      ***** It just happens time and time again. At least once a year this super hyped up game comes around and everyone is going apeshit for it and 5 months later nobody really remembers it. It's just how hype works. Doesn't really matter if the game is good or not it's if the people are still interested in it half a year down the road. Especially multiplayer games have a hard time doing this.

    Don't really understand the huge hate around Dark Souls 2, I've loved the series since Demon Souls and despite my favourite being Dark Souls 1 I still found Dark Souls 2 to be a great sequel! People just love to bitch and complain nowadays I suppose! Bring on Bloodborne in March!

    • @EPICsliceOFcake
      @EPICsliceOFcake 9 лет назад

      I think the bigger issue is that people do not complain enough these days.

    • @jsun7972
      @jsun7972 9 лет назад +11

      Tell me about it! People bitch so damn much. "Waahhh! Dark Souls 2 has mob bosses" Yet they didn't say that shit when they had Ornstein and Smough ganging up on you or all those fucking skeletons that came out when you fought Nito. "Wahh! The areas are uninspired" Like Lost Izalith looked that great, especially with all the repeat copies of the Capra Demon. And Blighttown was like an annoying version of World 5 in Demon's Souls and Undead Burg was nice but Boletaria was way better to me but I didn't bitch about it. "Wahh! the Gargoyle boss was just a copy and paste from Dark Souls!" Yeah... just like how the gargoyles were a like a dumb downed copy and paste of the Man Eaters in Demon's Souls... oh and lets just forget that they were OPTIONAL to fight. And how about how fucking annoying it was that you could only warp to certain bonfires in Dark Souls. I could go on and on and be negative like the haters are doing. But like you said, I've been a fan since Demon's Souls and I love all 3 games. I think I like Demon's Souls best but that may be due to nostalgia which is what I think is the real issue. For many, Dark Souls was the first game they played and they can't be open minded to accept anything different yet they cry about games being the same. Meanwhile we are enjoying all of them. And the DLC of Dark Souls 2 was amazing.

    I don't understand why people keep saying that the lack of respawning enemies makes the game easier. In many cases (at least mine) it makes the game tougher.
    Say that you need to grind for souls. Well, with no enemies around that makes it pretty tough. That means you'll have to use a bonfire ascetic to bring them back. But by doing that, the enemies are much tougher. You could try to power your way through the rest of the game without upgrading, but if you're not a Dark Souls vet, that may make it a bit tough.

    • @Psalidokrator
      @Psalidokrator 10 лет назад

      For me it made the game waaay easier from the previous titles, the enemies and bosses give you so many souls that i personally didn't even need to farm souls not even once, something that felt a little weird since i was farming souls all the freaking time in DeS and DaS. Also i played Demon's Souls after Dark Souls 2.

      Psalidoklis Tsakos enemies stop spawning after 15 kills so either you died 15+ times in each area, in which case how was it not hard, or you were farming.

    Being able to teleport between all bonfires already at the beginning of the game made it feel short & also reduces the sense of adventure
    Demon of Song was the coolest & most unique boss in the game and most of the bosses were hardly any challenge I didn't need more then 3-5 attempts on any of them and I didn't use any spells or things like that all you rly had to do was just circle around them.
    After I finished the game I didn't get the feeling that I wanted to play New Game + immediately which I got with Demon and Dark

      If you think about it though, the teleport is essential. Can you imagine having to travel to Majula from Dragon Shrine just to level up! :O I know what you mean about the bosses though, some are far too easy, Dark Souls had a perfect balance.

    This review gives Dark Souls 2 way to much credit. The game is good, yes. But it is by no means in Hell, Lordran, or Bolitaria a worthy successor to DkS or DS. The area design in this game is boring and uninspired. there are only 3 or 4 areas in the game that are actually pleasing to look at or having appealing going on in them. The bosses in this game are boring to fight and boring to look at. The slight changes that they made to the combat system, especially the hit boxes is damn close to ruining the experience. The limit to how many times enemies can spawn after resting at a bonfire is stupid and doesn't feel fun, I feel like the devs are slapping my wrist for wanting to be more prepared for a new area which is bull shit. The series has always been about educating yourself for new encounters and taking time out to prepare for those areas, it rewards smart, methodical approaches rather than bull rushing in. It is painfully obvious to tell that Miyazaki was not heavily involved with the game because the focus is noticeably much more focused on making a multiplayer experience than a single player experience and for this style of game, it is frustrating and not in a good way either. If people want to know whether to get this or the first Dark Souls, do yourself a massive favor and get the first Dark Souls. The game is overall a much more polished experience.

    I never liked how enemies just stop spawning. Part of the ultimate satisfaction of dark souls 1 comes form how the game DOESN'T let up with it's difficulty, you just gotta beat it like normal. In DS2 it doesn't feel right when you keep dying at one point and the game basically goes "oh lemme help you by taking away an enemy or 2".

    here goes another 3/4 THOUSAND hours of my life...
    souls players know im not exaggerating.
    its not hard guys! these games just require you to think. theres no GET TO POINT A! GET TO POINT B! these games engulf you, swallow you whole and just when you think you've got it, you die. then the thing between your ears (thats required less and less these days) starts working, suddenly you know when to slash, when to roll, when to block. your at the top of your game but you have no time to think about how well your doing and then finally the boss falls...you fist pump the air, you even swear at the boss disintegrating on the tv, you feel like a fucking badass. only problem...theres another even tougher fight to come.
    AC, skyrim, uncharted, halo, 3d world, gta5 while all great games none of them will stay with you like a souls game does. anyone who's taken a single step into the Valley Of Defilement or Blighttown will know what i mean...
    see you guys on the other side.

      What you said is true. What you forgot is that this game makes you disregard other games coming next. The satisfaction you get from the overall gameplay and content is soooo great that I find my self judging other games too much. Suddenly I want a lot more from gaming industry and that is a magnificent role Souls series play and will play for gamers worldwide. I hope developers can understand the meaning of Dark Souls and create their own challenging game, because games meant to be Hard, Challenging, Clever not just an excuse to kill money and time like 80% of gamers do nowadays.
      I have to finish the 1st one and then grab this diamond next :D

    • @SuperHoraceWimp
      @SuperHoraceWimp 10 лет назад

      SERPENTONORTHAM1992 very true. im in the uk and when i heard demons souls wasn't being released in europe i imported it from the us. thank god ps3 was region free. tbh even though dark souls was an improvement in every way, there are many things i still prefer in demons souls. if your about to play demons souls and need to beat it quickly 1. USE MAGIC 2. FARM GRASS 3. GET NAKED...IN THE GAME I MEAN SO YOU CANT CATCH C LIZARDS/use a strong ranged attack 4. at the tower of latria before the first boss, when your at the bottom of the massive staircase, go up the right tower and along the right cliff and KILL what you find in the room at the end, do this! 5. theres a ring that makes you less visible to the 'flying enemies' in the shrine of storms GET IT. its as important as the clever rats ring is for blighttown! 6. farm souls by killing the first few enemies in the shrine of storms at early points in the game. 7. have a fucking blast!

    • @ooperblownup
      @ooperblownup 10 лет назад

      Not hard? Are you fucking kidding me? The fact that the souls series is awesome is not enough for the old and boring statement of "Im a veteran souls player, its not hard noobs, I have defeated every boss naked in NG+++ on my first try, just git gud"
      Now now, you didnt say all that stuff, but the ettiquette of the veteran souls player stating that the game is not hard BS its still there. The game has been recognized as one of the most difficult, punishing and at times full of bullshit (like with the MANY stupid deaths you suffer) of the last generation.
      If you think its not hard I politely ask you to go now and defeat the ancient dragon if you havent, followed by king Vendrick and The Darklurker, then tell me the game its not hard.

    • @SuperHoraceWimp
      @SuperHoraceWimp 10 лет назад

      Victornero Sain my first run through demons souls was the most punishing, frustrating, rage inducing experience of my gaming life. But i never new a thing about the game. how to level, how to build a character, what certain items did or even how magic worked! regardless, little by little it taught me along the way. nearly every boss killed me multiple times but every time i defeated one i would literally swear at them and fist pump the air, i never felt more rewarded by a game ever.
      i guess the real reason i say it isn't hard is because i want more gamers to try it and not just say its too hard after their 20th death. if you persevere NO other game out today rewards you more, not skyrim, not gta5, not ACreed nothing. if you watch ghostrobo's dark souls WT you see at points he has just had enough and wants to quit. but he didn't, he played through it and gained a much better understanding of the game. now he's doing a ds2 WT/lets play and you can tell he is enjoying himself immensely, yes he gets stuck from time to time but he knows how to play. DS2 GOTY

    The enemies don't respond after around 15 tines killing them, not a big deal, it prevents you from grinding out too many levels in one area forcing you to move on. It also held break the monotony of killing enemies in an area that are not worth the effort. If you have killed em 15 times then I think you have it down.....

    I have no interest in ever playing this game, not saying that the series is not good, but I will never know, frustration is never a good selling point in a video game to me, DMC and Ninja Gaiden are about as difficult a game as I can beat, without breaking a controller. I'm down with concurring all the B.S. that comes my way in real life, especially real life combat (I love that sh*t, Muay Thai FTW!;)
    Funny how some people are raging here, and calling people names for not liking this game, or thinking it's too difficult, and not wanting to play it, these people never said it sucked, so leave them the FK alone, an opposing viewpoint on things is fine.
    Anyways, I'll watch others play it, and enjoy it from afar, I respect the effort of the dev team, but not for me, and as always a good review video from GameSpot, keep up the good work.Peace.

      Items called Human Effigies restore your humanity, but they are exceedingly rare and treasured, so shouldn't be used too often. I shouldn't worry, although the Souls series is hard it is very well balanced, at least for PvE, and they wouldn't bring in any changes that would ruin any type of play style.

      It's nothing new for the souls series. In demon's souls, every time you die and return to soul form, your hp is cut in half (until you beat a boss or use a certain rare stone). But, you also had equipment items like the thief ring which pumped your hp back up to 75%. I'm sure there will be similar ways to make up for that loss in DSII.

      They also confirmed for DS2 that while you lose 10% of your total health with each death you will never lose more than 50%. They very neatly compromised between Demons Souls' system and Dark Soul 1's system. So I wouldn't be too worried.

    I´m around 26 hours in DS2, I finished DS1 in 70. DS2 pales in comparison to the first game in almost every area that matters. Bosses are uninspired, or just flat-out lazy and even one is a copy paste from DS1. Enviroments don´t have any real sence of place and seem just random, with nothing of interesting to see. Standard enemies don´t feel even like a threat. Every enemy I encoutered in DS1 , it felt much more personal, you had to approach many of them with respect. In DS2 I´m like "get the hell out of my way already" . Dissapointment so far ... but i have hopes for DS3, since the maind guy behind DS1 is directing it.

      That's exactly how I felt at first,but DS2 grew on me, and by the time I finished it I liked it almost as much as the first one, however witnessing the DLCs and the much improved and much more demanding new game plus I realised that even if DS2 isn't better than the first it's simply because of the amazing experience of playing a souls game for the first time, because DS2 is a much much deeper game than DS1

    aside from iron keep and its boss, I liked DS2 creature design. I played both DS games back to back, and each game offers a very different feel. Each game is unique to itself, but it feels like the same game. its hard to impress me, especially when it comes to beloved IP.
    DS2 deserves its praise and criticisms, but overall, its too good not to play.

      LiangHuBBB Ive jumped straight from the original dark souls to bloodborne (within a week), and where im at in bloodborne at the moment im finding it a bit easy, im progressing too quickly and beating a boss doesn't seem to be that achievement it was in the older games. The games have gotten easier, but dont avoid the older ones because of the difficulty Theyre all incredible. With Demon souls and dark souls you would spend so much time in one area that finally conquering it was amazing and makes everything so memorable. If I were you id go back to demon souls and play them all.

      There are a lot of variables. I just started Dark Souls 2: SoTFS after beating Bloodborne. It's completely different. It took me a good day just to readjust my timing and get used to the slower pace of the combat. It felt downright clunky at first, especially since a lot of enemies track you and slide around. I even considered trading the game in out if annoyance. You definitely have to invest in a stat called Adaptability in order to make the combat more fluid, at least for your rolls.
      Here are some general impressions:
      1.) Dark Souls 2 is easier. After playing the crazy twitch fest that is Bloodborne, every enemy in Dark Souls feels slow. I used to use a shield in Dark Souls 1 religiously, but after Bloodborne, I don't think I need it for Dark Souls 2, at least not nearly as much.
      2.) The bosses in Bloodborne are harder and more dynamic. In Dark Souls 2, bosses have a limited moveset and can be figured out within 2 minutes (the Pursuer for example). They're still tough and hit hard, but are kinda shallow.
      3.) Enemy encounters aren't as creative in Dark Souls 2 as they are in Bloodborne. Basically, you'll find yourself getting mobbed a lot with little subtlety to the encounter. It's forced difficulty and isn't nuanced or clever.
      4.) The curse shit will initially annoy you and getting the ring to aid in HP reduction is a pain in the ass. It was probably the most annoying part of the game so far because you have to go on a suicide run to get it.
      All-in-all, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is still a good game. There's a lot of flexibility with how you play, your build, armor and weapons. Plus, the game runs beautifully at 60fps. But it's still a rough drop from Bloodborne. If you're a fan of From Software games, you'll grow to love it, but it feels decidedly last gen compared to Bloodborne.

      Am I the only one here that love Bloodborne concept more than Dark Souls world ?
      In my opinion, Bloodborne has more depth, and passion in its world creation. Even the character you play, Hunter culture that happens in Yharnam to hunt beast after the sun goes down is wayyyyyyy more interesting than undead curse. They made Hunter play style quicker and trickier than DS on purpose, bacause they're not straight forward fighter, they use 'trick weapons' , guns, and dashing in battle. It is so iconic.
      Not to mention that blending Dracula mythology and cosmic horror of H.P. Lovecraft together and become something so appealing is fucking genius.

    Dark Souls II Prepare to Babby Edition. Fuck this removal of respawning enemies and being able to teleport wherever you want to from the start. Unless this game is HUGE and has great factions and lore I'm going to piss on my screen while killing the final boss.

    • @GregTom2
      @GregTom2 10 лет назад +5

      The enemies only stop respawning after you slayed them 12 or 15 times.
      If it took you that many tries to advance, than you're no match for the game.
      The only times this happened to me is when I attempted grinding.
      So yes, this game prevents you from grinding easilly at the start of the game and forces you to explore.
      As for the teleport, the game would be impossible to navigate without it because of the use of boats and birds and stuff. It mostly allows for you to have a safe hub where NPCs come live, and allows you to revisit areas.
      And the lore is even more interesting this time around.

      Most of the changes actually make they game more difficult such being able to be hit while rolling which I think couldn't happen in the Darksouls, but I can't remember. Also sheilds that prevent alot of 100% of damage are harder to find and your maximum health being lowered everytime you die, until you reverse your hallowing.

    to everyone to scared to play the game because it's "hard". Yes it's challenging but just get a guide (IGN is pretty thorough) this will give u direction and stop u from instantly dying by wondering into a high level area. And if you wish its detailed enough to the point where you merely follow the walk-through word for word. For the love of the sun don't join the champion covenant if you think the game is hard. Basically if you play carefully and learn the controls you won't die as much (my first 5 hours I didn't die once - though the old dragon slayer messed me up a bit because I was a sorcerer)

    I get that this game is hard, but there doesn't seem to be a lot to it. I've played hard games like BattleToads, Super Ghouls N' Ghosts, Super Castlevania IV etc., but a lot of challenge in modern "hard" games comes from unresponsive controls and a bad camera. This just seems like a modern-day version of an arcade quarter-muncher: good visuals to pull you in, standard controls, with cheap tactics from the enemies to kill you off as often and as quickly as possible.

    • @heymeng4667
      @heymeng4667 10 лет назад +1

      It really isn't as punishingly hard as people tend to say. You just have to be careful and stay alert all the time. Not flail attacks like an idiot and study your enemies to find weaknesses. The games you mentioned, like Battle Toads, sometimes seemed like they were not meant to be beaten. In the case of the Souls series, they are meant to be completed and enjoyed to the fullest. I really recommend this game or any in the series if you've never had the opportunity to experience them.

    After digesting man reviews of Dark Souls 2 and beating the game several times myself, I can honestly say that Dark Souls 2 is the worst of the Souls Series. I have played both Dark and Demon's Souls and I have been a part of the community since people were adding things on the Demon's Souls wiki, back in 09. It's not about bad graphics or controls though, so before you start furiously typing about that... don't.
    The problem with the game is that simply put it's too easy. With the advent of summoning (literally everywhere), the game became ridiculously easy. On top of that the only measure they have to make the game harder is turning up HP and DMG on enemies (artificial difficulty). Now, don't get me wrong I do enjoy the game, or at least I did. I am kind of bored of it now, only three months in.
    The things that made this game worse though are:
    1. Magic being overpowered. Seriously I made a hexer in the game and I just rape everything in 1 or 2 hits. If I have a problem with a boss, I just summon and rape it while casting away, the bosses attention on the summon.
    2. Weapon movesets being complete garbage, while others are amazing. In Dark Souls 1 I kept making new characters with new builds, because I wanted to see how it would fare against the environment. Most all of the movesets were viable in their own way. Swords, Axes, even scythes were all useable. In DkS II hardly any weapons are worth your while, some striaght up useless, i.e. Reapers.
    3.Armor is too fucking good. In DkS 1 heavy armor meant you took less Dmg, in DkS II heavy armor means you take no damage.
    I am sure there are more, but this is a long post as is it is. Let me know what you think?

    DARK SOULS < Demon's Souls < DARK SOULS II
    This most recent "Souls" game is not only the best one yet but my personal favorite of all time.
    There was only one part of the game that I felt broken.
    One word:
    Darklurker.
    First off, he's not mandatory to beat the game, but...
    Not only is the boss one of the most difficult in "Souls" game history, but getting to him is just as extremely difficult. Not only is being extremely difficult and extremely difficult to get to enough though, you can't summon anyone to help you. Oh, you thought I was done? Not only all that which sounds ridiculously hard and broken enough, you have to do all that AND you have to sacrifice a rare item - Human Effigies - every time you fail... By the time I got to the 3rd and final portal I had only 10 Human Effigies left which means I had only 10 tries to clear out the extremely difficult enemies, light the fire(which you only have to do once thankfully) and beat the boss - where if I failed I had to repeat...
    Simply put, I ran out of effigies and my experience is now "incomplete" thanks to this flawed broken last boss... I can't vs him anymore... It's unfair. You'll be lucky if you even get the chance to fight this boss once because of how cheap he is to get to.
    PS, at half health he splits into two.
    Happy raging.
    Other than that, one of the best games ever!

    I just beat the game, and it was amazing! However, some of the new gameplay mechanics were completely unnecessary, all of them infact. The ability to warp straight off the bat really hurts the concistancy of the world. In the first game you get a really good picture of how the world is connected and intertwined seamlessly, and you're encouraged to explore and find secret areas and so on, but in this one you just end up with a bunch of loading screens because of this mechanic. Also the the game just felt easier in general. I beat a bunch of bosses on my first try without even knowing the tactics. Youd think this is a good thing but its not. You dont get the same feeling of achievement and progression if you can just run through areas. The story was absolutly fantastic though and the combat was smoother and more seamless than in the first game. i think 9/10 is a fitting verdict.

    people are really being dumb about the enemies not respawning. There are PLENTY in the game, and the game is MUCH more difficult than dark souls 1, and this feature makes it even tougher, as you can't grind for items or souls from specific enemies. Plus, later on you can bring them back anyway, and there's new game+, play the fckin game its awesome and i'm stuck right now so i'm typing this to you all.

    I never played any souls game. I don't really care about the story. Should I play Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, or Dark Souls 2?

      DS2 is better, The DS1 was boring. Aside from boss fights the game doesn't really have anything better. People are just nostalgic.

    Not that much difficult damn that the only thing on the review that i think is wrong
    1 you cant infinite buy items with souls it now has a limited amount
    2. Parry is more difficult
    3. You start with only one estus flask you need to find shards to upgrade the amount
    4. The enemy's are really really smart its now more difficult to backstab
    5. The enemy in ds stunned when you lifted your shield now you get pushed back but they can still do their combo on you
    6. Well the HP reduction is really hardcore ( but you cant counter it later in the game but i wont spoil it )
    I think i missed a lot more but i already have more then 8 hours and i still just did the boss in tomb of the gaints ( last gaint) and the dragonrider boss in the other area ( forgot the name sorry ) for now i really love this game i hope it stays strong till the end

    Damn, PC gamers have to wait over a month for this game. We get a better game so I guess it'll be worth it.

      It will be the same game with better res and frame rate.

      vazup Exactly.. a better game with way better textures, resolution, and framerates. Those are considered to make a game better. Makes for a different visual expierence.

      ***** Not a better game but a better version - the game stays the same!

      A game with better graphics is a better game than a game with worse graphics.
      This is quite a simple concept to grasp.

      unrealeck "A game with better graphics is a better game than a game with worse graphics.
      This is quite a simple concept to grasp." That couldn't be more wrong, there are tons of games that look good but are totally shit game play wise.

    The only things Dark Souls 2 beat Dark Souls on was different weapon styles and cooler more detailed armor even though I miss Artorias' armor that I had in the previous game.

    What The F does "Fake Save Data Owner: On" mean?

    • @NOXsaiv
      @NOXsaiv 10 лет назад +3

      It's a downloaded saved game from the internet.. this game just has weird things done too different than the other games systems.

    • @gundown26
      @gundown26 10 лет назад +4

      It means you copied a save file that didn't originate on the harddrive. In short, fucking noobs cheating by copying some else's save data.

    • @MMasterDE

      ***** gundown26 It's not necessarily a save downloaded from the internet or from another HDD. It can be a save that originated from another PSN user on the same PS3. If you got multiple PSN users on your PS3 you can simply copy a save over to them. The thing is though, the earlier Souls games had a copy protection... hmm
