- On November 23, 1996, three hijackers took over Ethiopian Airlines 961 and attempted to divert the plane. Eventually, it ran out of fuel, forcing the captain to attempt a dangerous ocean landing, known as “ditching.”

You kinda feel relaxed when you see the flight crew or passenger or someone who was on the plane is getting interviewed, then you know that there were survivors.
@@VicenzoV Yeah… that’s really kinda sad
@@VicenzoV damn that sounds like a horrible way to die!
Who is kinda
I think plane engine ran out of fuel and the attitudes were shaking
@@shireennazirali392 yesh, cuz the hijacker wouldnt listen to the pilots telling them they didnt have fuel to go to australia like he wanted. He demanded they turn away from land and go to australia. Good news, the hijackers died in the crash
Check out the Wikipedia article on this hijacking. The pilot and co-pilot were heroes who desperately fought against these crazed hijackers in the final moments of the flight to try and ensure at least some people could survive. Their names deserve mentioning. For the record the pilot and co-pilot were Leul Abate and Yonas Mekuria. Thanks to them 50 people lived. Total respect. (Glad the hijackers were NOT among the survivors). Incredibly, Leul Abate had experienced TWO previous hijackings as a pilot before this one. Poor guy...
Yikes 😬 I bet he probably quit his job immediately after that crash heroes For saving those people
@@zeekleek4402 no actually he continued working for Ethiopian Airlines (until he retired i think)
So many people died from hijackings in the 1900s. It was 9/11 that really shook up the world and woke them up to the dangers of it. Only after 9/11 did they put mechanisms to stop it.
Many more could have survived but chose to ignore the repeated commands not to deploy their life vests until they have escaped the aircraft. So buoyancy trapped them in a sinking cabin and they drowned.
It's ridiculous that it took all the way until 9/11 for airport security to toughen. Hijacking was so common before 9/11, you would have thought something would have been done sooner to stop it from happening...
Seriously, have come across so many plane hijacking, don't know why airport authority were so complacent about security
Just watching this gives me the chills and the captian survived
Very good job fellows!! It’s amazing though how the pilot managed to survive.
And his copilot.. sadly he tried to save many lives the could but nope...
Excellent piloting under the highest of pressures!
Why did he ditch at such an angle ?
@@brandonwear9081 He was turning so that the plane would hit the water parallel to the waves instead of perpendicular to them
@@notsocooldude7720 that is legendary
The pilot must be living with so much guilt that he couldn't save everyone. I hope he knows it's not his fault and he did the best he could.
Living with guilt? Why?? He didn’t cause the crash. It was the idiotic hijackers

I remember flying Ethiopian Airlines 707 met the Captain we stopped over in Abu Dhabi good memories.
I always imagine myself sitting in all the planes that crash on this channel 😂
Me too .. I'm always trying to save my daughters in every crash! 🥴
Yeah
😁
May ur wish come true
With this one I was almost going with it 🏃🏿♀️ but thank God I survived am here still 🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely insane
I hope the pilot knows he tried his best to save everyone, he really did 😢
“We’ll talk when I get there.”
*Well that escalated quickly*
it is just sad how only one person could make 125 people die
50 people survived
and it was 3 hijackers
That 1 sec of him not focusing on the airport. Cost 125 lives...
@@muhammadomer4674 it wasn’t the pilots fault. He was trying to not be attacked by hijackers

This seem like just yesterday, I remember seeing this on TV when I was 12yo! What a tragic event! The captiain and his first officer were amazing! He saved move lives with is skill! How it broke like that and still some survivors!

It’s animation

Right?
Very good job!
2:07 thats a criminal
Sad how most could have survived the landing except they inflated their life jackets before being in the water and all drowned in the cabin😢
Bro, WTH is this CGI? I’ve never saw a 767 looking like that 😂 Anyways great vid
20 years is the difference between 220 lines of center resolution in analog to 8k UHD, digital, just wait 'til we have the generation that wears a quantum computer in their body.
@@htos1av the thing is, the cgi in the previous seasons were much better.
@@vexyleaf7919 It's a Canadian TV show meant to run at a schedule. So I imagine this episode got shafted in the CGI department because unlike many other crashes, they knew this crash had actual footage, so they decided to spend time on the other episodes and simply use the footage for this one.
@@Alb410 Ok i get why the cgi is kinda bad thank you
@@vexyleaf7919 this episode is from an old season, recent seasons have much better looking graphics
HERO !!
I was thinking what those homies were doing there next to the pilot 🤣 i thought he picked them up on the way and they thought it’s a good idea to rob the pilot🧐 crazy world man🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The 3 hijackers died in this disaster. This is like suicide.
Thank god they died, Its just unfortunate the pain didnt last longer for them.

O my god The plane Hijack Really???
Yes
uh yes
ET has a appalling safety record.
Avoid Ethiopian Airlines.
the pilot tried a controlled landing on water that’s why I think this happend
Engeener Airplane should made an Airplane that can land on the Ocean also
Agreed but thats impossible unfortunately unless its a seaplane
They are designed to make water landings.
seaplanes/flying boats exist, but they cost more to make and are less aerodynamic.
So many variables
@@cityplanner3063 Not exactly. There's 0 variables because they are designed for ditching.

What about mohammed amin? After they lost fuel and engines turned off captain managed to command everyone to attack and disable the 3 hijackers. No one did shit. Except Mo, a guy that previously lost his left arm. If everyone stood up they couldve all survived.

3 hijackers didnt survive to watch this video
Ok I get this is irrelevant but GOD DAMN that aircraft looks nothing like a Boeing 767

Air Canada ? I think that was not a Boeing 737; wasn't than an Airbus?
idk if this is a joke or not, but the narrator clearly said 767
@@moonrust4939 Sorry, that was a typing mistake… I did mean Boeing 767 not 737. But I was under impression that AC Flight 143 was an Airbus not Boeing so I was just asking that. Yes, Gimli Glider was a Boeing 767-233.

Way before Sully and this pilot was hijacked too
ethiopian air is landing at water 😂
Not funny
And this is an exhibition of the power of God and the power of time. In a unfathomable way, he gathered 125 people in one aircraft and put some bad guys therein just for them to demise in their minute. Sad. May their souls Rest In Peace. Those whose time was not up had to make it out whatever the circumstances would have turned out to be like. God’s things.
That's why I don't want to travel in plane

How did other pilot landed in Hudson Bay , his trining school might be better then Ethiopian training
Because the A320 helped the captain keep it within its flight envelope. They also had fuel which meant the APU could run so they basically had everything except engines.
The 767 in this case had no fuel which meant controlling the plane was super hard (like lose of power steering in a car). Captain could only fly on small standby instruments and hijacker’s.
