I personally believe the nargacuga hbg is better than the viper tk hbg for damage output. Narga’s is elementless, but doesn’t have the crowd control you seem to favor.

@@TheGameconomist yeah, I use it to test both lbg and hbg. Once you have a weapon with max mod slots I just change it to what I'm looking for and see what the recoil and reload looks like. Great video, pretty much what I'm thinking except I still think Nargacuga hbg is better since it can get more damage from elementless for its pierce 3 over Tobi. Guess it more of a personal preference.

one thing you may have forgotten in the comparission of the narga and the viper tobi: narga has no elemental ammo and can use non-ele-boost, which tobi can't due to dragon/thunder ammo

Narga beats out viper tobi hbg for pierce for sure.. the extra 5% affinity and the non-elemental boost > paralysis for me.. you'll be doing more damage. You may be able to get the first paralysis with 5-6 para 2 ammos but are you really going to shoot another 10 paralysis ammo just for another para? You will be losing out way more dps.. terrible.

Viper can make up the 5% affinity differance and even surpass it by 5% when fully augmented. This is comparing the narga with augments.
Vipers only downside is the lack of elementless but you can easily make up for it with augments.

At atk lvl 2 I'll have to get back to you on that still augmenting.

@@joshuarivera6918 Yes for sure. It's around a 30% damage increase when you use scope, so it's actually ridiculous.
Kinda clunky to use because it zooms so much, blurs your view a little, and you're open to any outside source of damage when using it but its damage output is crazy.

I haven't tried any of the special mods, but I've been told they're pretty great. Just use trueshot decos and you should be good.

@@HentaiZero as a casual player, but a long time HH user, I'd recommend a horn like Teostras Orphee or (cant remember the spelling) SfenzaioII for elementless damage. Both have great songs.
As a general tip, any horn with the echo blast song is a good one. Hope ur HH journey goes well

@@HentaiZero just watch arreks or gaijin hunter videos on how to use it. For builds all you need is horn maestro 2, then just pile on damage skills or whatever else you like. HH is great for exhaust and ko so aim for the head. Good horns have attack boost or elemental boost songs

You can check how the reload speed behaves with differently customizations on bowguns withoit crafting them. You put the mods on an upgradable bowgun, then go into the upgrade menu for it and check the ammo on the target weapon. So you could have some basic iron bowguns with different numbers of mods to figure it out.

Accursed Below is better than Solemn Reflection. It has auto reload on Exaust 2 with no significant recoil. When you pair up Slugger with Stamina Chief, you just melt pretty much any monster. Knockouts come easier and monsters have a hard time to recover. After one cicle of Exaust and Sitcky, the monster usually goes away to eat. If you put a little affinity augment on it, it's way easier to do good damage with wyvenheart. I've managed to produce 20 knockouts on a Brachy/Glavenous hunt. Auto reload on sticky HBGs is way safer and more comfortable to use than the regular, slow reload on Zorah. Technically though, Zorah is the best. For easy, safe use and lots of knockouts, I'd go with either Accursed or Solemn. Solemn has the advantage of two slots, but lately I've been using Accused because it makes pretty much any monster (except Tempered MR Lunastra) almost completely harmless. Solemn Reflection pretty much only does sticky well.
In my current set, I use Accursed paired up with Slugger and Stamina Chief, 3 pieces of Zorah armor for Artillery 5, 2 pieces of Vaal for Peak Performance 3 and auto-health regen. I augmented for affinity and health regen. With the health regen on the gun and the health regen provided by 2 pieces of Vaal, you rarely won't be at full health, so Peak Performance remains active for the entirety of the fight. So all in all, you get way over 1k damage per sticky clip, and everytime the monster is knocked out (which will happen many times) you just unload the wyvenheart for an additional 2800/3000k damage.

I noticed that he said the shara hbg is the best or second best option for explosive damage and a must craft. but he completely wrote off gluttonous direcannon which confuses me because fulgar anjanaths hbg is practically identical to the shara but has better recoil across the board, and better cluster bomb clips albeit no cluster 3. even though anjanath only has paralysis 1 it has a clip of 4 which should do the job for a paralysis. vs the shara hbg which only has a clip of 1 paralysis ammo 2 before you have to reload, which seems impractical to me unless you have spare shot and/or free element. but in that case you now have 5 paralysis 1 on anjanath hbg which again, will definitely proc a paralysis. shara does have sleep to pair with the wyvern but im not convinced that single reason is enough to overlook the fact that anjanath has great potential for spread and normal ammo 3, it has better recoil, better clips for cluster, imo better paralysis potential, and only 15 less damage and 10% less affinity. its seems like a solid explosive hbg option that can double up as a normal or spread hbg too. Maybe that negative affinity is a real game changer? idk

Having used both, the Baleful Night (Nargacuga) and the Crimson Kadachi HBGs... the low recoil on Baleful helps it outshine the Kadachi. It comes with Sleep and if you need Paralysis you can equip your Palico with a Paralysis weapon.

Doesn't really get love, but my favorite is the legiana shattercryst/ franz glacia. Really good pierce HBG and really easy to farm/make. It carried me all the way to the guiding lands( till I was able to make mightning+ ) and is still a weapon I go back to when I'm struggling.

Baleful doesn't need mods to lower recoil. You can put 4 long range mods and a power barrel on it. The paralysis on Kadachi need atleast two recoil and reload mods. Unless you don't mind having very slow reload and very high recoil on Paralysis shot 2. You still need a recoil mod on Kadachi for the other pierce shots.

Hornking is still better for wyvern fire since it jumps up to 456 with a non elemental boost and since explosion go by true raw only this along with the usual attack booster give it the highest/fastest wyvern fire along with wyvern snipe

I have to say the zorah gun mixed with it's set for artillery 5 for sticky damage is killer . Constant cc and your sticky 3 does 115 flat and 150 boosted an explosion . Not to mention the follow up clusters for when after the monster is eventually knocked down (because 3 sluggers and 3 stickys to the head will put it on its ass)

that's pretty funny how he breezes over Barrioth's Icicle Assault like that. That was my gun for the IB storyline. Sure the damage is a bit on the low side but the affinity is high and combined with Glavenus MaxMight, I manage to get 100 affinity. It has paralysis and sleep. The auto reload on pierce 3 makes it feel like a bolt action rifle and I'm totally fine with that. My only personal dislike about the weapon is that it has wyvernheart instead of wyvernsnipe

The Magda is technically the best cluster bomber because it can fire 3 shots lvl 3 on low recoil. This means you have a higher chance to trigger spare shot.
It's not a real nerf you can't simply spam clusters instead wait for the sticky KOs.
Test the weapon you will love it. It also has free attack augment from 8.

For early mid game I would also recommend the great jagras HBG, after glutton carried me through most of the story the jagras gun was a pretty solid replacement for MR...
It has the same clip size as glutton for spread,low recoil, it doesn't have spread 3 but it has spread 2 which still out damaged glutton with An attack of 405 with neutral affinity it was elementless so you could push its raw attack higher with the elementless deco. it's a really good early spread gun for mid game till you get your hands on loyal thunder imo.

I did spread 2 at the beginning of MR as well but upgraded my jyura bullet to beotodus so its amazing with spread 2, water, and ice ammo. And it later gets a ton of customization and augment slots. Makes the R10 gun beat the R12 because of all the augments you can do lol

I would agree with some of the choices, but what you don't always consider is "Elementless"
I think they hold back "Hornking Blazuka" because it can still use elementless. the damage is boosted to 455 with an elementless jewel in the build.

Ftf ThirdEye True, but the overall potential DPS can be greater, as you would have Auto-Reload without True Shot anyways.
It essentially gives you additional ammo which means less trips to camp and less time in the Radial menus. Although, you might just want to max DPS in other ways and forego True Shot altogether.

Max artillery with Zora bonus, ammo up and slugger. The rest whatever you want.
For mods just 2 recoil reduction, 2 reload speed and 1 shield.
Use clusters only when monster is cc'd for the best results, even after the nerf the damage is still ridiculously high

Jose Quiles Peter Siu Zinogre with Kirin being second for Thunder. Beotodus for Ice and Water and Spread 2 plus all ailment ammo level 2 and a shit ton of augment slots made me stick with it but you could do Kushala for Ice and Namielle for Water.
Styx is a great option for Thunder and Water, Ebony Odogaron for RF N2,
Savage Jho for just RF Sticky 2
or Garuga for RF sticky 2 and RF pierce 2, Silvet Rath for fire,
The Blaze is good for Ice and Fire but silver rath is definitely stronger and i like all ailments on Beotodus so preference.
And the Ruin has good RF N2 but the ebony Odogaron gun has insane affinity just on the weapon.
Narga isnt bad for rf pierce 2 but garuga better.
Then there’s vaal or shara for spread 3 and velkana for RF spread 2. That’s all the good ones coming from a lbg main that makes them all and wrote this all from memory Lol lmk if you got any questions

You can test how reload and recoil mods affect different guns by selecting a gun with the mods in question, going to the upgrade tree, and hovering over the one you want to test without crafting it. This can help a lot.

I use endless famine for my wyvernheart build. Great damage, deviation doesn't really matter once you learn how to keep it in one location, since I only unleash wyvernheart when a monster is downed.

Hey @TheGameconomist its time to augment! I suggest augmenting the kodachi lion, gets 35% affinity and either attack boost or health regen (health regen is useable on perice), or 40% affinity.
Its quite nice.
In fact after augments its very clearly better than narga hbg, even considering elementless.

I like the Endless Famine. Gives me a variety. Pierce 3 and slicing are on automatic reload. I have sticky and cluster 2 and 3 and spread 3 when I'm close. It'd like a variety of ways to punish monsters. If one method doesn't work you're equipped with others.

The brachydios hbg is insanely good. Elementless boosts your cluster as and wyvern shots, and the strange normal 3/pierce 3 combos nicely for versatility. Up against a monster that pierce isn't that good against? Normal shots for days. Staring down Diablos? Pierce the heavens. Need high damage? Sleep in elementless wyvern and cluster bombs. Sure, it's a lot to build for, but it is so unique that the right build makes it a great swiss army gun.

i really like lunastra weapons but you need to lv up the wasteland region to 6 correct if wrong for lunastra to show while velkhana you can get early. i ve seen some very fun stickies with the shara, garuga and joh light bowguns

EFR for Narga HBG (with NEB and CB3) is 20 more than the Viper HBG
I would recommend the Viper HBG if the player doesn't have access to builds with NEB and critical damage skills.

It had Auto reload Slicing and wyvern Heart but you need affinity for those, why use endless famine with negative affinity. Jho HBG, Zorah HBG, Shara HBG and now Rajang HBG are all Explosive base and no need to have affinity. So wyvernheart less useful on those guns

I prefer Narga since the pierce recoil and reload speeds are much better than Tobi's. You can get moving reload and near zero recoil and still have mod slots left over unlike Tobi.

Mi Se no problem bro! I’ve have always mained LBGs and stoked that there are so many good ones to choose from in MHWI and even new Rapid Fire options like pierce 2 and sticky 2. Not to mention the new mods that spice up how you play like evade reload and the wyvernblast counter mod. Which I recommend you try out both.

Maybe I'm just ignorant on Heavy Bowgun but the Special Ammotypes were hardly mentioned. From my understanding Heart generally outclasses Snipe, so for example wouldn't that be a point in Endless Famine's favor if you want to use part of that "group" of explosive-heavy bowguns, but want Wyvernheart?

Zorah HBG has more clusters and it has poison 2 ammo paralysis2 and sleep 2 as well . Cluster bombs aren’t hard to get off just use on KO’d monster

TL;DR Shara Ishvalda > Zorah Magdaros
The Zorah Magdaros HBG is inferior to the Shara Ishvalda HBG for the simple fact that Sticky 3 is Auto Reload and it also has an additional Decoration slot (although they are both level 1).
The recoil is far too great and the Reload is far too slow on the Zorah Magdaros to be able to out DPS the Shara Ishvalda. 0% Affinity > -20% Affinity. Firing whilst moving is far too important to overlook. The 0% Affinity also means that the Shara Ishvalda even does better Fire Damage than the Fire Mountain HBG.
The Steady Auto-Reload of Sticky 3 outperforms any other reload aside from perhaps Normal Reload speed. Having to Stop and reload cuts too much into your DPS to consider using a Recoil +4 Sticky Ammo with a Very Slow reload speed.
Edit: -20% not -25% Affinity.

Zorah Magdaros > Shara Ishvalda
Sticky ammo is not meant to be a damaging type of ammo its made to CC a monster and it gives added damage as a BONUS.
Zorah can stun a monster much faster using sticky 3 and if needed sticky 2, Zorah does have one more Cluster 3 (AMMO ment to do damage) wich could equal atleast 5 or 6 sticky 3 shots of ammos in damage that Zorah Gets. If it procs with spare shot one more cluster is more important than a sticky proc.
Why would anyone use Elemental for damage on a HBG?
Zorah has +50 deffence, level 2 Gem slot is much more important for HBG; Example: Guard Up, Part Breaker or K/O.
Zorah HBG is a Bone HBG so you can use custom augments to give it +5 extra raw attack and has one more normal augment slot that Shara Ishvalda. (Zorah Gets Poison ammo as a small bonus, once you are out of ammo and need to reload poison the monster so you atleast get some DPS while reloading)
Zorah > Shara Ishvalda

Joonas Vilen Makes for a good Spread 3 gun at the time. 2 recoil for average, 1 close up, 2 shield. Or you can do 2 recoil, 3 shield. Combine it with True Spare shot, Spread lvl 2, Elementless Dec and it can deal a good bit.
I really love it for Wyvern ammo. That’s pretty much what I used it for. 1 reload, 1 close up, and 3 shield. Best combined with Artillery 3, Fortify, Guard up, Guard 4-5, and True Spare shot. With 1 reload you get normal reload speed. And you have the capability of sleep with 1 and 2 for wyvern sleep bombing. This isn’t going to be the fastest way to kill a monster, but it can be comfortable and it’s just a fun play style to me.
And you can switch styles depending on the monster. I’ve done a spread, wyvern mix a couple of times with 1 reload, 2, recoil, and 2 shield.
To top it off, it’s one of the easiest guns to get to max upgrade.
And honestly, a gun can be bad, but it’s really what you make of it. Heck, I’ve even used the Jagras HBG to some pretty good results before. Just play around with what you like. Not every gun has to be max deeps.

Sharas HBG is more for a sticky and cluster play style to begin with so it's not meant to really be comfortable in terms of reload capabilities the sticky 3 has automatic reload so that's fine so your basically adjusting the reload for clusters which is hell of a lot faster then the old devil jho cluster set up with some nice raw...clips and reload sizes are important to consider but their are special exceptions to the rule.

That steep negative affinity on the Endless Famine really hurts its damage potential when you can use options like the Crimson Kadachi or the Baleful Night, both with positive affinity and high pierce capacity. You could build less around fixing the affinity deficit and augment the weapon for damage rather than mostly affinity.

Peter Siu Zinogre with Kirin being second for Thunder. Beotodus for Ice and Water and Spread 2 plus all ailment ammo level 2 and a shit ton of augment slots made me stick with it but you could do Kushala for Ice and Namielle for Water.
Styx is a great option for Thunder and Water, Ebony Odogaron for RF N2,
Savage Jho for just RF Sticky 2
or Garuga for RF sticky 2 and RF pierce 2, Silvet Rath for fire,
The Blaze is good for Ice and Fire but silver rath is definitely stronger and i like all ailments on Beotodus so preference.
And the Ruin has good RF N2 but the ebony Odogaron gun has insane affinity just on the weapon.
Narga isnt bad for rf pierce 2 but garuga better.

Alan Lomeli Artillery 5 and Stagger 3 are necessities. I also run Partbreaker 3 for additional staggers. Additional Attack is also good. Other than that it's up to you. I like to use Evade Window Up and Quick Sheath.

Alan Lomeli I personally prefer the Shara Ishvalda for the auto-reload Sticky 3, as moving and shooting is surprisingly handy. Also, the auto reload is done mobile, which means less downtime and getting hit less. If you're rolling sticky and trying to speed then I highly recommend Artillery Secret, Slugger 3 and Partbreaker 3. I use three Zorah Beta parts and use jewels to max out Artillery. If you can, or want to, you can use the Anjanath Leggings for Artillery 2 and another Fulgur Anjanath piece for additional stamina or any other monster combination. I do recommend Quick Sheath though. I have Quick Sheath 2 and use an Attack Charm. There are many combinations you can choose but the most important is definately Artillery 5 and Slugger 3, or alternatively Slugger 5 and Artillery 3. Test those out and see which works for you. Also, use the Power Barrel custom for additional Stamina Drain and Knock Out power. Stamina Thief (Shara Ishvalda has Exhaust Ammo 1 and 2 iirc) is also a good idea if you want some additional stopping power.

My criteria of HBG is easy: wyvernheart & i’m good. Even fatal assault with pierce up + elementless up is good enough for me. Not the best, but i’m satisfied with it, until i got zino / narga HBG maybe.
