      Since you asked, yes, watched the whole thing. Very informative and concise. Pretty cool to see you tie all of your experience with bowguns into 1 video.
      One question though. How does rathalos mastery affect elemental ammo types?
      Thanks for the video!

      @@anubrakahn2970 good question, I'm not sure and hope to see more expert replies but I think it works as for any other weapon, the same way crit boost has a very small effect on that ammo. Also Bowguns have the highest crit element modifier after bow, dual blades and SnS, so I'd say it's the most valuable damage boost you can get after free ammo and spareshot.

      At 37:00, you have 2 levels of Thunder Atk on the set you're using, so your comparison experiment between Thunder ammo and Freeze ammo is not reliable...

      Also elemental ammo don't all pierce the same way. Ice for example, only does 2 ticks of damage.
      As for Tranq ammo, its main advantage is that it saves you 1 inventory slot, because you don't have to take tranq bombs.

    When bringing up elemental ammo, it reminds me that elemental damage caps are the biggest reason we have such a stagnant meta for most weapons.
    Also, impact mantle plus dragon ammo will grab you a quick KO for non-spread bowguns.

    If someone gets here now that people are returning to world THIS IS IMPORTANT:
    Normal ammo has a use now on Heavy Bowgun, healing yourself with the lifesteal augment
    You used to be able to heal so much with spread/pierce but they added a 0.2s cooldow to avoid the ridiculous healing of those ammos.
    So now, if you want to heal yourelf with that augment, you have to usa normal ammo 3 (and it heals you pretty nicely)
    It also gives you a lot of veraatility and it's doesn't fall taht behind on damage outside speedruning

  • @Secret_Takodachi
    @Secret_Takodachi 5 лет назад

    Appreciate the video and all the personal experience info that you mixed in, I'm adding this to my MHW playlist so that I'll have one more reference for learning something new!
    Capcom claims that the Charge Blade is a complicated/technical weapon; after watching this I'd say the ranged weapons are muchhh more complicated.
    I mean I get the basics:
    Spread ammo is the "shotgun" style;
    Normal ammo is basic individual rounds no special features or anything only important point is to maximize crit chance/damage & use the normal ammo boost skill to improve DPS
    Sticky ammo is like a primative version of the plasma grenade from Halo (stick it on a target & wait for the boom..., even if it doesnt kill it the blast can KO large targets)
    The ammo isn't complicated but there are enough small points to remember about what type to use in certain situations that combined with the way various bowguns provide more or less options for ammo choice AND within that range the quality of the firerate and damage can be variable depending on bowgun mods which are setup based on a particular hunt's conditions like quick moving monster or something that's large slow and long *there's wayyy more to ranged fighting than I expected* when it comes to preparation for a hunt.
    I started MHW with the charge blade and that's preschool levels of complicated compared to all the stuff bowgun users need to do in terms of customizing radial menus for crafting and making sure the mods on the weapon are changed for the particular hunt and then adjusting slotted decorations to include ones like minds eye in order to change your effective range!
    I'm just trying to spice up my grind lol I still need to get a capacity boost decoration and figured that I'd mix up my gameplay since Ive got multiples of all the top rated kulve bowguns AND all the R7 and R8 ranged decorationds.

    When you got Mind's Eye\Ballistic + Long Barrel, using Normal-Shot 3 with HBG means you practically own the area. With the monsters constantly moving, it allows you to consistently provide good amount of damage overtime. So yeah, it has it's uses.
    The Rapid fire does 100% damage with the first shot, with 50% of damage on the last 2 shots, effectively doing 2x the damage with the ammo. While that seems good on paper, you have to admit that the Burst-Fire does prolong the time between shots.
    In my testing: (Methodology = shooting at small-barrel-bomb point-blank, and stopping when it explodes.)
    Using Tarroth Blitz "Shot", Normal-2 RF deals 36 + 18 + 18 = 72 Damage, Normal-3 Single-Shot deals 61 damage
    - Normal-2 RF +2 Recoil = 2 Shots = 144 Damage
    - Normal-2 RF +1 Recoil = 2 1/3 Shots = 180 Damage (note, technically 3, but 3rd shot fails to release final 2 bullets.
    - Normal-3 +2 Recoil = 3 Shots = 183 damage.
    Using Tarroth Assault "Blast". Normal-2 Deals 33 damage, Normal-3 Deals 56 damage
    - Normal-2 +2 Recoil = 3 Shots = 99 damage.
    - Normal-2 +1 Recoil = 4 Shots = 132 damage.
    - Normal-3 +2 Recoil = 3 Shots = 168 damage.
    - Normal-3 +1 Recoil = 4 Shots = 212 damage.
    If you looked at the result of my test, though admittedly not fool-proof, the unabridged shot of single-shots versus Rapid-Fire means you get to deliver damage faster, if not efficiently. Even though the Rapid-Fire of Normal-2 would yield better damage, the faster follow-up shots of Normal-3 means it could compete with Rapid-Fire LV2, and even win if both are +1 Recoil.
    And then if we looked at the skills Mind's-Eye\Ballistic with the mod Long-Barrel, you could have almost twice your Critical Range, and in Iceborne where every monster moves stupidly fast, that is quite a boon compared to melee-weapons, though the sticky and slicing ain't. And then add in the fact that Normal-3 has waaaay faster projectile-speed than Normal-2, you got an ammo that could participate at a range better.
    Granted, other ammo like Sticky and Pellet will definitely out-damage Normal-3 builds, but certainly it can compete with Normal-2 builds if you get it right.

    Exhaust ammo can be really nice on the Karma LBG because you get rapid fire on lv 1. This makes it hell of a lot easier to actually knock out monsters than you would with sticky ammo (the Karma only has sticky lv 1 and it's horrible at using it) and on top of that it's just really fast to apply that exhaust if you happen to have a valid target.

    • @vitriolicAmaranth
      @vitriolicAmaranth 5 лет назад +1

      XX/GU had level 2 elemental ammo (kind of the equivalent of normal 2, higher damage-per-shot) and pierce elemental ammo (exactly what it sounds like, closer to what elemental is in W by default but with closer hit spacing). In past games normal 3 was also its own thing- Ricochet ammo- But it caused a lot of confusion, which is probably why they changed it in World. People would use it thinking it was just better than normal 2 (it did less damage per-hit, and using it normally it would only hit once, though it could hit up to like six times if you aimed it just right), and because it was so unpredictable and difficult to aim, it was never favoured by high-tier players (for that matter, normal in general wasn't- Any ammo type could be rapidfired, so for both LBG and HBG pierce was basically always favoured between the three basic ammo classes).
      In some senses, World fixed/addressed balance issues that had been present in all past games, but in most cases it just created new ones in the process. There's even more of a dominant strategy for each weapon/monster and even less room for alternate strategies/more of a gap between "best" and "second best" in World.

    I have a request is it possible for you to make some sort of tutorial about how to farm these ammo types efficiently and which ones we should put inside of the tree and which ones we shouldn't basically how can we farm for a lot of these ammo types efficiently because it's too expensive to buy them and that's really the biggest problem about these two weapons and to a lesser extent the bow and arrow.

    • @DoesItMatterAtAll
      @DoesItMatterAtAll 5 лет назад +1

      Just play the game, ammo is some of the cheapest thing to buy in the game, if you're lacking the money for it, you probably haven't got very far at all.
      Also, it's probably gonna be on sale for half price during the Appreciation Festival the 26th, so look out for that, and gather some riches.
      I suggest you mostly stock up on lv. 1 ammo types and lv. 2 and 3 of gunpowder when you do.
      If you use the Botanical Research to get ammo materials, don't just use them to craft ammo, it's much more useful to keep the raw materials to craft more ammo *during* a quest.

    I watched the entire thing, loving every second of it. Which is weird considering how I have no real interest in using bowguns, as Sword & Shield is the only weapon that seems visually appealing to me.

    I’ve watched this whole video a couple of times and I’m still learning. I just got into high rank and it seems like heavy bow guns are better at rarity 5 or 6 and higher.

    Another good pierce ammo hbg i think you should have included was legiana shattercyst its really good because it needs no recoil or reload mods and it has all 3 pierce ammos

    On your sticky ammo info artillery does boost it but attack mods and challenger peek performance will increase its dmg output as well my devourer tends to hit in the 90+ even over 100 on certain monsters nice vid watched the whole thing your hb g kulv counter vid got me addicted to hbg lol

    Was expecting some motion value explanations, but good video still. Little note about N3 and element/status... If they kept the mechanics from older games, N3 has VERY slightly weaker power compared to N2 (like 1MV less), but ricochets (although it doesn't mean the ricochet will land, it's just a random +1 hit). As for element/status, affinity doesn't affect them unless you have the Elemental Crit or Status Crit skills. Also, elemental shots actually ignore your attack and instead do FIXED elemental damage (I think 70 if it's same from past games, which is then multiplied by part defense, so a 30 weakness to thunder would mean 21 damage on single shot thunder ammo).

    A 50% displayed affinity build with weakness exploit works excellent for Kulve, actually. I farm KT with a set that gives me said 50% displayed crit alongside water and thunder attack 3 and critical element, focus and special shot up, using the Styx LBG.
    The reason for this is simple - WE works on molten Kulve parts. So at the start, you focus on the chest and arms(and perhaps the gold
    plating), which all proc WE(water attack is more consistent on the arms if youre shooting from the front). Once she rages, her entire body becomes a weakpoint and procs WE e v e r y w h e r e.
    Also, other Styx LBG users, PLEASE drop attack skills. Youre better off with partbreaker, more crit or water attack 3, or even bombardier. This is actually info not in the video - elemental ammo is actually part pierce and part full elemental. Any and all attack boosts beyond the raw of the weapon only ever affects that tiny, tiny pierce part of the damage, and has absolutely no effect on the elemental part.

    So many people sleep on normal ammo 3. Each level of normal ammo has INCREASED VELOCITY. Normal ammo 3 on HBGs is an excellent option for pinpoint firing.

    Since you asked: I listened to the the whole thing. Just recently I discovered my interest for the HBG - and I am still a noob and need to learn so much. This helped me a ton already. Thanks :) A question: For the wake up with the wyvern fire I need to be as close as possible? I just recently read that because of the double tap I should'nt be to close because the weaker hit hits first. Is this fake news?

      Exhaust ammo does apply exhaust as well, but it does both KO and exhaust. The exhaust is not that helpful against end game monsters except for behemoth. The KO is much more useful
