    So here is the thing about the forsworn sword. It's not a sword. It's a type of macuahuitl. You swing it like a sword, but it's designed to rip and tear into flesh like sharp teeth, and it is than a regular sword slash. The types of wounds they make usually can't be stitched

    • @geosymbolo
      @geosymbolo 2 месяца назад +9

      No estoy seguro de la comparación, un tipo de arma dentada no tiene por qué ser "un tipo de" macahuitl, tomando en consideración que la característica primera del macuahuitl es que está hecha de obsidiana, un "tipo de" podria ser su variante conocida en los pueblos andinos como macana, lo que comparten es el trabajo de pulido de piedras claramente definido con un patrón estético alegórico a elementos de su cosmivisión, en este caso el arma de los renegados está hecha con dientes y huesos, bastante rudimemtaria. Creo que llamarlo macahuitl es ser demasiado generoso con la espada de los renegados, la cual habla de un nivel mucho menor de complejidad en elaboración. La cultura mexicana y nahuatl eran bastante complejas.

    My head canon on the ancient nord weapons is that they are actually just ritual weapons meant specifically for use in burial rites and so are more symbolic than practical. That's also why you see them used as seals and keys in a couple of tombs

    • @eliasvonbrille
      @eliasvonbrille 2 месяца назад +11

      Edit: Never mind. I hadn't watched the Vid yet and thought this list would be about strength and usability. Yes. They are stupidly overdesigned etc.
      What? Dude they are almost as good as Steal swords. Despite the fact that they are thousands of years old...
      If anything It's a bit unrealistic how good they are. They must have been legendary weapons of Ancient myths to be this good after thousands of years of rotting away.
      Besides you would think Smithing technique would improve over time but apparently it significantly downgraded...

    • @Visidron22
      @Visidron22 Месяц назад +5

      Additionally, if you think about it, you only find them in crypts and ancient burial sites. Which are historically used by the rich and powerful. Which would explain why they are so overengineered.

      @@eliasvonbrille
      If i recall, Nords canonically are famously good blacksmiths who make quality equipment, which makes it ironic that almost no one in Skyrim actually has good quality equipment. The only faction who seems to actually have canon-accurate Nord armor standards are random Black Briar goons wearing Steel Plate (and not any of the Companions who have the best blacksmith in the country with Skyforge weapons...).
      Ancient Nord weapons seem to be an interesting nod to this: they're incredibly old, yet so well made that despite suffering so much time-oriented degradation they're still about as good quality as Tamriel's modern Steel weaponry. Nord Hero weapons seem to be the restored version of these, which reveal a weapon that's of competitive quality to Elven weapons but uses substantially cheaper and lower quality materials that showcase how superior the smithing process was. Skyforge Steel and current Nordic weapons seem to be the modern Tamriel equivalents to restored Ancient Nord weapons, all having the same damage output but express different cultural eras of the Nords.
      Supposedly (no confirmation), it's the Imperial-fication of most human cultures that caused traditional Nord equipment quality to lessen over time via Imperial standardization of its own style of mediocre (but overall cost-effectively cheap) gear, only being preserved by a select few upholders of the old forging traditions (Skyforge Steel) or backwater settlements who avoided Imperial standardization but still put their own spin on ancient Nordic equipment (Skaal with their Nordic gear). Traditional Nord smiths may make way better stuff, but usually at high costs that make gearing armies with that stuff impossible to do, hence why Imperial standardization ended up being more practical for large scale warfare purposes since that at least affords everyone with Steel quality equipment instead of having a bunch of poorer troops using a mess of random gear with a lot of garage iron in the mix.

I could see it being host for a really awesome shock enchantment for a paladin. I find these swords to be very underrated and so is the golden bow. Nightingale Sword is my favorite. Totally utilitarian, especially for a thief. In any other sword the crossguard is a bit small, but we're talking about the weapon of a character who is by definition a sneaky sort. It's the closest thing to a concealed sword. It has color to it, and personally I think it beats out the Dawnbreaker because if you're a thief sneaking into a building or a tomb you really don't want a super glowie blade. Elegant, but on the down low...good for just awesome and it fits the Nightingale armor set perfectly. You forgot a few Swords (mainly from the Creation club). Trueflame, Hopesfire, and the Ebony Scimitars from Ghosts of the Tribunal are all dope curved swords. Goldbrand is just a Golden Katana. Dawn/Duskfang and Bloodthirst are a duo of Tsaesci blades (very unique designs) brought over from Akavir. The Remnant Scimitar is a much better looking scimitar than the Vanilla game's. Boneshaver and Cyrus's Sabre are very unique Redguard blades (one the weapon of a previous protagonist). The Fishing Creation's Fishing Rods are classified as the Game's engine and serve the same purpose outside of actually fishing (though they kinda suck as weapons XD). Torment is a badass looking Daedric Longsword (TES Oblivion weapon type) that we obtain in the Deadlands (Dagon's realm, basically Hell) after killing the Dremora wielding it. And 2 Swords that are LITERALLY JUST GLADIUS SWORDS: The Grand Champion's Sword from the Bittercup creation, and Dragon's Oath the imperial counterpart to the Storm-Bear Sword. The fact that you included the Storm-Bear sword, but didn't include Dragon's Oath, and then bitched about there not being a Gladius is just asinine. Also Ice Enchantments suck in Skyrim, as all Nords, Draugr, Vampires, and half of all Dragons have a 50% resistance to it! Meanwhile far fewer enemies resist Fire, which is the enchantment on Dragon's Oath.

    My theory on the ancient nord weapons having all that un-necessary design and decoration is because they were left in the tombs for the fallen rather than for use in battle and an ancient nord going into battle would more likely have a steel weapon, especially with the reputation of the skyforge steel. The other ancient nord weapons from nord heros are probably ceremonial in nature even if they go into battle so they are decorated but also functional even if plain steel would be better in practicality.

    Woah woah woah, falmer sitting at 29 is CRIMINAL. Its one of my favorite base designs in the game, only sitting behind the blades sword and the wooden shiv. It looks kinda like they made it outta the sharp claw like legs of the chaurus they raise and has okay damage for what it is. I like enchanting mine with paralysis and magicka absorb bc i play a spell blade type of character. I also love the actualy ancient falmer set aswell and basically beeline thru dawgaurd just for that alone

    I can see the argument for why the steel sword isn’t all that impressive but in my opinion it’s an amazing sword that is simple and beautiful. When I start a playthrough in Skyrim I don’t progress out of riverwood without full steel armor, sword, shield and dagger cuz I think the iron armor and weapons suck. Both in design and aesthetics. After I kill my first dragon I continue to improve smithing to the point of dwarven smithing and forging a crap ton of dwarven bows based on the experience they grant and go until I have the advanced armor perk to forge steel plate armor or Nordic carved and weapons. The Nordic carved weapons and armor are my favorites easily cuz of design, the flourishes and more. I don’t care I am usually a sword and shield user I would easily craft all the Nordic carved weapons for display in a home. Dawnbreaker is awesome and all but hearing meridia over and over every playthrough is annoying. Though in the dawnguard dlc, using it and auriel’s bow against vampires and Harkon is just flavor win right there lol. Dragonbane is an awesome dragon slayer sword, I just wish it didn’t have be a blades sword. I think the glass sword while beautiful is just a dumb idea in my opinion. If I wanted glass for a weapon, I’ll use volcanic glass lol. Obsidian is just better. Daedric sword is gnarly for obvious reasons but the fact that there is no added bonus damage cuz of the serrated edge hurts it. Dragonbone is just pure epicness mixed with utility as a weapon. It’s perfect. I just love hearing random guards ask how they can procure weapons and armor made of dragon bones and scales lol. The ebony sword is one I gladly skip and choose the ebony ax over cuz the sword is just ugly. Orcish sword is cool just not impressive to me. Elven, while elegant, is more of a display piece than a weapon for battle.
