- 2023 Genesis GV60 Performance review by The Straight Pipes. The Electric Genesis GV60 is putting down up to 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque from two electric motors and a77kw/h battery. At $79,000 CAD, would you take it over the Ioniq5 or the EV6?

you got to love the mad little Koreans at Hyundai Kia for making this one

Great car but different class than the Ioniq 5 or EV6 imo. For many people the Ioniq or EV6 is already stretching their budget to the max so not everybody would be able to splurge another 25-30k on top of that.
Exactly, but some surely can. I would buy grand touring lucid if I could, its beautiful. However, Even if I could afford this, the exterior is ust not my style. But EVs are always welcomed..keep building!
Exactly. I gave up my pre order for ev6 to see the pricing of gv60 and now I'm Regretting 😥
personally i still think the ev6 and ionic 5 are much better looking cars
Absolutely true, in Australia the GV60 is starting above $100k AUD vs Ioniq 5 and EV6 which are around $70k+, they're not even the same ballpark.
@@homeboy2233 you had to give up your order just to see pricing? What?
Kia vs Hyundai vs Genesis
Perfect Civil War
KIA is Hyundai is Genesis
Yes… just like America was America when they fought America in The Civil War
@@paulcfurr85 yes and... not quite. Hyundai Motor Group owns about 1/3 of Kia. Genesis lineup shares basically nothing with Hyundai lineup... until now.

G90 and K900 were somewhat related for the last generation. The K900 has been discontinued.
G70, GV70, Stinger are the only ones that are directly related underneath although different body types.
No Genesis is just a leatherwrapped Hyundai (except the EV trios) unlike other manufacturers. All Lexus is based on a Toyota, All Cadillac is based on a Chevy, All Lincoln is based on a Ford... etc etc
Updated: saw a GV60 on the way to the airport in Seoul yesterday in matte gray color… it looked pretty slick in that color
I’ve been in Seoul the past two weeks and really love seeing the Ioniqs on the road. A lot of taxi drivers are in Ioniqs. They’re so slick. Korea is so fun as a testing ground for futuristic stuff. Even their newer gas pumps are all futurish. (Also, side note, playing screen golf in korea is badass!)
Cool
Was the golf environment poor?
A gas pump?
I've seen lots of Ioniq (and Kia EV6) taxis here in Finland as well.
You can buy it for like $20k if you're a taxi driver. Government pays the rest!
The interior really catches up to the Ioniq 5 and the EV6 class, the exterior design however, not even close.
I would say the interior design destroys the EV6 and Ioniq5, but yeah, the exterior is very meh.
It gives me Pontiac Aztec vibes
It looks like a neutered veloster
I love the interior and those hard buttons are far superior. I think the exterior is still awkward looking and I prefer the looks of both the Ioniq 5 and EV6. I wish it looked as good as the other Genesis models. Hopefully the hard buttons eventually come to the other cars.
Couldn't agree more
if they made the front just like other genesis models this would have looked sick but instead they chose to round off the front yuck
Exterior is really similar to the hyundai kona electric.
Best comment here… how does your guy think the exterior looks better than the EV6 or Model Y? Are you blind?
P
Finally! Is this the first EV with customizable sound modes? I’ve been waiting on them to do this and to let you upload new engines tones for so long!
The custom sound option is just basically choose the preset, then choose the response rate and volume. You can't upload your sound
Tesla does that don’t they ?
@@alexanderlinares8375 taycan too I think
@@alexanderlinares8375 Tesla only has sound for the outside speaker and horn tho, GV60 is for the inside
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH your comment is... oddly hostile. Swimpoole never said they were gonna buy an EV just because it has customizable sounds. They are just excited that it's finally a feature that other manufacturers will copy.
Moved from a Ioniq 5 ultimate(limited) to a GV60 performance. I really loved the I5 and honestly wasn't initially sure about loosing the extra 4 inches of rear passenger room and just over a cubic foot of trunk space but now that I have lived with the GV60 for a month I have to admit its on a level well above the I5 in comfort, better quality build materials and overall features. Big plus for the genuine nappa leather seat seating vs leatherette (ppu vinyl) in top tier I5 , really appreciate the active bolstering ,massage feature on long drives. It also has a much nicer leather quality on the steering wheel. The 17 speaker active noise reduction B+O stereo is clearly superior to the relatively anemic BOSE system in the I5. GV60 has slicker infotainment software, redundant yet intuitive controls. The GV60 suspension is significantly more comfortable, controllable with road preview, electronic adaptive dampeners and ESD. Even though my I5 had technically superior HDA2 (highway driver assist) hardware for some reason the HDA(no automated lane changing) in the GV60 seems to work better at the core function of recognizing highway lane markings and keeping you in the center without steering wheel hunting. I totally appreciate the biometrics(face recognition, fingerprint reader) to unlock and drive without a key.
Even though I didn't think I would appreciate the extra power and boost feature on the GV, it clearly brings the 12 year old out of me and I can't help but smile every time I hit the little yellow button, lol. Then there is total bragging rights on being capable of running a quarter mile in low 12 seconds. Its a crazy fast car for the price. It has appreciably brighter headlight LEDs than the top spec I5, paint quality on the GV60 is on a totally different level. Another significant perk is that even without a wiper on the rear window of both cars the GV60 keeps it clean and visible almost under all precipitation conditions. The I5 was terrible in that regard, slightest amount of rain made the rear window unusable.
Another huge benefit of the GV60 that is totally overlooked by car reviewers is that it uses conventional HOAT coolant for its battery and electronic loops vs the 2 separate coolants that include 12 liters of very expensive low conductive coolant in the I5. The I5 requires a $700-1000 coolant change every 60,000km to maintain its warranty. First coolant change in the GV60 is not required until 200,000 km and is much cheaper. Additionally here in Canada Genesis includes connected services, free routine maintenance(including cabin filters) every 10-12,000km for the first 5 years. The I5 in Canada Hyundai only covers 3 years of free connected services and maintenance is totally on your dime. Additionally Genesis will come to your home or office to pickup/deliver your car and leave a Genesis loaner while in service. In summary the I5 is awesome but if you can afford it look at the GV60 as I think most folks will appreciate the upgrades.
The Straight Pipes during their EV6 GT review said they prefer the Kia. Which is faster and cheaper.
Great review! Was also nostalgic for the subscription outro and the way Yuri says "Canadian" at the price like in the older videos
Yes! Just finished the video and couldn’t agree more!!
Love you guys and love the GV60! Great job guys!!
That intro was AMAZING
the new carplay will definitely look good here, complements the circular and soft lines design of the interior
I don’t think this car will be able to support the new generation car play. I think that might start in 2023. I could be mistaken though.
@@nickhanif5460 you are not but it may come as an over the air update who knows, or maybe it will come as standard in the second gen gv60
@@StephenNeoXIII I think only Polestar can add the carplay update. Most companies like Hyundai don't have a high bandwidth bus from the infotainment computer to the gauge cluster. Polestar can because they show a Google Maps feed from the infotainment.
It's running the new Nvidia infotainment system
Just got the EV6, it is wired carplay only (wtf). Got a wireless adaptor and honestly, I'm sort of preferring the Kia connect anyway. I would love to what the new carplay could do, but honestly the Kia infotainment is pretty awesome (coming from a Subaru though, so ANYTHING would be an improvement)
Starting at 71,150 (Canaaadian). No RIP here, the whole appeal of the Ioniq 5 and EV6 are that they start 15 grand under the Model 3 which itself is *still* 11 grand cheaper than this.
Yeah exactly, money is a thing for most people.
And this is soooo much more of it 😂
I'm on the wait list for an Ioniq 5, no reason to change it for this, nicer interior be damned.
Jakub's face at 08:00 when he launches is just priceless! 😅
based on the price tag ill need to go ahead with the ioniq 5. i dont see how this would go up against the ioniq 5 or ev6 considering the big difference in price but thats just me
EV6 is still the best of the 3 but I will say that the infotainment and hard buttons in the GV60 are the best of the triplets. EV6 looks, range and handling with GV60 interior would be sweet.
I disagree entirely. I think the EV6 is the worse of the three and the ugliest as well.
I work for Hyundai and considering the price difference, a ioniq 5 awd ultimate is still a very good option, plus, the ioniq 5 N will be on the same platform as the g60 and have a sportier feel to it
Same with the EV6
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. -How much can the power/weight ratio be?. What about total power (horsepower)?. 🤔
I get the appeal but the EV6 would still be my choice, cheaper and it has better range too. Only thing missing is a pano-roof
I like the moon roof. Sometimes I want external air without the turbulent wind.
@@jghall00 Open the back windows
Difference in the US between AWD EV6 GT Line and the better equipped GV60 Advanced is only about 3000 USD. I think if you are going to get a EV6 GT or Ioniq 5 Limited, might as well drop the extra 3-5k and get the Genesis, which has such a nicer interior along with better infotainment and other features too.
@@tren133 Yeah, in Canada the EV6 starts at 46k CAD and goes up to 65k CAD for the GT PKG2 (all with taxes and Gov. Rebate). GV60 starts at 79k (tax included) and goes up to 88k (performance). To me, looking at the GV60. I'm not sold on that 2020 Renault Twingo interior, sure there are some cool features here and there but range is still a big thing for me. Pay more and get less than a cheaper counterpart does not make sense to me. Even the entry trim for the EV6 has a similar range than the entry trim for the GV60 and costs 33k less than the latter.
@Konstantin Ridaya EV6 opens. Ioniq 5 doesnt.
LOVE Genesis, but this may be their first not good looking car. Interior looks great.
I think this one looks good with that color.
Agreed. I hate the looks of this but I love the interior. I have an EV6 myself.
@@Mildern how is the ev6? Real world experience wise. Anything worth noting that your standard review may not address?
@@definitelynotthecia4998 I love it so far at 4 months. One thing that most reviews do is bitch about things like the media/climate screen but in practice it works great.
@@Mildern appreciate it! It'll probably be my next car. Smartest move for someone who drives as much as me might be a Tesla just for those superchargers but I don't want to be another tesla npc lol. Also the Kia looks way way way better than the model 3 or y. Also I disagree with these guys about the ioniq. It's a cool retro design but the Kia is overall a cleaner and better look.
White interiors are like white sneakers, if you actually use them they look like garbage within a year or two.
I would pick this car over the ev6 and ioniq 5 just because this one has hard buttons.... however I don't do luxury cars which basically means I can't afford this lol
I am with you, I like the interior a lot but I am too frugal to pay that much.
Absolutely. That radio/climate control combination on the EV6 is an abomination.
Honestly, I don't know how ANYONE who isn't wealthy can afford most new cars. 8 year loans? That's insane. I live in the Midwest, and even with a combined household income (wife and I) of over $200k, I can't stomach paying these inflated vehicle prices.
I’m a young mexican trying to get out the Hood.. i smoke weed on my RUclips channel & i did a Mukbang inside Lowes👀😨
Just rent it for a weekend.
Good timing on this. Have been considering this car, and I even saw my first EV6 on the road yesterday and it was pretty slick looking, so I'm very conflicted now.
Ya I think they’re all sold out so whatever
I moved from a GV70 to an Ioniq 5 Limited, and I wouldn’t get the GV60 instead of the Ioniq 5. It’s much shorter, and has a lot less luggage space, and in my view it’s just ugly, particularly from the side profile. I find the Ioniq 5 Limited trim to be more than comfortable and luxurious enough. Once you use the Ioniq for a while, you figure out quick workarounds for the missing physical buttons. It’s no longer an issue for me.
How was the switch from GV70? Was it a difficult decision? The GV70 is stunning!
@@fysejamaliable It was sort of difficult. The GV70 is not only stunning, in top trim, it’s the most luxurious car I’ve ever owned. I miss that part of it. But once I test drove an Ioniq 5 and sat in a limited trim, the decision was easy. There’s something about instant torque and not paying for gas that is highly addictive.
You can jump back to the GV70 when the EV version arrives next year!
@@therealevan if I can afford it, maybe. But I will say that I love the interior space of the Ioniq because it was built to be an EV from the ground up. Still, the GV70 is so damn gorgeous inside and out. Will be interesting to see how they price it.

EV6/Ioniq 5/GV60 cheatsheet:
Best suspension: Ev6 (Ioniq 5 and GV60 extremely floaty)
Interior space: 1) Ioniq 5 2) EV6 3) GV60
Best Infotainment: GV60
Price: 1) Ioniq 5 2) EV6 3) GV60
Outside looks are subjective. But overall i like the ev6 the best and is why i bought one after sitting in all three
The front end of the ev6 is two low though and it looks off but the rest is cool
Well it's a rip until the ionic 5 N and kia ev6 gt come out I'm actually excited for those cars
That and the ridiculous removal of the Augmented Reality HUD makes this car not quite a slam dunk.
That futuristic engine sound is amazing, it sounds like the starship Enterprise going into warp drive
🤷🏻♂️ To each’s own. I hate it and find it incredibly annoying.
Must be THE bling-bling of all bling-blings.
Out of the 3 I would get the Hyundai, but I like how the interior is really nice in this!
I guess I’m weird, I prefer the look of the Genesis … looks like the best of EV6 and Ioniq 5
Can’t wait to get my hands on this 😉👍🏻. IMHO, the best of the lot
I really like the interior of this car, but the exterior absolutely ruins it. It looks terrible, I’ll stick with my Ioniq5. The Ioniq5 has way more than enough power, the interior is still very nice, suspension is comfortable, looks unlike anything else on the road (in a good way), and costs way, way less than the GV60.
Agree. Actually looks cheaper than the Ioniq if you ask me.
Ngl I love that futuristic sound
I was just about to say
Sounds like a TRON bike. Love it!
Ridiculous lol 😆 😂
Insane
Come on, guys. Smarten up. Not fair to compare this car with Ioniq5 or EV6. It's like comparing a Lexus to a Camry. You should compare them to similar classes like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc. Although there aren't many EVs from these manufacturers yet. But still no excuse to compare the Genesis with Ioniq5 or EV6.
This may be my new SUV after the Telluride... These gas prices now days🤯
I wish I didn't have another year of college ahead of me. I would have sold my car already for an EV.
If you need a 3 row SUV then ... GV90 is coming probably next year. It's going to be an EV 3 row luxury SUV.
@@biglee13m oh wow. Yeah I didn't know that. Thanks!
Looks great! These days I feel Japanese cars are somehow behind recent electric trend, but Korean car makers are doing better...
Saw a EV6 early last night. Came up from behind me. Didn’t know what it was until I moved over to let it pass. Unbelievable light work on this car. Totally beautiful front and back in a darker blue color. The rear lighting is phenomenal IMO. Looks are subjective but that Kia was better than any electric I’ve seen.
I drove behind my EV6 (wife driving) when we picked it up from the dealer and it really does have a pretty badonka-donk at night. My wife has yet to experience the true beauty of its 'dumper' at night. ;-P
So now, we have huge glossy displays, front and center on the dash. Positively smothered in ugly smudges...
Sorry, not a fan of touch interfaces in cars. Using touchscreen phones in your car is illegal, but touch infotainment is okay? 🤦
Folks didn't like the look of the GV60 - but I like it! I ALSO like the EV6 but yeah, IONIC5 looks the best of the bunch. The interior on this one though..................🤤
This car is a Monster
Ionic 5 looks better change my mind
It's driving me nuts but I literally never get notified that you guys posted anything in months!! It bums me out so much, I've turned off and on "all notifications" and it does nothing 😩
Can we have a review of Tesla Model Y and comparison with all the hot EV models on the market?
I really advise not getting an interior with white seats, unless you wear white pants or white dresses all the time! And jeans? They stained the seats!
Love the reviews... I'll be waiting for the GV70 EV.. That thing looks amazing compared to all these goofy models out now
Ioniq 5 is goofy?
It sounds so good I don’t know if you have seen back in the 90s they had knight rider 2000 on tv and it sounds almost identical to that
His name is Kit. Show some respect
I’m still 8 years out from buying an ev (2030) but looking forward to seeing what they can do.
That’s a very specific date to buy an EV…
Tough choice between the Ioniq 5, EV6 and GV60e. For me, it's probably the GV70 electric that should be out next year...
Am I the only one who thinks the exterior of this car is strongly unattractive?
That's a really sweet car...
I'd take a Model Y over this for many reasons but primarily range. 378 km vs 531 km. Then there's the super charging vs the unreliable CCS.
The wheels are amazing. When talking about how the lights look it would be helpful to show high beam, turn signal, brake light etc.
i'm SO proud of y'all for getting the SiriusXM sponsorship, what a full circle moment :)
They do have augmented realty. I'm not sure why you all couldn't find it. Maybe you have to go to the map or something. For the face Id entrance you need to keys to set it up, but after that no need for your key. They also have phone as a key and the key fob for entrance.

@@TheStraightPipes no it was just them going to a fast charger. You guys should try the one without the mirror and cameras are inside on the door that replaces them.

I have been wondering this for years. What’s up with you and throttle house? Do you guys not like each other? I’d expect you guys to collaborate and be friends, but it seems they completely ignore your reviews and you guys ignore theirs. When I first started watching you, you had like no subscribers so I figured that was why, but now…. Anyways, sorry, just been wondering for a long time now lol.

Why does it sound like you are on main deck of the Enterprise going through warp factor 9 when you accelerate?
It’s called “the future”
These new EV’s are the most ugliest looking cars
I wonder if the EV6 suspension can be fitted to this car as a direct bolt-on? Would be nice to have a more sporty, less under-steery, premium electric car.
I'm thinking it's a direct plug and play.
This is all-around a very nice vehicle and one I would love to own. However, as it has been pointed out, for the difference in price, I would be perfectly happy in an EV6. My criteria for the next vehicle is really pretty basic - AWD and heated steering wheel are complete must haves. However, in the EV marketplace when AWD comes into play, so does a whole new set of prices...
On comparing this to EV6 and Ioniq 5… How insane would it be if it were NOT better for an extra $20k? I don’t think they’ll be cross-shopped, so I think the comparison is pointless.
In my 2018 Nissan Leaf I tried to charge at an Ivy charger on my way back from Toronto on an onRoute and both chademo chargers didn't work, and the other two had the same tesla adaptors zip-tied to them so I couldn't use them, support restarted the station and it still didn't work. First time I've had a problem using a public charger, AND first time using an Ivy. Had to go to a Flo charger, which hasn't let me down yet.
The classic outro made me smile :)
If this interior was in the Hyundai Ionic 5 they would have a sales monster.
Manufacturer plate is brilliant
Lightning bolts firing on the panoramic roof on the take off intro ? Tell me genesis did that ! 😃
My 1989 chevy corsica came with a drawer type glove box. Pretty cool. Cars should come back with bench style front seating.
I don't think this will be an EV6 killer. To get the straight line performance, you are at a significantly higher cost than say the EV6 Wind AWD. Infotainment is definitely nice. However, for me, the most practical considerations are range and handling. Both seem significantly better on the EV6. Ionic maybe not as much. That body roll on the GV60 concerns me. As for looks, I think it is very nice, the same as the EV6. Ionic would be third for me. Overall, I still lean EV6 (AWD versions).
Both Ioniq and EV6 in Los Angeles are sold out and being marked up 10% - 15%. Ugh.
Yeeeeeehhhhh. The outro is baaaack. thats ma boys. kudos amigos.
Wow they finally figured out how to make an EV that looks acceptable!
The EV6 is my favorite in terms of design, but this performance model only being $70K is a relatively good price considering in my area ( Ohio ) the Kia Dealers are marking up the EV6 GT- Line by $20K making it over $70K which is ridiculous when you can get this GV60 for the same price, more power, & nicer materials. Hyundai & Kia Dealers really need to chill on the markups. I still do prefer the exterior stylingof the EV6 over this tho. This kinda looks like it came out of the early 2000s bubble craze.
Seriously, dealerships make every car company worse.
Its not like this one wont be ridiculously marked up also.
@@sloanNYC it's ridiculous man but imo Kia & Hyundai have always had horrible dealer experiences in general. That's the biggest thing that's still hurting their brand
@@ThinkBeFree99 I've noticed they don't mark the Genesis products up nearly as much as the Hyundai & Kia products. My main service center is both a Hyundai & Genesis and they've had stuff priced super reasonably but at the same time the Hyundai's will have $5k - $10k tacked on. I think it's mainly bc Hyundais are priced so low in general that the dealer feels it won't effect the buyers as much
@@_dmfd been to all kinds of dealerships, the service is all too similar to make a big enough diff.

If nothing else the interior is beautiful
1. You can change the car color on other genesis too (I have a GV70)
2. The fingerprint sensor can be used to start the car without your keys. You can use the app to unlock and get in. I’ve done this when I forgot my keys once. My hunch is the face unlock doesn’t need your key.
Just placed my deposit on the EV6 GT- 576 HP, adjustable dampers and better brakes. Should be a blast when/if it ever arrives!
Man I just LOVED the sound of the motor at launch. It's insane 😍😍
I have never been an advocate, but with this split spoiler I wish they went the extra step and did the rearview camera in the mirror.
I literally love everything else on the GV60 though. Tough choice between this and a Polestar 2.
That was great. You didn’t even look like you were trying but it was good fun.

Great car !!
Hyundai GV60 Performance "Hands down the biggest EV smoke show so far." Has to be the most misleading (but literally true) quote eva!
Let’s just address the elephant in the room. For all that this thing gets right in terms of power and the interior, the exterior styling is straight ass. It’s generic and cheesy in terms of overall shape with a whack front end thrown on so that you can tell it apart from other vehicles. This is the same formula used to style cars in GTA. Kind of looks like something from the side and the back and then you get to the front and WTF?
