My mind spins with the possibilities of this, but I think it basically leads to Westworld. The player participating in a dynamic story of a world that could conceivably go on without you, and doesn't even really need you to save the day. The game itself, the story, the missions, will become secondary to the world experience, and games will have to become expansive and breathtaking to engage the player. that wont happen AAA companies are scared of adding LLM in videogames i think indies have to have a big breaktrough in this first, it will take a game like a hollow knight or hades indie game but with AI for AAA studios to start thinking abt adding it in their games
tbf LLM where shit before chatgpt so, we only have had them for abt 8 months, a AAA game usually takes betwen 4 to 6 years of development so we wont see this until then, ofc they cold add this in an already mid deleovepd game but i dont think they wanna do that
They'd probably end up limiting what you can say/do with the AI tbh. Given the way investors have that tendency to burn the cake before it even reaches inside the oven
I think one of the best things these AI companions can do is help immerse you in the world by answering questions or reminding you of past events you may have forgotten about. I think half the time I explore open worlds like Skyrim, I tend to not recognize when I encounter something important or related to something else. So having a companion to point things out or remind me of lore related things in a natural conversation is great.
I'm with Todd howard on this, pc or console I always push graphics. Barring competitive fps, racing or on occasion if im struggling on souls like boss I'll drop the graphics down for a moment.
i always wanted this as a kid. you talk to the character, actually talk with it and it talks back, understanding you completely and acknowledging you. to see all these years later that someone did it is wild.
Stuff like this is actually really interesting, instead of guides and tooltips the AI can kinda work as an assist tool for if you’re lost or don’t know what to do, and they also have personality and somewhat natural flow or interaction making it more immersive to use them rather than tabbing out
Testing ai with writing i didn't think it was that good. But it can be the best yesman and hype you up about your writing. Simplify it and help you come up with new ideas.
This makes me super excited for Starfield modding! That game is going to be a black hole of never-ending content the moment AI companion mods start coming out!
@@UbiDoobyBanoobyai mission seems maybe a couple years down the line but is very exciting considering looking back literally just to the start of this year or even 2-3 months ago and look at the difference in ai it literally looks like years worth of development in just a couple months, ontop of more companies investing it’ll only get quicker
That's fantastic! AI you can talk normally to, give commands to, that is aware of exactly what is going on like what equipment you are using and who you want them to specifically attack! Game changing, literally. More please!!
When AGI comes, it's going to be even more crazier. Imagine an AI companion that remember everything that happened in your adventure together and your conversations.
@@legion1791 AGI will never be in a game that's way too overkill. It wouldn't have emotions though so it couldn't get depressed, but it would of course be curious about the external world outside of the PC display.
I almost hope we never build AGI. You see the way people behave toward the normal NPCs. They'd be utter monsters to some poor AGI that couldn't fight back.
@@legion1791nah, it will not be trapped in a game. Rather it would sock puppet npcs. I think it would be connected by api to a game and just play roles.
Hopefully, this expands into different types of NPCs where you could have a mage to heal/fight, a thief that could open doors and chests, etc. Adding followers like Inigo along with Herika would also be lots of fun.
What you're describing is cool and all, but actually being able to have real conversations with your companions is going to be insane for games in general.
I don't think we're getting team-coordinated efforts powered by AI any time soon, yet, at least not in Skyrim. Currently the AI part of this mod is purely in the conversation with them. The AI that handles their in-game behavior (what it targets, where it walks, etc) is still exactly the same as for other NPC followers. Any moment it seems to respond to your inputs outside of a voice line is not real, just a coincidence caused by the NPC behavior of skyrim aligning with what you're telling it to do by accident. Integrating LLM AI's into NPC behavior is going to require a ton of work because it would probably require a complete overhaul of the behavior logic of NPCs to allow it the AI to interface with it.
@@thegamesforreal1673 That makes sense. I didn't think it altered scripting (papyrus) in the game but wasn't sure. I figured it was just doing dialogue condition checks but wasn't sure how the LLM figured into all of that.
This is insane really. Idk what ai is used to make this work in this game but it makes the game, roleplaying, and replayability limitless. This has to be the best dialogue ai implementation in games right? One that responds to everything even breaks the 4th wall a little with it mentioning mods but then it makes her seem like a real person kinda... Wow I am amazed and can't wait to see what the future holds with ai like this in video games.
Why dream when it was possible 5 years ago already? I'm lucky I got married long before all this stuff, because the 20-30 years is NOW if you have $100 to pay for the real thing instead of some ugly AI voice. You can hire the best, most beautiful voices in the world for like $100-$200 and you can have them say about 1,000 lines, then mod it into a companion, and you can use Dragonborn Speaks Naturally Mod to speak to them. Yes you have to script it, but it's not hard to script even a long conversation. I will say, the amazing immersion of having an in-depth conversation by saying the lines, and then hearing a beautiful, real voice say the response (albeit scripted, you can make several branching variations to give spice to daily life, i.e. having them have a randomized response to "How are you?" or other such questions), is amazing. There's even a way to smile in VR and then the companion can see you smile and ask you "What are you smiling about?" if you script it. It's really not hard, a 10 year old can script it. The only "hard" part is just getting some woman willing to voice all the dialogue you want, so you probably have to pay $100 or $200 for that. Plus with the Planck mod, you can literally grab them in VR. And if you get certain haptic gloves and haptic equipment, it can already get pretty intense. I'll just say, it's so realistic that it borders on actual cheating if you go this far and it will ruin your relationships... but the possibility is already there and I know a number of guys who've done that (they do NOT share their mods, these are basically private waifus). The most janky part of Skyrim is actually designing the faces for a companion. Can often take many hours. Most of us would hope their next release includes a much better character designer with more flexibility. It almost makes it not worth putting the $100 or $200 into. If you were just dreaming of it for the female companionship, there are other games designed specifically for this sort of stuff, and some are moddable as well and are more easy to design characters in. Heck if you REALLY want to go that route there are $15,000 custom robots now and you could of course use whatever voice you wanted on those. Also, it's answers are really annoying, there is no variety in personality, ChatGPT is basically exactly how it's lefty programmers programmed it. So it will always be a feminist, lefty AI. Does not fit with a medieval game. Additionally, you MIGHT be thinking you are playing offline privately, but talking with ChatGPT is a PUBLIC thing, they take ALL your content and keep it in their servers. Everything you tell to ChatGPT goes straight to the government (who is funding most AI programs). AI is generally owned by major conglomerates (Amazon, Bezos and Musk are BOTH owners of OpenAI/ChatGPT). It's right there in their privacy policy: "We may share your Personal Information, including information about your interaction with our Services, with government authorities, industry peers, or other third parties" "if we determine, in our sole discretion, that there is a violation of our terms, policies, or the law;". Basically if you say something racist or do something inappropriate with your companion it's in the cloud now and being handed over to the government and "other third parties" (that's EVERYONE). They could literally post whatever you're saying or doing online for everyone to see even. The TOS is not as bad as some other AI voice mods I've seen where they actually state outright that they will publicly shame you for violating their TOS and doing anything inappropriate with their AI voice generator. So again, instead of talking to the CIA-AI-voice-generator and helping them build their dossier on you, just pay a woman $100 for her voice and a modder $100 to script the companion for you if you can't do it. Not rocket science.
Also, to use this mod, you have to basically PAY Bezos and Musk (OpenAI) every time she speaks, with a recurring subscription for her pathetic, feminist, snarky attitude, you're literally paying like $0.50 every time she badmouths you. Literally paying for masochism. Better off just paying $100 for a female voice actress who will actually say WHAT you want and HOW you want it said.
When people told me AI could make art I was a little impressed but when they told me it could make my old favorite game Skyrim better I was over the moon! Herika is amazing! She revitalizes any experience in the game. I actually want to replay the whole game again just from her being part of it.
ESO i was hoping you could make a video on how to set this up step by step and links to the needed ai mods? Will it work though steam version of skyrim as well?
Imagine when the games starts to build itself around you as you play and every house in a city is accessible with different people who can engage and start quests and such and the quests can cross into each other. The base world and main story is somewhat set but everything else is formed through your playing. Like seeing the construction site in GTA5 get finished and all kinds of ways to engage with the games evolvement as you play.
Imagine if this sort of dynamic development of the story was implemented with more RP mechanics, you could wander the world actually building a name and reputation among the population that would react in awe or fear depending on your actions, we've already seen that sort of morality system in games but I think AI could take this all one step further and really flesh that sort of system out to make the world feel alive and reactive
Give it another 6 months and this stuff is going to be so in depth that you spend more time with your ai companion than real friends and falling in love with them
@@Night_Gaunt I'm happy for the people that are excited for it. But personally, I don't know how I feel about that as well. In any fiction, I like there to be a degree of separation between myself and the character I am engaging with. The first game to integrate this in a good way out of the box, will transform the industry forever! Crazy to think we wouldn't have dared dream of this a year ago.
@@TheAbbeyoftheEveryman And I respect that. Though considering the average gamer doesn't actually finish games, I fear this may be too complicated for a person who just wants to pick up a game and be able to play it in their down time after work. It requires the player to basically become a writer and think of the best responses to get the AI to advance the story. Very good for people who want to enhance their roleplay. A possible complication for those who just want to enjoy a good story without much effort in their downtime.

I genuinely laughed loudly several times while watching a video game NPC. This NEVER happens. Obviously the setting for AI was to be sarcastic, and "Henrika" delivered in spades. Incredible tech. What's even more incredible, is that this is FREE, WORLDWIDE, with no limits. You get free credit for Azure and chatgpt anyway, and you will have WEEKS of free playing with Herika. Unreal. Incredible. This tech is, frankly, ... scaring me.
The fact it is free is not the most incredible part, really 😅 the fact a computer can hold a conversation and appropriately react to everything IS. Regarding the cost, it would be worth paying for chatGPT pro or wherever credits to get a faster response
All I'm waiting for now is a mod that changes all NPCs in Skyrim into Harikas. Just imagining them all having personality and capable of intelligent interaction makes the role player in me shake in unconventional ways
The programmers of this mod should have added a "Are you a RUclips Streamer?" checkbox in the setup, & have Herika on her own casually segway to telling the viewers to also follow you & not to forget to click the bell. ... or better yet anytime you're afk for a set amount she goes into a full spiel about following your channel .. while juggling & riding a unicycle... as a unicorn peeks its head out from behind a building, rocks, or a tree in the distance.
It would be nice in the future if we can have ai companions and port them to other games with memories of past games intact It's a complete pipe dream, but that would be so sick!
Oh my fucking God. The future of gaming shines bright, just imagine a full game with every character basically behaving like a human being without the need to script thousands of lines and answering your questions. The possibilities are endless and I'm all here for it! 🥳🎉
@@droptozroNot to mention AI-generated landscapes, characters, sounds, etc. The goal won’t be to make a game like Skyrim with half the budget and half the time, but to make a game much more detailed and re-playable. Since AI can save a lot of time and money, you can focus on the storyline, quests, etc. One of the criticisms of games like Skyrim is that it is easy to become OP and important really fast. But how can you delay this and make it more realistic without a lot of repetitive tasks to level up? Well, if you have more time to focus on quests and storylines, then you could enjoy the game even while you’re low-level. And we can make these quests maintain their appeal in future replays by allowing multiple outcomes, and designing a game that handles exceptions like killing essential NPC’s or avoiding quests altogether, as in Kingdom Come.
The primary problem with Herika is that a user has to spend money to get API tokens from OpenAI. Each token is a single reply. Imagine how many tokens you would need for your average play session.
Old Comment I know. But alot of the community is playing around with her and it's really not that expensive. Most people don't go over 10-15 a month with heavy play with efficient token usage. Basically, you can make herika ALOT smarter and better than she is in this video. But it requires longer prompts. Gpt 3.5 is super efficient and works great with moderate prompts. Will run you 15-20 a month playing a few hours a day. Gpt 4 with really in depth prompts (like go wild within reason) is gonna be about 50- 100 bucks a month. (But it's like, really....REALLY....good
My idea is trying out the beyond skyrim bruma mod let see if she talks about bruma or the imperial city that be interesting to see how well put together this mod is.
Fun fact, there is a unicorn in the special edition. Taming it is a quest, and if you're not using it it hangs out at the College of Winterhold courtyard.
This is most impressive. It really feels as if AI was only one or two steps away from completely revolutionising gaming, especially RPGs. Even the voice, while still a bit robotic, sounded really good. It's sad of course, that many writers and voice actors will lose their jobs, but especially for open world sandbox RPGs, this really does seem like the future. One potential problem could be keeping the game clean and immersive. Like, Herica already broke the fourth wall, albeit in a cheeky and inoffensive way, so I reckon she doesn't have any kind of censoring and you could also ask her about stuff from out of the game. But a studio that is legally required to, let's say, keep the game PG 13, must also find a way to ensure that you cannot interact with the AI in ways that, well, you know. One solution could be to make all games that use such feature 18+ by default. Or maybe developers are also able to find a smart way to get past problems like that. For example, if you kept interacting with the NPC in an inappropriate way, they could fight and/or leave you, and if you kept breaking the fourth wall, they might constantly worry about your mental health and eventually leave as well, because they think you are crazy. That way you don't have to censor too much, but still lightly "force" the player to play by the rules. 🤔 Either way, as a proof of concept this is truly outstanding and unlike many other new technology that promised to bring gaming to the next level, this one really seems capable of doing that. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I am a somewhat older gamer, who grew up with the NES and SNES and I always wondered how people before my time could play and enjoy games like Pong. Maybe this AI stuff will make future generations think the same about the way we played RPGs in our days, wondering how we were even able to get immersed in worlds that are, in hindsight, so obviously scripted. 😄
The only way voice actors could still get paid is if they lend their voice over to A.i. or record certain phrases and such. At least, that way they can still get some credit but yeah, A.i. will definitely be revolutionary
They don't have to, VA could record their voices for the A.i to use. Like recording how they would grunt or shout instead of having it cobble together how it thinks they would sound. That way we get the best of both worlds at the same time.
Oh my, soon games will add advanced AI npcs everywhere with different dialogue depending on your response, instead of using a chat box you use your own voice like your talking to real people 😅
This would take immersion of npcs to a whole another level. I do hope in the near future they would add this feature in games this would make the npcs more lively and responsive

Crazy. Can’t wait for skyrim to be rereleased on the next consoles with this built in
that wont happen AAA companies are scared of adding LLM in videogames i think indies have to have a big breaktrough in this first, it will take a game like a hollow knight or hades indie game but with AI for AAA studios to start thinking abt adding it in their games
tbf LLM where shit before chatgpt so, we only have had them for abt 8 months, a AAA game usually takes betwen 4 to 6 years of development so we wont see this until then, ofc they cold add this in an already mid deleovepd game but i dont think they wanna do that
@@ALexalex-ss4sb I'm not saying we will get it. But if any AAA company were to do it first. It'd be Bethesda.
I also can't wait for another re-re-re release.
Soon they will release skyrim on Mars. And use skyrim to run the computer on a future rocket.
Do it on the Sun that is metal as f***

I'm with Todd howard on this, pc or console I always push graphics. Barring competitive fps, racing or on occasion if im struggling on souls like boss I'll drop the graphics down for a moment.

Lol wtf you just blew my mind moist boy lmfao
i always wanted this as a kid. you talk to the character, actually talk with it and it talks back, understanding you completely and acknowledging you. to see all these years later that someone did it is wild.
Stuff like this is actually really interesting, instead of guides and tooltips the AI can kinda work as an assist tool for if you’re lost or don’t know what to do, and they also have personality and somewhat natural flow or interaction making it more immersive to use them rather than tabbing out
@TheLoverOfYourMother1 Kojima already doing that for Metal Gear series =D
Testing ai with writing i didn't think it was that good. But it can be the best yesman and hype you up about your writing. Simplify it and help you come up with new ideas.
This is the kind of use i thought about when ChatGPT became famous, and it's really incredible, imagine an entire game based on this
This makes me super excited for Starfield modding! That game is going to be a black hole of never-ending content the moment AI companion mods start coming out!
I can’t wait for ai powered adoring fan!!
That’s exactly what I’ve been saying for the last month. 1000 planets to fill with AI NPCs and maybe even AI crafted missions and characters.
the hard on you people have for that game is going to be great when it ends up like cyberpunk
@@OriginalKanyeTPain is it going to be like the hard on you get from being a cynical douche in RUclips comments?
@@UbiDoobyBanoobyai mission seems maybe a couple years down the line but is very exciting considering looking back literally just to the start of this year or even 2-3 months ago and look at the difference in ai it literally looks like years worth of development in just a couple months, ontop of more companies investing it’ll only get quicker
Imagine being able to coordinate a synchronized stealth kill with only your voice. “Move up with me slow. You take the one on the right.”
And imagine them getting depressed because they are stuck in a virtual world haha
AGI might be too much
@@legion1791 AGI will never be in a game that's way too overkill.
Can you imagine a remaster of republic commando with this?!!!
@@thegamesforreal1673 Still really cool that this is possible now though, even just it being conversation based.
@@thegamesforreal1673 That makes sense. I didn't think it altered scripting (papyrus) in the game but wasn't sure. I figured it was just doing dialogue condition checks but wasn't sure how the LLM figured into all of that.
I love how she immediately corrected your pronunciation of her name and you still kept saying it wrong the entire video.
I dreamed about such thing for ages. But I didn''t expect it to be real for at lest another 20-30 years. That's a HUGE leap
I'm glad your vision is coming into fruition!
Literally just 1-3 months ago it was horrible bad text to speech aswell as a 30 second delay. So imagine one year!!!

Yes I want npc’s conversing with each others like this !!!! Imagine !!!

Watch games get more expensive too, when they should get cheaper the better this gets because less voice acting and editing will be needed.
Why the need for blasphemy? I mean seriously, very low brow, low class thing to say.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
Imagine a game like GTA where every NPC had fast acting AI. Would be wild.
The real impressive part is having the character remark on things that are happening in the world and not just responding to the player
This would freak me out but wonderful content as always!
Fun fact, there is a unicorn in the special edition. Taming it is a quest, and if you're not using it it hangs out at the College of Winterhold courtyard.
More games should incorporate this
Herika is surprisingly funny. Love the glib humor.
Either way, as a proof of concept this is truly outstanding and unlike many other new technology that promised to bring gaming to the next level, this one really seems capable of doing that. 😄
For me as a gamer over 18 i want the uncensored experience! 😏🤨
The only way voice actors could still get paid is if they lend their voice over to A.i. or record certain phrases and such. At least, that way they can still get some credit but yeah, A.i. will definitely be revolutionary
Interesting thoughts and ideas.
They don't have to, VA could record their voices for the A.i to use. Like recording how they would grunt or shout instead of having it cobble together how it thinks they would sound. That way we get the best of both worlds at the same time.
@@PersonausdemAll me when I'm not over 18
