The Kirin Beta legs are actually super meta. They are used on several meta bow builds that require Free Element, including the Taroth Arrow 'Thunder', which to this day retains its title as the strongest thunder bow in the game. That alone is enough to make the Kirin Leg Guards Beta a meta piece of armor. So much for a "honorable" mention, yee? I lost all of my monster Hunter: World saves about 8 months ago, but, after seeing all the cool new content I've been grinding the game out again. I cannot stress enough how useful your videos and this META guide has been in helping me come back to the game. Thank You!
I know I’m 3 years late but I’m new af to MHW and you’re the first person I’ve seen say they’ve lost their saves. May I ask how what you play on, how you lost it, and is it a common occurrence? If it happens a lot I’m not even going to bother grinding the game.
@@raisnhed Nah I lost my saves because I lost my PSN account. Have spent a few thousand hours on the game across PS4 and PC and I don't think I've ever lost the saves due to a technical glitch.
Quick tip, if you keep dying using a high damage build trade attack decorations for vitality. It will make your survival way easier. All damage builds you gotta be good and careful to use well. I mainly use high damage build on tempered elders and lower and on arch I switch to vitality so it’s less likely I get one shotted lol
Whilst this is true and valid. To a certain degree the player has a hand as well. No matter how strong your amor is, mistakes will happen. Maybe because I've played since monster Hunter freedom on psp and so on. I've learned to play careful. It's all about when to dodge, when to strike and over all just good manuvering.
So this was my armor progression from start to now: - Whatever first armor we got - Barroth armor - Odogaron Armor - Odogaron Armor HR - Xeno Armor - Vaal armor - (i got other armors after to just mess around) Yes i know its quite a leap lol
Wish i saw this video before i started my wish list. I came into the same conclusion as far as armor pieces go but wasted hours researching it. About 140 hrs in and loving the theory craft of the game.
rath soul helmet, nergigante chest, drachen arms, kulve gamma belt, azurlord legs, constitution charm. and of course, filling up with decos for an A+ elemental bow build
Eh as a Wide Gunlance main I feel like its impossible to play without Evade Extender, theres a lot of attacks that are impossible to avoid with regular hops and if you guard without Guard skill you lose a lot of momentum, I'm talking mostly about end game fights though. When monsters try to run you over, you can quickly chase them with extended hops so in a way its a DPS boost as well. Great video though, I share a lot of similar opinions on armor with you.
I used to think that but you only need to reverse hop most of the time, rarely do I sheathe to chase monsters. But I do like sneaking in 1 Evade Extender if I can afford it. Same with Switchaxe, you just have to learn to use the weapon's moveset to move around fast without needing EE.
Nothing to do with the video as it’s well done and good but anyone else feel the more you delve deep into all the super nerd numbers the less you care and just want to have fun
I think the Empress Coil gamma also deserves an honorable mention (HealthBoost x2 and EvadeWindow x2 + 1 large decoration slot), I like it for building stamina cap up with the kjarr bows. Also the only time I can think of that Kirin legs beta are used is the tarroth thunder bow build which needs the rathalos chest for weakness exploit and crit element, so it can't use Kirin chest gamma and has to use those beta legs to efficiently unlock it's hidden element.
@@osirisavra1301 Bow has more meta build variation than any other weapon, and it's one of the only weapons that use stamina cap up. Yes Lunastra armor mostly sucks and there's only like 3 pieces anyone would ever use, all I'm saying is that the gamma coil is one of the few worth using, and I think it's better than the beta version he recommended in this video. And I think Empress is tied with Vaal Hazak for most useless gamma armor sets. I use 1 piece in niche situations for both those sets.
I agree with you,did not see the entire video so i miss the meaning of your comment. Personally i use the chest b cause is very good for peak performance builds (but no bow) and i like the Y gloves but sadly you can't fit it to any set cause drachen gloves OP. Vaal set is just sad, only the gloves are good for dragon bows, that's it.
Ooo, so what I'm getting is the Gerald set is good for almost everything? Because I can just put my attack jewels onto it and boost that for affinity on my karma bowgun untill I can get my deviljho parts and get that to farm charms when greatest jagras comes around.
The build I use for melee weapos is: -Teostra Y head -Kulve Y chest -Teostra Y arms -Lunastra Y coil -Testra Y legs -Weakness exploit charm and decoration -Crit boost decoratios -Vitality decoration -Non elemental boost decoration (if needed) -Fortiry decoration Is it a viable build?
Basically any build is viable. If you mean the most optimized for DPS, uhhh IDK I doubt it honestly you probably could get more damage by replacing some armor
So me personally I play charge blade but with out capacity as I'm a glowy sword boi and instead my current build is weakness exploit 3, critical boost 3, attack boost 5, agitator 3, maximum might 2, and slugger 1 and I'm not having to much issues so don't think you need to play meta to have fun
In other words good offence is the best defence. More dmg means you kill monster faster which in return means that it will have less time to attack you and thus do less dmg. Just have enough defence to not be 1-2 shoted so you have time to heal mid fight.
If you know what attack charms are then you're already better than 70% of hunters I play with. It's crazy I have seen HR57 guys with default leather armor😭😭
@@aylmaoxdxddd5687 Wow, getting carried through basically the entire game is some wild shit. And unfortunately I have seen some SOS Flare carries where they just stay at the camp or harvest. Hopefully something is done about that in Iceborne.
Bit late to the video not sure if the meta has changed but High affinity Critical boost Masters touch And that's about it? The rest can just be defensive or quality of life skills?
Althouh I mained unlance in previous games (MH4U and onwards), the other reason I really like this weapon is, that it has a bit of tru build vriety, since for the other blademaster weapon ypu just need 4 pieces of Drachen and one of Nerg helm/Kushala Y waist/Empreess B chest and fill with decos. Call me old fashioned but I really want the old skill system back
Astera Jerky is all you need honestly. And the problem isn't really the nova but the damage the fire deals to you while you're around the stupid amount of fire that lion puts out
I always found that metas suck the fun out of everything because everyone just uses the statistically most powerful/optimal build there is. The diversity of making a crazy build, or one that you enjoy is slowly vanishing. *cries in Stealth and Sporepuff Expert build*
Yea man sry u lost me at "first beat leshen, then make a deviljoe weapon..." Those are 2 really difficult monsters that soneone just starting wondering what lowrank/high rank gear to get should probably hold off on. My opinion, focus on qualoty of life skills like health boost and earplugs, evade extender, etc until you get better. Then try for harder stuff.
9:13 question Isn't Max Might a Conditional Affinity Boost? I mean they way you describe it really sets it up as a Conditional Increase in Affinity since it requires full stamina, whereas Critical Eye is a true static affinity boost not requiring anything other than having the skill itself to be active.
My "normal armor" is 3 sets of vaal kulv chest and luna legs or dante legs. But with all these arch tempered monsters its all mix and match for the appropriate armor resistance and defensive skills for each top tiered monsters. Even 500 defence 40 res on fire and thunder is still not enough defense against behemoth. Really hate the fight because i can't do it solo.
I beat the game low rank with Puki puki the entire way until high rank, then I used chainmail and leather except for my death stench helmet. I never had much of an issue
Im running a tanky set using the chargeblade and a mixed set with Vaal pieces With health augmention and recovery up I feel like a Vampire who suck the life essence from monsters lmao

Nice video as always! Quick question tho, I’m currently running a Lance build (Eye Patch, Urgaan, Urgaan, Kaiser, Urgaan) will it still be viable if I switch my Lance to Deviljho’s and my Charm to Handicraft?
The Odogaron is a very nice Lance also. I main Lance and I used Jho's and Odo's a lot. If you can get the Taroth Crest Claw from Kulve Taroth, it's amazing for raw dps. A few of the elemental lances are viable as well.
I use dragon king eyepatch a, Dober mail b, nerg vambraces a, nerg coil b, and uragaan legs a with guard charm. The uragaan legs and charm gives guard and the rest is all damage. Gem to finish the missing skills.
Yeah Kulve and leshen. Unless you prefer to stick with the diablos one from the Stone age then sure there is alot of videos from launch you scan scrap and use

The amount of information that you have to keep track of in this game is just staggering.
Thanks for taking the time to create this very in depth video.
My definition of meta is health boost, speed eating, and free meal everything thing else is second
So this was my armor progression from start to now:
- Whatever first armor we got
- Barroth armor
- Odogaron Armor
- Odogaron Armor HR
- Xeno Armor
- Vaal armor
- (i got other armors after to just mess around)
Yes i know its quite a leap lol
Is Vaal better than Xeno?
Wish i saw this video before i started my wish list. I came into the same conclusion as far as armor pieces go but wasted hours researching it. About 140 hrs in and loving the theory craft of the game.
Marathon runner also applies to Wild Swing on the Switch Axe and Dash Thrust(Continuous) on Lances.
rath soul helmet, nergigante chest, drachen arms, kulve gamma belt, azurlord legs, constitution charm. and of course, filling up with decos for an A+ elemental bow build
Im with u
I used to think that but you only need to reverse hop most of the time, rarely do I sheathe to chase monsters. But I do like sneaking in 1 Evade Extender if I can afford it. Same with Switchaxe, you just have to learn to use the weapon's moveset to move around fast without needing EE.
If you don't have room for EE on a shelling based GL, you're doing something wrong lol.
Orphan Fromdabloc I have EE 1 on everything except Kulve builds. EE 2 and 3 on some of them.
Nothing to do with the video as it’s well done and good but anyone else feel the more you delve deep into all the super nerd numbers the less you care and just want to have fun
Why the dislikes? I just bought this game again and find this useful to ease back into the game. Ty
Its easily the most useless gamma set for meta builds, not even one armor piece has been used ever.
4 drachen pieces and whatever you want Video ends
Ooo, so what I'm getting is the Gerald set is good for almost everything? Because I can just put my attack jewels onto it and boost that for affinity on my karma bowgun untill I can get my deviljho parts and get that to farm charms when greatest jagras comes around.
The build I use for melee weapos is:
-Teostra Y head
-Kulve Y chest
-Teostra Y arms
-Lunastra Y coil
-Testra Y legs
-Weakness exploit charm and decoration
-Crit boost decoratios
-Vitality decoration
-Non elemental boost decoration (if needed)
-Fortiry decoration
Is it a viable build?
If it works for you, then yes it's viable.
Basically any build is viable. If you mean the most optimized for DPS, uhhh IDK I doubt it honestly you probably could get more damage by replacing some armor
ImpendingGhost how can I improve my DPS?
low rank i just build bone armour and that lasts till hard mode provided you make use of that vitality mantle
im a DUal blader
Just wanna take the time to say thank you for this super awesome video helps me out alot
Ever seen anyone do gaurd 5, gaurd up, health boost 3, part breaker three, max might 3, weakness exploit three?
I sure haven't, except me.
The King guard 5 is a bit much. I recently switched to guard 3 and barely felt the difference!
In other words good offence is the best defence. More dmg means you kill monster faster which in return means that it will have less time to attack you and thus do less dmg. Just have enough defence to not be 1-2 shoted so you have time to heal mid fight.
Beta armor
I call it skill!!!
Evry1 is Unique
But nice video✌
True used non upgraded bone armor untill high rank. Now using crit and WE gear.
If you know what attack charms are then you're already better than 70% of hunters I play with. It's crazy I have seen HR57 guys with default leather armor😭😭
How the FUCK did they get to HR57. That means they somehow beat 2 Tempered Bazelgeuse and then the Kirin.
RicochetForce, idk people are stubborn I guess, he was using a greatsword so maybe hit and run strategy. Also sos flare carry is a thing.
@@aylmaoxdxddd5687 Wow, getting carried through basically the entire game is some wild shit. And unfortunately I have seen some SOS Flare carries where they just stay at the camp or harvest. Hopefully something is done about that in Iceborne.
3:22 Marathon Runner Slows down stamina depletion, it is nothing to do with which you use, 3:47 i can use a bow if i want.
Bit late to the video not sure if the meta has changed but
High affinity
Critical boost
Masters touch
And that's about it? The rest can just be defensive or quality of life skills?
Althouh I mained unlance in previous games (MH4U and onwards), the other reason I really like this weapon is, that it has a bit of tru build vriety, since for the other blademaster weapon ypu just need 4 pieces of Drachen and one of Nerg helm/Kushala Y waist/Empreess B chest and fill with decos. Call me old fashioned but I really want the old skill system back
As someone who is armortarded, this was a wonderful video to help ease my disability. Thank you, sir.
Am I the only one who prioritises mushroom-mancer without the item extend range skill?
if i have Guard up + ear plug + heat guard + Nullify wind pressure will I able to survive Lunastra's nova with my shield up?
Astera Jerky is all you need honestly. And the problem isn't really the nova but the damage the fire deals to you while you're around the stupid amount of fire that lion puts out
I always found that metas suck the fun out of everything because everyone just uses the statistically most powerful/optimal build there is. The diversity of making a crazy build, or one that you enjoy is slowly vanishing.
*cries in Stealth and Sporepuff Expert build*
Yea man sry u lost me at "first beat leshen, then make a deviljoe weapon..."
Those are 2 really difficult monsters that soneone just starting wondering what lowrank/high rank gear to get should probably hold off on.
My opinion, focus on qualoty of life skills like health boost and earplugs, evade extender, etc until you get better. Then try for harder stuff.
KrazyKanzo earplugs? Just dodge when the screen blurs before the roar
9:13 question
Isn't Max Might a Conditional Affinity Boost? I mean they way you describe it really sets it up as a Conditional Increase in Affinity since it requires full stamina, whereas Critical Eye is a true static affinity boost not requiring anything other than having the skill itself to be active.
True, but weapons that use it are at full stamina when they attack. It's cheaper too.
Im kingda stuck at the end of the base game and iceborn, im wearing the guardian armor set and Defender shield V, any advice?
Thanks for the incredible guide!
He says build Geralt set to be powerful early on, but you can only get that armour at the end of MHW base game. P.S I haven't bought Icebourne
I main DB
So none of the meta sets are actually fun to play with... lovely...
Would it be possible to have the armor pieces written out in a list?
Why doesnt he just play the game for you?
Could you do this for MHGU ,*Over
My G with the best guides out there
Putting the geralt armor in this video is a major fail. You have to BEAT the game to get it and it NOT considered early game at this point.
Why use the Drachen y legs instead of Nergigante y legs? You get an extra slot that way.
Thanks bro!
0:09 grifith
I beat the game low rank with Puki puki the entire way until high rank, then I used chainmail and leather except for my death stench helmet. I never had much of an issue
Bout the same with me, I just kept buying what looked cool
I ran solo with the low rank bone armor up until nerg, then he forced me to get high rank armor.
Incorrect. Geralt's Torso is the sexiest armor.
Im running a tanky set using the chargeblade and a mixed set with Vaal pieces
With health augmention and recovery up I feel like a Vampire who suck the life essence from monsters lmao
"Static" implies that it doesn't change. Maximum might isn't static. I think you meant Crit Eye/ Attack Boost 4 affinity is static.
Max might is considered static bc it doesnt rely on HZV
Thanks for this new amazing guide ! Very clear for any new players.
P.S : loved the focus you made on Ciri's armor JK (which btw pairs pretty well with some non META but comfy switch axe builds)
LR:
anything goes
HR:
Zorah alpha or beta to pink rathian
Deviljho alpha all the way to tempered beetle juice
Ingot armor beta with lots of armor sphere investment for tempered kirin
LR: anything
HR: Odogaron armor until you can make Nergi, then use Nergi to get Drachen
@@Dave_Chrome LR: Anything
HR: Mixed Sets till you can get Drachen to make even better Mixed sets
OMFG HES WEARING FULL URAGAAN
haha, I was wondering if anyone would comment on that
Uragaan + Dodo head with a lance of you'd like to look like a golden chicken tank ^_~
Nice video as always! Quick question tho, I’m currently running a Lance build (Eye Patch, Urgaan, Urgaan, Kaiser, Urgaan) will it still be viable if I switch my Lance to Deviljho’s and my Charm to Handicraft?
Jho lance is very strong you should be fine
The Odogaron is a very nice Lance also. I main Lance and I used Jho's and Odo's a lot. If you can get the Taroth Crest Claw from Kulve Taroth, it's amazing for raw dps. A few of the elemental lances are viable as well.
You guys can keep your fugly looking meta builds with mismatched armor while I fashion soul it up and look glorious XD.
Sure man lemme just put on those artillaty dec- OH WAIT I CAN NEVER FIND THEM
Edit: *don't get me started on attack decorations*
farm "the name's lavasioth" event like there's no tomorrow, it's coming back soon
@@cyco7229 can never seem to get enough elementless decos lol
Theres meta and then there's me hr 99 with no affinity booster, no rocksteady mantle and vigor vasp for palico
TribunalxWarrior same I’m hr 70 with none of those.. I still rock my vitality mantle
@@itsunclemagic I'm sad to say that Vitality mantle is pretty shit against endgame monsters. Completely useless.
I dont get all this nearly HR60 now with just zorah armour
Is it high affinity and critical boost? Ya know. 100% affinity, at the very least with tenderizer.
Whats a good armor build for lances or gun lances
uragaan
@@sweetnibblets1499 like the whole set?
I use dragon king eyepatch a, Dober mail b, nerg vambraces a, nerg coil b, and uragaan legs a with guard charm. The uragaan legs and charm gives guard and the rest is all damage. Gem to finish the missing skills.
great explanations really helpful
Post story is the best moment for made a set
I love marathon runner lance.
Waiting for the meta for G rank i MEA master rank. Since all Master rank armor i have unlock at the moment are pretty decent but nothing great T_T
What about status weapons? Build like an elemental weapon, or just build damage?
Depends, element is barely noticeable anyway.
I don’t understand what 5 and 6 mean at 8:25
Can someone post Dual Blade meta build and how to get them (no ps+) i prefer play solo THX
Best dual blades come from group quests like KT and leshen, you should get ps+ on events is worth
Yeah Kulve and leshen. Unless you prefer to stick with the diablos one from the Stone age then sure there is alot of videos from launch you scan scrap and use
A DB set I'm using rn is Kjarr Ice DB, Kush Beta Helm, Drachen Armor, Handicraft charm, Attack Deco, 3 Tendy decos, a critical boost deco, and I think some QoL gems
