I have a bb58, I also owned a Rolex sub 16610, I kept the sub after buying the bb58 for 1 year to see if I would miss it or which I would prefer to wear, every time I went for the black bay, twice I was in a tricky situation where it seemed as though too much interest shown in me wearing my sub, once on holiday abroad, and again in London, also my son loved the sub, but as much as I love my son a great deal more than a watch, and I didn’t want to hang a target around his neck when I left it to him. The purchase of my 16610 was something that bought as a sort of recognition (to myself) of the hard work I have done to achieve what I have as a sole trader for 50 years. I sold the sub for almost 3 times what I purchased it for 10 years ago, and bought my boy (38 yrs), you have guessed it, a bb 58 he loves it, just like I loved the sub when I first bought it, terrified of scratching it, couldn’t stop lifting my sleeve up to look at it, and he only wears his at weekends !! I never took the 16610 off my wrist, decorating, building ,gardening etc, but approaching 70yrs if I was (seriously) threatened for the bb58 I would give it up in a heart beat, move on and buy another bb58. Something I may not of done for the 16610. And something my son would would never have done !! I enjoy my watch, and prefer it more than the 16610, it is never off my wrist

Too small imo. Did you try it on? I tried it on. I don't see any improvement over the 58. Clasp is better and crown has been improved, but the small size is a fad. Give it 5 years, it will go out of fashion. Best to stick with the classic 58.

I love it when people like Tudor. From a business model point of view, I prefer them to Rolex. Oh, and by the way, Tudor makes some great watches. If they had a thin GMT movement, they would have it all.
Some guy on a watch site was trying to guess what the new Rolex releases would be. I told to him to wait and see. When it does come out, you won’t be able to buy it anyway. You’ll have plenty of time to think about it while you wait a year or more. Then, if you have purchased enough things you didn’t want, you may get the call. Pass…

BB54 is better than BB58. Thanks to its more measured size and the red index which has disappeared, it seems more refined. It is therefore more versatile. However, although it is beautiful, I have a little trouble with its fake vintage look because of its fake rivets. A little bad taste I think. I'm afraid I'll end up getting bored watching it in the long run. So I hesitate between the BB54 and the incredible PELAGOS 39.

I can certainly appreciate the excitement over the BB54. As a BB58 black owner, I don’t think I would trade it for a 54. Yes, the new bracelet is an improvement, but I love the gilted bezel with the red triangle. I also feel 39mm is a perfect size for a sports watch.

Well said. I tried on the 54 and didn't enjoy it. Definitely too diminutive on my 6.5 inch wrist. I can't see how any one with wrists bigger than 6 inches will be able to honestly say it looks better than the 58. It may feel more comfortable but you will definitely complain of the look of the size. I agree theT-Fit and knurling of the crown and the bezel is better on the 54 but I prefer the bigger crown on the 58.

Great comments. I have skinny wrists and i'm ok with a "standard" 42x47mm diver, but seeing a smaller diameter and slimmer thickness is a highly welcomed surprise. Many people have asked for smaller watches lately, me included, and seeing a top brand making a 37mm diver with fine heritage is good news - and i hope this starts a trend across the watch world.

  • @MarkDanger777

Watches look way bigger on wrist on pictures/videos than in person, that's why I have to wear 40-42mm watches. The bb58 was just a tad small for me, so i went with the root beer. If they'd made the hands silver instead of gold on the 54 it might have swung it for me though - as it is the balance of gilt and steel on the 58 is better imo. The 54 is gorgeous and consistent with the trend that we're being pulled towards: the attraction for smaller watches. As you say, at first glance it looks very similar to the 58. It's only upon closer inspection that one picks up on the subtleties in the differences. A classier rendition? Possibly. Will definitely need to try it on to determine. For me, a sports watch has to be a certain size, where as with a dress watch the size it's not so important. Arguably therefore the 58 is perfect. This is my dilemma. Congratulations on your new purchase btw!

I tried it on at the AD. Too small imo. Unless you have smaller than 6 inch wrist then I suggest the classic 58. On the 54 the bezel doesn't match the dial and without the hash marks it's not a proper dive timer. Remember this is based on an early model Tudor Sub. The improvements came incrementally and the 58 is the best tribute to the culmination of these improvements

Bravo!!!! Tudor did it again. This looks like it was the best release from Tudor and Rolex this year. It will be a while before I see in in the US, but Tudor watches are not difficult to get. This is another one watch collection type of timepiece. IMO far better looking than modern ceramic Rolex Submariners. It looks very vintage and that’s the charm of this piece. It’s like a Black Bay 58 but refined. The size is perfect for many wrist sizes and the low profile is a winner in my book. I will definitely get one this year. The biggest thing I noticed when I went to look at the 54 vs the 58 was the bezel on the 54 is more "polished" on the edge vs. the 58 which made turning it a bit harder vs the 58. This was the biggest thing I did not like on the 54. The other thing, is that me with smaller wrists, I really was hoping for a more compact fit on the wrist with the 54, shocking that the lug to lug was about identical in the metal although its technically 1mm shorter. I think this was a miss for Tudor, the should have not extended the case as you pointed out, and departed soon after the bezel and ended up with something like a 45mm lug to lug, that would have been just amazing for smaller wrists, which I feel was the whole point of this. So in summary, it's beautiful (I do love it) but, its not a big difference in real world vs the BB58 in terms of size. The bezel is harder to grip as a result of the polished edge as is the crown. So, it's just a matter of trading one thing for another when looking at the 58. Not an upgrade, just different.

I’m actually on a waiting list for a Rolex, and only God knows if I’m ever gonna get the call. Love the new subtle changes like the round second hand with the counter balance, the size is beautiful in my opinion. The overall look reminds me of the maxi case of the sub in a smaller proportion. I would actually nick name it the “Mini Maxi” if it was up to me. I also love the rubber strap, it looks really classy and gives you the option to change the look fairly easy with an original strap. If I end up never getting my Rolex, I would really consider buying the BB 54, it’s a beautiful watch. I would never sell my BB 58 blue by the way.

Do you think the jubilee bracelets offered on the other Tudor models will fit the Black Bay 54? preferably one that has a T-fit clasp. That would be an instant buy for me.

I tried on both the 54 and 58 at the AD and the 58 was so much better for my 17cm wrist. The 54 didn’t feel right - my 2022 Rolex Explorer 36mm looks so much better on me. No doubt that the 54 is a nice watch though…

From my perspective is 58 much superior to 54. I love biger, Tudor's BB "signiture" crown so much better. Also minute markers between 0 and 15 on the bezel ale so practical despite BB58 looks more elegant than toolish. The red triangle makes gilt BB58 version very unique and 39 size is nothing that big that it wold have to be sized down. So I see here new 54 model beneficial mostly for women with really thin wrists who like dive watches with better clasp. Don't take me wrong...the BB54 is still very pretty watch, but not better than BB58. Thank you for such detailed comparison video anyway. Cheers!

Not to mention the 54 really is not wearing much smaller than the 58 anyway. The lug to lug in real life is about the same.

Looking forward to trying this on my 19CM wrist. I prefer smaller watches but I know the 36 explorer felt too small for me. I wear a medium Santos, but on that watch I prefer the smaller size.

I own a BB58 and only gripe was its gilt bezel. Wonder how resale on the 58 would be now that the 54 appears to be a more refined with new subtle differences. Really want to make that switch. Thanks for the great comparative video.

I tried on the 54 but it looked too small. I own & prefer the 58. I also tried on the BB36 with sunburst blue dial. I would much prefer the BB36 over the 54. If you want simple, try on the discontinued 34mm Rolex Air King 114200 circa 2000. Wears the same as the new Explorer 36mm

@@MCK888Agree the 39mm of the 58 is the perfect contemporary size. The 54 looks larger on camera than in reality. Even with the fatter lugs it still looks small imo. I sat with it on my wrist at the Tudor boutique for 15 minutes. I just couldn't get over the fact. I think it's a fad. If your wrists are smaller than 16cm then the 54 may be best suited but for every one else it's more sensible to buy the classic 58 to avoid buyers remorse. I guarantee you if you buy the 54 you'll be constantly checking your wrists and the watch, not because of it's simplistic beauty but the consciousness and self doubt or justification that you are not wearing a ladies watch. Not only will you have a inferiority complex of wearing a poor man's Rolex but then you have the gender issue to contend with. Please consider thoughtfully when purchasing the 54. It may lead to psychological regret.

For me the 58 is more original, then the 54 with the snowflake hands and the red triangle. The 54 of course has a nicer crown, nicer bracelet clasp and nicer bezel ! But I prefer the BB 58 !
