Litterally one of the few if not the only one that i am still able to watch work on m5x engines😂 Most people just buy the newest stuff or will post 15 episodes of doing the work. Its you and pazi, and that is a great compliment. -to be compared to our finnish bmw god!

As a Honda master tech and an unfortunate Audi enthusiast I can relate to slaving for a 20+ year old car. But the gratification you get is so worth it. If there any RUclipsr I wish to have overwhelming success it’s you Joel! Vamo pa enismaaaa
As someone who does this all day every day for work it’s very refreshing to see you being so careful with all the internals and covers and everything… I just gotta send that shit so i make time 😂
I respect the work ethic. This is what it takes to keep a high horsepower classic running reliably, and being conscious to do things the right way is the best attitude to have. Would love to see the car in person at some point.
Man I don't know shit about BMW's but I still watch almost every minute of your vids lmao, makes me wanna build my 2jz. Keep up the good work. The amount of effort u put into these vids is commendable bro
Well done mate! Im excited to see this thing back up and running, youve done a fantastic job! 💪👌 Im also glad youre noticing and not ignoring your instinct of "if it doesnt feel right, go back and fix it, dont be lazy". The amount of times I've witnessed people ignore basic stuff they know is wrong and have it come back to bite them is countless.
Man, I JUST got an E30 and I’ve been having trouble getting the stock motor to run right. Seeing you work on yours gives me motivation to get mine going.
I love painting everything with that engine paint. It’s really durable, it’s good for things like suspension parts like control arms and sway bars, too. If the metal is not all the way clean or it’s a bit pitted and rusty, I get it as good as I can and then use an etch primer and hand sand a bit. Then I hit it with the engine paint and it comes out solid.
One reason the front bearings are worse, is because the front of the crank drives the oilpump, cams and also the serpentine belt, so there's more stress/force on the crank in the front.
Seeing how meticulous and perfect you were with this one and how well everything went I think this will be the last rebuild for a while, excited to see this thing driving again, maybe you can take her to the drag strip and see what kind of times she really puts down on a prepped track soon? Looking forward to more content :)
i was on the edge of my seat when the head bolt gave u problems but after watching all of your videos i feel so ready to build my e30 after the military
respect, yeah the adjustable ring compressors work, and have done so for generations now. butttttt, the ring compressors taht are milled from billet for one specific piston size, are the absolute cheat code! never had a ring fial with them ever. i went out and bought one for all 3 piston sizes for the motors i work on . nissan vg30de and dett. 87mm, 87.5mm and 88mm. life saver! also i buld customers motors so thats why. but for yours id get the size needed. they save rings and lives lol
That reminds me when my 350z started to have oil pressure problems so I disassembled the vq 35 hr, gave it an acid bath and assembled it with forged connecting rods and crankshaft, it was a good experience, it was also the first time I disassembled an engine, I made several mistakes but I managed to solve them and I already have 85,000 km on it since I re-build it. 😅
It has itbs and a 100hp nitro shot NA:358 hp at 8200 RPM Nitro: 442 at 7000 RPM I would like to buy a turbo kit for this Christmas and reach 500 hp or 450 hp (it is my daily car). PDT: With the crankshaft, reinforced connecting rods and harder springs we were able to make it cut at 9000 RPM on the NA map
Excellent work Joel - you've improved so much mechanically and filming/editing videos, and your experience in both aspects is great with some very good advice throughout. Well done my man 👍🏽
I'll be deleting the squirters in mine. Real street did a video saying that they're starting to do the same in the 2j's in order to keep oil and oil pressure at the bearings where it is more critical.
i hope you know im now 21 and I just started my turbo build a week ago and I literally just stopped working on it (engine is still in car and held up by support bar because subframe is down so I could pull the oil pan to weld the drain bung) which to get to that point took me one good day of work, but I got my turbo manifold in today by doing some crazy jank shit to jack the engine to the side to get the clearance... after all that I just sat down in one sitting and proceeded to watch a movie about way more complicated shit hahaha
When ylu had it apart this time I thought you’d take a bit of time and port match the intake and exhaust. I’m used to n/a cars were every little bit counts but it still helps the response. It’s the little things that add up. Most people just turn the boost up rather Thad doing clean flow steps. Maybe next time. It looks like you’re ready for a used oven and a powder coat gun and a cera cote setup. Your attention to detail it getting so meticulous. ✌️
Great video, I hate to be THAT guy and usually I don't wear much ppe, but those wire wheels you should really consider wearing safety glasses, those steel bristles often shoot off and can easily stick your eye, be safe brother!
Ohh man damn, atleast you kinda know it’s a race car and this stuff happens… Another quick tip… the cams don’t need to come out to remove the head!. Not a huge time saver but meh.. P.s you’re sooo lucky to have fcp at your disposal.. man, looking fresh! 👌
I wish I didn’t see this video for one reason. I just rebuilt my oil pump and now all I can think of is my snap ring blowing off the pressure relief valve. Didn’t even know that could be a thing! I went back and watched your 2psi oil pressure video and the snap ring looked good but hard to tell. You think it just wasn’t seated 100%? How many miles did you make it before it came apart?
With that style of ring compressor I’m p sure you’re supposed to give it one big smack not a bunch of little ones. This keeps the rings compressed while going into the engine
Man, how often do you have to rebuild a turbo engine if you daily it? What makes it not reliable? Is it the engine itself that cant handle boost or what?
Try not to twist the copper strands they could technically break and cause a bad connection. It's not a MAJOR deal but it is a slight thing to keep in mind to sort of kick that habit electrical gremlins hide in small corners after all.

Just put a drop of oil or silicone spray on the bearing before putting the strip of plastigauge on. It'll make removing it a lot easier.
