- Having reached ALPHA status for Serious Sam, Croteam tries to find a publisher. Unfortunately, all of whom Croteam reached out to were uninterested in their game. This is the game they pitched, which would eventually transition into 2001's hit PC game; Serious Sam: The First Encounter.

And also some obvious connections to reusing their ideas for the Elementals:
In the First Encounter you have to collect elemental orbs to place in the Alley of the Sphinxes in order to progress into Karnak. And what spawns after placing the orbs? A giant lava golem boss. Perhaps these orbs were going to be a collectable in the Alpha for the bosses but never got into that build? It's something to speculate.
Second Encounter is also a very obvious one with the end of the Mayan chapter ending in Kukulkan's boss fight. Direct connection to the wind elemental boss in Green Planet along with a similar bowl-shaped arena.
The Last Hope's final boss from the last planet Arcadia Minor ends in a giant earth elemental. It's a wonder then if Sam 4 will have a giant water/ice elemental so that the squad can be completed.
Revolution's Bright Island campaign heavily focuses on this elemental idea, making their own interpretations of the other elementals (excluding ice) aside from the lava which is unchanged. And they even made a new 6th one for the final fight (in place what should have been a dragonman). Also not to mention Bright Island takes 2 of the levels from the alpha and repurposed them as secret levels with their own added flair and context.
I will take you suppositions into account for when I make my alpha finished mod
too bad there were no elementals in ss4 but in sibierian mayhem there is a oil elemental secret in the third level Siberiade
Ah yes Bright Island...that needed some reworking. 😆
I *love* seeing old unpolished games. Especially Serious Sam ones. It's just so.....cool to see what the games started out as.
So from what I've seen, serious sam is a combination of the fast paced gore heavy gameplay of doom with the humor and craziness of Duke nukem, I love it!
I am still salty by the fact the the Alpha version got the Cocking of the shotgun right where the finished product doesn't.
Hell, even its HD version still haven't fixed it..and it sure sound nitpicky but its quite distracting and can't unsee.
1:00 that concept art is excellent.
"Zdzichu" is a Polish name and it's pronounced "z - gee - hoo".
I'd be interested in someone talking about the seriously warped deathmatch mod for second encounter as practically no one even knows it exists it seems
There were so many more things in the Alpha compared to the final game that is TFE. Even though I'm super interested how they would have further optimized this alpha, I think the cuts were a very good move, considering how the final game ended up.
THE FUCKING PUMP MOVES IN THE ALPHA
Around the same time this build leaked there was a more complete version with the cannon and enemies in the later levels, But unlike this one it wasn't spread around. Not unless you know somebody who has it.
Proof?
@@FrameRater A former ally whom worked on Serious Sam origins had it, along with the entire croteam repository. Hell, he even streamed it in a discord call. After a incident involving assets that we didn't want leaked we ended up booting him and putting him in "the frame".
Haven't watched the video, but my best guess is that the best "missing 6 planets" experience you can get nowadays is through the bright island campaign in serious sam revolution.
7:13 you should rank the levels of tfe and maybe other ss games
Not a bad idea.
I would love a Third Encounter game. Some mods have the feeling of a new campaign, like Abandoned Empire.
I mean, Serious Sam 2 clearly continued the ideas from the alpha, seeing as how it had a lava planet (Kleer), ice planet (the annoying snowy place), futuristic planet (Sirius), Grassy planet, the list goes on. It makes me wonder why FrameRater didn't put more emphasis on how SS2 is essentially the pinnacle of the ideas from the alpha.
Oh, I didn't expect to see my map mentioned here. Shame that Abandoned Empire is a pile of shit.
A very good video. Especially if you're eating spaghetti while watching.
Well then today is a good day.
The Serious Sam Alpha feels so much like the Half-Life alpha.
The lighting and lack-thereof in some parts.
And the colour choices.
Really well done video. Earned my sub
It would be awsome if they went back to the Within The Flesh concept.
POGGGGG SERIOUS SAM UPLOAD
10:28 I was actually more thinking of Kukulkán from The Second Encounter.
A lot of people are quick to point that out but I don't think it should count. Not only is it technically the same game so it isn't really "re-used", but it's only one occurrence of the game. In Serious Sam 3 it's a recurring enemy.
7:30 - Welp, guess I'm gonna do that Lake and Alley map myself.
Did you do it?
dynamic skybox confirmed for SS4!
I really need to try out serious Sam
It's a great series!
In 2:26 the floating gnaar when he got shot, his legs and armas appeared wtf
i really like the unpoloshed very very early models and grapichs of serious sam very interesting to say the least since i freaking love serious sam
God damn ss tfe looks gorgeous for 2001.
I'm not surprised that publishers weren't breaking down their doors to publish the game as a 'boomer' shooter like Serious Sam really wasn't in fashion at the time. 😥
I love serious sam 2017 vr, the duke nukem mod is awesome
Wow where did you get those new screenshots of in the flesh?
Serious Sam: Known for the ridiculous splash damage, infinite ammo akimbo revolvers, and a sniper rifle that when zoomed does 3X more damage than any explosive.
Wait, is the soundtrack in the source port the original beta soundtrack? I got so interested that I started playing it and there is a track which is "officially" remade and used in Serious Sam 3. I wonder if more stuff was used as well
Also, the original original alpha release didn't have any music at all, the other alpha release that followed was made by someone else that put in music from ss xbox and ss3 bfe.
hey I'm playing Serious Sam Alpha remake 1.5 for the first time thanks to your video, I'm a huge serious sam fan and I can't believe I didn't even know about this.
However some levels seem to be missing, namely the king valley chapter, king valley and it's exit are present, but the tombs are missing. Is it a bug on my end? Or the footage you are showing is from the real alpha and not zdzichu's remake? They don't even appear in the custom map list.
Yeah some levels are missing in the remake.
I have both the original and the remake so I plan to play the levels from original until there are no enemies and then switch to the remake and play the last levels with added enemies. But in the end I still prefer the original alpha.
P.S. I don't know if the original has difficulty option(maybe it's hidden somewhere in the game files) but it's really fricking hard. When I was fighting the water boss it killed me like in one or two shots and it happened so fast that I couldn't even avoid it.
What do you think about Brigth Island?
Can you please give a link to that rare screenshot at 0:45
Hi Framerater, I noticed you've made the co-op video you did with Decino private. I 've been wanting to rewatch some parts. Is there any chance you'll change the videos status to at least "unlisted"?
Thanks!
why is this unlisted, I luckily stumbled upon this
Will be public on Sept 1st.
@@FrameRater can you do trailer analyzing for serious sam 4 ?
I've already done that, thrice
@@FrameRater There are many new gameplay footages that you didn't went over, and discord discussions. Just wanted to hear your opinion on more :D
@@markoj.98 I don't think there's much left to be said really. It's all fairly straight forward.
I seriously like all the maps
Hi dondlo
@@SH_DIS_LNHi (dont really remember you) bro
@@Dondlo46 ik that's the fun part
This doesn’t show up under your videos for me. I had to look into the Serious Sam playlist to find it. Was this intended or is RUclips just screwing with you?
it was unlisted until today
Corn Boi I see. Thanks!
samuel is serious
Wow,😊Cool 👍
Can you download In The Flesh anywhere ?
I love English, his name is pronounced like in Japanese: "Zedichu". Not like Zdihu or Jeehu. Ahh... Polsko i love u.
So this probably isn't the place to ask, but... what in blazes is up with the sluggish mouse aim in this game? I've fiddled with console commands I found on Steam forums to try and fix it, but it only seems to make it too sensitive. EDIT: On a whim, decided to switch from OpenGL to Direct3D and somehow it fixed it, though I have no idea why.
What are the cheat codes for the alpha??
7:50 and hot chix
Was a third encounter ever officially announced?
Sadly but no. There is SS2 though which I assume is supposed to be The 3rd Encounter.
Serious sam on the n64
Well I love Serious Sam and I also like Serious Sam 2.
So there!! Yah boo to you!!
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrpppp!!!!!!!!
yes
Sam Nukem
Is the GameCube library part 2 video ever coming out :(
hey this isn’t serious sam 3!
That snake-like enemy I saw looks quite similar to doom eternals whiplash
Can someone please explain to me why the kleers are almost impossible on Hard/Serious difficulty in SS:HD and SS:Fusion but are perfectly fine in the original? They jump too far and too fast! Is this a bug? Where they like this in the alpha?
Im not really sure why you were expecting balanced gameplay and finished areas in an alpha, a lot of your ciriticism comes down to the game being...... you know, an alpha
No expectation, it's merely a discussion addressing the highs and lows.
Great video FR!
Just uploaded my video about Serious Sam 4, why should you play it before VS after Serious Sam 3: ruclips.net/video/j5bjpwOpcos/видео.html

Ur pronunciation of zdzichu is terrible as a Polish man it hurts me it's lore like ( z dji h u)
love that belly dancer... i wish i had a girl like her..
Well back then they didnt had the Money.
Then Why still they using that engine even now?!
Just use Unreal.
it's improved by now, serious sam 4 will use that new improved game engine plus, why would they use other game engine instead their own game engine LOL. it's the same thing with DOOM 2016 Id tech 6 game engine.
@@White_Tiger93 Just saying it will be hard for them to sell dis game with dis Graphics.
@@farzin4947 well even NASA PC couldn't handle so much enemies if the game was made with unreal engine. That is the main reason(and lack of money of course) why Croteam created their own engine in the first place. It's not some fricking fortnite it's Serious Sam with hundreds of enemies to be rendered at once so the game has to be very well optimised.
@@farzin4947 because it's a n overrated flashy and horrendous to mod engine
