The sickest thing about Courtney’s screams is that they’re in key lol. You can hear she follows the key* changes perfectly, much like she does in Belcarra as well.

Yeah I love that aspect of this band. The drummer follows suit too, he always changes his symbols and heads to match the key of the song.

The *key* is the specific arrangement of intervals you use based on the western 12 note chromatic scale *A-G* with a sharp/flat of each note directly after each note besides the notes B and C + E and F
The key in this song does change and I’m not gonna say I can name what they are just after a brief listening, but what you said is just the wrong terminology entirely and you’re gonna piss theory snobs off and confuse others that don’t know anything and then they’ll make a fool out of themselves repeating the shit you said because they saw someone else say it so confidently
Addendum for clarification: screams are normally an atonal sound. They can’t be pitch corrected with programs such as Autotune because they lack any tonal consistency that would allow them to be.

If you can “pitch” your screams naturally, however, it means you can get closer to an actual tonic clarity with a noise that otherwise wouldn’t. It doesn’t mean you’re in key or hitting any of the notes within that key unless you’re “tonally” screaming, or singing with “heavy distortion” which is a sound you can find very often in bands like architects and bad omens, where they are fully hitting notes. Chris liepe has a plethora of videos on learning how to do that very technique if anyone is interested in free and valuable education.
You will never find a single instance of anyone referring to screams as being in key, this guy is using anecdotes from entirely different concepts to justify his original stance.
The whole EP has been incredible, spiritbox does not disappoint

The transition from Too Close/Too Late into Angel Eyes is beautiful.
The track you're talking about is Hysteria. It's one of my favorites from them and it has one of the heaviest breakdowns I've ever heard.
He seems to have a problem remembering amazing songs.
Spiritbox's breakdowns are so good because they're just unique, not just heavy noise. Courtney's ability to sync with them is insane.

I'm taking my time, it's been 2-3 years, but I'm the type of guy to really get into one band and then listen to their catalogue on repeat. So far I only know a few bands well and I'm slowly expanding my knowlege.
Going back to stuff being heavier than other stuff, I think it's very subjective. For example, for me slower usually means heavier. Contrast is also very important to me - a nasty breakdown in a diverse song (look: ST's The Summoning for example) hits harder than when the whole track is an "ass-beater" (like Demolisher by Slaughter to Prevail), even though the breakdown by itself is much heavier.
This EP is spectacular. Simple as that.
I was waiting for this react so much.. Today was such an epic day to listen to Spiritbox, the contrast between Ultraviolet & Angel Eyes is PERFECT! Discovered them with Rule of Nines & Blessed Be, and they are still my favorite band after all these years.
Holy Roller (deservedly) gets all of the clout but Silk in the Strings is right up there and deserves more love, super underrated. Cellar Door and Angel Eyes are right up to par with them. New EP slaps
I love listening to Secret Garden up to Eternal Blue... start off catchy and melodic, then headbang all the way through Silk in the Strings and Holy Roller, then recover with Eternal Blue 🤘

When first hearing it, I didn’t like Silk In The Strings at all but repeated listening to it in the context of the album anyway…and then one day it just hit me, absolutely loving it since then, as you say deserves much more love
Yes I love that you can hear sounds from all their music combining into this masterpiece. I love Ultraviolet and Courtney's performance.
The djent chug on the breakdown hitting between beats really caught me, makes it more unnerving - love that wrinkle
This new EP is so good! Probably my favorite of their songs. You can really tell they were passionate about it instead of pressured to make it.

Belcarra 2.0 but with beats and crunchy wholesome goodness. That pitch shift together with the drums is so good. The drums and guitars are super tight. They really drive the groove into your bones. Solid track!
