Bluepoint destroyed what was originally a magnum opus of a game. I feel nothing but pity and disdain for people who played the PS5 version, _ESPECIALLY_ if they only played that and never played the PS3 original!
this is one of the deepest game I've ever played, the game is hard~ but the grinding & leveling up feels just right, best action RPG ever~ people who enjoy rushing through games, might look elsewhere
It’s definitely waayy up there, but I still think the greatest game of all time on the PlayStation is Shadow of the Colossus, and just like Demon’s Souls, it was HIGHLY innovative, had GORGEOUS art design, and was addicting to play. The only thing DeS was missing that SotC had was the heartstring tug. I never felt bad killing enemies in DeS, but good lord did SotC cause the biggest lump in my throat, choking me up every time I downed a boss (especially when they were just minding their own business, not harming me!), and the ending made me cry. Very few special video games can cause that kind of emotion. And I don’t say that to take away from DeS obvious amazing atmosphere (I’m of course talking about the original PS3 version; not the dumpster fire that Bluepoint made for the PS5). The OG DeS did cause outstanding tension, fear when being invaded, and a feeling of isolation and despair. It caused very different emotions than SotC.
@@anti-ethniccleansing465You know, I wasn’t very interested in trying out shadow of the colossus but if people like you can form such a deep connection to it, I think I’ll pick it up here in a bit
I sometimes have this revisionist view of Demons Souls where it's just kinda "Dark Souls' first baby steps" but looking at this it's so cool too see how much of the Souls vision was being recognized by people at the time already.
@MultiCaliban Don't know if you have/haven't decided to buyit, but here's my two cents. Although there are different classes in the beginning of the game, and they will decide your fighting style for the first few areas, it is possible for any character to branch out into different paths. Started as a magician but also like big weapons? no problem, simple pay souls to upgrade your strength (or any other stat, it's this games version of leveling up) and you can wield it. So yes,it's customizable.
demon's souls is one of the best game i have ever played, the game technically never ends because once you beat it, it starts over again and the enemies are harder what's not to love?!?
Not true. They don’t get infinitely harder on infinite replays. There’s only like maybe 7 NG+s I think where the enemies will get harder. Then it tops out and stays the same.
Elden Ring is launching in a couple of days and I can’t wait, so I thought I’d revisit the game review that got me started on Souls games. I watched this when it was published and though I had to play this game, and now, 12 years later, I’m chomping at the bit waiting for my next From hit. May there be many many more.
In my opinion, the greatest game ever made (Dark Souls a very close second, maybe tied). The atmosphere is perfect, level design mind blowing (still). I could go on and on.
Dark souls has some severely underdeveloped sections. I'd say the moment to moment gameplay is better in Demon's but the overall continuity and world design is better in dark souls.

@deliman there is a slight difficut mode, if you constantly died a lot. The monsters gets harder and harder until it reached the peak that it can kill you if you are not careful. Early in the game, you get adjusted to the controls and dodging is an important factor in the game.
Don't get me wrong, Demon's Souls was and still is an amazing game, but Objectively speaking Dark Souls 1 is the best out of all the Souls games. It had everything that made Demon's Souls good, took out some bad things and then some upgrades. One example is the map/world: in Demon's Souls you teleport from the nexus to different locations. However in Dark Souls EVERYTHING is connected : the world is out there to explore and it's build in a masterful way. How many times did I walk and played for hours just to get back at a familiar place by opening a door or climbing a ladder? When the game is over you can spawn at the start and walk through almost all the world without loading (exceptions new anor londo and Gwym's final battle). The game was more fluid, the story was better, the fighting was better and there's a lot more different environments. Demon's souls is : world 1 castle, world 2 mines, world 3 towers, world 4 rocky mountains and 5 is a swamp. In Dark Souls you get all that AND a forest, water falls, caverns, lakes, temples, churches, an underground hidden in a huge tree that brings you to the actual earth level where ashes of dragons feed the roots of other huge trees only to realize you're under the whole map and the whole world that you explored which was gigantic is all bases on a bunch of tree's. I can't explain why, but I like Demon's Souls more than its Dark cousins. When I played Dark Souls I got aggrivated in Blighttown and stopped playing, though I may pick up again later. Demon's Souls, however, just keeps reeling me back in. I still haven't beaten it yet, because I have to be in the mood for it, but I've got one world left.
I picked up dark souls last week and blighttown has been giving me a hard time aswell, it's easily hardest area in the game so far but I refuse to give up! i still need to sink my teeth into demon souls, ive only beaten the first boss and i haven't played it much since. it's by no means a bad game! just so many great games so little time
@lugorifm if there are other questions you want answered i suggest going to google and typing in demon's souls wiki they have info ranging from guides and walkthrus to info on weapons and their upgrades
Josh Mclaughlin A lot of people feel that way. I played Demon's>Dark>Dark II. There is just something off with the worlds in 2. It doesn't feel cohesive, it feels like a mess kind of.
@lugorifm no pretty sure the video said that as well and as for rolling faster, then i'm assuming your character does what i call a hard roll in which the character hits the floor hard and takes awhile getting up, to roll faster just make sure your total equip burden is half of your maximum equip burden. An easy way to tell is to look at your stats in the start menu but if you wish to wear heavier equipment and roll jus as fast when you wear lighter amour then increase your endurance stat
they have an R2 attack that has long range and is really fast and there is a weapon called the scraping spear which damages the durability of your oponents weapons with every hit so after 3 hits or so you have won the fight.
I'm playing all-out warrior with 60 str and 50 end and vit, but i'm getting tired of using the DBS over and over and over again, it just makes it too easy! So is there another good str-based weapon, preferably with normal attack speed and without knockdown? Please respond :) I've got the stones necessary, so upgraded weaps isn't a problem. Thanks :D
@NathanOles the dragon sword causes enemies to catch on fire you can find it in the stonefang tunnels world i believe I found it when your actually in the tunnels with the giant fire beetle things just look around you'll find it
@Elegost3000 if you aren't connected to the psn then the PvP boss Old Monk will be an AI controlled boss, but everything counts either way so it doesn't really matter if your connected or not.
i have had this game a whole day. Still on the first map. the first map !!! the first checkpoint!! it's bloody difficult. BUT I LOVE IT SO FREAKIN MUCH. I'm gonna continue now.
@kingharris22 well the difficulty comes from the fact that danger could come from all angles. Like falling off a cliff during a boss fight, or having multiple enemies coming at you at the same time when you least expect it... Sure after getting used to all the worlds, things get wayy easier.
@TheOmuur they were going to do a dlc, but they decided not to for some reason. It was going to be some kind of land of giants, and possibly an epilogue for the evil ending, if u know what it is then u will understand what im talking about.
@KrisVidz what invisible barriers? and arrows not hitting your target? well maybe its not connecting to your enemys cause they are moving. Also the locking system is perfect depending where the hell you are and what are you locking on to.Now those delayed actions are due to people having fucked up connects which i have also been getting pissed of.The game gets harder cause its a say "Learning experience" and most game now a days restarts you at the beginning. Its not a hard game if that happens
Was just about to comment here to say this is one of the best game reviews I’ve seen anywhere. I feel like reviews by big outlets days have really taken a dive
i have to ask, how does that invade system works ? if i'm logged in psn the time i play the game, can i be invade by some lv99 pro anytime? or is there a "online" option in the main menu?
No new game has been announced, but From Software has stated they're working on a new project. It was probably Steel Battalion, but after that it could be the next Souls game.
@JSasRays I died when I first started, I was use to other games. Just run in kill, finish, complete. Once I realized how this game was met to be played I never died again.
@ShabbaKoe im pretty sure you can, i never have but i doubt fromsoftware would over look something like that..but i should say though that the online caomponent is a great addition to the campaign weather your playing co-op or not , the ghosts, bloodstains, and hints are a big part of what makes the game really unique...
My only question is this. How is the sword combat and is it authentic? I love authentic sword games. My favorite sword games are bushido blade for the ps1 and both assassins creed sword gameplay. They are the most authentic sword play. Is this game sword gameplay in any way similar to the two mention above or is it awesome? To those who really have played the games I mentioned please provide an honest answer because this game seems very interesting. It's the year of singleplayer games for me.
I don't think so ether... I just got the game very recentl and I could try to explain how I got through the first stage. From the start, U cross a narrow bridge filled with Undead soldiers. At the end, there is close gate. On the left and right sides, there are smaller gates that count as shortcuts if ur willing to explore and open them. These small gates count as your Checkpoints before the stage's boss. Sure, the enemies will respond but these shortcuts will make the stage shorter after death.
@FloresRain PS3 disks use Blu-Ray format to hold the content. Xbox 360 uses DVD. Blu-Ray can hold and run much more content than DVD. Since the new Dark Souls is going to be multi-platform, the developers will have to be able to make the game playable on DVD format, which will more than likely result in small environments, less weapons, worse framerate, etc. Unless they make it on more than one disk for 360, but I doubt it.
I like some challenge in games but the closest thing to a hard RPG that we've had in a while (that i know of) is Dragon Age. And that became very easy after learning the system properly.
@TheLeggio yea. but at least a dlc i mean i wanna know whats in the broken archstone. and i think it will be dumb if dun do a sequel when they succeeded in every way they wanted. what was your max lvl character?
@gomes1258 I'm not a "pro" at the game yet, I'm currently on my 4th New Game though. I usually play offline, I dislike being invaded when I'm trying to get Pure White Tendency. Players can invade you at anytime (except in the Nexus) if your playing online, you can't turn it off unless you switch the Internet off. I think your only invaded by those around your level and once you finish a world I believe they don't appear. Check a wiki for more detailed descriptions. Btw, level 712 is the max.

managed to beat Dark Souls today, and recently ordered this game! and to top it all off we get Dark Souls 2 next month! ah the perfect time to get into the Souls series!
Get ready. I personally think this is the best in the series.
i still need to sink my teeth into demon souls, ive only beaten the first boss and i haven't played it much since. it's by no means a bad game! just so many great games so little time
Yes its a good time for souls fans ;)
@lugorifm if there are other questions you want answered i suggest going to google and typing in demon's souls wiki they have info ranging from guides and walkthrus to info on weapons and their upgrades
Im hoping ill have more fun with this than I did with dark souls 2. I absolutely adored dark souls 1, but I really didn't like 2 :-/
Josh Mclaughlin A lot of people feel that way. I played Demon's>Dark>Dark II. There is just something off with the worlds in 2. It doesn't feel cohesive, it feels like a mess kind of.
DS2 was such a letdown after DS1 for me as well. Thought I was the only one.
wait what if you don t have internet on your ps3 then how do you do that boss battle where you have to fight another player?????
Remake this with the bloodborne engine
The game is coming to ps5 as a full remake.
I'm in trouble - Please recomend this message!
It only came out last month in Europe, sadly, we all had to wait a whole lot longer than everyone else.
I'm still going to get it as soon as possible,
they have an R2 attack that has long range and is really fast and there is a weapon called the scraping spear which damages the durability of your oponents weapons with every hit so after 3 hits or so you have won the fight.
should I buy this or new vegas ?
I'm playing all-out warrior with 60 str and 50 end and vit, but i'm getting tired of using the DBS over and over and over again, it just makes it too easy! So is there another good str-based weapon, preferably with normal attack speed and without knockdown? Please respond :)
I've got the stones necessary, so upgraded weaps isn't a problem.
Thanks :D
@NathanOles the dragon sword causes enemies to catch on fire you can find it in the stonefang tunnels world i believe I found it when your actually in the tunnels with the giant fire beetle things just look around you'll find it
@Elegost3000 if you aren't connected to the psn then the PvP boss Old Monk will be an AI controlled boss, but everything counts either way so it doesn't really matter if your connected or not.
what sword do you use that causes your enemies to light on fire???
i have had this game a whole day.
It was going to be some kind of land of giants, and possibly an epilogue for the evil ending, if u know what it is then u will understand what im talking about.
do you get to fight the monster at 0:30 ?
Why does the enemies get some black circle inside of them when u target them? looks really annoying. Do u get annoyed by this when playing?
@KrisVidz what invisible barriers? and arrows not hitting your target? well maybe its not connecting to your enemys cause they are moving. Also the locking system is perfect depending where the hell you are and what are you locking on to.Now those delayed actions are due to people having fucked up connects which i have also been getting pissed of.The game gets harder cause its a say "Learning experience" and most game now a days restarts you at the beginning. Its not a hard game if that happens

Gave some of the best reviews
@iSimie You can summon for extra backup (2 more people) only when youre alive.
@Haloassful when did the developers anounced a sequel? please send me a link were i can check this
I managed to get it a month ago. I loved how I was just flattening everything on NG+++ with my overpowered weapons. Good times.
is the combat the same as the last one and the graphex? I just want to play both and il be going backwards
If one of the bosses is a player, do you HAVE to play this game online all the time? or can you just play the campaign offline
It's less authentic that bushido blade for sure, but significantly moreso than like 95 percent of other action games involving medieval weapons.
Unless they make it on more than one disk for 360, but I doubt it.
my fav boss was the tower knight and the storm king
I like some challenge in games but the closest thing to a hard RPG that we've had in a while (that i know of) is Dragon Age. And that became very easy after learning the system properly.
@sonic371 Yes, considering Demon's Souls is only 8.9GB on disc; which is an amount that would fit on a dual layer DVD. Reaching far now aren't you?
Hey can anyone tell me this.if you win the game can you continue the game again?
how do i get the dragon sword? the one where u stab a guy and it sets him on fire
HELP!!!
@Asyaki05 Way too awesome. Ordered the game, falling into my mailbox tomorrow. Is it only 1 boss or any boss?
@TheLeggio yea. but at least a dlc i mean i wanna know whats in the broken archstone. and i think it will be dumb if dun do a sequel when they succeeded in every way they wanted. what was your max lvl character?
so IF I have ps plus and downloaded demon souls for free and suddenly lost my ps plus subscription, do I lose my games as well from ps plus?
@deliman but are they too hard? can i play on easy and still survive?
I think this is the review that made me buy the game originally
Yeah
Same for me, and a PS3!
Btw, level 712 is the max.
i have never played an rpg before, im this one to be my 1st , so its the gameplay easy to learn? any recommendations?
