Thanks for the clarification, this is very helpful in dissecting what makes SS2 feel so off. Everyone always says it's the art style, but I always thought it to be much more than that despite it being difficult to put a finger on it.
SS TNE is more about just use whatever you want and kill it have fun with it. Mean while the SS2 weapon feel weak and they kindna mess the weapon stats. That why some people still like TNE it isn't big like SS2 but the gun play and Map design keep bring people that love serious sam back to play it
I've checked the Serious Sam wiki, I am 99% sure there have never been enemy damage resistances. What's actually going on is that Sam2 enemies just across the board have less health, or weapons do more damage. Examples: *The T-Mech has 700 health compared to the Biomechanoid's 750. *Clockwork Rhinos have 225 health compared to a Werebull's 250 *Kleers have 130 health. The Sam1 Coach Gun dealt 140 damage spread over 14 pellets, while the Sam2 Double Shotgun deals 168 damage over 14 pellets. This means the Sam1 Coach Gun needs 13 pellets to kill a Kleer, but the Sam2 Double Shotgun only needs 12 pellets, which is a big difference in how forgiving it is. *The Minigun deals double damage in Sam2 compared to Sam1. Interestingly, this double damage was kept in Sam3 and Sam4
I like the 'comic' design of Sam, with very distinct features and appearance, wide chest and shoulders, big chin, he looked awesome, and that cover art for SS2 with him dual wielding Uzis is iconic

In my headcanon, Sam entering the timelock created two separate timelines: A. The main timeline, being TFE HD, TSE HD and whatever comes next after SS4 B. The 'comic sams' timeline, being SS Xbox, TNE and SS2 I think the Comic Sams aesthetic definitely has merit (though I prefer the direction Sam is going in now) - so for those who like the more cartoony look, it groups them into an alternate timeline that works as its own spin-off series. @@semvision Well, I wasn't saying that the separate timeline idea was fact, it's headcanon. Regardless, you could easily say the opening cutscene is just a stylized flashback as opposed to an accurate representation of what happened.

Serious Sam 2 is not as bad as they say, it has bad jokes, has a very fun multiplayer, I do not know exactly what is "different" from the rest of the franchise, is if it is still killing a huge number of enemies with crazy weapons, But it's true, you can just play the game using the super shotgun, it ruins the concept of "the right weapon, for the right enemy" a bit.
I feel weird about SS2. Mechanically (for the most part) I love it. I also enjoy the super vibrant and cartoony art I like the humour but don't like the jokes if that makes sense? I love the horribly uncanny valley tone of everything. But all the writing just doesn't hit for me. Maybe it's the concept I like but the execution that I don't?
CaptJABRONIE I feel the same, basically. For me, Serious Sam TFE and TSE were pretty good, but teddious for the most part. I enjoy them, but I don't love them. Serious Sam 2 is far more like a Over-The-Top Doom mod. I like it a lot! However, it isn't as well designed as TFE/TSE. I just simply enjoy it, even if the humor is usually pretty bad. I perfer it to TFE/TSE, even if it is arguably worse designed.
FrameRater, I hope you read this. I got to the end of this video and almost teared up. Let me explain: I am 28. I have been a gamer since I was 2, especially because my family moved around a lot, 9 states. My favorite game of all time(modern would be Bioshock or MGS) was always Sonic the Hedgehog 3. I play it annually, maybe multiple times a year. I love love love the music, it and Comix Zone have the best Sega Genesis Soundtracks. I sometimes even listen to the Sonic 3 soundtrack when I perform chores around my apartment or things of that nature. The MJ “Come On!” Mini Boss theme is my ringtone. My favorite tracks have always been that, Hydrocity, Marble Garden, and just recently I’ve learned to love Launch Base zone, especially Act 2, and placed it among my favorites. I’ve been on a kick of it lately, listening to the extended 30 minute loop here on RUclips. Then I buy the Serious Sam collection to re-experience the games, and discover your channel. I watch this because I own the port of SS2 on steam and never played it. I enjoy your video to the end, and right as the video is closing, I hear that sweet Launch Base opening bass. I almost cried it was so coincidental and existentially awesome to me that someone else loves that music just as much as I do. Thanks man, you gained a new fan today.
As SS2 was the first SS game i played as a child is still the one i love playing the most. And honestly to me there are more similarities in terms of style between SSFE and SS2 than between SSFE and SS3 and 4
1:30 I talk from experience. It was. I was a huge fan of Serious Sam FC and SC. Played those games to death when they came out. When Serious Sam 2 was announced, the cartoon look immediately put me away. I had no interest in that game whatsoever. I ignored the existence of that game. My interest in Serious Sam only came back with the HD remasters of the originals. I didn't know what I was missing out though. I've just finished playing SS2 for the first time now in 2021/2022 and I loved it.
I grew up playing serious sam with my dad. I used to watch him play the first two encounters all the time until he built me a pc of my own. By then I was mostly playing quake and unreal since I was too scared of the hordes of enemies in Sam. Once serious Sam 2 came out with it's cartoon style, goofy sound effects, and more weapons I was hooked. Till this day serious sam 2 will always be my favorite. Dad's are just the best.
Serious Sam 2 makes it hard to go back to any other SS game. It is the most fun out of all of them. Next Encounter was a torture: the Antlantis levels were so boring that I began to play on easy so that I could finish the game as fast as possible. Rome and China were fun though.
I never understood why people hated Serious Sam 2 so strongly... Like, yeah the humour was cringe-y and it had a few bad ideas, but let's not pretend that the first two Encounters were that much better in terms of gameplay. Serious Sam 2 arguably improved on the gameplay aspect in several key areas. Honestly, if I ever had a younger sibling during the time of SS2's release, I think it would have been a great game to introduce them to the FPS genre.
I don't dislike Sam 2 that much, but its gameplay style is undeniably simpler. In classic, the stats are adjusted in such a way that you can create meaningful connections between certain weapons and enemies. In Sam 2, weapons are very powerful and most enemies can be taken down with a single rocket (or two). A proper weapon formula could work in Sam 2, but they replace enemies so often that any system you memorize could be meaningless two levels later anyways.
i still not understand peoples, or they maybe being too serious? even serious sam probably base off duke nukem, peoples still think that serious sam are always serious which none of this duke nukem do, ss2 is the best on try to make duke3d humor and stuff
I've emailed Climax a couple of times regarding the development of NE and Advance, hoping to get some background on there involvement in the SS series. But I've sadly never gotten a reply.
I'd check the credits for the game, look into contacting ex-developers. They might not be involved with the company anymore so they wouldn't really be able to say much to you anyways (if that is the case).
The way I see Serious Sam... Serious Sam has a very SERIOUS plot. A gritty theme and atmosphere combined with WACKY elements: Screaming Headless Kamikazes combined with Kleer Skeletons, Harpies, Werebulls, Khnums, Lava Golems and more of Mental's "diverse" army. Oh, and Serious Sam is DAMN SERIOUS all the time that ends up being very funny especially that some of his one-liners can crack me and other people. I guess this is ANOTHER ASPECT of me NOT LIKING Serious Sam 2. For a strange reason, Witch Brides are definitely one of the most interesting enemies in Serious Sam despite their "annoyance" in Serious Sam 3 - which are now better in Serious Sam 4. BUT, this isn't why they're interesting, it has something to do with THEIR design and THEIR lore which is very interesting (I wonder if we'll get to face and fight Achriman?). I really hope we'll see them in future Serious Sam games especially the Serious Sam 2 Reboot.
Yeah I gotta disagree with the Serious Sam 2 destruction, the explosive reaction that each enemy give when killing them is downright satisfying and makes every enemy death feel good. In the first game you could hit an enemy with a rocket point blank sometimes and they’d just fall over or react the same as when they did when you sprayed them with bullets. I don’t know, I just feel killing things in 2 always feels fulfilling. I kinda disagree on the blood, I get it’s weird but it fits the aesthetic and it’s not like gore or blood is toned down for everything, still feels punchy when something explodes or dies. I’m honestly so desensitized yo blood at this point, censored blood kinda stands out more.
@@Nevermore2790 Thats a fair point, though with the amount of enemies on screen and the limitations of the Original Xbox, it may have been impossible to do decals of that magnitude with such hardware limitations Honestly, SS2 could've fixed a lot of its problems if wasn't held back by the Xbox, and was considered mainly for PC only. Art Style, Live system, and the ease of it almost always feel like a problem created by the limitations, rather than being enhanced by them.
I don’t actually mind the cartoony direction, it’s just some of the limitations made to the art style/ease of it all seems to birthed from it being made in cooperation with Xbox.
It's sad, really. Next Encounter and even the Xbox port had a good thing going on with their cartoony antics, but the setting and enemies all at least resembled the classics. And then Serious Sam 2 came along and ruined it with its complete disregard for the series' roots. Hopefully Croteam will revisit this style with a spinoff or something
Even though Ss2 humor was very unfunny I still like this game for it's bizarreness. You never know what is gonna happen next and you endup wondering who would make a game like this
For me, SS2 is the best Sam. SS2 made Sam stand out from the pack. The Original's were good for their time but another game with the same aesthetic would just drown in a sea of sameness IMO. SS2 still holds up today. SS3 and SS4 are just modern day Brown military COD/SAM's.
I believe that motion controls are better for FPS on controller. It's sad to see that you can't use motion controls on a PS4 and it's just simply non-existant on the xbox. it truly makes the game different. I know when people think of motion controls, they think of the Wii, but it's not like that, it genuinely adds to the experience. the switch is one console that gets FPS right.
9:20 , I know you can take out the red orbs with a cannonball . However I could be wrong and am just remembering the other encounters. Also fuck I wish they’d rerelease this game on current consoles/hardware
a simple solution to the martial art zombies I just thought of would be to completely remove the top half of their body. Serious Sam already has headless enemies, so why not torsoless ones too? just a pair of legs coming after you to deliver dropkicks and roundhouse kicks and such would work much better for the setting, and I think it's a unique design
I'm a big fan of the original games and classic era FPS in general and having recently started to replay SS2 I tend to agree with most points brought up in this video essay. Very valid criticisms overall, especially the gameplay balancing part which I fucking hate in this game (weapon stats vs enemy health). The bullet spongy enemies that pose very little actual threat feel like some kinda cheap filler gameplay, the backpacks that are spammed all over the maps restoring all of your available ammo types to the fullest denying you any sense of meaningful resource management, and the constant enemy gibbing despite using a weak ass uzi lol.. I think much of it comes from nerfing core 'mechanically demanding' enemies like Kleer, Kamikazes, Werebulls, etc to the point where the devs had to start introducing new enemy types with bullet spongy stats to make up for it to create 'engaging gameplay'. The constant enemy gibbing part feels like a last resort kinda thing designed to make your guns feel powerful and fun, even tho it creates dissonance in visual feedback. Gameplay stats vs visual feedback probably feels 'right' on difficulties lower than Serious, but its really off the mark on the fucking titular difficulty of the game lol I've yet to rebeat the game at this point (about halfway done with it I guess) and I find myself mostly suffering through brainless filler gameplay covered up with 'goofy' shit to make it 'fun' most of the time just for the sake of getting to the last level, because for some reason I seem to have fond memories of it being mechanically interesting and challenging. Now, don't get me wrong, there are still some interesting fights in SS2 but they're just so rare and far in between that I really hope the last level is gonna make up for it (at least the part before the final boss where you have to use the vehicle).
Thanks for getting me into Serious Sam games. There's some really cool looking engine ports for modded Switches that I think I'll try soon. If you have a moddable Switch it would be cool for you to check out. You still have to own the original game and move the asstes over manually (ex. OpenMW, GZDoom).
I would love to, I just still am not so sure about modding my Switch. I still have games that I play online with friends and getting it banned would be a mega bummer.
giant dino secret is fun too bad we never got to ride him afterwards i dont remember the flying kleers or the centuars at all, but do remember the succubi :P
I kinda wish there was like a seperate universe for SS2 game. We could maybe get another game in that style from some different indie studio. I love classic Sam but I also miss 2's bizarreness.
I've watched most of your videos on the sam series of games. I don't recall you mentioning what difficulty you normally play on? On the remastered games for Switch I've been playing on "Serious " difficulty, which I find to be almost too hard to play. I also just started playing SS4 and I chose "hard" which is the 2nd hardest difficulty. I find it to be near impossible around the 6th chapter. I like a challenge, but am probably going to have to lower the difficulty to finish it.
Serious Sam TFE made me rething my opinion on Painkiller a lot, it's definitely not true whenever people say these games are alike, but I wish it was. That said, I don't think Painkiller is anywhere near as mindless as Serious Sam 2, mainly because the weapon roster is more creative, if limited...
Eh, i liked serious sam 2, and I think I prefer that artstyle than the other ones, it fits for serious sam as I never saw it as a in a any way serious game. So I much prefer silly diverse artstyle than boring underground catacombs and gray villages.
I feel that you were somewhat harsh with SS2, to the point of complaining about Picky details such as complaining about the way enemies explode and blood, I understand your point about weapons, but it is not that exaggerated, also the first games also became repetitive on occasions, like the first game, which reaches a point that it is only to use the minigun and the plasma rifle and in the second encounter, the flamethrower made the shotguns useless, SS2 is very entertaining, what I mean is that it does not have nothing wrong just being a shooter to kill time, besides, it is not like any weapon is useful for ALL situations, there are occasions where it is better to use, let's say Uzis, than shotguns, etc, all weapons are good, but one it's better than another in different situations, sometimes, I think my biggest problem with SS2 is that it doesn't know when to stop, seriously, many times and some waves of enemies are ETERNAL, repeating the same wave over and over like 5 times to artificially extend the game, and as it overuses the clowns reaching a certain point in the game, the final level is a test of patience rather than being challenging, it seems to last forever, and many times when you die it's not why you did something Wrong, it's because you get caught up in how long some waves are and aren't even paying attention anymore, and the bosses are terrible. It's not perfect, but it's definitely not the worst in the series, much less a bad game.
The way enemies explode and blood is probably the most important critique I have about the game just short of the weapon formulas, in my opinion. So no I don't think I was harsh about that at all.
@@FrameRater What I am saying is, why do you give so much importance to those points? They are aesthetic points that do not affect the game itself, rather how it feels, and it does not seem enough to say that the game is bad for that alone, at least for me.
All other Serious Sam games besides Serious Sam 2, just looks sooo generic. Serious Sam 2 will always have a place in my heart and I'll honestly melt if it does come to nowadays console! Unlikely, but one can dream!
I feel most of the levels in SS2 are just corridors with enemies spawning in front of you. Not needing to be too aware of your surroundings makes the game dull to me. Just hold mouse button and grenade spam. Though while some enemies are generally weaker, later on they throw wave after wave of spongey enemies... which also doesn't help it feel any less dull. I wanted to like it, just beat it because a friend really wanted to, while the other ones I beat maaaany times (playing through Next for the first time now and enjoying it so far). Oh yeah, one more thing: waves of enemies that are so long, it makes you feel like the game bugged. Long even for SS standards. Edit: tried playing with a controller since I was enjoying Next and thought the gameplay was kinda similar. But it isn't. Made me realize another thing: TOO MANY charging melee enemies... they dont mix and match as much in this one, it's mostly either shooting gallery with all enemies ranged or toreador shit to dodge the chargers....
There is a lot I want to disagree with you about in Sam2, but at least it's a respectful disagreement. I like the rainbow blood, but you made your case why it feels like a downgrade. I like the martial arts zombies, but you made your case why they don't work. But I have no idea what you're talking about with the "all the weapons feel the same" part. Even taking into account how enemies have less health and weapons deal more damage (I can paste a few examples later in this comment) I felt myself asking "oh boy, which guns can I still afford ammo for?" many times in my Sam2 playthrough. The Plasma Rifle is a huge favorite of mine, but not every level that gives it to you gives you ammo. I find myself saving bullets just in case I need to swat flying enemies, I find myself saving shotgun shells just in case I need to tango with the stupid rolling balls (because physics),. I just feel it's more engaging than you give it credit for As promised, here are some of the reasons Sam2 is easier, from the perspective of Enemies have less health and Sam deals more damage: *The T-Mech has 700 health compared to the Biomechanoid's 750.
Regarding "all weapons feel the same", I'm not sure if I even said it like that exactly, but my point was there's no damage-to-enemy related reason to use one weapon over another. Sure with the highest tier enemies, but with enemies of low-to-medium tier you can use any weapon and get away with it, unless it's the useless colts or zapgun. None of them feel like they have inherent worth in battle over one another. Doesn't have anything to do with how much ammo is available for them or not, in my argument. Enemy health and weapon damage is just one part of what contributes to making a game easier. What about the attack patterns? Most importantly, how much damage do THEY do? And on what difficulty?
@@FrameRater >None of them feel like they have inherent worth in battle over one another This is the part I disagree with. It might be watered down a little bit compared to Sam1, but I never felt it was gone entirely in Sam2 As for enemies dealing damage to Sam, I find that it's pretty much the same in Sam1 and Sam2 and even Sam3
I personally really like Serious Sam 2 since im more of a cartoony dumb humor kind of guy but I can understand why some people hate it. edit 1: Witches are easy to take down with good tracking and the only enemies I find annoying in SS2 are the clowns and footballers edit 2: SS2 grenade launcher arc is weird
The Next Encounter is in my headcanon. It really to me feels like an evolution on the First and Second encounters. I don't consider Serious Sam 2 in my headcanon.
Calling garbage like SS2 and NE “real sam games” is just an insult to the legacy of TFE and TSE. Nothing in SS2 and NE doesn’t even come close to what TFE and TSE were. Just garbage “spam M1 and grenades” to win games with bad level design and lame cartoony shit.
I don't hate nor love serious sam 2's artstyle. It's alright, at least it's original. What I hate is the lack of any strategy like you said in the video. They dumbed down the game a lot. And yeah, looking at all things that Croteam made over the years I am convinced that Serious Sam TFE and TSE are a fluke. They must have been lucky and their random design just works in the first two games. Everything after that is a crap shoot. It's also clear that they are mostly 3d engineers that just wanted to live off of their engine and didn't really want to make any games but had to. This explains why they remake the same game every few years when new 3d technology is available. HD, Fusion, VR...
Actually the thing I hate most about this game is the stock female scream sound effects in the cutscenes. That, and the annoying sounds the civilian NPCs make (the ones that fight alongside you are better).

Moment i sat down i started to stay there but then i thought i heard something. Still aint got up but then went outside to the mail box on my front porch....a box was there with my name on it. I open it and the chills, the tears, the whole moment had me just i cant explain it. FIRST time in forever i popped it in my ps2 and the levels and music. Lmfao on my first play i went hella crazy tv on 100 and so much running and gunning. They dont make games like they use too. I thought this game was long gone and iv never thought i see it again.
*Strongbad:* * plays an FPS using a controller while wearing boxing gloves *
Serious sam classics will always be the best. Ss4 looks very promising and will most likely be awesome but the classics are just too good to beat.
Like they say: old is gold

Next Encounter was my favorite of the series. Awesome soundtrack, cool themes, and probably the best weapon incarnations.
Damn he really wants a dynamic skybox
FrameRater, I hope you read this. I got to the end of this video and almost teared up. Let me explain:
I am 28.
And honestly to me there are more similarities in terms of style between SSFE and SS2 than between SSFE and SS3 and 4
My favorite games in the series, even if they were somewhat consolized
It just had a lot more charm to them

Serious sam first and second encounter fan vs serious sam 2 enjoyer
I really appreciate your thoroughness and manic dedication to Serious Sam.
I wanted to see the serious continue in this cartoony style. That would have been amazing
Agreeed
Serious sam 2 is the best
19:51 The Rollerball ennemy come back in Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope :)
Very controversial opinion
the roller balls are there because of the physics
Comic Sams. Yes.
"yeah framerater" awesome vid btw I can't get enough of the serious sam and Duke nukem content
i still not understand peoples, or they maybe being too serious? even serious sam probably base off duke nukem, peoples still think that serious sam are always serious which none of this duke nukem do, ss2 is the best on try to make duke3d humor and stuff
Serious Sam 2 is the best in the series, change my mind.
I didn't change your mind? Gee idk then tbh.
Idk maybe it’s because I personally prefer the weapons, and Civvie, and frantic action feeling.
agree
I really wanna play it, but I'm not a PC player and the Xbox version's not backwards compatible.
No gnaar enemies
Great video as usual, I love Serious Sam (I started with Next Encounter). You should really talk about Puyo Puyo more
i want cucurbitos back man
I wish we can see Cucurbitos again as our enemies in next games. Those pumpkin guys are fun! (my fav enemy) ;,,,,(

I think lizards are an easter egg. They look just like aliens from Alien Shooter.
I really hope we'll see them in future Serious Sam games especially the Serious Sam 2 Reboot.
i love game being not to seriously, i chose ss2 over ss3 and probably ss classic
Serious Sam II is cool like the originals. I like the bird-Bomb ("Ahaaa!") ^^ The newer games are not bad.
Yay! More Serious Sam content!
I don't think I've ever disagreed with something so much before! =)
What I do not like in Serious Sam 2 THE MOST is that there's no Blood Decals. Shoot an enemy, blood effect appears, but blood decals/splatters don't.
@@Nevermore2790 Thats a fair point, though with the amount of enemies on screen and the limitations of the Original Xbox, it may have been impossible to do decals of that magnitude with such hardware limitations
Honestly, SS2 could've fixed a lot of its problems if wasn't held back by the Xbox, and was considered mainly for PC only. Art Style, Live system, and the ease of it almost always feel like a problem created by the limitations, rather than being enhanced by them.
@@AVGNROCKS1996 Honestly I feel like SS2 would have always been the bizzare cartoony nightmare regardless of the Xbox.
I just wanted Serious Sam Next Encounter Remaster/Remake for PC
Why? Played it in dolphin just fine in 4k and 60 fps.
With MnK?
Nope, xbox controller. I play all games with controller.
For some reason I always assumed they would to Next Encounter after 1st and 2nd Encounter HD. I'm kinda sad they didn't.
@@todesziege Maybe a matter of licence? It wasn't developed by Croteam.
Even though Ss2 humor was very unfunny I still like this game for it's bizarreness. You never know what is gonna happen next and you endup wondering who would make a game like this
There were some funny moments but the delivery was a bit off
For me, SS2 is the best Sam.
I feel like I binge all of these videso from time to time lol
9:20 , I know you can take out the red orbs with a cannonball . However I could be wrong and am just remembering the other encounters. Also fuck I wish they’d rerelease this game on current consoles/hardware
a simple solution to the martial art zombies I just thought of would be to completely remove the top half of their body. Serious Sam already has headless enemies, so why not torsoless ones too? just a pair of legs coming after you to deliver dropkicks and roundhouse kicks and such would work much better for the setting, and I think it's a unique design
oh, gimme a break, I can't imagine people liking Next Encounter, but not Sam2
That's no Jeep, that's a Humvee.
Gameplay stats vs visual feedback probably feels 'right' on difficulties lower than Serious, but its really off the mark on the fucking titular difficulty of the game lol
I've yet to rebeat the game at this point (about halfway done with it I guess) and I find myself mostly suffering through brainless filler gameplay covered up with 'goofy' shit to make it 'fun' most of the time just for the sake of getting to the last level, because for some reason I seem to have fond memories of it being mechanically interesting and challenging. Now, don't get me wrong, there are still some interesting fights in SS2 but they're just so rare and far in between that I really hope the last level is gonna make up for it (at least the part before the final boss where you have to use the vehicle).
Serious sam next encounter walked so that ultrakill could run
this channel is the channel
I wonder what Civive 11 would think about this
Lol Civvie likes Serious Sam 2, and it seems he doesn't like normal SS, he sees them as cheap shooters with no substance.
I cant believe serious sam 2 just got an update on steam, shits wild lol. Im glad im having fun with the game so far
In all fairness, Serious Sam 2 was both crotem and Mentals acid trip phase 😅
Thanks for getting me into Serious Sam games. There's some really cool looking engine ports for modded Switches that I think I'll try soon. If you have a moddable Switch it would be cool for you to check out. You still have to own the original game and move the asstes over manually (ex. OpenMW, GZDoom).
I would love to, I just still am not so sure about modding my Switch. I still have games that I play online with friends and getting it banned would be a mega bummer.
I appreciate the Decino nod :D

Its like they decided to create Sam game for mentally challenged american kids. Better to just forget this part ever existed.
Okay that title is gold
Apparently in NE, Acient Rome was going to be Acient Greece originally
Another great video. Well done.
I kinda wish there was like a seperate universe for SS2 game. We could maybe get another game in that style from some different indie studio. I love classic Sam but I also miss 2's bizarreness.
Ah yes, another excuse to talk about Next Encounter
You said it like talking about Next Encounter is a bad thing
I've watched most of your videos on the sam series of games. I don't recall you mentioning what difficulty you normally play on? On the remastered games for Switch I've been playing on "Serious " difficulty, which I find to be almost too hard to play. I also just started playing SS4 and I chose "hard" which is the 2nd hardest difficulty. I find it to be near impossible around the 6th chapter. I like a challenge, but am probably going to have to lower the difficulty to finish it.
Usually hard tbh. I played on SERIOUS years ago but I don't play nearly as much so my skill has dropped a bit.
Considering you mentioned painkiller quite a few times, will you be doing a review of that series?
Serious Sam TFE made me rething my opinion on Painkiller a lot, it's definitely not true whenever people say these games are alike, but I wish it was. That said, I don't think Painkiller is anywhere near as mindless as Serious Sam 2, mainly because the weapon roster is more creative, if limited...
Man next encounter is the best
2 kind of reminds me of if Sam was dropped into Jimmy Nutron or Planet Sheen
I love TNE and if it wasn’t for the absolutely awesome gore of TFE/TSE HD it would be my favorite of the series
Eh, i liked serious sam 2, and I think I prefer that artstyle than the other ones, it fits for serious sam as I never saw it as a in a any way serious game. So I much prefer silly diverse artstyle than boring underground catacombs and gray villages.
I agree, wish they would've stuck with the cartoony art style. The modern military look of SS3 & 4 doesn't fit imo.
Oh wow. Just realized I'm a pariah unwelcome on your channel lol. Serious Sam 2 is one of my favorite games ever. :(
13:23 So you Don't like Serious sam : Next Encounter ?
This looks still more appealing than the brown / de-saturated sequels
Where is 13:27 from ?
I don’t care for the humor in Sam 2, but it feels way less tedious to play then the others
All other Serious Sam games besides Serious Sam 2, just looks sooo generic. Serious Sam 2 will always have a place in my heart and I'll honestly melt if it does come to nowadays console! Unlikely, but one can dream!
Crow team’s - 💀
I just feel it's more engaging than you give it credit for
As promised, here are some of the reasons Sam2 is easier, from the perspective of Enemies have less health and Sam deals more damage:
*The T-Mech has 700 health compared to the Biomechanoid's 750.
*Clockwork Rhinos have 225 health compared to a Werebull's 250
*Kleers have 130 health.
@@FrameRater >None of them feel like they have inherent worth in battle over one another
This is the part I disagree with. It might be watered down a little bit compared to Sam1, but I never felt it was gone entirely in Sam2
As for enemies dealing damage to Sam, I find that it's pretty much the same in Sam1 and Sam2 and even Sam3
Idk man this would start a whole huge argument that I'm just not feeling like having right now
@@FrameRater Sorry if I came across like that. I respect your opinion on Sam2 even if I disagree with it
I personally really like Serious Sam 2 since im more of a cartoony dumb humor kind of guy but I can understand why some people hate it.
edit 1: Witches are easy to take down with good tracking and the only enemies I find annoying in SS2 are the clowns and footballers
edit 2: SS2 grenade launcher arc is weird
yeah frame RAAAAAAAAAAAATEEEEEEEEEEEEER!
The Next Encounter is in my headcanon. It really to me feels like an evolution on the First and Second encounters. I don't consider Serious Sam 2 in my headcanon.
With the popularity of Epic games Fortnite i would like it if sam returned back to a more comical look or at least apply as a filter.
Sad to see they had to go out of this style and now are in a military-boring stuff, for me the real SS games were these SSX,SS2 and NE
Watching this video post-SS4 hurts.
I think it’s spelled, “Ecks Deeeeee”.

I've been waiting
Serious Sam started to go a bit crazy with the humour in TSE but these games ran with it. Not for the better either. 🤔
Serious Chin lolololol
Actually the thing I hate most about this game is the stock female scream sound effects in the cutscenes. That, and the annoying sounds the civilian NPCs make (the ones that fight alongside you are better).
SERIOUS SAM NEXT ENCOUNTER 👀 Lmao bought this like i dont know how many times back then in those days. Played it aloooot too hours and hours and hours even late nights. 2016 i re-bought it again and maaaaaan oh man THE CHILLS WERE REAL AND TEARS. Its still sitting in my ps2 collection lol right now
Suggest you try it out on the GameCube, it runs a lot better and has superior graphical detail.
@@FrameRater i will definitely have to try that.
