I was diagnosed 1/18/1985, just a few weeks after my 17th birthday. Just had my 39th diaversary a few months ago. You wouldn't believe how technology changed since back then. There was no rapid onset insulins. Pumps were not commercially available until about 10 years later (and they were only for the rich, as insurance hadn't yet approved them). CGMs were a dream, a few decades from being available. No such thing as knowing what your blood sugar was 24/7. Test strips cost $1 each so you couldn't test as often as you wanted. Certainly no cell phones, wi-fi, internet, etc. I remember coming home from the hospital with a box of 100 syringes, thinking "this will last me a long time". Yeah, a few weeks later they are gone. Blood tests involving putting a drop of blood on a test strip that would change color, waiting a minute then rinsing it off with water, waiting another minute, then comparing it with a color chart on the test strip vial. You were lucky to "guess" within 100 points of your actual blood sugar. I didn't walk uphill in the snow both ways to school, BTW. I can only dream of how T1 care will be in the coming decades. Good luck to you and your T1 care!

Honest, I have had symptoms for 3 weeks now, so i'm pushing it off. What would your course of action be? Mind you it does not run in our family

This is late but you would check your blood glucose on a glucometer.
