  • There have been more than 560 mass shootings across the US so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are injured or killed.
    The United States has the highest number of mass shootings in the world.
    The BBC's Sumi Somaskanda explains the complex factors contributing to an increase in these incidents across the country.

      Because it is a lot harder to own a gun in other countries outside the US. For example in Japan to have a gun license (with a validity of 3 yrs) you need to pass a written & shooting test, police background checks, psychiatric & drug test clearance, register to the police the details of the weapon including where it's stored etc etc. Too much hassle/effort to own a gun, so the few civilians who do get a gun license are extremely careful and protective of this privilege

    • @delaney6413
      @delaney6413 7 месяцев назад

      It's important to remember here that Chicago is very close to two states that have relatively weak gun laws: Wisconsin and Indiana. So while it's easy to pick on Chicago (or any other high-crime city) for its ugly statistics, says one expert, taking bordering states into account weakens this gun-advocacy talking point.
      "It's not a scientific study. It's an anecdote," said Philip Cook, a professor of public policy studies at Duke University. "They might have pointed to Washington, D.C., back in the days when D.C. banned handguns and yet had high gun-violence rates. Those bans are only at best partially effective, because the borders are permeable."

The FBI numbers have been consistent for years at around 500 deaths with all long guns. The AR-15 related number is a subset of this 500. Focusing on the AR-15 hinders implementing solutions to the overall problem of increased violence in the US.

      knife crime going up in response to gun crime going down is a good outcome. Knife attacks are infinitely more survivable than gun attacks. For instance, the Slenderman stabbing victim was stabbed 19 times in the throat and survived. Getting shot 19 times in the neck is not realistically survivable. Gun wounds are hard to stop from bleeding while knife wounds tend to be much easier to work with since the knife can be left in. I'd rather get attacked with a knife than shot. Stabbings do not have the trauma that bullets do. Guns also mean they can kill from a distance. Knives mean the guy has to get close to you, giving you a fighting chance.

    I can tell you this much, the answer to this question CAN NOT be answered in a 2 minute video. Socioeconomics is such a complex and multifaceted topic that you couldn't even begin to skim the surface if you presented an hour long lecture. People always want to look for one, easy to see, singular cause to explain things like this. But that's rarely how it works. It's like the story about how World War I started because a Serbian named Gavrillo Princip assasinated Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand II. There's a popular story about how Gavrillo intended to assasinate the Archduke in a public appearance, but missed his chance. So he went to a nearby deli for a sandwich and while eating, the Archduke happened to pass right in front of the deli, allowing Princip the opportunity to assasinate him. Which a lot of people point to as the cause of the war. Completely ignoring all of the politics leading up to WHY he was assasinated and WHY it was such a big deal as to cause a war, at the very least. Never mind the other contributing factors.

      The mass shooting epidemic is real - not scaremongering.

    Love how everyone jumps to the "ban guns" conclusion while completely ignoring the lack of deterrence, mental health, and proliferation of criminal sub-cultures problems... Here in Canada we don't have mass shooting but instead have mass stabbings.... It's not guns that are the problem, just like its not knives that are the problem, it's a combination of a lack of deterrence, consequence, mental health help, and the promoting of criminal sub-cultures. Just look at the locations where these mass shootings all take place, most of them are "Gun free" zones where the shooter can go and be relatively confident that no one will be able to shoot back. In contrast there's the incident in a mall a short while back where a mass shooter was stopped by a citizen who was concealed carrying.

      @@unacceptablefringe7508 Poor you, being all disturbed like that! Since no one did actually mention banning guns here, I got the impression that you’ve worked out just the one thing to say and are going to say it no matter what, even if it’s not applicable, But, as you say, I’m not too bright. And you’re disturbed. 🤣🤣🤣

      @@CensortubesI think you'd better watch it again and write down the number of times the word "ban" is used along with the context in which it is used, and then revisit your opinion about this video being "about banning guns alone". Actually, you also might want to look up "psychological projection" for help with this obsession with other people's IQs. Enjoy!

    Grenade attack are also on the Rise in Sweden the country which has one of the strictest Gun Laws, also once safest country Sweden is now bombing capital of Europe, and also countries like Belgium and Netherlands both of which also have strict gun laws are now both NARCO states and are been taken over by Moroccan Mafia (Mocro Mafia).
    And in England itself which also has strict Gun laws, knife crime is also rising and is at all time high.

      knife crime going up in response to gun crime going down is a good outcome.
