Not at all hating on the game play around 8:00 but you wiffed a couple hammer hits in a row: 💡idea: a new mantel that builds up damage as you wiff and resets buff on hit. Mantle expires on time limit, not number of hits. Would be great for players still learning monster animations, would still be more effective to land hits, but would be a great tool while learning. Could also be great for great sword sleep wakeup, as you only want to hit with last hit of true charge. (Realized while typing. )
I have over 1700 hrs in MHW, but for some reason never took fortify too seriously. About a month or so ago, I decided to give it a shot and became a believer. Now, with iceborn and the increased armor defense values, fortify is huge. IOW, I agree with the value you place in that skill.
Fortify is even easier to just slot in with the combo decos now too. It's paired with alot of various skills that you're already building for so why not?
Sorry I've used a few of these skills extensively since the release so I'm putting in input. Ailments are very strong in G rank. Blast and poison now deal double the damage paralysis lands more often and same as sleep . I can keep a monster 80% of the time poisoned over 15 to 20 minute hunts. With rathian gunlance. For max might it's because you probably havent ran rank 5. On most weapons you can keep up 50% affinity plus the other effect from rank 5 max might. Artillary rank 5 allows normal gunlance to deal crazy amounts of damage from the new slinger ability. Also your able to wyverns fire almost every 15 seconds.
I love Iceborne I’m just not a big fan of guiding lands not cause it isn’t fun but because I’ve had such a hard time finding people to play with or play jump into my guiding lands game. There is rarely ever any SOSs for guiding lands which really sucks. I’ve gotten lucky here and there but I don’t understand why investigations and anything else I do doesn’t have a problem playing with people just the guiding lands does for some reason. There has to be people playing it I just can’t seem to find them. Lol. Hopefully the MH dev will do something to fix or help out those who play with random people. Soloing the guiding lands get boring pretty fast and fighting tempered monsters and tempered elder dragons is a pain solo. The fight become so long especially against tempered elder dragons.
I still think relying on Fortify for anything other than speedrunning (which requires ultimate optimization of everything) is dumb. Do keep in mind that when you choose to kill yourself 2 times you get penalized for each faint. For me, Fortify is a just in case skill and only gets used when I have nothing else left to slot in.
Fortify can drop on duel decos. I have a fortify/attack deco took it for the attack it's a nice skill to have in the bag, same with airborne and sasciated both with attack also.
@@cody180sx Yeah it's a nice just in case skill for if you DO faint unintentionally but unless you're just going for fast times and not rewards killing yourself twice intentionally is just stright up stupid and counter-productive as far as rewards go. Not only that but then what if you *DO* faint that 3rd time after intentionally activating it? You might have significantly higher defense and attack after dying twice but you're by no means invincible. Personally, I would much rather have my 2 continues to fall back on incase I make a huge mistake rather than burn those 2 continues to get higher stats and then make an actual mistake and die due to being stunlocked or some other bullshit.
@@Ratchetpower2 I only really go all in on it for Guiding Lands, there is a new meal buff that's like Felyne Insurance it requires 6 of the red drinks from Iceborne so you can get it everytime it's called Felyne Safeguard
@@cody180sx I saw that skill, but even then I personally wouldn't be wasting a skill like that since I would have spent a meal voucher to get it. Everyone plays the game their own way, I just think it's dumb to kill yourself for extra stats. I can understand in the Guiding Lands since technically there's no faint limit but you still get reduced rewards for dying.
@@Ratchetpower2 The rewards reset after each fight if you claim them from the handler, so you won't be penalized if you do it before you start fighting a monster, also play the SreamWorks I have a stupid amount of meal vouchers after doing that for awhile(over 100 of the high end vouchers).
"People will still use Drachen set, because you don't get hit, right?" Hahahahahaha. Yeah, people abandoned that shit fast because monsters in Iceborne are much more inconsistent. Speedrunners get hit all the time. It's better to run with the extra defense than to give it up for a couple more points and make runs that much more tedious (1 hit is 1 death).
I dont know if its just me but i prefer boosting a skill like weakness exploid up instead of using handicraft for purple sharpness, i think all in all it is more damage at the end, but white is always worth i think
True Crit Element / True Crit Status from *Spoilers* Sets make it so that your Element / Status are actually affected by Critical Hits from what I read. Definitely gonna go for that as a DB main.
Critical Boost I can agree with to some extent, but in the case of Critical Element/Status I think you should specify that these depend on the monster in select cases. Master's Touch would be better if the MR Kaiser set wasn't so damn restrictive, as if you want the most optimal set you almost must use a Blast based weapon... that isn't always bad, but it leads to many Master's Touch sets being extremely similar and honestly... not particularly interesting. Critical Skills... I like how you conveniently missed Latent Power, Agitator, and to an extent Safi's Set Skill. I'll agree Critical Eye, Weakness Exploit and Maximum might can be more consistently useful, but 2 of the 3 were hit with rather substantial quality of life nerfs of which only one gets a secret to compensate. Latent Power provides 2 high level skills under specific conditions which can be easily achieved without it's secret, Agitator provides the same under a very consistent condition (though better with secret), and Safi's skill is downright busted at times and chains excellently with Latent Power due to the self damage being able to activate it regularly. Handicraft... I'm aware you're talking about the damage modifier for sharpness, but I feel this depends entirely on the weapon itself. So I dont feel it deserves to be higher than Crit in this case. Awakening Skill (Free Element)... No Comment, cant knock on this one as it is a skill you'll want on many weapons. especially guns. Elementless though... I dont see value in it after the nerf. Most elemental weapons will outdamage an elementless weapon in Iceborne, though there are exceptions. Artillery... God send on Gunlance, but I feel it is a mixed bag on other weapons, it is great more often than not but feels inconsistent at times. Focus... cant knock it either. Just a good skill all around the board, but I dont really see it do anything on HBG for myself personally. Shot Variation skills. I cant run them half the time so wont comment. Mighty Bow/Spare Shot... Agreed. Though I do not believe the True Razor Sharp/Spare Shot ups the percentage despite people telling me otherwise. I feel Airborne should depend on the weapon, at least when we talk availability and consistency. Most weapons can only Aerial attack off ledges after all. Fortify... I disagree, it is powerful I will grant. However... if put beside a crit set it will be severely outdamaged if it was alone. Though... I suppose that's more of a supporting sentence, as a set beats it, but no 1 skill will. This was a breakdown based on my experience, but I am most definitely wrong just due to it being based on one point of view.
they probably made the true element crit boost thingy since blast damage is better than elemental damage in iceborne. That way it would still give people a reason to use elemental weapons. I just want to say THANK YOU! (genuinely) for not putting the ever so overrated Agitator on this list. I hate when I see people using that.
Just watched this video. Got into MHW not too long ago. Got to the Fortify segment and got to thinking. "huh I wonder if that boost is +20% at level two or a two stack of 10%" For those wondering two 10% boosts > one 20%. Either way its a massive boost and Fortify is a skill I'll be running from now on.
What song is playing in the very beginning of the video? It’s really nice! Also, I love the Contents of this video. It’s giving me a good direction on where I should go with my builds! Thank you!
This may be a month late, but it is from the Undertale Soundtrack. The song is called “Shop” by Toby Fox. I highly suggest both the game and the soundtrack. :)
Silly question. The armour you are wearing in this video, is a layered one or not? And if yes, how do i get it? Ive been looking for it long time now but i have no idea how to get it :)
You’ve recommended Fortify so many times and I never used it because I try not to cart and rarely ever did in the base game. Made it through all of IB’s story with nary a cart, got to Shara and mission failed. Came back in with new build and Fortify, cleared it in 20 minutes. Great skill for fights that block your progress. BUT, no mention of Agitator? It’s become very important and in some cases meta in IB
Any gunners messed around to see if there's a difference between the Nargacuga Essence and Spare shot charm? The set bonus says its "true" razor sharp/spare shot. Does it just affect the razor sharp or spare shot as well? From experience they seem about the same. Both have times when you shot you 3 round clip and no procs and the next clip it procs 4-5 times in a row.
I dont get why people try to up themselves to one another To each their own as they say I was a bowgun user and turned into a LS user in Freedom Unite and learned Gunlancing in MH3G and haven't changed my main ever since then Altho, I used Charge Axe in Gen and Gen Ult for fun ans change but I'm back to GL in MHW
If you calculate the bonus damage you would get with different affinities and Crit Boost levels you see that you should invest in Crit Boost quite early: If you have affinity 30% or higher -> Go for Crit Boost Level 1 (Crit Damage 130%) If you have affinity 35% or higher -> Go for Crit Boost Level 2 (Crit Damage 135%) If you have affinity 40% or higher -> Go for Crit Boost Level 3 (Crit Damage 140%) Can someone verify if my calcluations are correct, that would mean that Crit Boost is way more important than I thought
The Fortify skill is even better if you get a level 4 deco with another useful skill. I have one with attack etc. So I use that one if I don't have anything risr that spplies to my build on a level 4 slot since I am really in the expansion.
The thing is that the new MR armor is so skill efficient, and with level 4 decos that can for example 2 stack wex speedrunners would be handicapping themselves for using drachen. Also since charms get more levels now drachen has even less use. And since masters touch is a 3 piece bonus in MR you can still fit another set bonus if you so choose. Regular crit element on bow for example. TLDR drachen isn't good anymore.
It's better than any armor set currently man. 1 extra skill on a charm is trash. And I've already seen the full lvl 4 deco tree. Surprise. There are no hard offensive decos, if you dont know what that is it gives you 3 points for a skill, all of the duals are 1 offense 1 defense, and the decos that give 2 points for a skill are not present for every offensive skill. I've made a set very close to drachen, attack boost 4, crit eye 7, crit boost 3, weakness exploit 3, masters touch, and then theres a few unwanted skills like heat guard, and latent power. Theres also fortify. But the drachen set is still better.
The problem with crit element 2 is its attached to trash. The only good teostra pieces are head, chest, arms. And theres still unwanted skills. Velkhana only has coalesence. I dont think it's on the waist and legs. And velkhana also has trash slots.
Offensive Gaurd and I get alone pretty good but I think I noticed a problem. It doesn't work on Gunlance shells. No matter. I've got a lance for basically every occasion and a sword and shield for more occasions so I can just block and stab. Works great on Marathon Runner and playing lance so you can keep using your gaurd counter and power guard to get a hefty hit in very fast.
Laughs in airborn/attack and fortify/attack decorations. I was able to jem them in manly because I wanted the attk and they were great secondary skills same with a sasciated/attk deco I got too.

Mantle expires on time limit, not number of hits. Would be great for players still learning monster animations, would still be more effective to land hits, but would be a great tool while learning. Could also be great for great sword sleep wakeup, as you only want to hit with last hit of true charge. (Realized while typing. )
What about the offensive guard skill? It gives you a 15% increase to damage right? Or is it to particular to charge blade that can guard point?
I'm not a big fan of fortify but I got a Fortitude/Handicraft jewel so it's basically in all my melee sets
Have you liaised with Jinx and Tuna - The Math Guys?
I have over 1700 hrs in MHW, but for some reason never took fortify too seriously. About a month or so ago, I decided to give it a shot and became a believer. Now, with iceborn and the increased armor defense values, fortify is huge. IOW, I agree with the value you place in that skill.
I think you missed clusters even though they are now irrelevant, for artillery
TheBeamXD * They’re not all that irrelevant. You can use them as supplemental like Wyvern Ammo.
TheBeamXD * there’s a 4:18 run on velkhana with clusters and stickies. They’re not dead still lol
Artillery don’t affect cluster.
Great informative vid. But whats that music at the beginning?
What armor/layered armor r u using in the ruiner nergi clip?
"People will still use Drachen set, because you don't get hit, right?"
Hahahahahaha. Yeah, people abandoned that shit fast because monsters in Iceborne are much more inconsistent. Speedrunners get hit all the time. It's better to run with the extra defense than to give it up for a couple more points and make runs that much more tedious (1 hit is 1 death).
Desmond Brown nah, if drachen set had more slots and 4-deco slots, then speedrunners would use it...
I got lucky enough to get an Attack/Fortify gem 4 early on in Iceborne. Haven't taken it off my sets yet. It's golden for a player of my skill level.
I think its golden for anyone at any skill level :P
I dont know if its just me but i prefer boosting a skill like weakness exploid up instead of using handicraft for purple sharpness, i think all in all it is more damage at the end, but white is always worth i think
I would have put “Capacity boost” in the same tier as bow charge instead of spare shot as it does the same thing to GL and CB as it does to bow IMO
True Crit Element / True Crit Status from *Spoilers* Sets make it so that your Element / Status are actually affected by Critical Hits from what I read. Definitely gonna go for that as a DB main.
Fortify in expeditions with 4 people is just crazy
Fortify is something I never use as a solo player because I find getting carted and having reduced rewards intolerable
Sarge Its great on expeditions and Guiding Lands
ah yes my favorite, Jump Master + Hammer + Ledge the holy combo
What do you think of "Coalescence"(L3) attack +18 element atack +90 status +15%
Its the layered armor for getting the deluxe edition
8:00 That stats are from old games, in world purple only gives 1.39 multiplier, not 1.45
You’ve recommended Fortify so many times and I never used it because I try not to cart and rarely ever did in the base game.
Why does no one ever talked about partbreaker or stamer theft?
because those don't directly increase damage.
Hey props to Nerg. He saved our asses at the end of Iceborne. Twice.
A spoiler warning would have been nice, hadn't seen the monster and area featured in the first few seconds of the video :(
Agreed. Don’t worry there are a lot you haven’t seen yet. Happy hunting
You haven't seen nergigante yet?
I was on your discord server. Had some guy trolling me about how Gunlance was supposedly objectively bad.
I dont get why people try to up themselves to one another
To each their own as they say
I was a bowgun user and turned into a LS user in Freedom Unite and learned Gunlancing in MH3G and haven't changed my main ever since then
Altho, I used Charge Axe in Gen and Gen Ult for fun ans change but I'm back to GL in MHW
If you calculate the bonus damage you would get with different affinities and Crit Boost levels you see that you should invest in Crit Boost quite early:
If you have affinity 30% or higher -> Go for Crit Boost Level 1 (Crit Damage 130%)
If you have affinity 35% or higher -> Go for Crit Boost Level 2 (Crit Damage 135%)
If you have affinity 40% or higher -> Go for Crit Boost Level 3 (Crit Damage 140%)
Can someone verify if my calcluations are correct, that would mean that Crit Boost is way more important than I thought
Fritz Peter Crit damage is +25%. Each level of Crit Boost give you an additional. Max effective level are 3 so an additional 15%=40
Does airborne effect the IG in all aerial attacks or just the initial launch?
Does airborne powers up the jump roll for hammers?
It does, hammer main and rocking airborne
@@stephan7379 cool how about the claw weapon attack?
No idea tbh, but I don't think it will apply to it since it's not a jump attack.
Fortify was nerfed. Now it lasts a "Duration" instead of indefinite.
Fortify wasnt nerfed that hard. It has a duration now in expeditions. (50mins. Same duration as the quest time) but thats about it
what are your thoughts about offensive guard?
Max Might does not deactivate the moment you use stamina. It stays active a few seconds after using stamina.
Nice tips. Thanks.
Can someone please tell me what song is playing in the background? And where is it from? I've been trying figure it out and I never get an answer🙏😂
I wanna know as well. C'mon ppl
It's called Undertale Shop
@@shadymilkman443 thanks mate. Now I kinda wanna play Undertale to see what other awesome tracks it has.
Good video Gc very informative!
Thanks man and thanks for playing with me live
@@TheGameconomist my pleasure you're an awesome Hunter.
*Dude is a gem*
Which part of this video is 1080p? The overlays?
Fortify in guiding lands is stupid OP.
Edit: And it's great
Does airborne works with the longsword R2+triangle vertical jump slash??
What about attack lvl 7 is it that bad that it didn't make the list? Have I been playing this game wrong?
Does the sliding hammer count as airborn damage?
Attack 7
Critical Eye 7
Critical Boost 3
Weakness Exploit 3
Resentment 3
Sharpness 3
Protective Polish
Fortify
I kill stuff pretty fast
Good video, can’t recommend to anyone as it has spoilers though
I have save data from mhw game pass, will that still work for iceborne? I really need to know.
The problem with fortify is fainting costs you loot...
What's that song from the beginning? Sounds so familiar
Thanks for this 💪🏽
question would True crit element from 4 silver rath parts stack with crit element from my kjarr weapon?
Kjarr is shit now anyway
There are absolutely no spoilers in this video what so ever.
The Fortify skill is even better if you get a level 4 deco with another useful skill. I have one with attack etc. So I use that one if I don't have anything risr that spplies to my build on a level 4 slot since I am really in the expansion.
If you’re talking percentage increases, then latent power secret is broken
True razor sharp spare shot is a good replacement if you dont have teostra master rank armor yet
That makes me wonder too why it doesn't work on a perfect block when shelling
@@clebbsy
Maybe if we make a stink of some kind then Capcom will let us combine Artillery and Offensive Gaurd for maximum damage?
The fact that you ask if dragon piercer is good yet means you're not 100% familiar with the bow yet...
Would the beyblade attack for dual blades count as a flight attack?
Laughs in airborn/attack and fortify/attack decorations. I was able to jem them in manly because I wanted the attk and they were great secondary skills same with a sasciated/attk deco I got too.
