How to connect delay/effects to Tascam Model 12: Aux 1 and Sub-Output

- When I first got the Tascam Model 12 ,I wanted to run effects through it. Naturally after some time I wanted more sends, so I figured to utilize the sub out put of the Tascam Model 12( as seen in my oldest video at a recording studio). With proper gain staging , it is just a matter of some connections. At first I did not know the difference between balanced and unbalanced cables. I experimented by connecting anything I could get my hands on at first.
Aux 1- When you run a delay out of the aux outputs you essentially have a Wet/Dry knob that mixes the affected signal. You can feed back the delay on itself by turning the aux knob on the return channel ( Big thank you to Dub Cavern Mikey for the knowledge ! ( DANGER/CAUTION/PELIGROSO this creates a feedback loop which can destroy the gear and more importantly your health/ears) when in doubt lower all faders, turn off speakers and then the unit if in doubt. Disconnect all effects.
Sub-Output - When you run effects out of the sub, the master volume is controlled by the Sub-output fader. The effects still has to be returned to a channel on the model 12. The "sub" button is in-between the " main" and "solo" button. Each channel has the grey, 3 row, square selection. When pressed in it is %100 wet , unlike the AUX knob, there is no blending or control, but alas, the fader can be used to manipulate the feeding back. It is common to ride the fader through out the performance bring in and out the dub element of the hard echoes or whatever you choose to connect.
Big thank you for watching and please feel to leave any feedback. My speech isn't all the best but my heart and sentiment is in the right place! dub on.

Cool video! I see you’ve figured out how to customize the knobs and sliders on the M12. I’ve seen quite a few people on forums wondering how to do this (the knobs seem to be tighter than on other mixers). I’m sure a how-to video on this topic would be widely appreciated, not just by me. Keep it up!
@@lugentaubner6853 @joshbigears was the first I saw his faders different colors. That inspired me to take off the knobs. I would make a video
But am scared someone out there is going to break their model 12 , I would hate to influence that. I used a spoon to slide it under the lnob and help pry it up. As you go undoing the knobs you’ll see the whole board move. It is best to
Be gentle . Let me see if I can make a video with a warning. Big thanks 🙏
Thanks for this. I also figured out the use of sub, which is really handy!
I do own a re-amp box but haven't used it in front of the pedals... I'm lazy and just connect sub or aux directly to the pedal. I guess I should compare.
Overall, I LOVE the model 12... EXCEPT for all the inputs located at the rear of the mixer...
Big thanks for your time to watch and for the comment! definitely give it a shot with the re amp box and some gain staging. It's funny the 16 and 24 made me anxious because I felt like I was going to trip over a cable and break the inputs. Definitely model 12 for live setting is cool, if someone wraps up in the cable , , the cable flies out , no harm, hopefully! big thanks again!
just figured out a way to send an ipad usb-c signal into the model 12, out through fx (thanks to this video) back into the tascam and back into the ipad without a feedback loop. using 1&2 pc mode for ipad sound faders at 0, sound from ipad to 7/8 input for clean channel. out the aux 1 to a chase bliss pedal TS, back into channel 6 for fx channel. goes back into the ipad using 1&2 and the the monitor on ipad as channel 3 with no volume since you are using headphones on the model 12. allows recording on the ipad and model 12 at the same time and you can screen record also but of course the audio is not in the screen recording. thanks for posting, the ah moment would not have happened otherwise. almost sold the mixer this week for this reason
@@michaelnervOus dude that signal flow sounds awesome , big thanks for explaining it . I have just started messing with logic and the model 12 recently. First time switching pc mode on the three way selector 😵💫 I am glad this helped out thank you for taking your time to check it out!
@@Tomalo-Dub That is great that you are getting to use hat feature, it is quite handy. Logic on Ipad or Mac?
I did record a video on the setup for recording into the ipad from a synth in the ipad out the model 12 through fx and back into the ipad with no feedback loop. it's not a thought out video, just me on the phone showing the setup. it would work with logic as well
@@Tomalo-Dub I put a link on my channel (last video) to this video. Thanks again for explaining your setup. my setup is quite different but something in your video made me think of it while watching. I had given up on the 12 and thought it was just not possible to loop to an ipad.
@@michaelnervOus going to be on a 2020 MacBook for now. The iPad idea seems awesome. I originally made dub on my iPhone about 4 years ago using GarageBand
Where did you get the fader knobs?.. I have been looking and only found white and red... thanks for vid.. i just got the model 12 and looking foreward to experimenting..
Cool video
