  • It's nice to have the vacuum inside the CNC enclosure - less noise and fewer things on the floor.

Been there! Before you were born I bought a small, cheap vacuum for our home (It looked identical to yours!). It's suction was amazing, but the tiny cloth bag made it useless! I could not allow myself to throw away a brand new appliance, so it went back into it's box, and we have carted it around from place to place for about forty years!! 🥴
When I retired, I started doing more woodwork as a pastime... cheap shop-vacs were useless, so I set out to "do my own thing", using ideas from the University of RUclips, and based on the little vacuum. I ended up with a thein-baffle separator on top of a ten litre bucket. This was built into a simple cart which has hose and power cord storage, a mains power plugboard, a flat top to lay tools on, and an anglepoise work lamp on a telescoping column. The little vacuum has gone from unwanted orphan to best buddy, and comes with me all around the workspace. 😄
BTW, the thein baffle separator was well worthwhile, and simple to make. A certain amount of really fine dust still gets through to the vacuum bag, but most is caught in the bucket. If I ever remake it, I will most likely try a conical separator, along the lines of the Dust Deputy. I don't know how it would handle metal... that's a challenge for the future! 😉

What a story! It deserves a video 😀

@@MaximKachurovskiy : Maybe someday... but on a different topic. The cart just "sort of happened", no plan or slick design. It would be like going to the Proms with the ugliest girl in school; she might be good in the dark, but I wouldn't want to be seen with her in daylight! 😉 🥴
