This guy called it right, yeah 10 years later this game is 100% a classic that will be talked about for many many years to come.
This “guy” is one if the best video games reviewer ever, Kevin VanOrd!!!
Completely agree with D-Man. I grew up reading Kevin VanOrd's reviews and he's by far the best for me that my own writing style is heavily influenced by him. One of the last reviews he's given is the Witcher 3 where he gave it a perfect score. That was unforgettable. He's now working as a game designer for the team that made Divinity Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. Crazy amazing guy.
@@MrSiloterio it’s cool that a lot of these old reviewers end up becoming really good game designers just from the knowledge they gained critiquing games. Greg Kasavin stands out as well.
It has created a genre.
It's truely a masterpiece. A real game? Without handholding every 10 seconds? You gotta actually use your head meat in combat and exploring and stuff? Damn, didn't think it was possible on this last generation with all the mainstream crap we get. Well, here it is. I regret not getting it sooner.
The best part about it: it caught on. Granted, most publishers/developers learned "we need to make our games harder' but then again a lot of them can be kind of thick, so I'm not surprised they didn't get the message.
But think about this: Sony is making a big deal about Bloodborne being a PS4 exclusive, THEY KNOW we love this series.
New Call of Duty generation of gamers? Anyone can play anything they want. Just because someone likes shooters doesn't mean they're unable to play games with a learning curve, making a statement like that is simply stating that your not a gamer. Why? Because it's statements like that which ruin most gaming communities.
Your basically stating that those who start in one genre are unable to branch out to another. Gamer is a gamer, doesn't matter what you play. It's how you define yourself.
I grew up playing strategy games. On my windows 98, than when games started truly evolving from something that wasn't found in an arcade or local pizza place. We changed to something new. I discovered Role playing games, I discovered counter strike, and halo.
Doesn't mean I wasn't still attached to my original bond of RTS and turn base combat of other games. But I play what I play, and people like you! can't tell me nor anyone else what our skill set is based off, because we enjoy games you simply do not.
Just because someone is a fan of genre or a game set in a genre different from that of a cruel penalty style rpg that is Dark Souls. Doesn't in anyway insinuate that they're unable to learn, or incapable of succeeding at the game.
Stop being egotistical and biased; I am sure you chose that game franchise because you dislike it. I am sure you chose those group of people because you see what that game represents.
Every game requires some ounce of skill. Some more than others, every game has penalty.. which again some are crueler then others.
Turns out the best game I ever played I got free off xbox gold. Huh.
Lol, same thing with my friend :)
+PandaMofo does your friend happen to have a gamer tag of Behindtheselies?
nah, MiniGrisini or something ;D
Yeah thats how I discovered it too then I bought it at game stop it was basically new even still had the seal on the side someone's frustration equalled my near mint come up haha
Shrew Boy same bro
best game i have ever played in 25 years of gaming.
@Aaron9 Can you please give me examples of better games.
One of the best and more artístical, there are many other clásics better at the respective age, Zelda games various, Perfect Dark, Street Fighter 2, Resident Evil 2 and 4, Rome Total War, Super Mario 64 around the same quality Metal Gear Solid, Starcraft BW, Final Fantasy VII, FfXvIII, Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, FZero GX, Silent Hill.
@@GamerFiT007 I will just take Resident Evil 2, Super Mario 64 and the Witcher 3 as best games
@@GamerFiT007 Fallout 4? Your opinion and all but really?
@@GamerFiT007 X'D
None of those shit games are fit to lick Dark Souls boots.
Those games are for kids and autists.
GOTY of 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Pick it up without hesitation, if you want a fantasy game that wont hold your hand trough quick time events. You will need to mod (read as fix) the PC version tho.
Yeah, but I think it's worth it. (fixing the PC version I mean) Even though I play the console versions.
I had a funny relationship with this game. I bought it, played it a few hours got frustrated and traded it in. A couple years later one of my buddies lent the game to me again and urged me to at least try to progress farther so I did, and man did I love it. That feeling of overcoming every challenge and getting further and more skilled was second to none. In no other game do you feel so hopeless and weak only to later on feel like a bad ass that can handle any challenge thrown to you.
+SuperReno3 Well said my friend!
That's what happened to me :)
In your first playtrough how far did you go?
@@MaQuGo119 Like a lot ppl who quit. I got to Ornstein and Smough
This game is honestly one of the best games I've ever played.
I am honestly one of the worst gamers this game has ever been played by.
Jack McGee
Don't worry, it took me about 50 hours to get to the final boss on my first playthrough, so you're not alone.
Thank god, I'm 20 hours Into the game and I'm already at Anor Londo. I'm hearing people say that the game is 70-80 hours long and I've gotten most of the items too :p if you beat it on 50 hours then I know I'm going at a reasonable pace :D
Zargo manepheline
And currently, if I wanted, I could beat the game in about 15 hours if I play normally, or less if I just run through everything.
Arexion5293
Yeah, right now I'm thinking the same as you mate :p
Greatest game of last gen. 10/10
I really regret not playing this game sooner. I completed it about a month ago and it was by far one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had!
I was so afraid to play this game due to alot of people saying how unforgiving and difficult it was. It really put me off buying it considering the fact that I'm a very short tempered person that once headbutted a wall and gave myself a concussion over getting commando knifed in mw2. But a while back I bought bloodborne which I didn't even know was made by the same dev team as dark souls until a friend told me. Bloodborne kicked my ass but it left me wanting more. So I said that I must playthrough the rest of the souls games before the release of dark souls 3. Unfortunately I couldn't find a copy of demon's souls anywhere but I managed to get this game. As with bloodborne, dark souls kicked my ass.... Only it kicked my ass 10 times harder. Blighttown, Sen's Fortress, The anor Londo archers and Ornstein and Smough all nearly made me give up hope of ever beating dark souls. But once I did overcome those obstacles, it was the most satisfying thing ever!
I'm currently almost finished playing through dark souls 2 and unfortunately, that game is real let down when compared to this game. Hell, dark souls 2 is a really good game, but I'm not nearly enjoying it as much as dark souls 1.
You can buy demons sous digitally on the PSN store! But it's a PS3 exclusive so you're out of luck if you're using Xbox
+Nick Ando I'm on ps3 so I might pick it up if I ever get the chance :)
+CoNoRmAcC I feel ya brother. Game on!
+CoNoRmAcC I started with Bloodborne, got a platinum trophy. Now I'm playing DS2 and then planning on playing DS1
Luckily for you, me, and the rest of us, Dark Souls 3 is the rightful successor to Dark Souls. It's brilliant.
This game is a masterpiece. I remember having bloodshot eyes, no sleep for 26 hours and extreme paranoia after i fell into that pit in the sewer with the curse frogs, killing them in one shot, but almost dying due to my curse meter being high. Then i met the gaping dragon, i have only like 10 HP remaining, no estus. This game delivered the purest, most thrilling adrenaline rush that video games have to offer. I ended up killing the boss on my first attempt, but only because this game taught me that death meant that i would have to start all the way at firelink shrine.
You wanna know if video games are an artform? Play this game instead of the mediocre quicktime event interactive movie casul bullshit.
10/10
Didn't you find the bonfire in the depth?
EXPAND DEATH
I think there's a master key in that secret room below the elevator at firelink.
a much better review than IGN's by far...
picked this up on steam sale for $5. Best $5 i ever spent
I love this game. As much as you can potentially die, and as unforgiving as it is. When you make it through this game, you can actually get a sense of accomplishment. This game you can actually fall off cliffs where other games you're prevented from it.
accomplishment of becoming a brave warrior.
+Tim S It's not just the sense of accomplishment; it's the experience. The difficulty makes you feel the hardship and grit of the journey your character makes.
+Tim S Dark Souls needs a Kaizo hack
It bothers me how they completely forgot to mention the INSANE depth of story which lies in every npc / most bosses which tie into the storyline and meanings as a whole!
Also no pausing
Well if they do that they would kinda tell spoilers...
***** say that the story his deep and hidden, think for a second
wese3000 When the review came out the game was still brand new. It took loads of time for the community to uncover most of the lore
I love those review with enthusiasm:)
Thats the prologue song to the game. The one that plays during the cutscene in the beginning. And if you want to find the names of the songs, the names are the names of the area or boss it plays at.
Im here because of dark souls remastered
I've played this game a lot, and by a lot, I mean hundreds of hours. I'm excited for the release of it's squeal in a few days here, but I've notice something every time I play this game. I've seen everything it has and gone everywhere you can go in the game, but every time I pick up the controller I feel like there's still so much I don't know about Dark Souls. It feels like an adventure every time I play it, it's the best experience I've had playing video games. Some people may think it's a little overrated, but Dark Souls make me happy, so I think it's pretty damn cool.
That's my exact Same experience! I bought the game last month and already put in 150 hours in the game! and I seen everything but I just want to keep playing !:D
I actually like how soothing his voice is, LOL I play it (his reviews) as background sound when I work
I Love this reviewer. He's so Well Spoken, Makes the Video so Interesting and intriguing
What an amazing review. This makes me proud to say I am a Dark Souls fan.
Kevin Van Ord, from what I heard, Is a writer for Larian now...thats a good fit for him. I miss his reviews though, lol.
@WillGrazill
That would be Domhnall of Zena, a merchant at the entrance to Blighttown. He sells unique armour depending on your actions throughout the game. If you kill Gwyndolin, his robes are available. Depending on which man you kill last, Ornstein and Smough's armour becomes available. Entering NG+ let's Gwyn's armor become available. Finally, killing the Iron Golem will allow his armour to be bought. He also sells his own armour and a few helpful tips.
Plus, that one line he says wheneve
Congratulations on 1,000,000 subscribers :)
One of the greatest games of all time without a doubt the atmosphere challenge and epic weapons and accomplishment make it so
Am I the only one that enjoys Dark Souls more than Bloodborne
Johanan A Guzman-Ramirez No your not the only one.
I liked bloodborne but there isnt enough replayability like dark souls
Sunwakka Thats its only problem to, literally its only problem the game play is fun as hell the enemy's and lv design amazing, the bosses are a tad easy but i chalk that up to me being used to these games having put hundred of hours in all the other titles. ITs only major fault is its lack of variety when it comes to builds and customization to little weapons to little unique armor. It made me give up on the game half way through my 2nd play through as i had felt like i was doing the same thing as my first. Real shame :\
BioLink Feel the same way. The game seems more like miazaki is expirimenting with different themes.
+Johanan A Guzman-Ramirez there carbon copy anyways
Actually, there's a bit of a shortcut there; if you look closely when in the menus, there's a button (on PS3 I think it's square) that will change the display from icons and stats to a text explanation of what everything does, gear and stats wise. HUGE help...but as for certain gameplay mechanics remaining hidden until you look for them, yep, that's intentional. From Software wanted you to explore and research their world. This is one of the most incredible games I've ever played.
If you get it for PC, you can download an addon to the Dark Souls fix called Dark Souls Connecting fix or something, DSCfix for short. Basically, what it does is it prioritizes joining people in your Games For Windows Live friend's list before others, given that you are within each other's level range of joining. DSfix and DSCfix are very easy to download and install, and I strongly encourage you to do it regardless, as it fixes certain framerate issues aswell.
2:50damn lol
Rrrrrrrrright up the ass
lol I was think the same thing
You think it was easy for any of us? Believe in yourself and become immersed and fully focused and even if it takes you a month to pass one part it will just be that more rewarding not only the completion but also all the tiny things you would find after being in that area and if you somehow manage to beat the game (first playthrough 150h+) then you can go to NG+ with your character your so proud of and find it a little easier and start to understand what your doing wrong, and even find more valuables. I tossed my first character because I understood that how I leveled was wrong and I rushed through it to quick, and if you say "ohhh 150 hours I don't have that time" save it do it over a year and maybe just maybe you will be ready for the even more challenging Dark Souls 2. This game will break you mentally and make you a more understanding, patient person with actual depth in there life. Look I was just like you then this game this other world became part of my life, don't let this amazing game pass through please devote enough time to just ring the two bells play as a human get invaded and realize its not just you playing a level its you and five hundred others together on this level sharing the same pain and helping or tricking one another, even as much to invade another's world. This is the best game I've ever played in the last eight years of gaming DO NOT LET THIS PASS PLEASE.
Or you could move on and get on with your life...
MrShmango01 hes right, man. Its a pretty fucking epic game. I just beat it for the first time last night and it does make you feel like part of an elite crowd. Its also oone of the most meticulously crafted and well designed game in years.
MrShmango01 I thrive on a challenge, try mixing this world with yours and never give up, and maybe just maybe you can beat it.
Games can be more then just games, I viewed it as another world bounded to this path and it didn't matter if I progressed it just mattered that I was there.
***** I like lives that don't require waking up 365*X times, until you wake up just right.
Your logic amuses me, it's the repeating part that is the journey, and it'
s the journey that counts.
Why is repeating stuff good? I'll give you an answer - When you defeat something, it becomes boring, all of a sudden, since you know you have beaten it, you become impatient, and will eventually stop playing.
Great review!
this is one of the best reviews of this game by official gaming sites. the review and video really capture the atmosphere and essence better than other's "cough IGN cough". Kevin is one of my favorite reviewers from any site and always does great work.
Just started playing this today - wish me luck!
Good luck and have fun! This is one of the best games you'll ever play!
Popcorn897 thanks - those spear skeletons tho! 😬 any tips?
Well for dark souls in general, I guess just don't be afraid to try new things. If you are struggling, try out a new weapon or playstyle. Also, blocking is really really strong. you can block most things in the game. If you can't block, dodge! And don't forget to upgrade your weapons! some advice for the spear hollows, if you're still there, try a jumping attack or kicking their shield away. Best of luck, don't you dare go hollow!
Popcorn897 I think I've wasted my money on this and DS2. I'm finding it quite difficult which results in repetitive gameplay which results in boredom. 4 hours so far and only 1 boss killed and I've been doing the same thing now for the lasts 2 hours! Oh well...at least I tried but I don't think it's for me.
If you bought them on steam, there's always the chance for a refund. A big part of me wants to tell you not to give up, but I do understand it's not for everyone. Keep in mind you've only seen a tiny fraction of this enormous game and it gets MUCH better than the beginning areas. Also remember that there are stronger weapons out there. If the difficulty is what's stopping you, just look up "how to get the zweihander ds1" or "how to get the drake sword ds1". they're both early game weapons that are really strong and could help you get through it. And don't get discouraged by death! You die, you learn, and you improve. That's the nature of the game. Hopefully you don't end up refunding or giving up on the game, I really mean it when I say it's one of the best games ever made.
For 360 users. Dark Souls is free at some point in June, if you have an Xbox live Gold account. Along with Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition.
Yeah it's pretty cool i've wanted to play this game for a while and if I like it i'll probably get Dark Souls 2.
Francisco Trejo Yeah, same here. I've been wanting to try Dark Souls for a while, but people always said it's a game I wouldn't care for, so I didn't wanna spend the money on it. Now I can try it for free. And like you, if I like the game I'll probably end up buying Dark Souls 2 at some point.
That's Quelaag's Sister, often called the Fair Lady. After the boss Chaos Witch Quelaag, the boss in Blighttown, there's the bell, and below is the path down to Demon Ruins. Before going down to Demon Ruins, there's a secret passage, you need to hit some wall for it to appear. There you can find this creature. It's connected to the Chaos Covenant.
First time in a long time that I actually like gamespots review
Dragon Age, Skyrim & Dark Souls best RPGs ever made!
Dragon age inquisition*
Thomas Van Pelt : lol no.
origins was good, inquisition was better
Witcher 2 > *insert any* Dragon Age game, Morrowind > Skyrim, but I agree with Dark Souls.
Witcher 2 SUCKED!
OUUUCHHH @2:51 :)
Your picture makes me want to go rewatch Kaiji right now :D
This is a excellent review!
I have a question should I pay for dark souls 2 or just get the first dark souls free
Get the first one free, see if you like it, if you do buy the second one.
Thanks
Implantedclub have you beaten both? I wanna know if this one is as long as dark souls 2
Gabe M
It's actually longer. Dark Souls 2 set you on multiple paths, each one different in difficulty, but then narrows it halfway through into one single, equally awesome but much longer path.
Dark Souls 1 on the other hand, sets you on 2 paths, narrows you to 1 for a short time, then branches out to 6 different paths, 7 if you have the Prepare To Die edition, with the Artorias Of The Abyss DLC
Many say Dark Souls 1 is better than 2, but I'd say they're both as good as each other, and both worth a playthrough. And I wouldn't worry about multiplayer, theres still tonnes of people playing, even this long after its release
Gabe M
One last thing to note is that unlike Dark Souls 2, the story and lore of DS1 is well hidden. It's just lying, waiting to be found by the player who pays attention. I'd recommend subscribing to VaatiVidya and watching his Dark Souls Lore series, it'll give you a good, detailed insight into the story, and as long as you only watch videos relating to characters you've met in game, its spoiler free
"8/10 too hard" -IGN
LQ TV most original unique comment I have ever seen...
This guy really captures the soul of this game in this review. Its hard to describe dark souls greatness but he comes as close as possible. Great review.
Great review.
reading the comments, I can see everybody comparing this game with skyrim. That's just wrong, please stop it. They are different games, with different purposes. Dark souls is for those who want challenge and exitement, Skyrim is for those who want a game with everything, and focus on the bigger picture.
AMAZING GAME!!!! I started about a month or two ago & I'm at SL 30. I am now totally ADDICTED! I love the exploration, combat, challenge, discovery etc. It's easily one of the best RPGs EVER along with Skyrim, KoA:Reckoning & Dragons Dogma. It's not only one of the best "RPGs" ever, but one of the BEST "games" ever!!
I FINALLY found another unique masterpiece like: American McGee's Alice & Hunted: The Demon's Forge!!! XD
I have to agree with this man right here, I bought this during the steam winter sale for PC, it was a tough bitch to get started, since I needed DSfix, DSMfix, and DSCfix installed and modified in order to get the game running smoothly, but I can tell you this, it sure was worth it!
Watching Lobosjr play challenge runs is fascinating, since you can't do anything like what that guy and more like him does, even if you've already completed the game once or on NG+.
Tyiriel LobosJr is awesome! He's insane. I've played Dark Souls on xbox for 200 hours and on PC for 60 hours and I am no where as good as him. DSFix is almost required for PC.
its a bit like that, but bosses sually have a checkpoint about 1-3 mins back. Some have slightly longer like the 4 Lords at the end of the game, but you can retrack really easy cause you can open shortcuts if u look for them
What's the sword the character has at the beginning? Not sure I have it yet.
DS will make you a better gamer period
+millionseas It actually taught me better anger control, I went from screaming and throwing shit to groaning and trying again, one of the best games out there.
+Jack NO! I tend to be the same way; very short tempered and frustrates easily. DS helped me too with anger management and most importantly: patience. Cheers!
it probably made me worse
This is so accurate. It really teaches you perseverance. This series is simply one of the best of not the best of all time.
Well said Sir
bloodborne hype
dark souls 3 hype
Ringed city dlc hype!
Sekiro hype
Elden Ring hype!
You know, that is one of the best and most accurate comparisons I have seen be made.
are there any outstanding technical problems for the PS3 ? Freezes, low frame rate etc?
Ok, so I like this game, I just recently got it but I had to take a break from it just now. It certainly lives up to its hype in terms of it being a very difficult game. Im going to have to farm souls to get uncursed, find another ember to level up my items and armor, and hopefully be able to make it to blight town. It will take time... I just want one more achievement for encouragement... I only have 75 gamer score.. Yes this is me venting... 19 hours in.. You see what this game will do to you?
so people keep saying this game is hard. I don't understand. I have been reading tons of forums and no one says it was easy. My first play through I beat it in 6 hours. 6 HOURS for 60 bucks??? fuck that. I really don't think this game is hard at all. It was literally one of the easiest games I have played in a while. I really want someone to help me understand why it is so hard. If you want a hard game, play tales of symphonia on insane mode. It takes an hour alone to get past the first bad guy (the tutorial bad guy). Yes a baddy from a tutorial. This game is fun, just way to easy.
I don't think it would be $60 in 2014, Actually googling it, Its about $20 right now. And its hard for casuals and assholes who think that xx420blazeitbroxx is clever
Obviously a troll. You didn't clear it in 6 hours.
Lord Proctor Yeah only speedrunners have ever done that, And that's with a lot of glitches and such.
Lord Proctor I did. All you have to literally do is run throuhg it and just kill the bosses. Figuring out the map isnt hard, no matter what direction you go you always end up at the shrine.
Jacob McBride
actually speed runners do it in like 2 hours. there is a guy called lobosjr (his youtube name) and he does it with only melee and only ranged, no armor, only starting weapon etc and the longest it has ever taken him was 5 hours. He even said, in an ign interview, that his first play through only took him 6 hours. I read that and I just thought it was normal. Sorry it took you guys so long :(
What's the music called at the start of the review? I love this game and want to find the music itself but don't know the name of it - or if it is indeed even from the game. I'm currently fighting the Hydra and so far havn't heard it in the game.
If you had to choose, which should I get - this or Demon's Souls?
The souls series wouldn t have existed without Zelda.
The Souls series was heavily inspired by the manga Berserk.
what?
Arthur Fernandes : agree with you man, mostly the old zelda games..
Kids.. Souls series is based on old king field series of fromsoftware, same concepts but enhanced for modern gaming.
THIS GAME IS NOT WORTH THE $5 ITS GOING FOR ON XBOX LIVE.
graphics are bad. they would be ok but such huge framerate issues it affects the gameplay.
WAY to hard. not rewarding enough for the slow rate of progression ( you'll just be running past enemies time and time again as they respawn with every death or game save.
No real Coop
many things that remind me of elder scrolls oblivion follies. such as needing to hit enemies 20 times before they die and only needing to be hit by them once to die.
BAAAAAD Game
What are you casual?
Filthy Casul. You need to think, you need pacience, you need..SKILLS!That´s why you hate it.
This game is trully great, only huge time stupid players say such thing.
it is worth the 5$$. This game is amazing if u like a challenge
I can understand the frame-rate issues, but the silent co-op is intentional. The game isn't about graphics, it's about gameplay mechanics. And I have had no experience with frame-rate except for ONE location, so I think you're just bitching. You usually just hit enemies 3-5 times to kill, unless they're a boss or you're bad at leveling your character.
Jonnyjy A lot of free time is what you need! Buying this game makes you single, poor and unfit. Don't buy it, run outdoors and do some cool stuff! 'Rewarding' is a word some people linked to this game to feel better for the amount of time they spent getting assf*ucked while playing it! Just having a laugh, by the way, don't get too nerdy about this...
should I get this or the prepare to die edition?
Also, is there any way to actually pause the game? Both the "Start" and "Back" bring up menus, but doesn't actually pause the game.
What is that soundtrack with that awesome violin from like 2:00 - 3:10?
Darude - Sandstorm
Gonna assume you haven't played the game since you hear this song a lot when you play. Its from the Firelink Shrine section.
Swickful
^this Firelink Shrine theme
I shed tears Everytime I hear it
Incredible analogy!
same was as I felt while playing new vegas on hardcore but once I got good weapons and armor it got much easier its just u got to take baby steps until ur all set
I have to admit, this game is tough but so much fun, and I like how Kevin keeps bringing up the responsive controls, this game handles better then any other sword and magic game i've ever played, going from this to Skrim (as an example) is like going from Photoshop to Paint. it's not a hack and slash it's a think and slash game. one of my favorite games ever.
Does this game lets you interact with other NPC ? and have a BOND or are the Battle Mechanic are all there is to it ??
also is deamon souls pretty good? gameplay and graphics quality wise?
I want to get this but should I get Demon's Souls first?
I still say you should give it a shot. I'm the same way with a lot of games, but I bought Demon's Souls with the knowledge that I was going to die a lot. Since I went through the game expecting to fail at any moment, it honestly prevented me from raging at all. The bloodstains left on the ground by other players also help encourage you by showing you that you're not the only one who's died in that spot countless times, and hints left by other players also help you better your chances.
I play a game like that. I seen it in my sleep, I heard the music of the game when I was awoke. I'd walk into the room and the system wasn't even on. It called out to me. I wasn't the only one this game had a grip on. Everyone in the household was affected. And not only that all my friends I showed this game to was affected. We all had to play it. It had a hold on us. Come to thing of it, it was kind of hypnotic. No it was kind of scary. I still own the game and play it from time to time, but the grip is gone. That game is Tetrisphere on the N64. It's a great game, very fun. Give it a shot if you can find it.
What's the difference between the old edition and the Prepare To Die edition?
Well my Logitech has the same layout and similar size to the PS3 controller, so that wasn't so big a deal. Like I say my main issue was the use of the shoulder buttons as attack and defense. Most games don't make frequent use of the shoulder buttons, controllers are generally designed around emphasis on the thumbs, so it's just very awkward to try to get accustomed to. Also, it doesn't help that character response is usually pretty sluggish. The game isn't bad, just the controls I don't like.
What is that at 3:46?! I have been everywhere, millions of times, don't remember that guy. Anyone knows?
Would love a remastered port of this on PS4! All the souls games are amazing (including Bloodborne ofcourse) however for me there's something extremely special about Dark Souls 1!
What did you think of the Manus fight?
Oh, I don't remember it playing during the cutscene. So I should find it if I search for prologue theme? Coz trying to locate it online. Thanks
2:07 where the hell is that panther? Three play throughs and I never saw it once.
You can use a ps3 controller on a pc or do you need a blue tooth sensor? I would like to play it on pc for that extra stuff, as my friend and I have farmed the game out. We still enjoy the pvp when people actually try to fight though.
I am Bro (: and what i really love... this game still surprises me after playing it 6 months... and several playthrough ++... theres so much to discover and learn. Dark Souls is my favorite game of all time. I bow to the entire team that made this game.
Shouls I get the game again? I traded long ago but I'm thinking of getting it again.
Going to pick this game tomorrow. Just to be sure , is the community for DS still playing it? Or will it be near impossible to find someone to play online?
Sorry for lame english , good day!
The firelink shrine song was the best of this game, when you hear it you know nothing can touch you while it's there.
I use a program called DS3 Tool. There's a tutorial out there on how to get your Ps3 controller to work on your PC, but it works remarkably well. It has to remain plugged in to work, though, as far as I can tell.
The combat is amazing! Has such a nice and impactful feel to it. And when you beat a certain region after dying 84 times, it feels so rewarding :D
yes! beating it is the first part of the game now going to hidden areas, acquiring secret weapons and armors, fighting hidden bosses and most of all the PVP is why this game has so much replay value. I can't stress that enough man. go play it again on a different character/build you'll enjoy it :D
Only part in blight town that's annoying is the wheel elevators and the place where the fire keeper's soul is, and the depths are easy, idk why everybody hates them so much.
the battle with seath right. the first encounter?
Yes, it's possible. I personally think it's easier, but with the high influx of people who say Super Smough is easier I don't exactly discredit it altogether.
Anyway, the tactic is to get in close with the Ninja-Flip ring and another ring of your choice (preferably Havel's so that you can use better armour). Equip a good weapon and buff it with a spell like Crystal Weapon. Equip the Grass Crest shield, two hand it and CHARGE.
If you enjoy exploring unique locations and fun challenging combat, then yes.
Also, the areas are so well designed that you will end up memorizing the map by mistake based on the landmarks around you. In fact, the devs where so sure of this, that they didn't even implement a map, at all.
is there checkpoint system in this game?
To complete it the first time I think it was 60 hours maybe, to Platinum it around 89 hours. It is a small game world but sometimes to get to one point you'll have to retry it several times to avoid getting killed in the process and it is very easy to get to some places you shouldn't when you are still underleveled but once you get the hang of it it gets incredibly faster, that is why NG+ and ++ took less time each one. But you'll need to grind a lot. I hate when games "force" you to grind.
well thats what i was thinking of with the healing. i've already done a lot of research on the game so i know what i'm walking into. me and my friend have no problem with the co-op other than, if this is true, we can't talk to each other except through ingame character animations. thats our only problem.
Use the temporary curse items (the dismembered hands) to hit the ghosts.
It is not actually necessary to have an internet connection to my PS3 for this game, right? My room is kinda far from our source, so my PS3 can't really reach it very often.
It's tricky, the summon (co-op) system isn't menu based, but world based. You could do it, but it will take some luck.
been playing my NG+ game to get ready for tomorrow Dark Souls 2!
gonna pick this up tommorow looks great
is this game as good as people say it is? i just bought this game from amazon and it should arrive tommorow. after watching this video im excited to play it. is it worth it?
Yes. The key to the game is the more you discover the easier it gets. Make sure to also level up the correct weapons based of your character type.
Im happy to have bought this game for under $5 in xbox 360 last week!!! Loving every minute of it!
Well that depends on how you as an individual player decide to play the game. If you want to play a game solely for the gameplay, then yes, story does not matter that much. But if you choose to play a certain game for the enjoyment of finding things out for yourself, uncovering new secrets every time you play, and learning something new by piecing together clues, then yes, the goal for you would be to find the hidden story.
