. It's $10! The sizes lend themselves well to 1:48, 1:24, & 1:12 scale.
Some of my favorite things:

Your sense of humor is killing me. "My heat gun has since died so this is hard for me to watch." I know the feeling. Every time I eat Smart Food White Cheddar Popcorn or cook frozen shrimp for shrimp cocktail I think about my cat who passed in July 2021. She had thyroid disease and was almost 20 so it wasn't unexpected - she lived a long life. She loved those two foods. I can't eat them without still wishing I could share them with her. So missing something you once had is understandable.
What a quirky cat 🐈 She had great taste in snacks. I'm sorry for your loss ❤️
Even when they have longer-than-expected lives, it’s still never enough time. 😢
"But you know I didn't stop there" you are funny but I love it. lol Inspiration is the name of the game. Thanks for sharing I like listening to you. Have a great day
thank you. I appreciate that 😊
How ADORABLE!! You are just such a great miniaturist and an inspiration I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS !!!!!
Thank you so much! That means a lot
I keep trying to convince my sister to give me her silicone pot thingy, it has a tiny brick pattern instead of honeycomb 😂
Just borrow it and return it with tiny fragments of cement in it 😆
@@queencityminis 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
You are my favourite miniaturist and my go to for most of my work and you still amaze me with you talent ( gush gush).
Aww. Thank you so much!
Here’s a good tip I discovered when making tiny round wooden legs. Get a drill, Dremel or flex shaft and open the chuck and insert the toothpick. Close down the chuck tightly and then sand or file while you are running the tool. It helps to have one that has a variable speed so you aren’t running it at a really high speed. I especially like my flex shaft for this because it has a foot pedal which allows me to run it at whatever speed I want and I have two hands free. If you’re using a Dremel or a drill then just clamp it to a table top and now you have a mini lathe to use.
Well that is genius. 🥰 Thank you for sharing!
Such a great tip! I own a Dremel but I never use it. I need to get into the habit because it's such a useful tool. It's currently packed because I'm moving, but once I set up a new studio I'll make sure I use it.
Probably going to watch this a dozen more times to really take in all the versatile techniques you demonstrated. I’m so excited about the egg shells and blueberry loaf! The wrought iron and the tiny tiles!!!
Thank you! I love making a bunch of minis like this for a project. It's a pain to edit and do the voiceover, but the crafting and discovering is fun. All of your feedback is much appreciated 🐱
The cracked egg! 🤯
So many clever things!
Thank you! I love when an idea works out exactly as I imagined it would
I really love the idea of using the medical tape to prevent fraying too much, but allowing it to fray slightly. The eggs are cool, too!!
Thank you! It worked so well.
Thank you so much, you always inspire me.
You are so welcome! Thank you 😊
How in the world does this channel not have more subscribers and views?😊
I believe you are so talented!👏
Hear, hear! Thank you 😊
Using the silicone heat pad as a mold, brilliant!❤
Thank you! Apparently it's from the Dollar Tree
I have literally no explanation for it, but something about miniatures makes me feel so joyous. I'd describe it as "celebratory". Seeing that teeny tiny little egg makes me want to run around giving out free high fives. Like how some people feel after watching their football team make a particularly impressive goal. But with impossibly small kitchen items.
I feel the same way!
@@queencityminis you certainly have an insane aptitude for it! I can't imagine how much creativity and trial and error it takes to discover all the strategies and materials you have. And you're so generous in sharing every step with your audience!
I've been wanting to get into a new artistic hobby for a while, and I really think it's going to be making miniatures/dollhouses. The community seems very welcoming and supportive.
As an egger with pet geese, I love this! Since i have unlimited eggs, my dioramas are always in eggshells from button quail to ostrich.
That's so sweet! I love that
Making the cement tiles from the pot holder was Brilliant! I actually have that exact pot holder, it's fun to play with, lol. Wood Glue has become my favorite glue. I had made a chair and wanted to sit a teddy bear in it. Used some clay from DT and Hoped it would air harden. No such luck, it wound up being plasticine. 😐 Didn't want to wait until I bought more clay, so I painted the bear with a few coats of wood glue. When dry, painted him with acrylic and then some Mod Podge. That was over a month ago and the bear still looks perfect! As long as it's an item that isn't handled much or squished, regular clay coated in wood glue works! And he doesn't stick to his chair, that glue sealed the clay just right. 👍
That was a brilliant solution! I love coating things with wood glue. I learned that trick from Bentley House Minis.
Love your sense of humour :)
Thank you 😊
The chairs are so, so cute. So is the blueberry bread. RIP heat gun.
Thank you! Ugh, my poor heat gun. It happened suddenly. At least it didn't suffer. I'll buy a new one when I move. Probably a new used one.
All hail the Queen!! Jaw dropped on the egg shells!!!!
Thank you! So easy and so damn cute
Excited hairdresser watching you use end papers 😂
That's awesome 😆
I'm so happy, that you made again a "real" crafting video (not with a template/or less templates- and no Haul!), these are my favourites! Your calm mannor, on point, but with a prize of humor really inspired me (together with the videos of some japanese creators) to start my own channel, sharing a few ideas I havn't seen so far on YT- and it's real fun!😊So thanks for your inspiration! - Why don't we get to see the furnitured egg at the end, I'm so curious?!🙏
So freaking cool. I can see me rewatching this quite a few times.
I won't stop you! 😆
Priceless!
Just what I needed today…
Heck, your honesty and lightheartedness is a gift everyday; in these heavy, dark times… While life is hard and for many, not at all pleasant; you have the gift to create great art and walk people through - how-not-to-take-oneself-too-seriously and to enjoy the simple process… the journey. Thank you
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I've been through tough times in life, like so many others. It's nice to find a reprieve somewhere. I'm glad I can be that place for some people.
I kept saying-out loud- oh my GAWD, how adorable! Oh, no way! Whaaaaaat??? And this to the point that the human AND feline members of the household were looking at me funny. 😂
Absolutely brilliant work, amazing tiny details that make the project just stunning. So inspirational! Thank you for sharing your discoveries and techniques.
I love that 😆 thank you so much for watching
The egg is so cute!
I love it! It was so easy.
Every time you finished one it became my favorite. 😂 ❤
That's awesome 😆
hehehe 7ish mins in, those are for perming your hair! teehee, my mom used to use those on me when she would perm my hair at home. oh my goodness, i remember how she permed my bangs too, hey man, it was the 80s, and i was like 10 at the time :D i love your channel, thanks again for sharing your content, work and how you make your minitures. very inspiring. can't wait for more!
Oh wow! That's so interesting. People were still perming their hair when I was growing up in the 90s. I was born in '87. Thank you!
Omg!! The cement tiles are absolutely genius! I showed my sister and she has no interest in mini stuff but even she thought it was incredible lol
Awesome! Thank you 😊
Love, love, love the tiles. What a great idea to use a silicone pot holder. I also really like your frames. Have a wonderful day.
Thanks so much! 😊
Of course, you always make me laugh and smile! I really like what you did with everything in this project! You and Ara have taught me SO MUCH! Painting fabric with fabric softener is AMAZING, too! That is my most favorite treatment! Thank you, gurl. ❤
You're so welcome! I'm glad you're learning things and having a good time.
I Love the egg shells!! Everything is just Amazing and tiny! I was wondering do you think that paper clay would work too on the silicone potholder?
I'm not sure. It might be hard to fill and get into the details. Worth trying though.
Ok SO MANY good projects and clever ideas. Like making the spoon in two pieces and gluing them separately to the bowl?! So clever!!!
Thanks so much! 😊 I tend to take the path of least resistance. I don't like tedious things like trying to make one perfect spoon.
Love all your makes but so many in this video had me squealing "No way" in delight & awe at your ingenuity.
The little tiles & the chair cushion ties have to be my favourite cos they demonstrate the patience and lengths you go to, to bring these miniatures alive.
My mum would have loved your videos - particularly this Goose Egg one!
❤👏👏👏
Oh thank you! I don't consider myself a patient person at all, so that's always an interesting take for me 😁
I’ve been using wooden candle wicks when I need thin slabs of wood. Check it out as it looks very similar to that piece of “vintage thin flooring” you were talking about
That's a cool tip! Thanks
Oh gosh Shyra I loved every minute of this! So many brilliant makes and loads of ideas. That coupled with your hilarious dry wit!!!
Thank you 🤗
This was amazing from start to finish! I cannot believe all of the teeny tiny things that you made! And they are all so perfect! I’m gonna have to watch it again right away! Also I’m so sorry to hear about your heat gun RIP
Thank you so much 😊
The way you describe things is SO helpful and I love the delivery of your humour haha ❤❤❤
I'm so glad! Doing voiceover is my least favorite part, so I'm glad everyone appreciates it
truly amazing work !!!
Thank you! 😊
So adorable! 😊💕
Thank you! 😊
Those tiny eggshells are genius! 🥚 I love how your tiles look too. 😍
Thanks so much! 😊
Beautifully done 👍🏾
Much appreciated 😊
Thank you for so many great ideas!
You are so welcome!
Me encantó tu trabajo ,que aún es más laborioso Felicidades ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
?? QUESTION ??
Queen City. Is this Charlotte NC
Or Cincinnati Ohio. Just curious
Thanks Karen from Florida 🌴💕
Neither 😉
Some of my other favorite miniaturists here on YT are Making Miniatures with Josje (she is AMAZING), The Miniature World of Kit and Caboodlers and My Froggy.
I love them! Thanks for sharing
I want to tell you THANKS!! for the tip on double-sided tape. What a game changer. Making a project with foam board and cardboard. I was nervous about putting it all together with glue. I could see one big warp happening. Used double sided tape--done!! And I also love your humor. Look forward to all of your videos. Thanks!!!
You are so welcome! The double sided flooring tape is such a great hack to avoid warping. Warps are so frustrating.
Literally 🤯🤯🤯🤯 my mouth hit the floor and I ate a fly! 😂 This is crazy amazing and you don't have to ever 'stop there'...ever 🤷♀️😂! The details really are so important, and in my humble opinion they're what makes the difference between a ho-hum piece and an amazing piece. The vintage piece of wood you used for the cutting board is a piece of flooring strips that were included in house kits! I have a bunch and I'll send you some. I'll look for your address in the channel info. I really am amazed at how effortlessly you work in 1/44 scale. You do fantastic work in every mini scale, but it seems the smaller the scale the more incredible the pieces become. Have you been infected by the Rub n Buff virus too? It's inevitable, so just embrace it and let it become part of who you are 😂.
That's awesome! That makes sense bc I got the flooring strips with a vintage kit. It was open, so I assumed the flooring was purchased separately. I plan to get a PO Box once I move.
Oh yes! I'm addicted to Rub n Buff 😄
Thanks for reminding me that those ball stylus' can be found at Dollar Tree. I find many crafting item there. I recently ordered a pasta machine to make 18" doll food from polymer clay. This is the reason I watch miniature crafting. I pick up techniques and ideas but make items much larger (a lot easier to work with, too). I checked my local Hobby Lobby because I decided to buy a separate oven just for baking polymer clay. I remembered seeing one at Hobby Lobby when I was buying the clay. It was $50 so I promptly went to the nearby Walmart and checked the prices of the smaller toaster ovens. They had some for $19.98 and one was $13. I bought the $20 one. Why spend $50 for one that is just as good for $20 ? Hobby Lobby had clay sculpting tools but none included the ball stylus' so I didn't think they were worth the money to get a lot of tools when toothpicks or safety pins would work. Not sure where you get those small bells but I look for them after Christmas when they go on sale in the earring and jewelry section. I use them to decorate doll clothes (elf costumes) or to make doll necklaces. Always searching for "stuff" for miniature projects. Love your videos, techniques, and ideas. Thanks for posting.
I'm the same way. I love finding a bargain.
I got the bells in 25 cent grab bags from a local dollhouse store called Earth and Tree Miniatures miniatures.
I have subscribed, although I don't make any of these things I love seeing the minis. My aunt made a victorian doll house years ago from scratch (mainly). It was amazing to watch it grow. She was always adding things and changing things as she got new ideas. I still have my dolls house that my grandad made for me when I was five. He made all the furniture and carved bricks in wood for the front facade, it has glass windows! It's about 3ft square and has a fitted kitchen. Unfortunately he was taken ill before he could put in electrics like he did with my cousins one. I'm 54 this year. My aunt helped me renovate it for my daughters 4th birthday. I then did a few more bits to it for my granddaughter as part of her Christmas present in 2014 when she was five. Who knows maybe one day I'll have a great granddaughter to pass it on to. Have a great day from a chilly England 🏠🏴😃
The dollhouse your grandfather made sounds fantastic!
I hope you have a great grandchild to enjoy a dollhouse with. Thanks for watching!
Thank you 😂 I haven't made miniatures since Christmas, I quilting at the moment, also decorating weather. That was worth watching, amazing 💖 🦜
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Quilting seems like so much work. The one craft I don't do is sewing. Enjoy!
I need to order some kits. This is such an awesome video.❤ You are a Perfect Miniturist!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
Fantastic! So many awesome tips and tricks! The bread pan and eggs, too cute! Love this project!
Thanks so much! 😊
The Goose Egg House!! And so many lovely things with which to furnish it!! I am so utterly excited! So many of these creations are very clever; the egg is brilliant and easily accomplished. Thanks!! I can't wait to see it all come together!
I'm so sorry for the loss of your heat gun...
Thank you so much! I appreciate the condolences 😆
Amazing creativity figuring out how to make miniature tiles! Jaw dropping result😮
Thank you so much 😀 It was so easy. It worked exactly as I hoped.
21:15 I don't know how you come up with all these ideas or your unconventional methods of getting the results you want, but you definitely get the best tiny little items! I love everything you make!
P.S. I got a heat gun from Temu. It works well! Can you tell me where you got the little cocktail sticks? I got some from Temu, but they are very thin! Much smaller than a regular toothpick.
Thank you!
I have the Temu fancy toothpicks as well. I love the small size since I have the larger ones as well. I got my fancy toothpicks from Target.
Oh my gosh, so.clever 👍 I absolutely love the basket of flowers. Beautiful project 🎨
I have that potholder in black I'll have to try making tiles.
How fun! Give it a go. It was so easy.
😂😂u make me laugh so much with ur humour 🤣 😆 I just love it ,and your work is absolutely phenomenal it blows my mind with the idea s that you come up with and the details 😮😊 hugs from Australia xxx ❤❤
Thank you so much 😊
You have so many awesome ideas and tips! I think the egg shells were my very favorite, and something I had never thought of (so much easier than trying to make perfect egg shapes!!) Also I really want to check out that cement. It looks so easy and made great tiles! Thanks for another wonderful video that I'll definitely go back and watch again!
Thank you! The eggs were so easy to make.
I first discovered Henry Feather finish on Pinterest years ago. To this day, people use it to cover their laminate countertops to transform them into concrete countertops.
Sometimes I wonder why things aren't more obvious to me. Guess my potholder needs to come out of the kitchen. The little hexagonal wells just fill up with food anyway. It came from the Dollar Tree btw.
That's awesome! I had no idea where it came from.
Loved the techniques you showed! Since I'm going to be scaling down what I make from now on, I can really use these ideas! Keep them coming!
So glad! I plan to 😊
Completely useless info here, but end papers are used when giving/getting a perm. You wrap the end of the hair in the paper, then wrap it on the curler. It helps prevent the chemicals from destroying the thin tips of the hair (according to my mother, who is a cosmetologist.. heh) I've watched her use those things for years. I'll bet she has a lot of supplies I could use for miniature.. hrm. Thanks for the tip!!!
So interesting! I was imagining them being used in curlers. A perm makes more sense. Thanks for sharing 😌
Ur right "damn cute"! Favs were tile floor & blueberry bread. I 💙how u give us supply alternatives. TY
Thank you! You can be creative and use what you have. This is a flexible hobby.
That was beyond amazing. I've had a fascination with miniatures since early childhood. I'm in awe of your talent❤
Thank you so much 😀
You must have great patience and great eyesight! Love your work!
Thank you very much!
Love love loved it ! Fantastic skills you have . could watch you work all day long and listening to your thoughts cracks me up … omg them adorable eggs ❤ xx
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Your talent is amazing! The eggs and blueberry bread looked so real! All of it just fantastic!
Thank you so much 😀
I can’t decide which piece is my favorite, they are all just precious! We’ve owned a flooring business for over 30 years and your use of self leveler for tiles was fun to see. We have used thousands of pounds of it over the years. They turned out awesome! 😊
Thank you! I'm a contractor and have done a lot of remodels. We always use floor leveler before flooring. It's especially helpful when you're laying down sheet. That's also how I discovered the double-sided flooring tape.
the bit of veneer possibly could be from a basket repair kit. my mom was a longaberger lady in the 80s and we had several handfuls of wooden basket strips and leather strips for repair work. fantastic for mini work. You are so good at this that you are literally making me want to ti.e travel to swipe supplies from the past.
Awww that's awesome! Funny you should mention this, bc I bought basket making supplies from the Goodwill Buy the Pound store the other day. They're so lightweight, they were practically free. I'm excited to make some minis.
You are wise to use a dust mask with and cement or plaster of Paris product. Inhalation of these products, if done to long can lead to a condition called silicosis. And it is always fatal.
Love the goose egg dollhouse!
Well said! I watch remodel channels on RUclips. It's awful how many people sand drywall and mix concrete etc without wearing a mask. I wear a mask whenever there are any airborne particles.
Really great videos so many helpful tips 🥰
So glad! Thank you 😊
You have my condolences on the loss of your heat gun.
I don’t usually listen, but I will now. lol. Thanks
Thank you 🌺
This was a Really Good Video! I got So tickled when you used the hair " end papers" as Parchment paper! I got so tickled because that was one of my "Barbie years miniature supplies! Everything was Great but That "cracked egg" was My FAVORITE!!
Thank you so much! I got the end papers from a miniaturist who collected so many minis over the decades and crafting supplies. I bought 12 boxes of minis from her for $200.
I LOVE IT!!!!😂 YES YES YES BECAUSE THAT IS TRULY AN OLD SCHOOL MINIATURE SUPPLY!!!! IT'S STRAIGHT OUT OF THE 70's and 80's when we used to "Roll" our hair at night to have curls in the morning 😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ WOW my Age is truly showing!!!!!
So adorable❣️
Thank you so much!
could feather finish be used in decorative silicone ice cube trays to make statues or whatnot or is it specifically for thin uses only?
"HENRY 549 FeatherFinishTM can be installed from a true featheredge up to 1/2” thick over large areas in one application. It can also be placed to any thickness in small, well-defined areas such as thresholds and birdbaths, as well as for height transitions."
I'd give it a shot. There's also thin cement that's reinforced with fibers.
So clever…thank you for demonstrating ❤
You are so welcome!
All those solutions are so clever 😊
Love it : the egg is not there any more caus' it's inside the preparation 😂 good solution
Haha thank you 😊
You always amaze me with your attention to detail and your subtle humor. Great way to start my Saturday.
That's great! Thank you 😊
6:06 Those teeny chairs are adorable and I love how you’d created the itsy bitsy tiles!
Thank you 😊
I get such a kick out of how you "see"..thanks for sharing your genius!!
Thanks for watching! I see minis in everything now.
Did I just get duped, or did the thumbnail show the finish?
The thumbnail shows the completed pieces
Your so talented, I love how you come up with so many ideas.
Thank you! 😊 The ideas come to me once I start crafting
Love the tiny flowers...they look like pansies.
I think so too!
How funny, this is how I got into dollhouse miniatures. I started out as an “egger” making tiny dollhouse scenes using goose, emu and ostrich eggs! Love it!
That's so interesting! This is way more common than I imagined.
I rematch these videos so many times. And I love them every time even more❤
That's awesome! Thank you
Your too funny !!
I don’t make miniatures but I do other crafting/ painting
Although it does intrigue me. Who knows maybe some day…
Anyway I have made sun catchers with clear Elmer’s glue. And they are beautiful !! The glue dries crystal clear and durable. I thought you could use that instead of making the egg with resin. It takes a little bit to dry but I think you would get the same effect. Probably could make windows etc. it peels right off a glass dish probably silicone also, but I’ve only used glass as of now
Thanks for reading my rant. I’d like to know what you think and if you’ve tried this before ?
Thanks Karen from Florida 🌴💕
Thanks Karen! No, I've never tried that glue. I'll have to pick some up to give it a try. I do like how the UV resin can be cured immediately. I imagine it takes hours for the glue to dry
Instant gratification ?…Not !!! Lol
I get like that. But I refinish furniture and a lot of the steps are a waiting game
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question. I really appreciate that
Karen
That tile making is exactly the tip i needed. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Have fun 😊
Love all your videos, you have so much talent!!❤
Thank you 😊
I’m glad to see this project again. I watched this right before Little Gretchen went live so I’m glad I remembered to come back and comment. I really love the way the countertop turned out! You so clever 😂. Sorry to hear about the painful loss of your heat gun, I know how much you rely on it. May a new one be with you soon if not already. You crack me up every video. xx
Thank you! Gretchen's live was fun. My phone died toward the end so I wasn't able to say goodbye or see who won the last item. Congrats on your win!
I'll definitely get another heat gun, but I still need to bury my old one 😆
@@queencityminisI can’t believe I won. They are my first artisan pieces 😊.
RIP heat gun 2024. Hopefully that will help you move on lol
Those eggs were the cutest things I've ever seen. Everything is just amazing. Your brain must never sleep.
You are so kind! Thank you. I do think about minis a lot!
Your inventiveness and creativity are so inspiring!
Thank you so much!
Great video. I especially love the teeny tiny eggs!
Thank you! I need to use them in 1:12 asap.
You are fun to watch and learn from. Thank you so much
You are so welcome!
I had so much fun watching this video!!
I'm so glad! Thank you 😊
Your videos always make my day. Thank you
You are so kind! That's great to hear
I love your videos!!! I know I said in a comment previously that yours is my favorite channel and I wasn’t exaggerating. All other crafting videos I literally watch on 2x speed (I have adhd 🤷) but I watch these normal! Not even 1.25!
All that said. The resident is a bee keeper so you’re adding antiquing wax to the chair????? What?
Ps I love you
Ok fine I did it I joined your patron even though I’ll only ever watch your videos here I’m sure. But it probably helps you somehow to get more patrons idk
Thank you so much! I appreciate that
I hear you! I pretty much watch everything on double speed as well. I edit my videos with my own impatience in mind.
That is so funny that you caught that! I almost replaced that line since it doesn't make a ton of sense but my point was the owner of the egg house is a beekeeper, so the stuff inside probably doesn't look brand new. This still isn't making sense LOL. The beekeeper prefers a more rustic aesthetic!
👍👍👍👏👏👏💯💯💯💯❤❤❤❤
make a dollhouse in a lantern candle, please
That's a really cool idea! I made a Christmas themed diorama in a lantern before.

So many cute designs and creations. ❤
Thank you! 😊
So many great ideas! Thanks ❤
My pleasure 😄
You are a great inspiration, thank you .
I appreciate that!
Beautiful. Love the tiled table❤
Thank you! 😊 I definitely need to try that technique with different materials.
