I have to point this out, but you're wrong about activation chances of food skills. Only vouchers guarantee food skills, 3 stars is *not* guaranteed, and 0 stars *could* still give you the food skills.
TheGameconomist good to see that you finally finish it. Hope to catch you in the next stream because it’s just aids to play without you being in the ban hammer for people that don’t do track runs also while I don’t feel your pain yet it’s just killing me that i don’t get my Taroth assault fire or the kjarr decay which accidentally is the best LS so now you know. I had absolutely no idea how the Canteen worked now in World, since at first glance it seemed more complicated than it was worth. I got by with just the Chef platter. However, it turns out it was pretty simple. Thank you for this guide.
A fairly simple system with experience, and very confusing for most new hunters. As always you have gone above and beyond sharing your knowledge with great detail. Thank you for making sure we are all eating well senpai ❤️
Not nearly as confusing nor as practically underwhelming as anything released in the west in the past 15 years, I'll give it a "BBQ and cannibalize the inteface designer RIGHT NOW" award! Ask America how they do it, and all that.
For bow, your ideal buffs to get are Sharpshooter for increased rapid arrow damage, and Blackbelt for decreased stamina usage. Blackbelt in particular is very good because it's almost like an extra level of Constitution.
The big bonus from Black Belt is that it lets you run Constitution 1 instead of Constitution 3 and still hit the stamina reduction cap with a dash juice. Con 1 + Dash Juice + Black Belt is like 2% more stamina draw than Con 3 + Dash Juice, but having to only use a 2 slot deco instead of a charm is a big boost. If you don't capitalize on it with gear, eating for Black Belt does nothing for you.
@@Sc4r4byte Cap is 50%, Con 5 gives 50% reduction so it doesn't stack with anything. Dash Juice gives 25% so with Con 3 + Dash Juice you're 5% over cap (55%). I can't find the exact % that Black Belt gives but I know that Con 1 + Dash Juice + Black Belt is just below cap to the point that Con 2 is negligible.
@@PrintAimGame The different stamina reduction buffs stack multiplicatively with each other, not additively. The ideal combinations are either Con 3 + DJ or Con 1 + DJ + FBB, giving 47% and 46% stamina reduction respectively. FBB also gives 20% stamina reduction.
About the gathering points out in the maps: Most of them yield a random selection of three items of differing rarity, but there is always _one_ that yields the rarest item from that particular gathering point. like the divineapple from the tough-skinned fruit; it only comes from one particular gathering point, in the Grimalkyne camp in the same cave as the northeastern camp, over the diablos lair. These special gathering points are only available when there is an upsurge or flourishing, so check the map carefully when you select which area to travel to. MEAL VOUCHERS CAN ALSO BE OBTAINED FROM POOGIE IF YOU HAVE MAXIMUM AFFECTION. Carry him up to where the Handler is sitting. If he detects an item there, it WILL be a meal voucher. I got most of mine from that annoying tripping hazard. Very handy when the Greeting the Gluttons quest is not in circulation.
Since we're on the topic about the canteen, I miss seeing the other cooking cutscenes from Meowsterchef. It would be nice for quality of life to be able to see those other mini-cutscenes again.
A big disadvantage for MHWs canteen imo is that Foodskills are either exclusively Felyne or Daily, while in older games pretty much all of them could be daily, with a few that you can specifically eat for at any given time. That means that some old combinations are no longer possible like skills from the same Felyne branch: e.g. Polisher + Rider (2 + 4 red/courage) as any higher met requirement will overwrite the lower or skills that require more than 6 Ingredients combined from different colors: e.g. Slugger + Bombardier (6 red/courage + 4 yellow/artillery). Also, what really bums me out is that, if you use a meal voucher, it changes the order of the daily skills. So experimenting before you use a meal voucher to see if it's worth it and can get the Felyne + Daily combination doesn't work as the Daily skills for the same meal setup afterwards will be different and can potentially mess up your plan. I haven't found out how it changes the order and if you can predict it or if it just randomizes it. Hope I was clear with my comment, if not let me know and I'll try to be more explain it better.
Not all of the ingredients are random, there's 2 per map that only spawn in a set place when that gathering point is flourishing Edit. The research base has a quest line that rewards food too
@Gary Lai 'the first time you gather from them'? The special flourishing ones only allow you to gather once. not technically wrong, but misleading to imply you can gather more than once on them
For bows black belt is the top priority skill that pretty much increases your damage just because you don't use nearly as much stamina as you would normally use. Sharpshooter is a nice secondary skill to have with it but if you're in a fight where you would prioritize spread power shots or dragon piercers then it would better to pick a more defensive option like Felyne riser. I use sharpshooter quite often in most cases since my combos use the three normal arrow shots to go into the spread shots. In some fights like arch Luna you don't always have the luxury of being close to her for the spread power shots so I ended up relying on a lot of normal shots. To summarize black belt is your go to skill as bow and Sharpshooter is a nice extra skill in case you don't need the other more defensive skills.
So if someone dies and insurance is activated for that cart, if someone else who didn't eat who has the insurance daily skill in their food menu, and they eat it, will the next cart be protected by the second felyne insurance?
Yay!! Ive been waiting to actually use this canteen properly Edit: your videos are amazing and i feel your videos are criminally under watched, your guides have made so much of this game simplified its kind of crazy lol
Another excellent video! Thank you for sharing your wisdom :) I would like to add, there are certain ingredients that can only be found after completing certain tasks or under specific conditions i.e.: Violet Abalone can be found in the Coral Highlands during Upsurge: Conch Shells within a specific Conch Shell in Area 9. I hope this helps!
I've got like 450 hours in this game and I've just learned so much from your video man! I'm actually going to plan meals now rather than defaulting to Chef's choice! Thank you so much ❤😂
I'm really surprised that a bunch of people were still using chef's choice, since felyne black belt has always caught my eye for every canteen in the mh games I've played
@@xer0o0HASSAN_CHOP Yeah it was just one of those systems I didn't bother to learn when I was getting into the game and by the time I was properly no lifing it, I didn't feel like I needed the benefits 😂 But it is actually a way better and more fleshed out system then I realised!
Yay finally I can eat Feline Pyro without choking.I just didn’t understand that I had to swallow the food. Thank you Thegameconomist. Also Feline Insurance doesn’t Stack but if you are in a long match like let’s say Ancient Leshen and you get another one after having use (aka die) the first 1 it will “Stack” Btw getting the yellow Beers are pretty good for farming monster parts because the one in which you have all of them gives you a chance to get more things from a quest but you need a voucher. Some of you may not know that when there is an event in an area that is like. Gathering flower or Gathering Cactuses. This will make a predetermined gathering object in the map that gives you a “secret ingredient “ there are 10 with 2 per map and they might be the ones that you are missing. An example is in the wild spire waste if you know were is that nest of birds, there will be a new cactus there that will get you the Kingly cactus. One last thing is that I believe that you said that the “Chefs Choice” is a guaranty to get everything but it’s more like an 80% chance to get everything (in all my time I have never actually seen less that 2 skill getting active) so if you have Feline insurance as a chance you should know that you shouldn’t risk it if you need the insurance or Pyro for Kulve
The gathering points from which you can get certain ingredients are actually not random (well kind of), they are always at set location but only if these sort of „buffs“ for them are active; eg when it says „Upsurge Cacti“ etc. Those upsurges will however be random, so just travel between expeditions until the ones you need are showing up You can just search that list up online, just thought I might point that out; other than that nice video, really informative 👌🏻
There is a lot of information which are well explained, the example was nice as well. You've covered the "basics". But I was hoping for real in depth detail like damage increase numbers or a list of all the daily food skills (explained) with a timestamp on the video to get back to it whenever I need information. At the end of the video I still don't know how powerful attack up L really is. Same goes for felyne bombardier which seems pretty useful on paper. Can I use the same food twice during a mission? Does buff stack if I eat again? How powerful are drinks compared to other attack buff (is the additional reward the damage loss drop wise)? I don't request any answer in comment. I just point out the fact that it can be pretty hard to find complex information, and that's what i was looking for in a "in depth" video.
I was quite familiar with the canteen, but I learned quite a few things still from this. Thank you so much, I really need to start taking the time to dive deeper into the various mechanics of this game, in my opinion each one counts and ultimately makes you a much better and more efficient hunter in the long run. Question for arena quests, can you do the arena quests in the optional section of the quest board to get food vouchers, or do they need to actually be the arena quests in the gathering hub?
You can also get a meal voucher by befriending poogie and carry him to the handler. If your controller vibrates, put poogie down there and wait for poogie to dig it up. Ps: doesn't always works everytime you got back from each quest. When that happens, carry your poogie to the leftside of the queat boards at the workshop for a chance to get either immunizer or nutrients.
Something to note about meal vouchers, if Poogie likes you enough, if you carry it up to the canteen and place it down by the handler, there's a chance it will dig up a meal voucher, slim, but possible. Also, if you've unlocked the Argosy, selecting the trade in items, there's a chance he will bring back vouchers also.
I've tested it a couple of times, felyne insurance doesn't stack if more than one person eats for it at the start. I'm not sure about it if you eat it after using it up though.
It does not stack, but if somone consumes Felyne Insurance, they can re-eat for it to reapply it. If you get lucky, you can cart 4 times every 10 mins (well, not that lucky if you keep carting :P )!
Insurance used to stack if you ate it consecutively during a hunt. However, I haven't seen it activate twice during one hunt since about Update 4.0 or so. I confirm this personally because there was one hunt when I personally used 5 Insurances during a Vaal Hazak hunt when we were new to High Rank. However, it hasn't activated twice on a hunt for months. We've tried eating for it twice on one person, using up one on one person then someone else eats for theirs, and both eating for it at the start.
I honestly don't touch this topic in my game because I need to manage my build first and build the exact element on how to win my match with this awesome Monster that will tear you up every time. But I have to watch the video and see the brighter side of it.
figured most of the canteen out myself by just sheer trial and error, but I did NOT realize that meal vouchers were shared across the session... Good to know. Thanks for putting out this tutorial! However, I feel like we're missing a very specific tutorial: What EXACTLY does each felyne skill do? And how strong is the effect compared to it's armor skill counterpart? If it has one.
by pressing the touchpad (on PS4 ofc) the game shows a description of the Felyne skills available, explaining them all would make the vieo way too long but at least he sorted the most useful ones
@@cyco7229 I play the game on PC though, but on there I can press TAB to view these, I already knew that, shoulda prolly mentioned it, sorry :( Anyway, those describtions are kinda vague. You get a general idea of what they do, but not how potent they are. Felyne polisher for example states that it; ''Often speeds up sharpening time'' But not by how much. In my own experience, the amount it speeds up sharpening seems random. That's why I'd like to see a video dedicated to explaining each food skill in detail :)
iirc the bow increase is 10% on the raw portion of damag (not elemental), just like normal shots up. My priorities list for bow though: Black belt (this is 1.5 levels of constitution, dash juice is (2.5) levels, cap is 5 levels. That means 1 point of constitution vs 3 points) Attack up L (This migh be less than 10%, but it boosts spread and normal and your spread is notably stronger than normal) Sharpshooter (10% on normals is good. Combined with forceshot it can be very nice especially in situations where spread/power isnt practical, like against fliers or small weak points or a monster that just got aggroed on someone else.)
@@serbiancrusader7813 They probably meant that you can get it twice and that if someone faints, eats and gets another insurance then it will still work.
im new hunter just spam chef's choice platter everytime i eat meal it does work in the begining, but man.. further in the game i do really need to custom's my meal from now on Thank you soo much for this, i know i'm kinda late for playing mhw while everyone play mhrise nowadays but i do love mhw soo much
Still sad that mhworld changed how you get meal vouchers. It used to be every 10 missions or so to get a voucher or gourmet voucher. Though at least mhworld had a mission to obtain massive amounts of vouchers through the event quest Greeting the Gluttons. Got myself about 250 vouchers to save for important hunts/ iceborne. I also know you can get vouchers from the arena but it isn't too consistent.
One thing you didn’t explain is which felyne daily quests get overwritten? If i craft a custom platter with two skills which daily skills get overwritten? Also if someone in my session uses a food voucher how long is it active for? Do they have to eat it when queued up for the same quest or do they just have to be present in the session? When does the shared voucher expire?
Don't use max/ancient potions just to cap out your hp. Use mega/ nutrients instead. You can carry more, and this leaves max/ancient potion available for mid fight emergencies.
Meh, usually during a mission when I'm using health boost 3 and stamina cap up, even the +50 health and stamina from the meal doesn't add to my new caps sometimes. I just pop an ancient potion quickly then go to my other buffs. The reason is because you'd have to use more than 1 mega nutrient to get your max health cap and it would take more time overall. I can also just easily farm for ancient potions through GS smashing kelbis or melding them through the melding pot.
400+ hrs and never knew vouchers were shared, that explains why sometimes the game allows you to have all skills even without using one, I thought it was a RNG thing.
Felyne Insurance does not stack! Speaking from experience. It also does not "refresh". As in if you waste your insurance , it's gone, doesn't matter if you or someone else in the canteen gets it later.
chef's choice meal is definitely NOT 100% activation chance. i'm not sure of the exact level of each star, but there have been countless times where i did not get certain food skills from chef's choice. it simply has the highest chance of activation. if i had to guess, i'd say each star represents 30% activation chance, so 3 stars would be 90%. again, i don't have the mined data to say for sure, but for sure it is not 100% chance. only food vouchers offer 100% activation chance
Felyne sharpshooter increases the damage of your rapid shots (RT on xbox) so the optimal food is getting sharpshooter as well as felyne blackbelt (15% stam cost redux i think) if u havent hit that 50% stamina cost cap
How much does the chance of getting a skill increase for every fresh ingredient? Selecting for HP or stat bonus is reliable, but trying to eat to also add skills is very unreliable unless I burn a voucher, and I don't want to burn a voucher for the average quest.
Looking at the set armor you use in this video, i'm glad playing on the PC because of the transmog mod, but we're still behind in content. Anyway thanks for this video, i never really get the meal part.
Irvan Syah while you probably don’t care I just wanted to let you know that he actually hates layered armor because he gets sometimes confused of what is he’s build and also so that us the viewers can see he’s armor combination and have a better way to copy it if we so desire. Also agree that it sucks that you guys are still behind in monster.
I can say for a fact that Insurance doesn't stack, even after gaining it when it is used. I had the notification pop for a person that we received the effects of it. I died after which was our 2nd cart. I ate and gained it. Then as I was running back, someone died and we failed.
I'm pretty sure felyne insurance only works for the specific person who died, do if everyone has felyne insurance, everyone can die once before it counts
@@victoryX4 I don't think that's true. I'm pretty sure I used someone's Felyne Insurance once and others have used mine. I can't 100% verify though since my knack for getting the buff is lower than my chances of getting Attack Up Jewels. XD
I did some reading across the Steam forums and other sites. They all basically say, quote, "Only Felyne Insurance is group wide. It activates when a teammate faints, but the player will not get penalized for it. Only one Felyne Insurance can occur in a battle, so if two players in your squad has the skill then the game only counts one of theirs as legitimate."

I've tested it a couple of times, felyne insurance doesn't stack if more than one person eats for it at the start. I'm not sure about it if you eat it after using it up though.
No... no it does not😂
It does not stack, but if somone consumes Felyne Insurance, they can re-eat for it to reapply it.
Great guide!
I honestly don't touch this topic in my game because I need to manage my build first and build the exact element on how to win my match with this awesome Monster that will tear you up every time. But I have to watch the video and see the brighter side of it.
Finally a good tut for canteen. This is so confusing for a new player
Another excellent video 💯🔥
Thank you for the video :)

Thanks for the info!!
figured most of the canteen out myself by just sheer trial and error, but I did NOT realize that meal vouchers were shared across the session...
Good to know. Thanks for putting out this tutorial!
However, I feel like we're missing a very specific tutorial:
What EXACTLY does each felyne skill do? And how strong is the effect compared to it's armor skill counterpart? If it has one.
by pressing the touchpad (on PS4 ofc) the game shows a description of the Felyne skills available, explaining them all would make the vieo way too long but at least he sorted the most useful ones
@@cyco7229 I play the game on PC though, but on there I can press TAB to view these, I already knew that, shoulda prolly mentioned it, sorry :(
Anyway, those describtions are kinda vague. You get a general idea of what they do, but not how potent they are.
Felyne polisher for example states that it; ''Often speeds up sharpening time''
But not by how much. In my own experience, the amount it speeds up sharpening seems random.
That's why I'd like to see a video dedicated to explaining each food skill in detail :)
This is gonna help a ton farming for that stupid Brachydios Pallium. Great guide 10/10
iirc the bow increase is 10% on the raw portion of damag (not elemental), just like normal shots up.
My priorities list for bow though:
Black belt (this is 1.5 levels of constitution, dash juice is (2.5) levels, cap is 5 levels. That means 1 point of constitution vs 3 points)
Attack up L (This migh be less than 10%, but it boosts spread and normal and your spread is notably stronger than normal)
Sharpshooter (10% on normals is good. Combined with forceshot it can be very nice especially in situations where spread/power isnt practical, like against fliers or small weak points or a monster that just got aggroed on someone else.)
Awesome information thanks bro
Insurance does NOT stack.
Use voucher to make it stack
Mr. M.A S Doesn't work, i've got a 1000+ hours and play with a squad. We have tried and it does not work.
It will if you eat it die and eat something with it again it may not stack but it can be used multiple times
@@serbiancrusader7813 They probably meant that you can get it twice and that if someone faints, eats and gets another insurance then it will still work.
It doesn't stack at all.. Was fighting AT Nerg and we got it 4 times.. Two times each and it only works once and only once..
im new hunter
just spam chef's choice platter everytime i eat meal
it does work in the begining, but man.. further in the game
i do really need to custom's my meal from now on
Thank you soo much for this, i know i'm kinda late for playing mhw while everyone play mhrise nowadays but i do love mhw soo much
Great vid!
amazing very chill and helpful = )
Great work.
Afaik, insutance does NOT stack. Learned this the hard way against an Ancient Leshen bird nova.
very helpful thank you
One thing you didn’t explain is which felyne daily quests get overwritten?
For bow users use Black Belt Skill.
Vouchers only apply to other players that are not in a mission/expedition or a loading screen on the way back from a mission/expedition.
Do the fresh ingredients come randomly or is there any way to stock them proactively?
chef's choice meal is definitely NOT 100% activation chance. i'm not sure of the exact level of each star, but there have been countless times where i did not get certain food skills from chef's choice. it simply has the highest chance of activation. if i had to guess, i'd say each star represents 30% activation chance, so 3 stars would be 90%. again, i don't have the mined data to say for sure, but for sure it is not 100% chance. only food vouchers offer 100% activation chance
I literally just made this comment because I didnt see nobody else mention it! I'm glad I'm not the only person this happens to!
Felyne sharpshooter increases the damage of your rapid shots (RT on xbox) so the optimal food is getting sharpshooter as well as felyne blackbelt (15% stam cost redux i think) if u havent hit that 50% stamina cost cap
Does the food skills for rewards stack with armor skills for rewards?
When i put 4 ingredients into a platter to get the 2nd felyne skill does that replace the other skill you'd get with the 2 ingredients?
holy shit that was deep, but i learned alot so thank you.
They should include your videos as part of the tutorial. =D
Man am I late in doing custom platters. Thanks for this. I'm a casual who just goes for defense up large each time because of my role.
How do you increase the activation chance?
This may have been discussed, but is should more than 1 person use a meal voucher? Do they stack?
It's not possible to use more than one in a Session. So no, they don't stack.
thanks a lot!!!
how does the fresh ingredients reset? or how do i get more fresh ingredients? is it random? or do i have to do something to get more fresh ingredients
The set I’m using with light bow gun is very weak to dragon (like -16). So should I be doing elemental resistant or go damage?
My brain has grown numb from all this food mumbo jumbo
Then you will suffer a life without *GAINS*
love ur vids
So I take it the color that each individual food is represented by doesn't matter at all? Or did I miss that?
Yeah I figured that out the hard way that defense doesn't matter XD
whats oven roast?
and why some ingredients r fresh and some r not?
