Ryan, as a Tesla (multiple) owner myself let's me honest, the Genesis build quality, fit n' finish, ride quality, quientness of the ride, and luxury that it provides is way better than our Teslas. The review had a lot of bias in terms of making it seem like the model Y (being the civic of EVs) comes even close to a lot of the luxury touches the GV60 has that trumps our Teslas. It's not close. Even with the price drop of Teslas, which puts them where they should be, the better built Genesis and luxury you get is more justifiable. At the previous prices with teslas which were and are over priced you can't say the same as it's nowhere near luxury. Teslas are slapped together appliances on wheels that so happens to have the best software, great driving dynamics (GV60 does as well) and charging network (overall yes, but look at what Out of Spec just uploaded with Dave charging his wife's GV60-P at a Tesla SC). A Tesla 3/Y is a DIY car which happens to be one of the reasons why I like it so much. The S isn't that well built either and the X is a hit or a miss. But for those in the market for a luxury EV, tesla does NOT come close to something like the Genesis or even the mach-e, which is far better built than Teslas.
Finally a honest opinion from a Tesla owner. I will buy 2 Teslas if they can get the build quality like the Genesis or a Lexus. MS for me and MYLR for my wife. Heck I will even buy one for my son once he goes to college in a couple of years. Typical Tesla owners will defend Tesla’s lack of quality, but I do have expectations and standard if I am going to drop $100K on a car.
I have a GV60 on order. I looked and drove both the GV60 and the Tesla Model Y. I found the Model Y very confusing with everything on a touch screen - I prefer to have the physical buttons. The interior and the trim in the GV60 is much, much better than the plastic in the Tesla. I have been driving a Nissan Leaf for the last 3 years and have found that to be all I needed in terms of range and power but obviously both the Model Y and the GV60 are a step up. Looking forward to taking delivery of the GV60.
I have now had the Genesis GV60 for more than a month and it is an amazing car. The design and build quality are first class, fitting of a "luxury" car. I did a road trip a earlier this month and really enjoyed the driving experience. I was able to charge at various public chargers, including Tesla chargers. The advantage Tesla did have was the more reliable charger network (although it is slower than some other chargers which will go up to 350 kwh). Now that the Tesla network is opening up to non Tesla, it does put all EVs on a level playing field.
I drive a 2015 Leaf. The range is killing me. 75 miles on full charge is a problem. Lucky I only drive to work and home M-F. Other than range, my Leaf is heavenly to drive. I use my wife's Acura RDX on the weekend.
We have the GV60 Performance & love it, no issues with the range because it's used for around town daily, I installed a Juice Box 32 charger & charge at 26 amps on the electric company super low rate on about 0.03 cents kwh , this car is fast & handles and rides good, we like having some buttons for the most used settings, I think the key fob is too large for my pocket so I use face recognition & finger print reader & it works everything or use your cell phone for car access. A lot of thought went into this car , I would also like wireless car play although it can be added later by OTA update
I’m a car nut from Detroit and really interested in EVs. Was excited when the ModelY was announced, figured this would be my first EV. I rented one from Hertz for a road trip, it had 12k miles. SO MANY rattles and squeaks. The ride was HORRIBLE for a car w/12k miles on it. The interior was so uninteresting. Hated that I had to look at the one big screen to do everything (especially the way it kept taking my eyes off the road). I am a software designer by trade and the software in the car felt very dated to me (the UI you get now is basically the same that it was in 2012, with the menus rearranged, slightly different styling & colors, and some added features. Way overdue for a ground-up rethink.) I kept telling myself how great the charging network was, and how great the battery & range was, that the giga casting had cut down on the number of parts, that 4680s were coming, that FSD was coming. But I couldn’t get past the fact that I really didn’t like being in the car, couldn’t wait to get out after that 1500 mile trip. My wife sat in it when I got back and she asked, not jokingly, “Is this a prototype? Maybe it’s not finished. Maybe they left some things out for Hertz?” Not so, unfortunately. I was pretty down, thinking I wasn’t going to be getting an EV, at least not yet. Then the Ioniq 5 came out and we took a look. Nearly everything that annoyed me about the ModelY was much better in this car. Ended up buying one. In its favor, Tesla has the charging network, slightly more range, a touch more cargo & frunk space. The safety ratings are a wash. Same for the warrantees. That’s it - everything else is better about the Ioniq 5. I liked the Ioniq 5 so much, but I wanted more luxury, so - before owning it even a year - I bought the GV60 performance. Holy cow do I love it! It’s way more luxurious, every bit as quick as the ModelY performance, WAY better build quality and ride. It does have a lot of buttons, but I like them. Specifically, here are the things the GV60 has that I wish were present (or better) in the ModelY: Much better build quality Much more luxurious feel Variety of colors Quiet, smooth ride Instrument cluster and dash w/modern UI Carplay Adjustable dampers by drive mode Heads up display Auto restart of driver assist (need to double strike in the Tesla when you change lanes) Selectable / granular control of regen (iPedal definitely does bring the car all the way to a stop, not sure what he was talking about) Vehicle-2-load Here are the things about the Tesla that I wish were true about the GV60: Charging network & experience (but this is coming soon, thanks Elon!) Longer range See how much longer the first list is than the second? Am I missing something? I recently rented a ModelY for another road trip, just to compare them again. Same story - couldn’t wait to get out of it. Different car - same rattles, squeaks, horrible ride. No carplay. Double-strike auto pilot everytime I changed lanes. Yuck. Recently, somebody in a model 3 stopped me to look at my car. He had the exact same gripes as me. We like EVs, and we’re going to buy more in the future. Can’t Elon do something about these issues? To be fair: I am grateful to Elon Musk for shaking up the automotive world and making EVs possible. Ironically, I think he needs to keep “shaking” to improve the interior of his cars, and really do something about the build quality issues. I will definitely come back and consider a Tesla once he does. Footnote: I can’t wait to check out the Cybertruck!
Three things that I wish my Tesla had: 1. HUD (not an instrument cluster, but a refection off the windscreen, I have installed an aftermarket option but it looks a bit naff). 2. Built in, automatic roof blind. 3. More insulation for tire and road noise.
The HUD looks cool but it's more of a gimmick. I really like the instrument cluster on my Model S. Wish the 3 & Y had that as well. That's the only thing holding off on buying a Y for my wife. I thought the roof would be an issue but during the Los Angeles summers, I really didn't have any problems. The car didn't get any hotter than the car I had that had a traditional sunroof that could close. Whatever UV film they are using seems to work. I agree on more insulation for road and wind noise.
@@ymcpa73 Have actually used a HUD? Once you have one you hardly ever look at the instrument cluster. Ironically, it's fancy looking instrument clusters that are gimmicks in practice compared to a HUD. The car I sold to get my Model 3 had a HUD so that's how I knew how good they are. Have retro fitted a HUD to all the cars in our family. Unfortunately I find the glass roof unbearable so have installed manual shades. They basically never come off in summer.
Great review. Previously owned a MODEL 3. Currently have a GV60 performance. The GV60 is noticeably quieter in at highway speeds vs Model 3. Also, I live in a cold climate. Physical buttons are a major bonus when wearing winter gear. Overall the GV60 is great, but I do wish the range was a bit better. Still very happy though.
I am a fan of the Tesla Model Y. I had the opportunity to ride GV60. GV60 has more convenient, luxurious, and functional futures than Model Y. They remind me of luxury vehicles. The Sunroof cover opens from the middle. Remind me of the stage curtain. I love it. Two 12-inch screens side by side are boring, just like all other vehicles. But what futures offer is advantageous. The ride is much happier, softer, and comfy than Model Y. I love that. And overall, quieter than Y. Not to mention, the Crystal ball gear shifter is vsiually lovely! Verdict: Tesla is Tesla. They are computer focus vehicles with superior driving range. GV60 is a traditional luxury vehicle. I like Model Y😄, but I loved GV60😘.
@@markrichter7504 it really isn't a big deal. I'd much rather have an awesome car the other 355 days of the year and deal with charging the 10 days I need to for road trips then vice versa... Where the car isn't as comfy, nice, or luxury based, but man, those 10 days, really make it worth it.
@@Ferengi23 do you own a Tesla? I do, it's a fantastic car. In my opinion it blows away anything from Hyundai Kia or the rest. It's made in America by American workers. It's more advanced than anything out there in my opinion.
I bought mine BECAUSE of the superb interior finishes. Nice place to spend time. 2024 gv60 will have automatic lane change capabilites and an even zippier computer. Thanks for the review.😊
Went to the dealer here in Vegas to look at one. It’s really nice, I liked it. BUT holy smokes the dealer markup is insane! $10k+ and up over MSRP. No thank you. At this point Tesla will be getting my business when I am ready to order my Model Y.
@@Fitforacting At this point it doesn't matter. The IRS will issue guidance for the battery production in March. If you got delivery before that, you would get the full $7500. If the IRS rules the sourcing for the materials in Tesla's battery isn't enough to be US sourced, then they will get half the credit. Since you can't get delivery in March anymore, might as well wait to see what the IRS says and order then.
@@ymcpa73 I work for Tesla. People that order can sometimes get delivery the same day. It depends on who you ordered with and availability. Your right about the batteries. I know this. I just don’t understand why people wait to order to lose incentives, wait longer, and pay more when the prices keep going up
That is the downside you have to shop around and be willing to road trip to get a Hyundai for a good price. The dealers are out of their minds. I watched another RUclipsr from CA say he had to go to NY to find the car he wanted from a dealer that wasn't gouging people. That is just sad. He was very specific about the car options, colors etc so he wasn't willing to bend on that which made the experience even harder for sure. I am just not interested in a Tesla so I will just be patient, shop around and be willing to road trip if needed to get what I want when I am ready to make a purchase.
@@Fitforacting I know that they sometimes have existing inventory. I'm guessing it's from orders that were canceled. I bought a used Model S back in 2021 from Tesla. It still took over a month for them to finally deliver it to me. The only way I could possibly get it the same day is if I traveled to Lathrop, CA to pick it up myself.
Bought the matte dark grey performance over a year ago and still love it every time i get in. Never even thought about tesla; lots of reasons not to buy Tesla, only a couple of reasons not to buy the genesis.
Think of reversing as "one-pedal driving" with the brakes rather than the accelerator. That makes more sense to me since I always want to be creeping backward using brakes rather than be using the accelerator.
I love buttons!!! The lack of buttons and switchgear was one of (but not the only) reason I got rid of my model Y. I have a GV60 performance and your feelings about one pedal driving is true. It really is not that strong at low speeds. Oddly enough, it's not even as strong as it was on my ioniq 5.
I don't get people's fascination with buttons. I personally think the controls on my 2020 model S are perfect. I have all the controls I need on the wheel. I can control the volume, fan speed, cruise control, lights, and wipers. The only button I wouldn't mind having is the seat heater but I can also use voice commands for that. Everything else isn't used that often and putting them on the touchscreen is fine.
There are some really cool features on this car, and I kind of like the shape. I like having some buttons, and it's not alot compared to some cars I've had in the past. But the tax credit and the charging network give Tesla such an advantage over this car in the US.
Just saw today this car is now eligible for the. $7,500 car credit. I can't wait to get rid of my rough riding and speed noisy Modell 3 Tesla (3 yr lease) so I can get one of these this beauty!
The first person who correctly guesses how many times the word button or buttons was used..... But good review Ryan. I actually had this car on my short list but settled on a Tesla (that does not sound right).
Excellent review Ryan. My Model S got hit by a truck and I need less expensive replacement. Your thorough reviews are really fantastic at helping me decide. I've test driven many of the cars you've reviewed and so far the GV60 is my favorite.
Really like the interior and the quietness, however I would still choose Tesla for it’s charging network. Ryan your the best. Love your reviews and videos. Thanks.
@@cheesun124 They will open up 7500 chargers as part of the deal to get the government funds. Tesla has something like 18000 chargers. How much do you want to bet that they will just open up chargers in locations that are not heavily used? Eventually, Tesla might open up a lot more chargers because it will become a revenue stream. I just don't think it will happen very soon.
You not gonna charge at home? I personally dont care how many stations car brand has. My station is at home. And for the long trips - I would never put that milage on my car. Plane is the way to go far.
Really good review Ryan, it was well put together. The instrument cluster can also be customized, and looks really cool in sports mode. Of note, the Performance version should drive a bit better than the other models, as it has a camera scanning the road surface ahead to adjust to the road surface. I have a GV60 and note that my car will not start reversing automatically when put in reverse. I just tested it to make sure I was not crazy. Perhaps this is a regional thing, as I live in Australia, or perhaps it is because I have the performance model. In any case, I needed to accelerate before the car starts to move in reverse. The performance version also has napa leather seats, which may be better than the seats provided in the car tested. It also has a driver side massage seat which is nice too. The boost button is really fun, and using it when driving in eco mode gives such a kick. Had Tesla offered an instrument cluster and heads up display, I may have got the Model Y, but overall I very much enjoy driving the GV60 as the performance is amazing, and is very comfortable to drive.
A little more time spent with the car would have improved this review. There are deeper features and tweaks, such as the auto regen modes and instrument cluster gauge configuration, which make for an even better driving experience. (In my opinion, auto regen is much more refined than iPedal). Most of the features you discovered and described, have settings behind them that will allow you to disable/enable or tweak them. I’ve had mine since June 2022 and it is awesome!😊
I do like your rewievs. I do have a few comments for this. It does regen when breaking in adaptive mode, you should be able to see it in the cluster, since it regains power there. The buttons are not at problem after a week of use, and while I agree a few could be spared, most is really nice for safe and fast handling. The no buttons/low cost approach like in Tesla is not the best for quick interaction with primary things, and as minimum need a really good voice activation system. And that I yet have to see in a car. Lastly, again after some learining, the Ipedal is great for one pedal driving, and can make the car stop like the Tesla/Rivian. I own an Ioniq 5 in the highest trim level, and it has autochange lanes. I would be really surprised if that was not the case in the GV60, but since it´s so slow it doesn´t really matter that much. Keep up the good work :)
Great in depth review, thanks. A low range of only 248 miles with a 77Kwh battery tells me it is not very efficient. Tesla Model Y with same size battery gets 330 miles of range. But, a very nice city car for shorter trips.
I have a GV60 performance. The overall efficiency of my car is currently 17.6kw per 100 Km. This translates to 283 watts per mile (or so google tells me). I usually charge to 90%, and when I got into the car this morning, it said I had an estimated range of 409km (which seems fairly accurate). I do mostly highway driving, about 94km per day but I do drive in eco mode most of the time, and play with the boost button once or twice a day. The air conditioning when turned on uses a fair bit of power, from 6 to 10%, with electronics doing the same. So if the aircon was turned off, I would have about 30km extra range. I have never driven a tesla, but my BMW i3 has an efficiency of 13.7kw per 100km, which google tells me is 220watts per mile. I have charged to 100%, and turning off the aircon showed a range of about 468km (290miles). If I had a base model GV60, this would have been just over 500km in range, but It would seem the Tesla model Y would STILL have the theoretically longer range. I am not a light driver, which may explain why others get far more efficiency. I hope that helps better understand the GV60 range.
@@xiaowei1 I have a 2020 i3s Rex and I'm looking at the GV60 at lease end which is in a few months. As a former i3 owner, how do you like the GV60 vs the i3?
@@JohnHastie the i3 is a great little car (you already know this), but it simply cannot compare to the GV60. they are apples and oranges. The GV60 is so much more powerful - twice as quick off the mark. It far more luxurious, and of course has the longer range. The negatives are you will be used to a very tight turning circle, the GV60 is longer and wider (though still smaller than a Tesla model Y). I also find the seats much harder for some reason (very firm) in the GV60 but others have not noticed this. On the flip side, the ride is far superior to the i3, it is much more quiet in the cabin too. Actually, it is the quietest car I have owned. At the end of the day, when you hit that boost button and floor it.... you will know it was an upgrade no matter what. 🙂
@@JohnHastie No worries. If you would like to know something more specific about how they differ, do not hesitate to ask. We still have the i3, so it is easy for me to compare.
The reverse makes sense in that your foot should be on the brake pedal because of safety. If you accidentally push the accelerator too much in reverse with slack in your seat belt or no seat belt; you could accidentally end up pressing the pedal more as you accelerate.
There's definitely some advantages of the Genesis, but for me I'd choose the Model Y. 80 miles extra range, more reliable charging network, better software, and 5k cheaper are all too significant of differences for me.
Having owned a Telsa for a little while now I can definitely say I will never go back to an ICE car. IMO, Telsa is still the best EV for features, value for money and availability (at least in our market) but as other manufacturers catch up (and assuming Tesla don't address their model 3 and Y shortcomings) I can see myself switching to an alternative brand. But I have a feeling it will be a long time before these alternative brand EVs are available in large enough quantities and reasonable prices in our market.
Don't forget how easy is to charge your Tesla compared with other brands....the whole supercharge ecosystem is so far the best out there, Tesla is thousand of miles away from legacy automakers.... controlling EV manufacturing to the while charging infrastructure is key.
@@kaimanson3174 Agree but this is only really the situation in the US, other countries don't have that great a super charger network yet. Also, I have only ever charged my Tesla at home, which is one of things I love about EVs. I would like to take it on a road trip but the course chip road surfaces that cover the country roads in my location would make it too noisy. So I use our older five series BMW for those trips (great sound deadening and without low profile tyres!)
Good review, thank you. Regarding one pedal driving, in my 2023 Genesis Electrified G80, when coming to a stop, holding the left paddle will bring the car to a full stop using regenerative braking.
I've owned 5 hyundai vehicles all limited specs. They give the most bang for your dollar !!! Palisade as my favorite !!!! Hud was awesome !!! Disappointed with rear seats not being electric fold. Especially on a genesis. Hopefully they will make other hyundai / genesis ev that are larger with full luxury features.
Great review. The Genesis, much like the Ioniq 5, may turn off iPedal, but in all modes, when you use the brakes, it mixes actually brakes with regen and you end up getting more regeneration. So the fact that iPedal is disengaged on highways with cruise control doesn’t impact the range in any way.
@@newchannel1220 no wonder since CATL🇨🇳has 1/3 (34%) of the world market, no . 2 LG🇰🇷with 14 % has majorquality issues. BYD🇨🇳 12%, Panasonic🇯🇵 10% busy with Tesla, SK Innovation🇰🇷7%. Do you think there is many ev manufacturers who has its battery material and battery cells manufacturing independent from china 🇨🇳 in 2023?
The auto lane change is a feature of HDA2 which was reduced to HDA1 in more recent releases due to chip shortages. It may be that it’s re-introduced in subsequent deliveries. My UK RWD Premium version bought June 2022 has HDA2 auto lane change.
Looks cool to me..... but my main thing is the range and public charging. My wife's BMW has had to be towed before because she stopped at 4 different broken charge stations and ran out of juice. How's the audio system sound?
As for buttons, I love the Tesla minimalism but I do wish they would add an optional button for turning the headlights on when I need them during daytime because Auto Lights will not do that. It's not much to flick the left stalk and tap the ON button that comes up but I do wish I could put it in the dock like the steering wheel heater button. Great rundown of the GV60 Ryan, thanks.
Thanks for the thorough review! But please help people correct the misperception that (in cars other than Teslas) that the pedal you happen to use has ANYTHING to do with regeneration! In most electrified cars, the computer sees your signal to 'slow down' and seamlessly decides what mix of regen and friction brakes to use. It's maddening to hear so many people conflate regen with one-pedal driving!
The Tesla driver messing with a screen while driving down the road just makes so much sense... Vs reach over and adjusting a simple knob within reach for quick access to the most common basic functions and not even having to look away from the road or driving tasks.... And Tesla drivers say that is "confusing". Oh boy, the Koolaid is strong...
50 year old , driven a number of brands of ice vehicles(no enthusiast). Test drove model y lrawd, ioniq 5rwd, ev6 rwd, id4 and gv60 std, on a same day… picked up ev60 based on comfort /quality of interior, exterior design, buttons(!), hwy safety and decent range. After a month of ownership and got back to model y(a friend of mine who agreed to swap his model y for a week), two questions in mind: 1. Why people buy ice over ev?(except commercial fleet trucks) 2. Why people pick tesla y over gv60…. Maybe internet is such powerful influence……
I have sat in and inspected this car but not driven it. Deal breaker for me is the lack of storage space vs. a model Y. For me that makes it a second car. One more thing, it's a button apocalypse in that cabin!
Ridiculous dealership markups like 5-10k above MSRPs for all these EVs like the Mach-E, GV60, Ioniq 6, Lightning, e-Tron, etc.. will be their downfall. Nobody want to feel being rip-offs ..
Vehicle to load seems like a fairly worthless feature to me. Why, where, and when is someone going to use ti? I think it is way too much trouble to be practical.
For me the luxury from EV is the tech that comes with Tesla. All the little convenient tech features from Tesla serve to me as luxury (hard to get back to other cars with less tech even if seat or interior feels better)
I've been driving our MYLR in Santa Fe recently and the Nav system definitely is out of date here. Santa Fe has a lot of narrow one-way roads, alleys and dirt roads around the periphery of the town center and FSD does a great job in most cases but still gets confused if there are no road markings. Many paved roads have painted arrows indicating which lane you should be in to go straight or make a turn but the paint is scrubbed almost all off the road in many cases so the car has to rely on map data which I think is where it is not up to date. I do see a number of Teslas driving in town so maybe this will improve. There should be a way for a Tesla driver to tell Tesla about inaccurate or missing map data and there may be but I don't know what it is. All in all the Tesla maps are very good and the NN real-time situational awareness takes over when needed, it seems. Cheers and drive safely.
Hi Ryan, Thanks for the great review! Been waiting for the New Fisker Ocean but really considering going with the Genesis GV60. My partner has the EV6 and we both like it. Really do like the interior and the unique Globe and the face and fingerprint recognition. Just something you don't see yet on other EV's. Thanks again for the Great review! 🙂
Well done on capturing the HUD on video so well. I got the RWD Premium version in the UK last Summer- the RWD version has a WLTP range of 321 miles. The Comfort Pack - upgrades the headlining to suede and the seats to Nappa Leather. I’ve been very happy with it - I couldn’t get round the minimalist interior of the Model Y- rear passengers having to ask front passengers for heated seats to be switched on, glove box operation through the screen or voice command- just a step too far. And tech features like HUD, proper blind spot notification and 360 cameras - seem a big miss. As does the lack of - panoramic sunroof blind. I guess people pay their money and make their choice.
Is that a rhetorical question? I agree the Model Y does offer great performance even in the RWD. But to answer your question 0 -62mph is 7.8 seconds. My Mazda rx-8 did that in 6.4 seconds. It feels punchy ( it’s the same torque as Nissan 350Z V6 but available from 0 rpm) and is ample for motorway merging and overtaking.
I drive a 2022 Model Y Austin build and so far I don't have the issues you described. Although I am still getting used to autopilot I will say there are some times in it, it will roll up on a vehicle and seemingly won't stop. It could just me being overly cautious. I still have ultrasonic sensors and they're still working. I had a GV60 pull up to me at a stop light. Watching it here on video doesn't do it justice. It is a very nice looking EV and definitely competes with the Model Y on the road. It has a great road presence. I still don't think it can beat Tesla's simplicity and the autopilot and TACC on a Tesla is far simpler to use and get out of. I'm pretty much done with buttons in the car. In the Tesla I have a few of my on screen controls up front and anything else I want to use I just use the voice control. I also have a 2013 Kia Optima so I familiar to a degree with the Hyundai/Kia ecosystem and I can tell you there are a few button in the Kia never used but spent plenty of time cleaning the dust out of them. This EV here is definitely one to get if one doesn't want a Tesla for whatever reasons.
Car seems nice. In the USA however because you have to deal with shifty dealers to buy anything that’s not a Tesla , that’s a detriment to every other option right now
As a Tesla owner, I was amazed at how many times you said “button” in this review?! I like the simplistic look and features of all in one, on screen for 99% of the car features. I even get a bit annoyed when flip back and drive my Toyota 4Runner. Buttons are ugly and abundant. IMO.
That's a good looking car. The NVH is awesome; I wish my Tesla was that quiet. The interior surfaces look nice. Birdseye view and V2L are great; the lack of those in Teslas is a major fail imho. The orb is stupid, and the keyfob is gargantuan. Face recognition/fingerprint is very cool, and makes up for the keyfob, as long as you don't need a valet I guess. It's a little too small, and the range is low for 2023. Wish I could get the best features of this and the model y in one car.
Thanks Ryan. Agreeing with you about the limited range. With that much battery, less than 250 miles is pretty poor, I would have expected at least 300 miles, and 375 would be what could be called good economy. I see 250+ miles from a 52kWh battery, even in a British Winter, whilst driving a slightly smaller car..
Driving around here in Houston, there are plenty of concrete/cement trucks that drop gravel all over. I had 3 broken windshields on one year, at a cost of about $1200 each. This is on an Acura TLX with a regular windshield that has a camera and lane sensor. Sensors must be re-calibrated after a windshield is installed. How much would it be to replace the Tesla's glass panel due to rock chips/cracks? Sometimes more glass is not better.
I test drove both and dont even feel like they are comparable. The Genesis is a luxury vehicle. The Tesla is the everyman ev. The only thing they have in common is that they are small suv's. I see so many videos comparing both to each other when they are not even in the same league. The Mercedez 350 EQV vs the Genesis GV 60 is the comparison video that needs to be made.
Should be mentioned there is a lot of natural voice commands available. Press the voice button and you can asked the car to open or close all the windows.
Maybe I missed it, but I was hoping you’d review the audio (music) system & quality of the GV60. One thing folks don’t mention enough about Tesla’s is how good their sound systems are. I like what I’ve learned about the GV60’s so far but haven’t heard much about the quality of their sound systems. I’d assume it’s pretty good given the market segment Genesis occupies, but, for instance, does it have a small subwoofer in it? How well is the midrange & treble? A good sound system helps in bumper-to-bumper traffic!
The GV 60 bang and olufsen sound system is really amazing I mean really 2 good. It’s way better than Model Y. Model Y sound system is just acceptable put it that way compare to bang and olufsen
I own GV-60. Can’t stop listening to Xirius in this car. The Bang and Olufsen sound system is awesome and you can tweek the sound just as you like. First time I used it was not impressed. And that was because not tuned. Once my tuning was done, this is the best sound you can get. Especially the quietness of this car is another world. Truly a mobile concert hall !
@Ryan The self driving for the Tesla is available by subscription, turning it on for a trip and off again when back. I am hopeful Tesla will eventually lower or include the FSD, so subscription is a better way to go in case that happens.
Disagree on your take of having the fingerprint or face recognition feature to turn on your car. There'll be a time that you might forget your phone, key or wallet on that day you'll hope the car turns on by recognizing your fingerprints and your face :)
Love my M3P but should of just got the long range! I like comfort and range over performance..but in 2021 the delivery for the long range took forever!
I purchased a GV60 and a Tesla MYLR at about the same time. The GV60 had some features that were missing on the MY and I fully expected to sell the MY and keep the GV based on this. Although it was obvious I much preferred the Y after only a couple months of owning both, I kept the GV for almost six months. The features I was absolutely positive would make the GV a keeper were either just weren’t up to my expectations of their functionality or, the many pain points of the GV made it comparable dread to drive, especially on road trips. Keep in mind, at the time, the GV60 was also considerably less expensive than the the MY after Fed tax credits which Tesla did not have at the time. As an engineer, the engineering on the Tesla is FAR superior to any of the EGMP cars, something the casual user is not likely to notice, but very important to me.
@@alexPsanz I own both. I am also an engineer. I tell my friends that the GV60 performance has quicker acceleration, nicer seats, smoother ride, and a more luxurious interior. The Model Y has absolutely everything else. GV60 - HUD, facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, massaging/heat/cool seats, pretty interior lighting, crystal ball shifter, buttons everywhere, very lame phone app and remote control features, surround view camera system, CCS chargeport, garage door remote built in, silent cabin ride Model Y - awesome software interface, OTA updates, better driver assist functionality and safety features, unbeatable charging network, incredible third party connectivity and data gathering, much better efficiency/range, all kinds of games/movie/music/streaming, superior sound system, voice functions, works with Alexa and Siri, programmable to fit your life/routine no matter where it's located, sentry mode, built in 4 direction dashcam, The Teslas are so full of technology that I have found it nearly impossible to describe the convenience of living with one as a 'work' car, and my neighbor has since verified this same problem when he purchased his Tesla. There are simply too many features, life hacks, and automations to describe.....and the cars get better every month with software updates. After 3 months with the GV60, I still have not received an OTA software update from Genesis. The way I see it right now...My 2.5 year old Model Y has nearly all the same features and tech that has since been added and upgraded for the new Model Y's. My wife's GV60 will be the same GV60 until it dies. I don't see the legacies performing as many free upgrades and software updates as Tesla.
@@alexPsanz Navigation software (where do I charge?) sucks, overall UI/UX is a disaster (panel in front of driver is really stupid), ADAS features an order of magnitude worse, quality of material, especially door cards, are poor. Storage space is MUCH smaller everywhere you look. Turn-in/rotation is worse. Not really capable of OTA updates, mostly just infotainment (I never got ONE software update). Voice commands much worse. 12v battery implementation is laughable, just one example of poor engineering. Although for me there were some big failures, it was mostly “death via a thousand cuts”. Not that the Y is perfect, far from it. I really miss 360 view, grab handles above the door, and headlights that come on with windshield wipers, just to name a few. Also, I am 75 and have very poor depth perception - a current MY without the USS sensors would not work for me. I highly suggest you wait until HW4 is available on the Y. Might learn more about that this Wednesday March 1.
Nice review. Not sure if you didn’t mention ventilated seats because the version you tested didn’t have them, but that is something I wish my model Y had.
🤣. Let's count how many times you have to say buttons. Buttons buttons buttons and more buttons. Most of those pointless buttons can be converted to audio commands. Reduces weight and cost to build, just saying. Great review honestly. Very honest and simple. Not a bad vehicle, however it has room to improve as you indicated. 👍
Looks better inside and out than the Model Y in my opinion. I like the fact that it has ventilated seats as well. Waiting on the 2025 Tesla Model Y hoping for ventilated seats there finally. Ready tomake the EV move!
Ryan, great review & I agree & welcome the nicer interior than American expect but too many buttons, switches etc to get dirty, break & need sensor replacement in my opinion. It would be great to know how reliable it will end up being & cost of ownership. Teslas have become very low maintenance in my opinion, at least with mine. How much to register & insure would be great to know since Teslas are pricey to insure.
What hurts this car is the Range. EV6 and ionic 5 can go 300+ and they care cheaper by almost $20k in some instances and offer 95% of the same features. I think the winner of the 3 is Kia and EV6, but what hampers its sales are Dealer Mark ups and availability. Hyundai is a little more Strict with Dealer Pricing and have more 5's to offer. My local dealer has 5 on the lot at any given time. Local Kia Dealer gets 3 to 4 a months and they usually are presold.
I’m good with Tesla interior with exception of the piece of wood dashboard in my new Model Y. I’d rather it be plain black. I love the simplicity, no knobs and no switches. Everything is controlled by the touch screen displays other than the 2 rolling switches on the steering wheel. It’s refreshing to see it different from the traditional legacy ICE interior. To me, the most important while driving is speed and Tesla cars rapidly respond when I stepped on the accelerator. Secondly, the supercharging network is second to none. I can get my Tesla charged up faster than driving my ICE vehicles through Costco Gas Stations. Thirdly, most if not all recalls are over the air software updates. Since having Model 3 and Model Y, I have ditched using my ICE now. Mostly just started it up once a week and drove around the block to make sure that they are still functional. It would be nice if Tesla put in massage seats in the future.
It should be noted when the GV60 RWD (optioned up to spec of the Model Y) was released in June 2022 in the UK it was a very similar price to the Tesla model Y but successive price reductions of the Model Y in the UK make it a very attractive proposition ( charging network aside) the level of equipment which is standard puts other EV manufacturers to shame.
Ryan, I just read a comment below about a 10k dealer markup. I thought only Ford dealers were into this. It would be great to review (or even obtained viewer feedback) on companies and dealers who are into this “dealer markup” business.
Many dealerships do this. It has nothing to do with the Manufacturers. The dealers control the pricing and there is nothing the manufacturer can do about it. That's why it's called manufacturer SUGGESTED retail price.
Elon musk says the best part is no part. This car has many parts that shouldn’t be in there at all. It has to paddle shifters to change the settings on your region braking which virtually never reset once you said it has a separate button with for the touch switch is to adjust the steering wheel position which you’ll do once, I can’t begin to understand the rotating knob it’s cute but what is the actual point this is everything that’s wrong with modern BEV. Instead of starting with a clean sheet, they tried to reuse the existing designs and they get some thing that’s not good at anything.
I like the quality and consistency of your videos! There's an intro, consistent quality in all senses, factual, what's not to love!! Big fan, keep up the good work!
Excellent review. Definitely worth looking at this car if you’re interested in a Tesla. I would still hesitate buying this, if planning to travel long distances due to fear, charging infrastructure trouble. Lotsa love from Toronto!
The whole regen gripe is irrelevant. You do realize that the E-GMP EVs Max Regen is 360kW, compared to the measly 85kW on Teslas right? Tesla has nothing on the Genesis GV60 for when it comes to putting battery back into the cells. That's just a fact.
I think both ioniq 5 review you missed couple of important items. I think your content is great but getting review out to these many subscribers but with incorrect information. 1. You talked about regen pedal but you missed auto regen mode which is great as it adjusts regen based on car distance in front of you, slope, turns and if vehicle in front is braking. It also will let you coast and in turns increase range. This is true for ioniq 5, EV 6 and GV60 2. When you using driving assist feature on highway or auto cruise control, car may not show regen mode or ipedal because auto cruise control is managing regen (similar to auto). You are regenerating on highways too but you just don't see a level under auto cruise turned on as it is in auto regen mode. You can see regeneration happening in energy bar or dial where you can see regen levels going up when cruise control is slowing down car.
I was about to mention the same thing. Nice to see someone keeping it honest; the bias in this video was gross and unwarranted.
Lucky you! I want one...
Model Y smokes this car breh.
You will LOVE it. Cheers
Maybe they left some things out for Hertz?”
Not so, unfortunately.
Specifically, here are the things the GV60 has that I wish were present (or better) in the ModelY:
Much better build quality
Much more luxurious feel
Variety of colors
Quiet, smooth ride
Instrument cluster and dash w/modern UI
Carplay
Adjustable dampers by drive mode
Heads up display
Auto restart of driver assist (need to double strike in the Tesla when you change lanes)
Selectable / granular control of regen (iPedal definitely does bring the car all the way to a stop, not sure what he was talking about)
Vehicle-2-load
Here are the things about the Tesla that I wish were true about the GV60:
Charging network & experience (but this is coming soon, thanks Elon!)
Longer range
See how much longer the first list is than the second?
I really appreciate your comments. The pros/cons analysis is very helpful.
👏 👏 👏
Three things that I wish my Tesla had:
Until you need to charge during a road trip. The supercharger network is superior to anything else.
@@markrichter7504 lol, if the first thing that comes to mind for a Tesla is the charging network, the car itself doesnt seem to be that great.
I guess that's why there's choices for everyone lol. I'm all for choices.
@@Ferengi23 do you own a Tesla? I do, it's a fantastic car. In my opinion it blows away anything from Hyundai Kia or the rest. It's made in America by American workers. It's more advanced than anything out there in my opinion.
I've had the GV60 for about a year and still love it. The ride, the quickness and handling, the luxury are great.
I bought mine BECAUSE of the superb interior finishes. Nice place to spend time. 2024 gv60 will have automatic lane change capabilites and an even zippier computer. Thanks for the review.😊
I have the G60 for about a month and i absolutely love it.
Me too. Fun reading all the musk disciples comments, many of which are just plain wrong.
Went to the dealer here in Vegas to look at one. It’s really nice, I liked it. BUT holy smokes the dealer markup is insane! $10k+ and up over MSRP. No thank you. At this point Tesla will be getting my business when I am ready to order my Model Y.
What are you waiting for to order your Y? The price will keep going. Delivery times are April to June now and incentives will get limited 😮
@@hughn1 I've seen the car a few times, so I hope you enjoy it.
Teslas don't have the side handles inside because there are side curtain air bags there.
The first person who correctly guesses how many times the word button or buttons was used..... But good review Ryan. I actually had this car on my short list but settled on a Tesla (that does not sound right).
Tesla 3 and Y should have a HUD. It would be so easy to implement and won't ruin the minimalistic aesthetic.
Thanks.
well, they are opening the network to everyone now, right?
@@cheesun124 selective stations for now to start but eventually will open all stations for all
@@cheesun124 They will open up 7500 chargers as part of the deal to get the government funds.
I have the GV60 Performance over here in Australia. I think the reverse rolling or not rolling depends on whether the "Auto Hold" is engaged.
@@doingstuffandthingss Actually, from memory, this sounds about right.
@@xiaowei1 thanks for the feedback on that, I appreciate it.
@@JohnHastie No worries. If you would like to know something more specific about how they differ, do not hesitate to ask. We still have the i3, so it is easy for me to compare.
I hope they’d give the option to change the feedback sound on the touchscreen. That particular beep instantly drives me bonkers. Great review, Ryan.

I’m interested, but would prefer something with more buttons.
I literally lol'd at that.
Hyundai KIA exclusively use chinese batteries which degrade 60%- 70% within 5 year( but it does not show on console hence no warranty). 😉
@@newchannel1220 no wonder since CATL🇨🇳has 1/3 (34%) of the world market, no
LG is monopolying battery outside China.
CATL is low tech yet and has more majorquality issues but not revealed.
I have never waited in line or seen a broken Tesla charger. Tesla network is a decade ahead.
Just turn on the wipers and they'll activate for a short period.
If frequent long road trips or the tax credit are essential for you, the Model Y is better. For actual driving, the GV60 is better. I've driven both.
If Tesla didn't exist, I probably would have bought this car. Thank you for this review. You answered several of my questions about the GV60.
Great review as always. Most people who are not Tesla conditioned prefer buttons over a screen. They're really not complicated.
After a month of ownership and got back to model y(a friend of mine who agreed to swap his model y for a week), two questions in mind:
1. Why people buy ice over ev?(except commercial fleet trucks)
2. Why people pick tesla y over gv60….
Maybe internet is such powerful influence……
Interesting they have two cutouts in the lower rear facia mimicking dual exhaust.
Nobody want to feel being rip-offs ..
the genesis badge makes me think of chrysler. makes me ask why did they choose to make the badge so similar? the exterior style is a little busy
Thx for the review. As a Tesla shareholder I need to know the 'competition'. This was all I needed.
How is the acceleration and performance on the RWD version?
IMO.
Sorry, this interior blows away Tesla
That's a good looking car. The NVH is awesome; I wish my Tesla was that quiet. The interior surfaces look nice. Birdseye view and V2L are great; the lack of those in Teslas is a major fail imho. The orb is stupid, and the keyfob is gargantuan. Face recognition/fingerprint is very cool, and makes up for the keyfob, as long as you don't need a valet I guess. It's a little too small, and the range is low for 2023. Wish I could get the best features of this and the model y in one car.
That orb is hilarious 😂😂
Ryan, you didn't review the sound system. How does it compare to the Model Y sound system?
I always wondered if the brake lights go on when regen breaking is engaged? It really should.
They do! Hahaha the car is braking, so they turn on.
Great car, just not worth price to me.
Fun video!
New Model Y windshield is about $1137.85 with calibration according to average costs reported to inside EVs.
Tesla self calibrates now. My windshield on my 2019 Model 3 was 1,138.
Great product. I would request sunroof which opens. 3 spoke steering wheel, rear wiper. No face fingerproof
Highway Drive Assist (HDA) and automated cruise control DO use regen braking
Appreciate your info. Thank you!
If you can, definitely drive the GV60 Performance. It's faster than the MYP and has a better top end.
Disagree on your take of having the fingerprint or face recognition feature to turn on your car. There'll be a time that you might forget your phone, key or wallet on that day you'll hope the car turns on by recognizing your fingerprints and your face :)
You’ll turn around and recover your phone, no one ever leaves anywhere without it:p
If your license is in your wallet, you need to go and get it before your drive.
If you’re phone is the key you can’t leave and forget it at home lol
The GV60 really needs the biometric sensors because the keyfob is the size of a bowling ball.
@@incognitotorpedo42 🤣
Love my M3P but should of just got the long range! I like comfort and range over performance..but in 2021 the delivery for the long range took forever!
I chose the Model Y just for camping and towing. I camped during a blizzard and have a video of it on my channel.
Seems complicated? Oh, do they offer a class on its operation?
Can you name the key differences? I order a model y but I would have wanted a gv60 or electrified gv70 if the price was similar or every in stock.
@@alexPsanz I own both. I am also an engineer. I tell my friends that the GV60 performance has quicker acceleration, nicer seats, smoother ride, and a more luxurious interior. The Model Y has absolutely everything else.
GV60 - HUD, facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, massaging/heat/cool seats, pretty interior lighting, crystal ball shifter, buttons everywhere, very lame phone app and remote control features, surround view camera system, CCS chargeport, garage door remote built in, silent cabin ride
Model Y - awesome software interface, OTA updates, better driver assist functionality and safety features, unbeatable charging network, incredible third party connectivity and data gathering, much better efficiency/range, all kinds of games/movie/music/streaming, superior sound system, voice functions, works with Alexa and Siri, programmable to fit your life/routine no matter where it's located, sentry mode, built in 4 direction dashcam,
The Teslas are so full of technology that I have found it nearly impossible to describe the convenience of living with one as a 'work' car, and my neighbor has since verified this same problem when he purchased his Tesla.
His version did have it. You can see the button for it when he shows the controls on the center console during the interior review.
Nice review. Great job with the new production edit with the Futoroma reference 😂.
I wish GV60 had the drivetrain and battery management of the Tesla Model Y. I wish Model Y had the build quality and creature comforts of the GV60
GV60 definitely does do 1 pedal driving. I do tend to have Auto Hold engaged so don’t know if that affected your experience.
Add 100 miles to the range and I'll buy one tomorrow. 248 just won't work in Phoenix, AZ in the middle of summer with max a/c all day every day.
Buttons buttons BUTTONS. Everyone gets buttons!
Do you know what was that black car charging next to yours when you showed yours charging at the 25:00 minute mark of this video ?
i love the gv60 but i ended up getting EV6 which is also an amazing car. Can't go wrong between the 3 different flavors of e-gmp cars.
Fair review, good job. Biggest drawback is the charging and range.
Good looking but I'd take the Model Y all day, every day. Basically, ISS (It's the Superchargers Stupid)
Take a shot every time he says “Buttons”.
Holy smokes, what was Hyundai thinking?
Thanks for the review! Glad to see you are reviewing other cars. Can you review the BMW i4 M50 (or other EVs in their lineup)?
Elon musk says the best part is no part. This car has many parts that shouldn’t be in there at all. It has to paddle shifters to change the settings on your region braking which virtually never reset once you said it has a separate button with for the touch switch is to adjust the steering wheel position which you’ll do once, I can’t begin to understand the rotating knob it’s cute but what is the actual point this is everything that’s wrong with modern BEV. Instead of starting with a clean sheet, they tried to reuse the existing designs and they get some thing that’s not good at anything.
Thanks. Great review and I like the intelligent comments. Very helpful.
Ryan, you are so good! Keep up the good work.
I like the quality and consistency of your videos! There's an intro, consistent quality in all senses, factual, what's not to love!! Big fan, keep up the good work!
Its build quality looks great.
Excellent review. Definitely worth looking at this car if you’re interested in a Tesla. I would still hesitate buying this, if planning to travel long distances due to fear, charging infrastructure trouble. Lotsa love from Toronto!
Great review. You answered a lot of questions
The ventilated seats are very nice.
Shifter orb can be rotated manually if something goes wrong.
This is true for ioniq 5, EV 6 and GV60
