Man, I really hope my scripts don't keep getting longer. This channel is not nearly successful enough to survive a Max0r style upload schedule.
It's different than my usual fare, but I've wanted to talk about the Hotline Miami games for a while now. If for no other reason than the OST making it the easiest video I've ever made to find music for. And also the jank is real fun to talk about. The series has been discussed to death, but I think I brought something at least a little bit new to the table. And if not, I hope it's at least entertaining enough that you don't mind.

All Hotline miami reviews in a nutshell
Hm1 : good
Hm2 : good but i have skill issue
Some of these reviewers dont use the shift button and wonder why they dont see the enemy from far away
Hotline Miami 2 ia good
But i like the more "cramped" levels from 1
They are Fun to rampage trough with Just a knife (or any other fast melee weapon)
@@kyrazz128personally the gun rushing and dodging bullets gameplay is what made me have more hours in hm2 cuz its so damn addicting, cramped floors are too easy man
this! some of the gameplay looks like the person playing just doesn't even acknowladge the entirety of their screen and when they die by something they could've seen they complain about not expecting it
also "to play good you need to know the maps very well" damn what a criticism that is
@@straferthesluggo3096 "ehrm to play good you need to spend time getting good at the game..."
"you just can't convince me that this is a person" is a very clever recontextualization of a line previously in the video
i love these games so much, and every time i see hotline miami 2's ending i get tears in my eye
same
i liked both. hlm1 for its linearity, hlm2 for its, well, non-linearity. got all achievements too. i could say "booo yall got skill issue" but then there has to be a sweet spot like "easy to learn, hard to master". unfortunately the series is officially dead, but whenever i see a new vid on hotline miami, it just feels good to know that these two games from 2012 and 2015 are not forgotten. the community lives. and with it my personality
the vid is undeniably top-notch
Over the course of beating the game multiple times for footage, I eventually got to the point that wrong number honestly isn't that hard for me anymore. Or at least, none of the levels take more than 10 minutes to beat at most. And while that lets me see some of what they were going for with the level design a bit more clearly, I personally still don't find those harder levels particularly fun. The way you have to play to beat them just feels kinda frustrating, though it's cool to see it found its audience eventually.
And as far as dead series go, I'm glad HM at least got to go out on its own terms. Like, the reason we're never getting HM 3 isn't a rights issue or anything, the devs just said their piece and closed the book on it.
@@MHAL nah keep playig it you're going to end up loving the hardest levels like relase i used to HATE THAT LEVEL but i when i wanted to get an S i ended up loving it qnd is my favorite level and kinda easy for me
i had no idea the series was dead
god damn it
@@ultimateinternetman4335 yeah it's a shame
Tony just got that dog in him
no, it's a tiger
Murder... It's G-G-G-G-Great!

As the #1 Carl fan, I will not be tolerating this slander. I will be seeing you in court
I need the "he smoked too tought, his swag too different, his bitch too bad" as an separate clip seriously
yes you, you the content creator, you've done a great job. keep up. I watched it all, and believe it or not - I enjoyed.
Agree 👍
Man i wish i could find that WALL OF TEXT someone wrote in a track of Wrong Number stating how how all the mindless violence felt good in the first game and in the second game instead of bashing him over the head with "do you like hurting other people" it just "showed" or "explained" (i don't remember his comment but it was long) that phrase, he felt like he was being understood or seen or not being mocked for liking violence and instead it was comforting...perhaps even peaceful in the end/main menu. I'm probably misremembering a bit but if he reads this comment, remember Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade final words my dude: "Even in this, darkest of nights. I see...the moonlight"
You just can't keep dracula flow out of your videos. Love it
Why would he?
*They must have amnesia they forgot that I am him*
My favorite mask in the first game is Richard, because for my first whole game A+ run I thought it was the only mask the could get an A+ and was required, so I went the whole game A+’ing every Jacket level with Richard, because I thought that’s what you were supposed to do. The real reason I could seemingly only get A+’s with Richard was because using Tony lost a lot of score you can get with punch-down to execution combos and really Tony’s the only other mask aside from Richard.
The editing in this is so top notch it goes through the god damn roof, going to the farthest depths of cosmos. Fucking incredible stuff my man
i have an amazing clip from hlm2 of an enemy walking through two or three consecutive walls, loops around, walks through ANOTHER wall and then shoots me
This game taught me that being 300 pounds makes you bullet resistant
The fact that I've managed to sit through this video, be entertained and watch it in one sitting speaks volumes about the quality and how interesting it is.
Good job, well done.
5:20 Brooo the quick flash of Dio after killer the dog 💀💀💀
The problem with the Tony mask is that you can't collect points for finishers, cutting your score in half. The only mask that's useful for getting an A+ rank in all levels is Zack.
Coming from one of the 5 still alive hotline Miami fans, thank you for this video. You can tell you put genuine effort into this and I always love to consume any content I can from this game even if it is years later
These vids just keep getting better and better
I subscribed to the idea that the game's level design is intentionally "bad"
that doesn't mean people will like playing through the levels any more, but I adore how it plays into the theme
Yeah like it's not bad it's just different.
Zack made my A+ run, and by extension my 100% run, possible and as such, I will always love that dumbass frog.
22:09 had NO RIGHT to get me giggling like it did
just from the use of the word "jank" in the title i can tell you probably watch Grayfruit
I feel like jank is a more common term than just him, but also yes, absolutely.
Good vid. Not only good points, but also effective humor, which is admittedly hard to come by.
Fun fact: almost nothing on the soundtrack of the first game was actually made for the game.
Dennaton just browsed Bandcamp looking for good tracks for the game.
holy shit this video is so good how do you not have more subs
the writing, the editing, fucking banger video. looking forward to what you make next
Amazing video, i thought this video had like a 100k+ views, keep going
My friend, the stars aligned and we somehow both posted a hotline miami video that performed really well in the same time frame. Good on ya lad, nice vid!
super underrated video, love this 💯
I'd recommend 2 player police stories and katana zero. The first has more (and a pretty good) story, but gameplay is the same. Katana zero is a very different game, but it has the same fast paced one sit kill combat and a really good story. The two games combined are less than 15 dollars on steam, the first being four and the latter being 9.
Honestly great job you did here 👍 Such level of editing and care put into a video just earned you a sub and a blessing from the algorithms. Im sure if you keep this up it's only the question of "when" you will hit 7 digit subs count
Back then I had a laptop with no mouse so I had to beat causalities with a touch pad. It took me almost three hours to beat it
Honestly, I'm just glad to see both a new content about something I love and from something I am starting to love(seriously dude, u making some good fucking content and making me anxious for the next videos) Keep it up, good quality and sincere content and usual. Just thanks for the video!! ^^
Will be here waiting for your new stuff.
DAAAAN i was writing this by the end of the video and when the "you are the blood" started playing...all those familiar emotions from when I finished this game back in 2010-something came back. Shieet
Going to make me cry out here buddy
This was awesome sauce to watch
excellent video
19:07 i accidentally reset the game and THIS WAS ONE OF THE LAST LEVELS??? I COULD HAVE BEATEN HOTLINE MIAMI 2 BUT I ACCIDENTALLY RESET?
If by reset you mean you clicked on new game instead of continue, then the levels you beat should still be unlocked if you went into continue after the fact.
@@MHAL i ended up replaying it
17:02 I thought I heard this before , it's sampled in "Flooded district" from Ashes 2063. Slowly, I uncover the sauce.
I generally prefer the masks that make you move faster, over Tony. Moving at speed allows you to more easily take out groups in melee.
This video is BUSSIN
AWESOME VID
so good video dude
i got the second game first because my mindset used to be "if it got a second game it's probably better gameplay wise" i never finished it and just got the first game
@@Pugol Wrong Number does have a better gameplay tho, HLM1 is easier
I feel HM2 fell into the trap that most sequels do, in that it needed more of everything. It has more characters, more lore, and larger levels, which is great. However, the levels being larger made it more frustrating when you got stuck and it made the fatigue of dying over and over more draining, while the first game's shorter levels meant it was easier and more gratifying to get through a hard part. I can understand why it's something that's either liked or hated.
I think a lot of criticism for HM2 can just be most people not being good at the game and preferring the objectively easier gameplay of HM1
Draining is such a perfect word for this, especially for newcomers. (even experienced perfectionist) You can still struggle with the obvious flaws that (thankfully) could've been easily fixed but anyway, i wouldn't say it fell into any traps. The devs had stories they wanted to share and aside from those, they expanded the lore, world and characters in meaningful ways like any good sequel should. I don't think the game was supposed to suck....like MGS2 (on purpose) but unlike MGS2 they just wanted to give some definitive answers...and a definitive ending. Whether they succeeded or not it's up to you, we can at least all be grateful this series ain't being milked, it's just like Cole said in Infamous 2: "Twice as long..." and his best friend Zeke finishes the phrase: "...twice as bright". That describes both series of games, characters and their stories perfectly
The frustration is the point. You don't play it like an action game most of the time (the fans are the closest to the first game)
You can run and gun like a monster in HM1 if you're playing the console version with the intuitive control scheme and lock-on, as long as you can deal with doors being janky. The PC version feels so awkward to control it's almost like they intended you to just use Tony and melee everything.
jank makes things better
DEADBOLT MENTION!!!!
19:40 is it surprising that you can swing a knife way faster than a fire axe?
This bangs so hard
If I recall correctly, the dev didn't really *want* to do a sequel, so I feel like some of the more egregious issues with 2 was basically them venting about it. Spoilers past here.
The true finality of the ending for everyone except maybe Biker (which can be debated) with everything being nuked to hell especially feels like they were venting and making sure there wouldn't be another sequel.
how do the swedish always have so good games?
Underrated khantent
2:16 Le funny bug
They need to reboot this game and call it 3
God damn, the funny manga man made a jump between mediums and it was actually pretty great
8:01 lmao what the kiryu doin' 😂
Many of the jokes in this video you can only get if you've spent a decade or so submerged in internet. Dial it up, by the way.
Now try Midnight mercenaries
as someone who beat hotline miami 2 on hard I can say 1 thing, pain.
press r to restart
The issue is you're playing it as an action game instead of a puzzle game.
What music is that at 16:15?
A friend of mine, being a swedish game developer himself, told me a quite funny story about how the sadistic reaction times of the NPC’s in HM2 was due to the developers computers not being able to handle the game they developed. Basically it ran way slower and wasn’t as much of a challenge lol
I don’t get the casualties hate I love that level
(Talks about how difficult the second game is)
(Doesn't even mention the hardmode)
Fair enough. I'll say this though, beating the hardmode and then replying the game on normal makes it feel like the first game. That being said I think I lost part of my soul getting that achievement and if I didn't hate minorities and have estrogen flowing through my veins before that I do now.
What's the game with the characters dancing to out of touch ?
pathalogic
unc crazy
justin trudaeu jumpscare lmao
i feel like i wouldnt have played hm1 and 2 if they werent so buggy. im of the opinion that bugs can often make a game, they often add reward for experimentation and let you use tools that not even the devs couldve predicted, stuff like ripping throats thru walls in both games or in 2 specifically ripping throats with a gun to add ammo to it, killing fattiest thru walls using melee weapons to also clip thru said walls. all of it comes together to make a more fun game the more you understand the game at its core
hotline miami 2 is better the only downside is u cant play the other levels in the same game
he dosent have a shift key
HM2 has many problems, but your review is just a massive skill issue
Eh I feel like he had a point? I love HM2 but it absolutely has a different gameplay loop than the first. I wouldn't say its BAD like he said but its def different and I can understand why somebody wouldn't like it
@@yoji5759 He's saying things that every other person who has made a misinformed review on the game has said. They try to play the game exactly like HM1, you can't really play the game like HM1 because it's more gunplay focused over brainrot melee. Hold shift, find enemy, kill. He does also have a major skill issue lmao
@@yoji5759 he literally said its good 16:23
But other than that great video lol.
Use the shift key lol
Wait this isnt manga
good except like every single hotline miami related video overuses turbo killer which is a good song except that there a better songs on trilogy

Skill issue tbh
i feel like he only talked shit abt hotline miamk 2 lmao
